Book Included in the Collection are:

Book 1 Lord Despair - From the lush English countryside to the glittering society of Victorian London, and the shabbier side of its gambling hells, Lord Despair thought he’d left the worst behind in the Burmese jungle. He was wrong. Jenny Blackwood is determined not to let her mother and sisters succumb to an unkind fate. With a head for numbers, she becomes the skilled bookkeeper “Mr. Cavendish.” One unexpected client is the nobleman cruelly named by gossips as Lord Despair.

Book 2 Lord Anguish - Contented, privileged, and eligible until a carriage accident hurls him to the cobbled street, John Angsley, Earl of Cambrey, awakens to broken bones and a battered head. Can it get worse? Opium, which eases his pain at first, brings suffering of its own, creating Lord Anguish, who must choose between the lure of laudanum and the woman he loves. Miss Margaret Blackwood is the jammiest bit of jam and all John has ever wanted in a woman. Unfortunately, it’s clear from the start she’s too young and too fickle to make him a good wife, especially with rival suitors cropping up at every turn.

Book 3 Lord Vile - Viscount Alder never meant to earn the nickname Lord Vile, yet he fully embraces it after a nasty betrayal—combining bitter resentment with the soothing taste of gin and a fondness for females. One wronged woman seeking revenge shreds his self-centered world, painfully capturing the heart he didn’t know he had. Worshiping him from afar, Ada Kathryn is thrilled to encounter the dash-fire viscount in the darkened garden. Minutes later, her innocence in tatters, she waits for the noble Lord Alder to do the honorable thing. Instead, she watches as the most vile lord in London saunters away.

Book 4 Lord Darkness - (Excerpt)

Let the decadence begin!

A truly fabulous, emotional whirlwind of a boxset!!

A boxset of impossible to forgot, interesting, relatible and deep characters that grab your attention and refuse to leave you alone until their stories have been told. Where wit, passion, love and hauntingly emotional turmoil and tragic circumstances are satisfyingly balanced in three utterly compelling reads.
All three linked stories deal with traumatic issues and their devastating consequences where only love and a deep connection and understanding can help to lessen the struggle they present each day. Sympathetic, heartwarming and cleverly written, that screams believability and heart aching honesty when dealing with the dark pitfalls and addictions of the mind that have the effect to completely change a person.  Each happy ever after tale is hard won but all the more enthralling and touching for its twists, heartaches, misunderstandings, misconceptions, witty banter, passions, sparks of happiness and insightful worries and insecurities. Where the heroes have a tendency to heartbreakingly jest at their own shortcomings and use wit to mask their inner turmoil which makes them all the more openly relatible and their musings ring true as they express the inner turmoil and emotional angst and insecuries we all have despite what we show through the persona we project to others.

Genevieve (Jenny) and Simon's tale is
believable, heart felt and heartwarming with heart breakingly witty banter and wordplay that's well written and conveys great connection and chemistry between the leads. Sympathic to effects of war on the mind of an imprisioned soldier with the added element and intrigue caused by an underlining sinister mystery the leads are compelled to solve together.

John and Margaret's (Maggie) tale is based enticingly upon the twists and turns of emotional misunderstandings, misconceptions and heartbreaking drug addiction.
Spirited and forthright yet admirably honest and straight to the point Margaret is paired irresistibly with the charming, completely besotted yet troubled John.
Passionate, achingly heartfelt, witty and entrancingly engaging with elements of relationship entanglements reminiscent to Jane Austin's Emma.

Ada Kathryn and Michael's tale is fuelled by revenge and betrayal. Emotionally entangling and stomach churning yet surprisingly witty and charming too despite the gut twistingly horrible misconceptions of their first encounter (and subsequent ruination of the heroine) making it easy to want to cast the hero as the selfish cad and villian suggested by the books title and his moniker. With the addition of some positively delightful subcharacters in the heartmeltingly endearing Harry and Dash (Ada Kathryn's son and his puppy) as well as the siblings of the leads.

Great scope for what's turning into a very captivating and emotionally haunting series. All three are wonderful books as standalones but I would highly recommend you read them in order - for a greater depth and understanding of the characters make their dark moments more relatable and that much more potent. A truly fabulous, emotional whirlwind of a boxset from an author I had little knowledge of previously but can't wait to get better acquainted with in the future! Not to be missed!!

    Wow a hit set.

I really can’t pick a favorite! All three were great reading. The three women were strong, intelligent, a sense of both honor and humor. Good reminders of the woman l married 63 years ago. Strong men, problems but they overcame them for the love of the right woman. That folks is good romance. As I said three hits. Thank you Jack.

    Perfectly imperfect

A wonderful series of sexy Lords who are imperfect but oh so loveable. I think the parts I loved most were their imperfections and how the author dealt with them. I would recommend this new to me author to any historical romance reader.

For the love of a worthy woman ….

For the love of a worthy woman, three damaged lords tackle their personal challenges and change their futures. Each book of the Beastly Lords Collection by Sydney Jane Baily stands alone, but each book also has central characters that have welcomed cameo appearances in subsequent books. Within all three well written books, the characters and plots are well developed with just enough Victorian history to make the world building feel real.

Book 1: Lord Despair, was an engrossing 5-stars read that made me laugh and made me cry. The plot centered around severe PTSD, and it's future altering effects on all those in contact with Simon. I loved and respected both Lord Simon Devere and Miss Jenny Blackwood. They were well suited, and I was so wrapped up in their love story that I could not put down my e-reader.

Book 2: Lord Anguish, although good, only came up (for me) to a 3-stars status. Since the first seven chapters contained a lot of backstory from the first book, Lord Cambrey and Miss Maggie Blackwood's love story took a bit longer to unfold. The plot centered around prescribed substance addiction, and it's effect on a relationship as well as all immediate family members. This story had a good deal of angst, and I just was not as fond of Cam and Maggie.

Book 3: Lord Vile was also okay. I would give it a 3.5 stars rating, but with a 5 stars ending. The plot centered around sex and alcohol addiction and it's subtle effect on both friends and family members, and on society. This story also had a good deal of angst, but it was saved by Ada and Michael's willingness to change their hearts and minds.

Content 411: In addition to the life altering issues mentioned above, all three books contain swearing (secular and religious), as well as moderately described sexual intimacies.

Lord Despair 5* - An earl tortured by his past, a lady trying to keep her family solvent and a mystery to be solved. Loved it.

Lord Anguish 4* - A series of misunderstandings conspire against Cam and Maggie. Then a nasty accident leads to the two of them getting together and then being torn apart by addiction.

Lord Vile 3* - Didn’t enjoy this story particularly (except for the last third). I found Ada at first naive and then so coldly calculating that she was off-putting. I also felt it was shame that Harry was to be given his name as the gossips will have a field day. Poor Harry will spend his schooldays and adulthood explaining that though he bears Michael’s surname he is not his heir - seems rather cruel to do this to him.

    Good, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad!

This is a good collection. I liked the first two stories best. They each featured one of three sisters finding their HEA. The third story is about the second sister’s best friend. I was bummed from the beginning because I was looking forward to reading the third sister’s HEA. I don’t remember reading much about the best friend in either of the previous stories, so I wasn’t expecting a romance centered around her. That disappointment started the story on bad footing for me. Unfortunately, it also moved slowly. Those things combined with the fact that I didn’t like the hero for a better part of half the story made the last one a DNF for me.

I liked this collection very much!

I enjoyed the way that the book was written and how well the books intertwined with each other to enable the saga to continue and for the characters to develop. I thought that it was a real page turner and I was hooked by the plot line. I thought that the story was tastefully done and the story plots were really pleasing!

It is 5 stars from me for this series, I thoroughly enjoyed them all - very highly recommended!!

    Romance collection

I loved the first in the collection. They were sweet and worked together to solve their problems but also couldn't fix each other. The other two in the collection weren't for me. The second one I didn't enjoy the characters and the third one started out with a sexual assault between the main couple.

    Dark made light

A wonderful collection of Victorian romances, similar, but different. Each of these lords has a scar, and the women they meet and eventually love know how to make it better. Recommended

    Beast;y Lords

Lord Despair, Lord Anguish and Lord Vile all had issues but thanks to some lovely ladies their lives turned for the better. Author Sydney Jane Bailey writes where it’s hard to put the book down.

  • LUAYNE

    2 stars

I gave each book 10 chapters then skipped to the epilogue. The books are boring and drag. The characters are flat and uninteresting. The plots are predictable.

  • Rhyann Dines-Lucas

    Really enjoyed this collection
Well written with references to world activities at the time
Well rounded characters that you could really connect with

  • Ane Ryan Walker

A well paced and interesting take on regency romance. The stories were well written and interesting, to have characters deal with issues rarely addressed in that time period. Great reading.

  • H Willis

Very enjoyable books, all three. Great smooth writing. A series but each can be read separate. You won't be disappointed if you enjoy this genre.

Why did I do this to myself?

This was a three-pack of utter mediocrity and idiot main characters. Every time I picked it up I asked myself why was I doing this to myself. Apparently I like the literary equivalent of a paper cut? Okay, the first of the three was unmemorable but fine. But the second two were like... wait, I'm supposed to like these characters, right? I wish I could say I DNF but apparently I couldn't stop.
