This short story set in the author's Korovia fantasy world is the second serious work I have read of his. It has charm, is a right-sized story, and has a satisfying ending. It needed a good line edit to screen out some repetition, such as the account of how Hunter was named which is replicated almost exactly in the span of a couple of pages, and a few grammar flubs.

Still, I am coming to enjoy Korovia, built with classic Western fantasy elements judiciously applied, and will take another stroll in this world at some point in the future.

The text of the cover seen on Goodreads reports this as a "promotional prequel for the Chronomancer Series", a series which to my knowledge never came to fruition, at least not under that name. Speaking of the cover, let's take a closer look at the version on Amazon:

I feel like something is askew. This is not my preferred, ahem, end of a dog. Am I reading A Hound Named Hunter's Butt? It presents a slight marketing problem. The best I can hope is that it was meant as a wrap-around dustjacket and the best part of the dog could be found folded around the front cover.

I had a good oppotunity to read this while waiting at the DMV.
