African American savant Lark Chambers is young, beautiful and brilliant, an interpreter formerly trained by the United Nations. Fluent in seven languages, she's at the top of her game at Linguistics, Interpreting, Sign and Translation (LIST), the company that assigns her to Dario DiRossi, a multi-billion dollar textile heir, and currently her devastatingly handsome boss. DiRossi is no threat to her self control, however. As a product of the foster care system, Lark doesn't know the first thing about getting close enough to a man to trust him with her heart. But when a handsome stranger christens her first night in her favorite city of Florence with lovemaking, Lark finds herself confronting the turmoil behind her put- together exterior. And her latest assignment just might put her over the edge.

2.5 Stars
I never connected with this heroine nor did I feel any chemistry between her and the hero, though she seemed to be easily aroused by the hero's father.
Lark smiled, feeling a tinge of arousal at the touch of his lips. Werk Grandpa.
"You crave romance," he replied, the word "crave" rolling out of his mouth so easily sent a tingle up her spine. Holy hell, gramps, she thought.
The epilogue was the most interesting part of this story and I found myself wishing this had been the start of their Italian love story. -
Boring.. Lark was too immature. She was in dire need of a therapist, which is understandable due to the way she grew up. But she annoyed me..She got mad at Dario and wanted to keep him at arms length but became incensed when he was seeing the escorts. But speaking of Dario, he was immature too. Sleeping with married women, bringing the escorts where Lark can see them. Just to make her jealous. They wasted so much time on games and hurt feelings instead of just talking to each other. I didn't see how they were a match to begin with. This book was all over the place.

Love on a Lark
I loved her book The Leftovers. This was a frustrating read, it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. I loved the beginning when they first meet I thought I was in for a wild entertaining ride of push and pull and secret get togethers but it was a constant push with from main female character all the way to the end she had some serious issues couldn’t really connect with her through the rest of the book
☺️ but hey what don’t work for me might work for you

This book was actually the second story that I came up with after Amara's Calling. After I decided to make a series out of that, I tried to pick back up where I left off and start this book again, but it got put on the backburner for Leftovers. All I had in my mind at the time was two characters, passionate in different ways and for different reasons, yelling at each other in Italian. I just had to come up with a reason for that to happen. Thus, the book. Pretty much everything else was written in service to that moment. Oh, and I think I knew pretty early the heroine was going to be an interpreter.
Traveling abroad in my 20's made a huge impact on me as a woman of color. I really connected with Italy and basically wanted to write it a love letter. Coupled with the Italian/Greek heroes I started coming across in traditional romance reads, I knew I needed the Italian hero/black heroine dynamic to happen. I didn't follow any trends or anything, so this book is a little more of a sleeper, and I took a risk putting a love scene so soon in the story, another challenge I wanted to tackle. But I think it turned out great. -
Soul saving love
WOW! This was fantastic! C. L. Donley has done it again! Breathing life into characters; handsome and beautiful but with invisible scars and dreams of passion and love.
Out for a night fun and sexual adventure, Dario Robert Di Rossi and Lark Chambers meet. Sparks fly and with a single statement, “Questa nero”, love is born! They rescue each other from their self imposed exile from love and life. Survivors of situations out of their control, they find hope for a future but for a time, both in their own way struggle against and fight for what they want. -
Amazing
This was a very realistic novel. It was laden with womanizing attitudes along with culture, rich lifestyle and romance, oh, and different languages.
The characters were realistic, as were the scenarios and plotting. It came across as a very mature, romantic, luxe, story.
Some triggers can be: one night stands, womanizing, or orphans.
Otherwise, Donley has truly grown, this book was impeccably written, still maintaining her signature stylishness, had an endearing premise, was quite mature, and totally romantic. Love her! -
I loved it, admittedly Lark is a difficult character she is emotionally damaged so she sabotages her relationships and falls for the wrong type of people but then so is the Doria the hero a widower who is still mourning his wife a decade later when the two first get together it's a one night stand and Lark has no intention of seeing Dario ever again but as her bad luck would have she ends up working as an interpreter for him the rest as they say is history albeit a tumultuous one.

This book introduced the reader to another world and I love, love stories. But I think there were parts of it that were a bit of stretch and took me out of the story. Still, there were other redeemable parts to the story and some of the characters were enjoyable and believable, especially the father.
