बेस्ट सेलर रही पुस्तक महिषासुर एक जननायक का यह दूसरा संस्करण है। यह किताब भारत में शुरू हुए बहुजन सांस्कृतिक विमर्श पर आधारित है। इस पुस्तक में संकलित एक लेख में झारखंड के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री व दिशोम गुरु शिबू सोरेन कहते हैं, "जब बचपन में मैं रावण वद्ध और महिषासुर मर्दिनी दुर्गा के बारे में सुनता था तब अजीब लगता था। अजीब लगने की वजह यह थी कि महिषासुर और उसकी वेशभूषा बिल्कुल हमलोगों के जैसी थी। वह हमारी तरह ही जंगलों में रहता था, गायें चराता था, शिकार करता था। फिर एक सवाल जो मुझे परेशान करता था, वह यह कि आखिर देवताओं को हम असुरों के साथ युद्ध क्यों लड़ना पड़ा होगा। फिर जब बड़ा हुआ तो सारी बारें समझ आयी कि यह सब अभिजात्य वर्ग की साजिश थी, हमारे जल, जंगल और जमीन पर अधिकार करने के लिए। जब मुझे वर्ष 2005 में झारखंड का मुख्यमंत्री बनने का मौका पहली बार मिला, तब मैंने झारखंड में रहने वाले असुर जाति के लोगों के कल्याण के लिए एक विशेष सर्वे करने की योजना बनायी थी। इसका उद्देश्य यह था कि विलुप्त होती जाति को बचाया जा सके और उन्हें समाज की मुख्यधारा से जोड़ा जा सके। वर्ष 2008 में दूसरी बार मुख्यमंत्री बनने पर भी मैंने इस दिशा में एक ठोस नीति बनाने की पहल की, लेकिन ऐसा न हो सका। बहरहाल आज की युवा पीढ़ी अभिजात्यों द्वारा फैलाये गए अंधविश्वास की सच्चाई को समझे और नये समाज के निर्माण में योगदान दे।"

    The contributors don't seem to be exploring an academic pursuit. Rather, they seem angry to the extent that they have lost the power of reason.
    The book is at best in mode of abusive propaganda. With the alleged researchers, some amount of credible research would have not done any harm. Would it?

    Not surprising to those who are aware of top historians DD kosambi, D.N Jha or even Suvira Jaiswal Wendy Doniger. One gripe I have with not the book per se but this whole subaltern studies, cultural exploration & pride.. is it's rejection of any notion or struggle for socialism. Will a proportional presentation proposition solve anything. One can argue that at least that is marginally better but is it..it lulls people into thinking that that is the end all be all of all struggles where clearly it isn't.
    One needs a framework to ascertain what view stands up to scrutiny as no matter how bottom up one wishes to be in their approach, one cannot seriously claim that every view is as good as every other view.
    Aspiring to be equal partners in an oppressive socio-économic system cannot be a sane goal. That struggle cannot be fractured away & banished in place of just a cultural struggle no matter how justified that cultural struggle maybe.
    No cultural struggle can be 'successful' without at least a simultaneous struggle for socialism.
