Best friends, baking, and a body count - what's not to love?
Piper and Sam are excited to cater their first large event for a corporation’s weekend wellness retreat in a nearby town.
You know what that means? Road trip!
Piper thought it sounded like the perfect opportunity to clear her head of men. With things left unresolved with Griff, plus an old friend popping back into her life, her mind and heart are in worse shape than a batch of burnt cookies.
Unfortunately, the weekend goes pear-shaped in a hurry. A man is dead and everyone at the retreat is a suspect.
Can Piper get out of this new pickle and solve the mystery in time to salvage the retreat and the catering job? Will Sam heed the warning to stay out of the police investigation? And will the Ooey Gooey Bakery survive the weekend without them?
Pastries, Pies, \u0026 Poison (Ooey Gooey Bakery Mystery #2) Reviews

Piper and Sam are recovering from the incidents in book #1, one thing that is a slight problem though is cash flow, if they take a catering job for the weekend however, then they should have enough to bank, even paying people to run the bakery for them whilst they are away! Everything starts off smoothly, although they need to buy a bit of extra kit and stock up with baking supplies, but that is all in a day's work for these two. Unfortunately part the way through the evening of the first full day, someone keels over and Piper is arrested for murder! She is released but now she, Sam, Griff and an old friend Landon need to figure out who is the murderer and why - otherwise Piper will be doing the rest of her baking whilst serving 15 to 20 and wearing orange!

Now, I need dessert!
I'm new to cozy mystery and I'm glad I started with these books. They're more than just a story, this author is highlighting a very serious issue with light hearted mystery and doing a fine job of it. These are shirt, entertaining stories with just enough mystery to keep you guessing. -
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Piper and Sam find trouble....again
Pastries, Pies, and Poison by Katherine H. Brown is a fantastic book that is easily enjoyed, perhaps with some cookies or even some pie. It picks up where the last one ends and is a pretty entertaining book.
Piper
Piper is our main character and the one that is taking us on the ride. She is the narrator that takes us through the mystery. Piper is the co-owner of Ooey-Gooey Bakery, and it sounds like an awesome place. She is having a hard time figuring out somethings between Griff, her best friend's brother, and Landon, her childhood friend.
Likes
her baking and cooking
being able to solve crimes
not thinking the worst in everyone
wanting to help when she can
Dislikes
Piper is sometimes a bit of an airhead about things that can be important.
Griff
Griff is the brother to Sam and is the love interest for Piper. He doesn't like her snooping, especially when it causes her to get into trouble. Griff wants to be able to protect Piper especially after she was kidnapped in the last book, but he isn't doing a good job here. He helped her a bit this time, and some big things happen between Piper and Griff.
Mystery
The mystery here is that two people were murdered and another person ends up getting kidnapped. One people that was killed is a person that works for Breaking Chains and the second person is a victim that Piper and Sam are trying to help. Apparently, it didn't work out for either of them since they are both died.
Five Stars
Pastries, Pies, and Poison by Katherine H. Brown is the second book in a good cozy mystery series. I am giving it a five-star rating and recommending it to everyone that likes cozies and baked goods.

I enjoyed this book. It started with the murder and then went back in time to explain what lead up to death. I am not sure that was the right way to go because it started out a bit confusing, especially as the murder didn't happen for a while but I still enjoyed and it didn't take too long get to catch up with who everybody was. The reason I liked it was because of the wonderful characters, particularly the teenagers left back at the shop and there mishaps. There is a nice love interest that keeps hitting road blocks but it to adds humour. Human trafficking is an unusual subject for a cozy mystery but I think the author balanced out the serious side of it with some nice humour and it was well done. The mystery was interesting and I liked how it played out, girl power. This is the second book in the series and even though it mentions the kidnapping from the first book (a lot) it still works well as a standalone. Just a fun mystery and I am off to start the next book.
Piper and Sam have had a busy couple of weeks and just want to turn there focus back into there bakery before they lose any more customers. Unfortunately they get asked to cater an entire weekend for a large corporate event that proves to good to turn down, even if it means leaving there shop in the hands of teenagers. To complicate things Grifs timing to confess his feeling for Piper isn't perfect and he rushes out when an old friend, Langdon, turns up. Piper is confused and just wants to bake but a storm during the dinner rush finds a dead body in his pie and a girl's body washing up on the beach. Langdon has ties to both bodies and the police want to talk to him but he goes missing. Could her old friend have killed his boss and the girl he was secretly meeting? When the police find the poison in Piper's possession she also becomes a suspect. Can one of the people who is meant to help stop the human trafficking be behind it? And if so can Piper and Sam live long enough to prove it wasn't Langdon?
I liked the narrator, you had no problems telling the characters apart. Even one was a little bit squeaky it made it fun.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. -
Not one of my favourites
The storyline was good and I understand why it was used. But the actual setting seemed wrong. It seemed more like a plot for a read set in an Asian country. I realise that things like this happen all over the world but maybe it was the attitude of the police that made the setting seem inconsistent with the events.
An offer to bake goodies and desserts at Breaking Chains has her in a flap. First she has to sort out replacements for the bakery and train them. However two show up and the offer is accepted. Secret meetings, a dead body, attempts to kill them, a police force that arrest and don't listen, an insider working in the trafficking ring and kidnapping. Will they work out how, how and why whilst keeping alive? Will the police believe them? -
Wow, life’s never dull when you’re with Piper and Sam, that’s for sure! On what was supposed to be a wellness retreat for the company Landon worked for, it was anything but that including two murders and the girls uncovering a bunch of corruption, the type Landon’s company fought to keep away from the town. Landon and Piper took turns being suspects but Piper managed to get some crucial evidence the police needed, so after an exciting showdown, hopefully things were back to somewhat normal…whatever that might be in Seashell Bay!

Piper and Sam have decided to take on a weekend catering event out of town. They think they have Ooey Gooey Bakery left in capable helping hands. And they are excited about the event. But soon, there seems to be some suspicious activity and then someone ends up dead. And now Piper and Sam seem to be in danger. I love the characters and their antics in this series! There’s lots of humor and yummy goodies. I listened to the audiobook and the narration was easy to listen to.

More light reading
Sam & Piper take on a weekend catering event out of town, & so much happens in those two days that it takes up most of the book. I was happy to have Gladys in the story again, even though she was less involved this book. -
Must say I read a paperback version that is not on goodreads. This story was a lot better than the first one ; loved it despite the typos and misspellings. Good fun story.
