Dragon Shifter Island (Dragon Shifter Boxset) Reviews

This is a real Meh kind of book. I read book one, which was okay, and made it part way through book 2 before I got bored enough to move on. Not bad enough to get one star, but not worth continuing.

Not a fan
This is the first time I have read anything by this author. And I am not a big fan. This was a box set and all the books were the same just different names. And they dragged on and on about the same thing. I wouldn't recommend these books unless you want something to help you get to sleep at night. -
On an island full of dragons, they will do whatever it takes to protect and claim their mates! The complete series in this boxset includes: Saved by Dragons, A Dragon Xmas Miracle, Claimed by a Dragon, and Sold to a Dragon. Below are reviews of two of them to give you an idea of what you may find in this excellent collection!
*** Reviewing SOLD TO A DRAGON ***
Sam had always longed for a loving romance with her Prince Charming, so she was easy prey for handsome, strong, and fit Ron. She didn’t realize what he was really like – nor what he really was! When she tried to break up with him, he smacked her and, in his anger, he shifted to his wolf form. She managed to trick him into walking out the door, then she turned and locked it behind him. Sometime later, the door shattered and he stalked toward her in his human form. He smashed the bathroom door into her head and the world went dark around her.
Sam awoke in a small hut with ocean waves crashing outside! She had no idea where she was, especially since she did not live near an ocean! She found Ron in the kitchen area, acting like they were merely on vacation. But when she demanded to go home, he screamed that she would be his mate and, slapping her in the face, he dragged her into the bedroom. Weeks later, she tried once more to escape – despite knowing she was on an island – but Ron caught her and smacked her around again. By now, she had realized she was pregnant; but he thought his attempt to get her pregnant had failed. So this time, he decided he would make money off of her and SELL her to someone else! Was this her way to freedom? Or would she suffer as someone else’s possession, someone who may be just as cruel as or worse than Ron? And what would that person do when he discovered she was carrying someone else’s child?
The story was well written and the characters described in a way that showed their personalities. Sam is introduced to a different world from what she is used to, and has to keep her baby safe while she has no control over the horrible situation she finds herself having to endure. Is there a HEA for her? Can her dragon, Axel, protect her from the abusive wolf that sold her? Will she give Axel a chance to show her his world and how different it can be for her?
*** Reviewing CLAIMED BY A DRAGON ***
Working two jobs and putting herself through college, Lauren became a private marketer and was able to make good money. She got an apartment for her mom and one for herself. Then she met Bradley and thought she was in love. He started staying at her apartment, then let his own lease lapse so he could move into hers fully. Despite warnings from friends, she saw no problem with this since she hoped to have a future with him. Her only stipulation was that she wanted to remain a virgin until they married. Bradley accepted that condition.
When Lauren got home from work, Bradley was in the shower – much earlier than he usually showered. His phone rang and when she answered, a woman nervously said she had the wrong number. When Bradley sat down to eat, she asked him about the call and he ignored her, but grabbed his phone and closed himself in the bedroom. She put her ear to the door and listened, confirming he was having an affair with the woman and laughing that Lauren suspected nothing. Bradley had to go.
Lauren broke off her relationship with her cheating boyfriend. Her father had been the same way, cheating on her mother and leaving all of his children without a second thought. Lauren moved to an island and hired Dane from Dragon Contracting to work for her. Dane of course realizes that Lauren is his mate. He is a sweet, kind man and doesn’t make demands on her. But when Bradley stalks her and puts her in danger, Dane’s protective nature comes out! Can Lauren push away her troubled past with men who let her down and learn to trust Dane? Can they have a future together?
I loved Dane in this book. He was a sweetheart. I had more trouble with Lauren whose totally naïve persona was hard to believe. Her rags-to-riches story -- even working TWO waitress jobs to put herself through college and then become a wealthy success -- was very much implausible. I just didn’t feel able to connect with her. But the story was well written and it did keep me reading to the end to see how everything worked out. The nasty boyfriend stalker was a good addition to keep the suspense going – I’m sure we all wanted to see him get what he deserved! -

Wishy-washy
Dragon Shifter Island (The Complete Series Books 1- 4)

I enjoyed each book in this series but I think book one is my favorite. All the books have action, drama, and HOT sex. I felt more LOVE between the dragon(s) and the female in this story than I did the others. It felt like they HAD to mate with someone and you're available so let's do this instead of a love match. And the women we're so wishy-washy that I wanted to reach through my tablet and smack them in the face. Example in "Claimed By A Dragon" Dane did EVERYTHING to relax Lauren and she still pulled him along like a little puppy. Here she has this man (yes a dragon) telling you he loves her. And SHE is wishy-washy overtaking the next step when she's already given him her v card. I mean her relationship with Dean was only 6 months. She's had no other bad relationships except for her father and her mother's example. I mean come on. But that is the way it was written, I was able to get past MY problems and enjoyed the books. -
This is the very first Dragon Shifter book that I've DNF'd. I don't DNF too many books, and especially not those on Dragon Shifters. They're probably my favorite people, er, Dragons of all. Not this bunch.
First, someone please tell the author that if you are being raped and/or assaulted, you don't then turn around, watch TV, eat food normally, and fall in love...at least not until 20 pages or so have passed (don't worry, that was said tongue in cheek). Second, holy God could we possibly have any more juvenile scenes and dialogue!? Third, how the hell do you ruin a book about dragons????
I'm only giving this one star because I'm forced to. Grammar needs to be something learned by the author. She might want to get Grammar for Dummies, or maybe Book Writing for Dummies before she attempts another mess.
There are people who can tell stories, then there are people who can write them. Rarely (especially on Amazon among the thousands of women who think they can write romance) is there one who actually CAN both write and tell a story. Not this author. -
Good series to read.
Saved by Dragons
This book was awesome. After she was kidnapped and rapped by werewolves she was rescued by dragons. Can she pick just one of them? Or will she get her dream and have them all?
Dragons Xmas Miracle
The story was good but wasnt quite the story i was expecting. We still follow how there relationship is to go. But will she forgive his lies.
Claimed by a Dragon
This was not the typical find mate fall in love romance. We follow thier struggles and watch as she leans to let go of the past and learn to love and be loved. Can she finally let him in? Will she keep him out or except the love he has to give?
Sold to a Dragon
We meet Sam and follow her thru ups and downs. She met a guy named Ron and tjought she loved him. When he couldnt get her to sleep with him he did some underhanded things. When she got with Axel she didnt know if she could trust him. Can he win her over? Will she accept his dragon? -
A great collection
3 1/2 - 4 stars
This was a great collection of shifter stories that I enjoyed. They're not a series or even related, although each story is held on the same island. There was a lot of passion in the stories, but it was more of a pg-13 version, at least to me.
The reason I gave the rating I did was because there were numerous editing issues in each of the stories, but from the third book to the end, it was a lot worse. There were times when it did affect the flow of the story, especially when you had to try and figure out what exactly was being said, and by whom. Otherwise, it was a great collection.
I would recommend this book, but beware of the editing issues. -
Worth reading
All the storlines were good and I loved the characters. Only two things bothered me about all them. One, the stories almost seemed to be rushed and missing a little more back ground than it should have been. Second, there are quite a few grammar mistakes like missing words or misspelling and even incomplete sentences. With that being said, I still love this series. The grammar issues weren't bad enough that I couldn't figure out what was going on and the characters alone made this series worth reading. -
This series shows both the positive and negative side of dating shifters. They have some bad experiences before finding their right one.
I have to admit that I prefer a more positive view of shifters. I don't expect all of them to be nice but in this set you get some real ugliness. They aren't just bad dates but attack these women. They then try to find some safety and encounter shifters who treat them with respect.
I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received. -
Dragon Shifter Island
While the storylines are good. The story itself was fragmented and details changed in the middle. A couple of chapters in the second book seemed totally out of place. Made it hard to follow. -
KU Edition reader
Good boxset of stories, with a few twists on the paranormal realm. Plenty of action and excitement. The female characters had been though alot, and were a bit whiny, but came around in the end...lol -
Quite entertaining
An ok series. All the stories were a pleasant read even though they were pretty much the same . I did find the characters pretty bland. Not a bad box set just slightly boring in places. -
It was ok
I have a read many books by Maia Starr and I had enjoyed every single one of them. But this book is what kind of boring 2 min locking of description of the characters. I I have seen better books from her then this collection. -
Excellent
Wow this box set was amazing to read
Lots of action and laughter
These dragons are awesome and their mates -
Loved the stories except for the abuse scenes
I don't care for any abuse scenes from the ex's but loved your love stories and will definitely look for more of your books
