Getting the job as a backup singer in the breakout rock band Killer Valentine is the chance of a lifetime for curvy, redheaded Rhiannon Macallen. She has spent every moment of the last five years preparing for her shot at the spotlight with a breakneck schedule of music lessons, band performances, and voice coaching that has consumed every second of her life and every penny from her poverty-level part-time job.
The contract she signs has an ironclad no-fraternization clause: no screwing around with the band members.
But Killer Valentine is falling apart. Drugs, groupies, and the rock-and-roll lifestyle are seducing the rockers despite the desperate efforts of the lead singer and the band manager, a green-eyed, gorgeous hunk named Jonas Rees. Rhiannon tries to help Jonas hold the band together, but every time they retrieve one of the rockers from another drug-addled disaster, Jonas’s sultry looks and lingering touches make her yearn for what might have been.
Unless she’s willing to risk her only chance at stardom for love.
What A Girl Wants: Rock Stars in Disguise: Rhiannon Reviews
-
This was a quick rock romance read following the very popular rock band Killer Valentine. They were selling out arenas and now were gearing up for their next step up and that was selling out stadiums. That is if they don’t self-implode first. Is this what struggling musician Rhiannon Macallen wants to attach herself to as their backup singer especially with the very talented but very moody, hard driving lead singer Xan? Hell Yes!! This is the opportunity of a lifetime and just what Rhiannon needs to get her singing career off the ground. One stipulation of signing with Killer Valentine; there is to be no fraternizing with the band.
Rhiannon was very career minded which showed through as to how she lead her life before getting this gig. Everything she did or got went into her music so when the chance to audition for backup singer with Killer Valentine came there was no way she wasn’t going to try out. Upon walking into the audition she thought she didn’t have a chance because pretty much everyone there had the perfect body, the perfect face, and a great voice. Rhiannon felt she was a heavier girl, had red hair, and average on looks so this was probably going to go nowhere but she had to try.
Once Rhiannon hit the road with the band she learned a lot from Xan just by being around him. Her voice was improving the longer she was with the band. She also helps look after some of the guys in the band known as “the terrible threesome” because they did not know how to keep their butts clean. Multiple rehab stints did nothing for them and the way that Xan was pushing this band Jonas, the band manager, had all he could handle trying to keep these guys out of trouble long enough for this band to succeed. Over time Jonas and Rhiannon were growing closer but she did not want to take the chance with the fraternization clause in her contract that would send her packing if she crossed any line and she knew Xan would do it. Hell, he threatened all the other guys in the band the same thing at one time or another.
So was Rhiannon willing to take that chance with Jonas who she had grown closer to over the time and was he even considered part of the band for that matter? Was Xan able to hold this band together in order to achieve the greatness that they were destined for or would some of the guys in the band fall by the wayside and bring Killer Valentine to a screeching halt? And as for Rhiannon would she be able to hold her own with this band and what was in store next for her once this tour ended? You have to read this book to find these things out and then some. It is a book that you won’t put down because you can’t wait to see what is actually going to happen to Rhiannon and Killer Valentine. I have to say that I loved the storyline between Rhiannon and Jonas because it was one of those “feel good” romances that have you rooting for the couple. I definitely plan on following any other books by this author because she writes a kickass rocker book. -
A girl who has come so far with big dreams finally gets her chance. It's the chance of a lifetime to tour as the back-up singer for Killer Valentine until she sees behind the facade and gets to know the players. Complicated and conflicted, she keeps working hard for the one thing that sustained her through years of foster care and living hand to mouth. Rhiannon's story provided an engaging plot, fascinating glimpses behind the scenes of a rock band tour, deftly drawn characters, and a complicated romance.
It exceeded my expectation and left me eager to continue with this new to me author and new to me series of NA Rocker Romances. I read this as part of the Red Hot Lovers box set and have yet to read a dud even five stories in. I love this opportunity to sample and try new authors and series.
Rhiannon MaCallen is the narrator for most of the story, but she takes turns with the hero, band manager, Jonas. Rhiannon had a rough past and it has shaped her. She is focused and dedicated. She is grounded which helps her survive as a rock band tour newbie. Her head isn't turned by the drug, sex, and fame. She treats the band as her family to care for and have their backs even if they don't appreciate this. Jonas sees all and does appreciate Rhiannon right down to the fact that she has serious talent.
But there are barriers for Rhiannon and Jonas to make a go of the attraction and friendship and connection they share. There is that tight fraternization clause that Rhiannon will not cross because her career means too much and then there is her career that will eventually take her away from the band.
The story was engaging and I stayed interested the entire way. There is some shifting between active and passive voice that created some distance at times and the reader has to really pay attention at the breaks because there are leaps in time. The ending comes swift even though it brings a smile and makes it clear what direction things will go.
All in all, I was well pleased and would definitely recommend it to those who enjoy rocker romances. This is NA, but it has an adult feel to it as a result of the maturity in the main characters. It is also a first in series and has me eager to continue getting the stories of the rest of the band.
My thanks to the authors for providing the set of stories in exchange for an honest review. -
Good lord I love Blair, she brings it when she writes and draws the reader in each and every time.
Another look at the Killer Valentine band from the perspective of the back up singer and band manager. Love how Rhiannon jumps right in and helps where she's needed. This brings her in close contact with Jonas, the sexy band manager.
The attraction is strong and Rhiannon is determined she's not breaking the non-fraternizing clause in her contract. Since Jonas wrote it, I'm pretty sure he'll figure a way around it! Jonas sees Rhiannon as the next big star on the horizon while she is still trying to keep her spot in the band. Rhiannon doesn't realize she's getting better with each concert the band gives- her band mates sure do. -
First of all, I love Blair Babylon. Her Billionaires in Disguise series is amazing and you really should check it out. That being said, this is unlike anything else I've ever read by Blair. That is not to say there is anything wrong with it, it was just a bit of a surprise. This book is written as "New Adult", which probably accounts for the difference.
Everything else I've ever read by Blair was outright pure hot sexy erotica, with lots of hot sweaty bodies. This has hot characters, especially Rhiannon and Jonas, but there is very little time spent between the sheets. However, I guess that just leaves more time for the story. And what a story it is. We get behind the scenes at the Killer Valentine concert tour, and watch the struggles of this up and coming band.
The man holding it all together is Jonas, a star-maker manager with a proven track record. He knows Killer Valentine could be a legendary band if only they don't self-destruct. Tossed into this powder-keg is new back-up singer Rhiannon. Sweet, sexy, and with an amazing voice, she is determined to make it in this business.
What Rhiannon and Jonas don't count on is falling for each other. They both turn to each other to deal with the stresses of concert life, and find themselves falling in love. But Rhiannon had to sign a strict no fraternization clause in her contract, so could their relationship sabotage her music career? If faced with the choice between the man she loves and her lifelong dream to be a musician, what will she choose?
Although this is the first in her new Rock Stars in Disguise series know that it is a standalone story. Future volumes will focus on other members of the band. I'm looking forward to reading Tryp's story in the next book. -

REVIEW
This is a new to me author.
We have 22 year old Rhiannon who is a singer and struggling but when we learn more about her it just all goes with her attitude.
She has gone to a competition to be backup singer for the band Killer Valentine. When she lands the position she is overjoyed because unlike the Barbie doll types who were there she is not like any of them she is a bit chubby and doesn’t think to high of herself in the beauty department. She signs their contract and makes plans.
Rule of the band. NO messing with the band members or your fired that was repeated to her many times.
The lead singer has some issues at a few of their tour stops and Rhiannon steps in not only that a few of the band members are drugged out, not doing as they are suppose to and again its Rhiannon to the rescue..
But then it happens Jonas Rees the bands Manager causes Rhiannon to almost lose her position in the band.
Well I am not going to tell you anything more because yea no spoilers.. This was a really easy read, I enjoyed it and I would recommend it.
I was gifted a copy of this book for my honest review
Blair Babylon -
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was nice to see the other sides to the hard as nails manager. Seeing him falling in love was cute & sexy as hell. Watching the struggling backing singer find her feet, confidence & then love was blissful, They're great together!! I hope Rhiannon gets a follow up short story or epilogue as her career takes off. It would actually be lovely to see them all meet up again some form after the final epilogue in Cadell, for instance, so we can see where they all are now .... Blair??? LOL
(Xan wasn't very kind in this book btw)
Highly recommend this series. This author is truly gifted with the written word!!

4.5 Crazy Stars!!!
Let me start off by saying, "I absolutely luuuuuuv Blair Babylon!" Her stories are captivating and draw you right in. This book is no exception. It is a great quick read and I could not put it down. Although the ending was a little predictable, I enjoyed Rhiannon & Jonas' story. I can't wait to read Tryp's Story next. -
A down on her luck, aspiring singer auditions as a back-up singer with nothing to lose. She doesn’t quite fit the image, but she has a set of pipes, a unique voice and stage presence.
〰️ Indie band
〰️ Non-fraternisation clause
〰️ Mutiny amongst the band members
Secrets, low on angst, confrontational...overall a cute story.
The End. -
This novella gives the reader some behind the scenes details of the rock band Killer Valentine, through the band’s manager Jonas Rees, and the new back-up singer Rhiannon Macallen. This book fills in details for the rest of this series, and will make your reading of the books more enjoyable. Both characters are well developed, and are both very likeable. Great short book!

I learned so much about how Killer Vantine ticks. This is focused on a new member who quickly becomes very important. I love everything about this book!!

The thing I liked most about this story is that Rhiannon Macallen is "every girl" who thinks she isn't what men would want. When she signs the contract to work with Killer Valentine, there's a no fraternization clause in it, a necessity to prevent band in-fighting and other problems. She has no problem with this clause until the day she finds herself alone with hot and sexy Jonas Rees, the band's manager. Sparks fly, and decisions have to be made concerning whether they tell Xan Valentine about their relationship or not and what it will do to the position she holds in the band.
This was such a sweet romance even with the steam. Rhiannon and Jonas sizzled from the beginning and found that they had so much in common. It overstepped the boundaries of looks and self-image and proved that others see someone completely different than we do in own mind's eye. It was fun and delightful even with the addition of the craziness of belonging to a famous rock band. I loved it and rooted for them as soon as their relationship began. -
I keep reading Blair's books out of order but that doesn't seem to matter much since I enjoy them all as stand-alone stories.
Rhiannon is hired to be the backup singer for the band Killer Valentine. The biggest rule is no relationships with any band members. Jonas, the band manager put that rule in the contract after previous problems. Too bad Jonas is falling for Rhiannon. -
Rhiannon and Jonas, who would have thought!
Rhiannon the new back up singer for KV is very talented and sweet. She is always helping Jonás ride herd on the band members and helps everyone in that band that needs her. Jonás sees her potential in the near future as a solo talent. He can’t help but fall in love with her for her sweet disposition and genuineness -
Fast Paced and Exciting
4.5 Stars
From the first page this was an exciting, fast-paced page turner of a book. Blair Babylon certainly has a way with words, and makes her characters well rounded. You can't help but get sucked into this story.
Looking forward to more books in the Rock Stars series of books. -
This short read was a good read about Rhiannon and Jonas was one hot read that also gave a small insight into the Killer Valentine band. The pair had amazing chemistry together and had me hooked from the start of their story. This book also left me wanting to know more about the other members of band.
-
This was a fun storyline of a backup singer coming up from nothing. This book was definitely of the sex, drugs, and rock n roll type. I liked that she didn’t gravitate to the actual rock stars. We got to see quite a bit of all of the characters from this band and it set up the series very well. There are a couple steamy scenes.
-
Killer Valentine is the next big thing in rock if they don’t implode. Rhiannon is a struggling singer with big dreams. This is her big chance all she need do is survive life on the road with the band. Their manager Jonas recognizes that Rhiannon has real talent and a big future.
-
I know it’s a novella but it was too short for my liking. No time for character or story development. After reading the full sets of Rae and Lizzy’s stories (Billionaires in Disguise) I found this lacking.
-
Pretty abrupt ending...I felt like the author was setting the story up for something bad to happen between Rhiannon and Jonas, but there was nothing to that - but maybe I'm the only one who got that feeling.
-
This is part of the rock romance series about Killer Valentine. It is a shorter piece about their manager Jonas, and the new backup singer Rhiannon. I liked having this part of the rock world. The relationship was good, I liked the characters.
-
It is a great book to read
-
Simple, easy read for the treadmill. I enjoyed having a less than Barbie-doll gal reach the top!
-
I liked how realistic the majority of the book was. The characters were believable and well developed, really nothing not to like, other than that it could have used a nice conclusion.
-
Rhiannon’s story was short and quick but had all the elements I expect from Blair.
