Lace and Lies (Vampire Knitting Club, #7) Reviews

This one had a very who dunnit feeling to it. It was a fun read, and the culprit was a bit surprising. Lucy and Rafe's relationship seems to be taking off, although slowly. Be interesting to see how things proceed as the series continues.

This series just keeps getting better! An excellent cozy mystery series with a paranormal twist to keep it really interesting! The author weaves an excellent plot wrought with many potential suspects to keep our sleuth on her toes! Add in superior character development and you have the perfect book to entertain the day away, although if you want to elevate the book even further download the audio book as the narrator is absolutely divine! I love listening to this series as the author has written fabulous characters that feel like old friends while the narrator brings just the bit of flare to the characters to really bring them to life! I can't wait to read/listen to the next book in the series!

Lace and Lies is book 7 of the Vampire Knitting Club series. In this book, there is another murder inside Lucy's knitting shop, Cardinal Woolsey's. We see a little more of Lucy learning witchcraft. The romance is the slowest moving thing ever but she and Rafe are still dancing around each other. It feels like the overall story isn't progressing with Lucy, her skills, her character development, her relationships, etc. It seems like these are all just a collection of stories that can pretty much be read as standalone.

I have been binging this series and haven’t been reviewing them in between each book. Some overall observations from the series so far (I have finished through book 8.5 and am partway through book 9) are that the stories are always cute and good for a short escape. I really enjoy the characters and have a vested interest in them. Something I have noticed, though, is that there isn’t continuity between books and the books really could have benefited from a proofreader. For example, in book 1, Lucy is 27 but in book 6, she has her 26th birthday. In one of the books, Rafe is at least 600 years old, but in the next book, he is only 500 years old. Occasionally there is an incorrect name used but I always know what was meant so it doesn’t confuse me or make it so that I can’t continue. Another thing that is missing, at least to the point I am at now, is any real information about the vampires. We don’t get to know anything about their abilities, only that they are vampires who feed via a blood bank. Even with the inconsistencies, I am hooked on the series and enjoy these easy-going, clean, cozy mysteries. It is a nice palette cleanser from the smutty stuff I typically enjoy.

The narrator is the same throughout the series and she does a great job.

All of coincidences of the relationships among the members of the knitting class stretched credulity but it was a good story and the mystery was a good one. I did figure out who the murderer was but not their motive. Still typos getting through copy editing and proofreading.

I loved this edition in the series. This is the first one where I really didn’t know who had been the murderer right up to when it was revealed.

I also really appreciate the main character actually learning to knit instead of repeating the same old she can’t knit line. It also parallels well with her getting a grasp on her magic. I hope that as she masters magic her knitting will get better and it will somehow be tied to it.

Best in the series thus far in my opinion.

Lucy Swift is really loving living in Oxford, running her grandma’s wool shop, and solving the occasional murder. Ok, she may not actually be loving the murders, but it sure livens things up. So to speak. So also really loves her knitting vampire friends who live under her shop. She’s even getting a little bit of magic practice in and not creating any disasters. On top of all that, a tv show is going to be filmed in her shop! It’s so exciting! Until…you guessed it. A murder happens. Disaster! And she can’t even blame her witchy powers because she wasn’t using them! She and her amateur vampire sleuths need to solve this murder and quick because her business is on the line.

Nancy Warren hits another one out of the park. I love this whole world. Cozy and quaint Oxford and it’s shops, knitting galore, vampires from all eras, and murders to solve. There’s paranormal elements (I mentioned the vampires and Lucy is a witch) and humor. Plus, Lucy is being wooed now by a really old vampire. She’s not exactly sure she knows where it’s heading, but she’s really enjoying the journey. If you’re looking for a fast easy read that has a murder to solve (no gore, I promise), vampires (also no gore), humor, and a sprinkling of romance then I can’t recommend this story (and all the others that came before it) enough.

The books in this series so far are cozy mysteries and clean. I’m very impressed with Nancy Warren’s writing. There were so many suspects and you might think you know who the culprit is but I found it difficult to guess in advance of the ending. I really enjoyed this book.

    Best Entry Yet!!

A few too many coincidences, but good fun.

  • Mandy Kool

Just okay. It focused on the Rafe/Lucy relationship more than I really cared for. The mystery was interesting.

This series just keeps getting better. Returning to Cardinal Woolsey’s knitting shop is like being embraced in a warm hug. And finally Rafe and Lucy talk about their relationship!

  • Jo-Ann Carson

I love this book, as I have loved all the books in this wildly creative series.
Nancy Warren masterfully draws us into the cozy world of knitters with her easy-to-read prose, colorful characters, and spine-tingling suspense. When the body drops, everyone is a suspect, and Lucy with the help of her witch and vampire friends needs to weed through their secrets to find the murderer.
I highly recommend this book for readers who enjoy paranormal mysteries.

I have been enjoying this fanciful series about a young woman who inherits a knitting shop, discovers she's a witch, and lives above a nest of friendly vampires.

While this series of books ostensibly takes place in a knitting shop, there are very few descriptions of actual knitting in detail. This makes sense because the perspective character cannot knit well. But this was the first book i the series in which I questioned whether the author or editors know how to knit. There is a plot point about a knitting designer teaching an innovative approach to lace. While some of the things said about this innovative approach make sense, some of them seem like pure nonsense. They don't match up to anything that I could plausibly associate with knitting lace. (E.g., using color to make freehand designs. That would make sense in various forms of color work, such as stranded, intarsia, or double-knitting. But not really lace.) Everything else said about the process up until this point was vague enough to be believable (except the beginner Fair Isle pattern in an earlier book that was worked flat, but that's an easier mistake to make).

I am impressed by how enjoyable this knitting-centric series has been despite the seeming lack of knowledge about knitting.

  • Andrea Stoeckel

“To me, knitting was a chore and an obligation rather than the pleasure it was to true knitters. Frankly, I felt the same about my witchcraft. I was a bit scared of it, and if I could’ve passed on my ‘gift’ to a more deserving witch, I happily would have. Still, fate had handed me both innate witch powers and a knitting shop. I pretty much had to figure out how to make both of them work.”

Lucy Swift’s Shop,Cardinal Woolsey’s, has been chosen to be the venue for a knitting series staring Teddy Lamont, a knitting expert and one of Lucy’s grandmother’s favorite celebrities. People were chosen from all over to be part of the filming, and Lucy is feeling pretty good until one “student” comes in and “takes over” thinking she is even better than Lamont! The morning after Teddy storms out, the woman is found dead in the shop when Lucy comes down to open up. Now what?

Lucy and her group of paranormal sleuths are on the case, looking to find out just what happened before the reputation of Cardinal Woolsey’s is as dead as Enid Selfe is!

This series has yet to disappoint! Vampires who knit, witches, detectives...and Nyx. Nancy Warren has added a bit more to the pattern of these lovable characters. Pick up one, or better yet, get them all. A fantastic series. Highly Recommended 5/5

When is the next book? I can't wait that long!!! Now, Now, Now, please!

How can this series just keep on getting better and better. If you like cozy mysteries with a bit of magic then read this series. Don't worry if you haven't read the series and start with this one. You will want to go back and catch up the character developments and their quirks. Book is readable by itself.

Nyx, I love you! You are just so adorable. You make the story at times.

Nyx , sweet kitty, when are you going to let us know what you have up your paw? Waiting to see what method you are going to come up with to communicate with Lucy with. I know there is more to you then you have shown us. I can bide my time till you determine to come out full force, show your real magic.

Lucy get busy learning your magic. I want to see what you can really do! Why do I have a feeling that you will give Margaret a run for her money when you do? I get your conflict regarding Rafe. Not sure what I would decide either. Also make sure you the keys back too!!!

This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book. Thank you for letting me read this series.

I had taken a break from audiobooks, but now I am back and I jumped straight into another Vampire Knitting Club book and immediately fell back in love with this extremely colorful world.
I love Lucy, she feels real to me, like a dear friend. The murders, on the other hand, seem to be getting wilder and wilder; so many suspects I almost got lost in the lot.
You know what else is fun about this? The slow burn between Rafe and Lucy. They both clearly care for each other, but neither seem ready to put a label on their relationship. In the meantime, here I am planning their future.
Book seven brings knitters from all over the world in a cozy shop and into a TV show. Great publicity for the store until someone is dead on the floor and once again it is Lucy's weird desire to solve the crime. Honestly, I'd be like her as well, so I can't blame her.
If you are in the mood for a fun read with supernatural creatures and a who did it trope, then I highly HIGHLY suggest this book series. It is out of this world fun and I am slightly sad that one day, probably this month, I will finish it.

Dropped stitches are like lies - they keep unravelling.

Wonderful read. A great plot - a television programme to be filmed at the wool shop leads to murder of one of the knitters chosen to appear on screen. Nice list of suspects with everyone having a motive and opportunity to do the deed but who was it? The victim was a woman intent on increasing her status by marriage and had broken up many a marriage in the process now she was gunning for a new husband. Her flirtation with the star of the show and every male around put a lot of people's backs up. As did her talk of a baby she gave up for adoption and the way she pushed her daughters at school. Causing endless problems for teachers and possible boyfriends. But finding her body in the shop with knitting needles stabbed into her (like a ball of wool) was a sight she hoped never to witness again. As her restless spirit remained to cause a bad feeling in the shop. Who killed her and why? Can she find the truth before an innocent is charged with murder?

Lace and Lies by Nancy Warren
Vampire Knitting Club Series Book Seven
Lucy Swift entered a contest for Cardinal Woolsey's, her yarn shop she inherited from her Gran, to host celebrity knitter, Teddy Lamont, to teach a knitting class. It would be televised as well. Excellent for getting the shop's name out there and hopefully, gaining more business.

A murder wouldn't be good for the shop or the taping of the show...but such is life. Or in this case, death. Lucy isn't new to be entwined in a murder case. Nor is it the first time that a murdered body was found inside her shop.

Her undead friends enjoy such things. It gets a bit boring being a vampire and living so many years. So, with the help of Rafe and Theodore, who was a policeman in his previous life as a living man, they work on helping Detective Inspector Ian Chisholm solve this case. Of course, Ian doesn't know about all this behind the scene help.

Love this series that is full of humor and great characters.

Lucy Swift is running Cardinal Woolsey’s Yarn Shop which she inherited from her “undead” grandmother. In this book Cardinal Woolsey’s has been selected to host a televised knitting show featuring a renowned knitting artist, Teddy Lamont. The students for the show were all cast by the show producer. The first to arrive at Lucy’s shop the day prior to filming was a very snobbish, very unlikeable self important, Enid Selfe. Enid ends up being the murder victim and she had plenty of enemies. Lucy and her band of merry undead friends start investigating and discover hidden secrets behind all of the class members. So, who is the murderer?
Nancy Warren did an excellent job of keeping me guessing!
I really love this series. With each book I become more and more invested in Lucy, her shop and her friends and family. Lucy and Rafe have become close (clapping furiously here) but Lucy is still hesitant.
This is a fun paranormal series and I’d gladly recommend it.

Love this series. Lucy appears to be a magnet for murder & Rafe (yummy!). She’s a great character and is showing some maturity in her sleuthing and heritage, she’s very entertaining never fails to shock and surprise me. Gotta love Rafe though, he is so patient with her, protective of her & romantic, such an intriguing character. I can’t wait for them to get to do more “dating” and I think this time Lucy gets a bit of a wake-up call about her feelings for him. This plot is full of so many suspects that challenged me to really think about whodunnit although I am always become so eager and engrossed that I forget to even try to figure it out, I just hunker down and let Lucy take me for a roller-coaster ride instead. Much more fun that way! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author.

I absolutely love this series and I look forward to future books!

This book had a couple of issues though. There was definitely some hiccups with editing, so missing words and double commas.

Also there was 2 consistency issues.
*This book claimed that Alice did not know about the love potion that she placed in Charles' coffee and caused all the issues from a previous book.
*Lucy acted surprised when William told her that his family had been in Rafe's service for hundreds of years when Rafe told her that when she first met William. I like the back story behind that conversation, learning why William is in service to Rafe, but it took something away from it since she was either feigning surprise (which I don't think she was) or the author/editor forgot that this had already been established.

  • Jo Anne

I just love this funny, well written series about a young American who has inherited a knitting shop from her grandmother. She also inherits the nest of vampires, including her grandmother, that live UNDER the shop.
In this episode, Lucy's shop has been chosen to appear on a TV show for knitters. Six people have been chosen to appear on the show and they are all different, to show that all knitters are NOT old ladies. There's a Black Widow who immediately causes tension within the televised class. No surprise then when Lucy finds her dead in the shop the day after filming has started. Lucy trips over her, spilling her coffee all over her and crime scene.
Rafe, fearing for her safety, takes her to his house. They share some kisses.
    Who dun-it? Lucy knows!

Lace and Lies, Vampire Knitting Club #7
    by Nancy Warren

Lucy, Rafe, Violet and Nyxe are all back for another advenutre. In this outing a famous knitting designer is filming a how-to class to promote his latest book, and Lucy's yarn shop is chosen as the set for the film. Several knitters apply to be a part of the class, and the producers pick a wide range of ages, occupations, and both men and women. One of the women, is particularly obnoxious, and manages to put off everyone in the class, including the instructor. Next morning, Lucy comes down from her apartment to find that obnoxious woman dead in the middle of her shop. It's an interesting and complex romp to find out whodunit.

    Great summer read.

I definitely felt like this one turned up the nob on the mystery. I was not expecting what happened at all - almost to the point that I want to say it was unbelievable but the more I think about it the clues were there. They were just very subtly placed in the story. Out of all of the stories, I feel like this one would be one that I would enjoy reading a second time so I could search for those clues even more.

The love triangle between Ian, Lucy and Rafe is starting to lose my interest. I feel as though Ian and Lucy never got to really talk after the case with the love potion issues. So all we are getting now is expressions of awkwardness whenever Ian and Lucy have to interact. For me, this part is really starting to lose my interest.

  • Helen Drake

This series keeps gets better. This time Lucy and her shop are going to be on a TV program starring a person who is a famous knitter. The individuals selected to learn from the celebrity are especially chosen to represent a diverse group. One of the ladies is rich and thinks she knows better than the instructor. She also seems to rub almost everyone the wrong way. She’s found dead in Lucy’s shop. With the police having problems solving the murder, the detective who she briefly dated, asks for her help. With the help of the vampires who live under her shop and the local witches, the murder is finally solved. As usual there was a surprise ending.

I listened to the audiobook. The narrator did a wonderful job and brought the story to life.
