Kara and Yasmeen have been best friends since high school.

Now in their early twenties, they're as radically different to one another in personality as they always have been.

Both have overcome the loss of their respective mothers, in albeit different circumstances which helped cement the bond between them.

Kara is a working class, out and proud lesbian, while Yasmeen is a spoiled, yet dutiful middle class Muslim on the verge of an arranged marriage.

Finally realising Kara is the one for her, Yasmeen is hell bent on living the life she wants, even if that means going against her father's wishes.

Kara doesn't need a declaration of love and is happy to remain hidden in the shadows, but Yasmeen will do whatever it takes to be with the one she loves.

First Kiss: A Lesbian Short Story Reviews

  • Kara

“First Kiss: A Lesbian Short Story” shows that sometimes it’s the second kiss that really counts!

MC Yasmine is terrified of going against her father’s wishes to marry, yet she finally is accepting that it’s her longtime friend, lesbian MC Kara that she wants to be with.

Does the father want Yasmine to be happy, or to be socially correct? This is a lesbian love story….what do you think he wants?

The narrator has a sexy voice, but sounds 16yo, not 24yo! 3.7*

Have you ever started reading a book just knowing in your heart how the story will end?
Well, you might not get the outcome you expected when reading First Kiss. I know I didn’t.

Luna Lopez has written a sweet short story that touched my heart and made me think about love.

First Kiss is a story of two women but let's back up. It's a story of two people. Two people who have been friends for a long time and now see their friendship could be more. That's a pretty risky thing to do regardless of their gender.

What happens if taking that first kiss ruins everything they have?
What if it ends the special connection which has grown over the years?
What if that first kiss makes everything better?
Does the fact these two people are women create other complications?

Will there be acceptance or rejection? First they must accept or reject the idea of more than friends themselves. How will their decision be accepted or rejected by family and friends?

Is the risk of losing it all worth taking a chance on love?

These were the questions and thoughts running through my mind while reading and even after I closed the book. I thought about how Ms. Lopez told this story and all of the ways it could have ended. I looked inside myself and tried to see all sides of this story. Like I said at the start, it touched my heart.

No spoilers in my review. You will have to read it yourself to find out more.

I am looking forward to reading Ms. Lopez's debut novel, Where the Heart Lies.

"Kara was the love of my life and no matter which way the tide turned, nothing and nobody would ever convince me to walk away from her."

Did you ever have that one friend - the one you knew you were in love with, but you were certain they didn't feel the same? And seeing them with someone else just about killed you? And when you finally have the opportunity to grab the brass ring, it was better than you ever imagined it could be? Well, Kara and Yasmeen did.

Kara just got dumped. In public. But, in reality, it was probably a blessing in disguise as it led her to the one she was meant to be with all along. She's always loved Yasmeen, but never thought for one minute Yas felt the same way. She was betrothed to man, after all. How wrong she was! When Yasmeen makes her feelings known, Kara fears they can never be together. Yasmeen's father would never accept their relationship, and if that happens, she'll have no choice but to walk away.

Yasmeen finally has her chance. Watching Kara with her partner had been killing her. But, now Kara is single again and she's not going to let the opportunity pass her by. The biggest hurdle? Her father. His old-world beliefs could destroy any chance they have before it even begins. Will he force her to marry the man he chose for her, or will her happiness mean more to him than tradition? Is she willing to walk away from her family for the sake of love?

I don't read a lot of F/F romance. In fact, this is only my second one. But, love and romance is love and romance. This story is a short one, but it is one of friendship and love, of embracing who you are and loving who you love, and of finding support in the places you didn't expect to find it. It's sweet and tender, and I loved it!! I can't wait to read more from this author!

Sweet short read of life long friends who end up being more than just best friends. Kara is out and proud and has always loved her best friend Yasmeen. Yasmeen is engaged to be married to Kaarim. That will soon change and we hope it'll be for the best. Enjoyed this blossoming love story.

This is a very short story about years of friendship turning into love. Kara has always loved Yasmeen, but Yasmeen was in an arranged marriage where she did not love or want to marriage him. She finally told her dad and you need to read to find out what he did.

Take the leap and See . . .

It's a sweet, quick friends to more story that is full of that angst of "I can't but I want to" kinds of thoughts on both sides. The story is really short with a lot of introspection as both girls work out their feelings for the other but it ultimately ends with a meaningful HEA.

Kara is a blue collar working class girl who has never been shy about being a lesbian; while Yasmeen is Muslim and a dutiful daddy's girl who has just entered an arranged marriage. The announcement of the marriage pushes Kara to finally admit her longstanding love for her BFF and allows Yasmeen to realize her true feelings.. But what will Yasmeen's stern traditional father do if he finds out?

I was a bit dubious reading this book because it isn't normally a genre I would turn to having never read one before. Luna is a new author so I thought I'd give it a go. I must say I really enjoyed this story. Yasmeen and Kara have been friends from high school. Kara is out and proud while Yasmeen is her best friend and they do everything together but yearning burns inside and none will act upon it. This is a beautifully written story that even though was short you get to see the full picture. Even though I've never read one before I will be keeping an eye out for when Luna has her next release. Lovely story kept me entertained I would definitely recommend this story

    Good short story

This is a short read but it is a good story and good characters. Would have been nice if it were a little longer but that's just my personal preference. The book is worth buying, if for nothing more than to look at the cover. I don't normally bother about the cover of the book but this one is hot.

This was a really good book. From the cover I thought it would be all about sex and F/F isn't a book I normally read. But, to my surprise it was just a mellow love story. This book is well written and the story flows.

Quick, short, and full of emotion; will she? and won't she? and could she? All emotional questions well written for the characters.
    A wonderful short story.

Kira and Yasmeen's story is one of so many who aren't sure how to express themselves in a world still founded on customs, rituals, and old world views. They navigate the waters with heartfelt determination despite the unknown.

Luna Lopez debuts this F/F novel with tremendous strength and fortitude on a subject which still raises the hairs of the traditional and resonates with the new. She develops the plot through sound characterization and strength in theme. She brings on all the feels and there won't be a dry eye in the house by the last drying ink penned by Lopez. She's an author worth keeping your eye on in the future.
