Venus Trap (Hidden Portals Trilogy #1) Reviews

  • Merissa (Archaeolibrarian)

Venus Trap is the first book in the Hidden Portals series, and we start off with a storm, a death, and a mad king. Sounds good, right? Wrong! This is brilliant.

Artemis is a Fae, Raphael is a vampire. We also meet with other Fae, Humans, Witches, Vampires, and Demons are mentioned. So right there, we have different species, all with their own history and thoughts, and pitted against each other. Who is telling the truth? Who will fight with whom?

We find out more about Artemis' history as the story progresses, and the reasons she has for feeling the way she does. Raphael has distanced himself from the rest of his race, partly due to his friend, Claude, otherwise known as the mad king.

With intrigue, steam, action, wit, and a strong, sassy female paired with a strong, opinionated male, this book has something for everyone. There were no editing or grammatical errors I noticed, and I thoroughly enjoyed every word.

With an epic finishing line, this will definitely leave you wanting more. Absolutely recommended by me.

    * A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

The Venus Trap by Maya Daniels is a great read for all fantasy lovers.

Artemis is a Dark Fae, seeking justice for the murder of her mother. For centuries the portals between worlds have been sealed, and only through Artemis’ royal bloodline is she able to open the portal and seek her revenge.
Raphael is a Vampire bored with his immortal existence, but when his friends start dying he decides to investigate.
Together Artemis and Raphael will fight to right past wrongs; friends become foes and enemies become allies.

I didn’t want to close this book! The story was gripping and the plot utterly interesting and new. I can’t wait for the next book in this fantastical trilogy.

An enemies to lovers fantasy romance.

A Vampire and a sassy fae together means fireworks. The story has enough action and twists and turns to keep you turning the page. Thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to the 2nd book.

  • S.K. Wee

Paranormal romance between an old, cynical vampire and a beautiful fae who is bent on vengeance. Artemis has been groomed for centuries to lead an army into the human realm to kill all humans and vampires. This is her sole mission in life and she seems to have all the skills and incentive to carry it out. The fae are waiting for the portal to open but she has been able to sneak through several times though not in human form.
This is a well-written and engaging story with plenty of action and intrigue. The author does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life. Though there are steamy scenes, they aren’t the central focus of the story. I’ll be looking forward to the next installment, highly recommended!

Maya Daniels is an amazing author. With Venus Trap, she was able to get my attention and keep my attention from the beginning to the end!!!

Artemis, is a ruthless predator who starts the story by hunting vampires. Raphael is a vampire who is trying to figure out who is killing his kind. Raphael is ready to stop whoever is killing his kind at all cost. Or is he??? I don't write spoilers -- but OMG OMG OMG - this is the best book that I have read and it's ability to keep my attention is unreal!!!

This is definitely a book that will keep your attention -- had me up and reading at 2am!! I'm so looking forward to book two of the series!!!

    Could not put it down!

What a great story! I was hooked from the start! Usually I don't enjoy stories written as third person, but the way this one was done actually made it feel new and exciting. I loved the characters and world created, so much so that I literally fell asleep with the book in my hand as I didn't want to stop reading!
Can't wait to find out what happens next!

Artemis is one of my new favorite kick ass women. No matter her fae background .. she kicks ass and takes names. This story surprised me. I love reading books from new authors and especially from my fav blogger. I was given this book for my honest review. And I have to say this books is awesome. Little killing, little suspense, little mating, some hot sex... then add the twist in the plot. I read a lot of books.. and this surprised me. Way to come up with a new twist in fae, vampires, witches and humans. Loved it. I don’t like reviewing and giving away plots. But this did not disappoint. I can’t wait for book 2 to be released. Awesome work!!

Who is killing the vampires and why? Raphael is called to the King’s palace to help find the reason. He goes to a witch to find the answers. In a ritual, Iris is calling upon the goddess Artemis only to learn she called a powerful fae instead who bears the same name. Artemis is powerful dark fae intent upon killing all the vampires and humans! She wants revenge! Taken prisoner in the human realm something transpires between her and Raphael as they search for answers. It seems everyone has secrets that could point them in the right direction to a prophecy that will be fulfilled. When they unravel the secrets both realms are in trouble…but what can they do to save both? This is the first book in a new series that is action-packed from page one. It will keep you spellbound as Artemis and Raphael struggle to uncover ancient secrets to unlock a prophecy! I received this book as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
