Spirit Day: A Book About Spreading Joy Reviews

This is a beginning book. I didn’t really know what I was getting when I ordered it. When I got the book I realized it was very basic, so I did not read this to the nephew. I know he would not have enjoyed this at all.

I will say, I’ve never heard of ‘Spirit Day’ I guess this is a new thing people are trying to catch on. It’s a day to stand up to bullying and wear a purple shirt. It’s the 3rd Thursday in October. It’s a day to support LGBTQ youth. I mean it sounds wonderful and all, but it’s the first I’ve heard of it. I love purple, so I can do this, but they need to do a bit more marketing.

Diverse cast and it’s about being proud of who you are and standing up to bullies in this book. Simple. It’s not really a story so it’s more just a commercial. The art has a lot of spirit in it.

    An anti bullying book
I wish this were a picture book instead of a board book.
Also define "spreading joy" (((eye roll)))

I'm not sure why this was sold as a board book instead of a picture book. It is all about being kind and supporting others and I think making it a board book limits its audience. The flow of the text is also off - I particularly didn't like the page that states a person with spirit can help someone who is upset and hurt. The sentiment is correct, just not the word choice. That particular spread just doesn't fit with the flow of the rest of the book. It is super cool though that there is a book for Spirit Day that encourages people to support LGBTQ youth

Celebrate Spirit Day, the third Thursday of October by being proud of who you are, supporting LGBTQ youth, and stopping bullying. Vibrant illustrations bring to life a wonderfully diverse group of kids of various backgrounds and abilities. Shares a wonderful message of hope, kindness, and small acts of activism.
