Lumberjanes: The Life of the Party, Part 3 (Lumberjanes, #59) Reviews
-
This was a slog to get through. General consensus seems to be that around this issue, readers are questioning if they will continue with the series. Obviously you want to see a thing you enjoy continue but also it’s smart to end when things are good. This series is beginning to drag out with issues that feel unnecessary and at times repetitive.
-
When my dad saw the cover of this issue, he said: "I guess they're just gonna get eaten by that sea monster, huh." I laughed, thinking, surely not. But here we are.
-
It might be close to the end of my interest in this series. What should be a fun birthday caper just seems a bit tedious, despite the epic sea serpent, selkies, and pirates, oh my.
I might just try issue 60 just to hit a milestone, and for one final chance! -
2.75 Stars. The drawing style really ain't it for me and the plot and excitement I used to enjoy is gone. Not sure if I'll be continuing this series anymore.

Annnnnd the birthday plot continues. I’ll admit that I kind of love that they’re finally bringing this discussion out into the open. I adore April, but sometimes she gets so caught up in her ideas that she forgets to think about the people she’s supposedly plotting for.
The other half of this plot is the more surreal one, in true Lumberjanes fashion. But it certainly has been interesting. I have a feeling that half the crew will be sad that they missed out. Probably. Either way, I’m not sure it’s what I’d have asked for when it comes to birthday adventures…. -
Third issue of this arc. Plan B for the birthday celebration is on. April is running around trying to get everything in top shape but inconveniences occur.
Meanwhile Jo, Mal, Jen and Barney help the selkies look for S.K.
Favorite part:
It seems everything at camp is getting sorted out, now we only need the birthday girl. -
Well, it seems half our girls (and Barney and the selkies) have gotten themselves in quite the pickle. It'll be interesting to see how this all works out and if they make it back in time for April's giant plan or not! But one thing's for sure - April and Jo need to talk.
-
I don't really know how I feel about this series anymore? I really liked that Jo finally told the Lumberjanes how she feels about April throwing her a big party, but the rest of the issue was tedious and mostly uninteresting?
-
3.5 stars. I just don’t know how I feel about this series anymore. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I love how much the interpersonal conflict in Lumberjanes comes from the gals wanting so much to do right by each other, only to get foiled by the sheer fact of being different people with different affection styles and different desires. It's super real.
EDIT: I see that general consensus is a dislike for this arc, and this issue in particular, but honestly I think this is the best that it's been for a while. But I like a bottle episode, and it doesn't get much more bottlenecked than "inside a sea serpent." -
Fun.
