  Another very strong installment of The Nib's print magazine! I really enjoyed the interview with the Russian-born, queer journalist Masha Gessen (drawn by Eleri Harris), especially because I had recently listened to a very good interview with Gessen on the Nancy podcast. Andy Warner and Ellen T Crenshaw's piece on the decay of American infrastructure was disheartening, but illuminating. I learned some things I didn't know in "Video Empire" by Vreni, about the development of YouTube. Malaka Gharib and Trinidad Escobar's piece on "The Colonial Roots of Cheese Pimiento" and Ben Passmore's "Colony of a Colony" were both delightful. I highly recommend subscribing to this magazine if you haven't already!

  Favorite comic was the dystopia where in order to qualify for Amazon Prime, we have to serve 2 years in the Amazon militia, putting down striking Amazon workers violently.
  
  Liked seeing the perspectives of how empires had affected people (mostly negatively), and how everyone is now dealing with it.

  Similar critique to the other Nib print issue I've read--some of these stories need more space to breathe.
  
  (Also, cover's got Trump on it. Not any reason to remove a star; just annoying. I'd prefer not to see his face any more than I've got to.)

  Another powerful - and sometimes powerfully funny - issue of "The Nib." Also, a little frustrating; throughout history, there have always been people trying to rule and oppress other people, huh? #eattherich
  
  FAVORITES:
  "America In Decay" by Andy Warner & Ellen T. Crenshaw - A sobering look at how America's infrastructure has slowly crumbled over decades and how politicians have spent more time bickering with one another than doing anything about it.
  "The Colonial Roots Of Cheese Pimiento" by Malaka Gharib & Trinidad Escobar - A mouth-watering exploration of how even native culture can have its roots in colonialism.
  "Amazon Trooper: Special Delivery" by Matt Lubchansky - A not-too-far-off parody of the near-future Amazon death squads that will police the barren post-capitalism hellscape.
  
  Oh, and the archive of native artifacts stolen by the British Empire was pretty appalling, too.

  I really, really hate the cover to this. Just making it solid pink would have improved it 1000% percent. God I hate this cover, in general and as the cover for a magazine for comics. If I saw this in a store I would turn it around so no one had to look at it. I would never pick it up to see what was inside and if I hadn't known what the Nib was, I never would have thought there were comics inside. Fuck this cover

  I love this collection. When I saw the theme, I wondered how that was going to be handled. It's by clear looks at places where imperialism has screwed up the world. The British Empire, the American empire, Amazon, whatever. Blows against the empire! Informative and just the right combination of outrage and humor.
