I loved this book and would especially recommend it to anyone that likes to read historical fiction, accounts of the civil war, or Appalachia/regional fiction.
The characters and setting are vividly detailed and will make an impression on your heart that you won't forget.
Jim Shope does a wonderful job of taking the reader along Alf's journey, and what a journey it was!

Civil War historical fiction has never been of interest to me. I changed my mind when I read this novel. Although Cold Mountain, by Charles Frazier, was given media credence I couldn't get past the first ninety pages. I put it down. With Tales from Skeenah Creek, I couldn't stop reading. I didn't care what time it was or what I had to do the next day. I kept reading. I was quite sad when I reached the end. Alfred Shope, the protagonist, felt like an old friend and I was peering inside his mind. I cannot fathom a person enduring a life like his during this time in our nation's history. I found myself wishing I could have spoken to the man and asked questions. I look forward to the next installment in the life of Alf Shope. Keep writing, Jim. I want to know more about the man from Skeenah Creek.

Interesting to read of happenings near my home. But some grammar/editing errors distracted from the read.
