This was off to... This was off to me for a couple reasons. It was sooo hood it became overbearing, almost like it didn't go well together and the more I read the more I had to force myself in it. The characters were supposed to be extra old but weren't speaking like it. The story line was rough so trying to follow what was happening and why was off as well. With so many mistakes and left out words this came off as a mess. 8/4/2019 6:38

Lots of Potential but doesn’t quite hit

I absolutely absolutely loved the idea behind Bayou: King of The Seas. I have such a hard time finding paranormal romance with Black characters that the I just knew this was going to hit the spot.

The author is imaginative in her story background and I loved that. Unfortunately as much as I loved the idea, the execution didn’t quite reel me in. The characters were flat and one dimensional but I can tell that the author wanted them to be well rounded. The only reason I could tell was in speech were another character would go “XYZ changed from when I first met her”.

The romances fell flat. The timelines of story events didn’t really line up. And while some of this can be overlooked, I can tell that this wasn’t edited. Characters repeated things or stated things that the reader has already read without the character stating it. Quite often the dialogue was stilted as well.

I believe that I would have thoroughly enjoyed this if even the smallest amount of editing was done, but unfortunately it comes off as more of a first draft.

While I do think that some work needs to be done, I can see this author going quite far with this with people who don’t notice the things that I’ve stated. But I truly believe it would go even further with some basic editing and cleaning up.

While usually I wouldn’t comment on editing, these were things that as a reader, I couldn’t help but notice because it impacted my enjoyment of the story.

    Happenings in the deep seas

    This was a great read!

So much going on! Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Bayou the King of all waterworld had a responsibility to his people, family and loved ones. He’s running a kingdom, a drug business, and more. He’s also without his mate.
He has a loyal crew who are down for him. But what happens when greed and a quest for power changes the hearts of his colleagues and his people? Not to mention an ancient evil resurfacing and secrets surrounding its origins are revealed.
There’s mating rituals, pairings, betrayals and more happening all at once. All is not well with the water.
Bayou the King has a crisis on his hands, but he has good people to help him along the way to ending it.

All I can say is wow because I definitely want more. Work kept me having to pause my reading but I was finally able to finish. So many lies led to untold truths and when it was finally revealed it was too late. I loved how Aquarius was willing to step up and protect Coral after her foolish mistakes. Croatoan was really seeking revenge and I don't like him at all. Marci needs to get her life because something is truly not right with her. I need Bayou to pull some strength from somewhere and show why he's the king. Just when I started to like Angel just a little bit here goes the bs. Hopefully Nola and Rachal can get to Garnet and do what needs to be done to save everyone.

    New Favorite

I don't normally write reviews despite my like or dislike BUT This book was fantastic from prologue to epilogue. The plot flowed beautifully and I have never laughed out loud and so hard than I did Everytime a character clowned another. My absolute favorite was Marci's crazy self. Her level of savagery towards Sarah had me in tears. I loved how all the alphas ( men & women) were able to lead without egos clashing. I didn't like Angel and I hope in the next book Nola makes beyond difficult or just ignores him altogether. I hope there's a book on Infinity in the future too.

    Another 5⭐️ banger!!

This author never fails me, and has done it again! This book had so many twists and turns. It takes you through so many emotions. Bayou truly loved Rachal and he would do anything to show and prove. Aquarius was a real man and for Coral he really stepped up to the plate. I don’t know how to feel about Angel because on the one hand I understand his decision, but on the other, I think he handled it wrong. That ending left my mouth ha going open. I can’t wait for pt 2 so I can see what’s going to happen!

This book was in my to read pile for a while so i decided to read it. I normally love books from this author, however i couldn't get into this book. I read for a while, and then i put it down and picked it back up but i couldn't get into the grove of the book. The writing that i read was good, but i just couldn't get into the storyline which is weird to me because I normally love these types of books. I might try to read it again later on and if anything changes ill update how i feel in my review lol

    Entertaining Read

This was my first read by this author. Never thought about a paranormal story with mermaids, but it did hold my attention. The author has created quite an imaginative story filled with relationship drama, family rivalry and fighting off villains. Kind of like a paranormal soap opera. I was shocked at the ending, looking forward to part 2 to see how the drama plays out.

    Good

This was a good start to this new series. Bayou's reign as king is threatened by a powerful source. Rachal is fighting a losing battle with her true self. Nola is playing a dangerous game. Croatoan was an interesting character. I'm looking forward to seeing how everything turns out with how things ended.

    3.5 Stars

This story was just ok. The flow of the book for the most part was ok. However, I probably would have enjoyed it more if it didn’t have an urban twist to it. I love urban fiction, but it just did not mesh well with this paranormal story. This story was entertaining though and I do plan to read part two.

  • 🌺Keal🌸

    Awesome Read

I can’t wait for Croatoan to get what’s coming for him! I really hope Qua isn’t dead! This book had me all in my feelings! I need book 2 to right now. Poor Rachal and Nola and what happened to the Princess and the baby! I have so many questions! Hurry up Annitia!!! This book was EVERYTHING! 🔥🔥🔥

    Petty

In the name of all that is petty I wasn’t ready for this one. I understand where Angel was coming from I do. But he didn’t have to do Nola like that. I hope she finds someone else and he loses his ish. I knew Marci was going to be a problem. Now I have to impatiently wait for part 2. You never disappoint. Sensational
