Anne Rices The Tale of the Body Thief (A Graphic Novel) Reviews

Somewhat scary and creepy. If only I didn't have the mental image of Lestat - which Anne Rice did well - as homosexual, this might actually have had a spot in my favorites shelf.

Lestat's experience as a human again cracked me up a bit. He kept whining on and on about how the human body he inhabited sucked.

I've read this book a couple years back and I've read the first few Vampire Chronicles as well. I remember how much I liked the first three books but then when the rest of the books came, I was dismayed to carry on because of the gay feel of the story. Not that I have anything against gay people.. It's just that my mental image of Lestat was this hot, golden haired, Dark god whom women would gladly scratch each others' eyes out just for a bite from him.

Sadly (for me), it all came crashing down when Lestat hooked up with David.

    Oh, well..

Along with The Witching Hour, my favorite Ann Rice.

This was a very well told re telling of the Vampire Chronicle novel of The Body Thief in graphic form.
Although a relatively thin volume, it was true to both the gist of Anne Rice's storey and her language in the text of its telling.
I found the graphic formal to be less artistic than others I have read, but the storyboarding was consistent making this a good use of the medium to refresh someone already familiar with the novel.
I would be hesitant in recommending it to someone not already familiar with the novel or the series; And this format did significantly limit the beautiful gothic romantic impact that Anne Rice's rich writing style can have, while the abundance of pre formed imagery can also reduce the imagination in questioning and exploring some of the philosophic existential themes that this author's work is famous for.

Read this a really long time ago and was intending to re-read it but since hearing of Anne's passing, I've decided not to do that (it just doesn't feel right). There is only one memory I have of reading this book and that is that it's one of the best stories she has ever written bar Interview with the Vampire. If you're going to read any other book by Anne, make sure it's the book version of this (not the graphic novel).

At first the story is not so appealing, but going on it really takes the reader. Of course everything start going better when the body theft happens, and since that moment, even though you know what will happen (the plot is very easy to decode), you will want to read just in order to know how things are accomplished. Here lies the greatness of the writer: in telling you a great story and making you comprehend how everything, in the plot, was very well orchestrated.

    ~ 4.5 stars ~

The Tale of the Body Thief had me laughing and feeling sypathetic towards the normal human condition, all the while so damn curious... and I enjoyed every minute of this crude and awkward book.

Loved this book. A lot of fun to read plus this is the first time I caught onto Vampires doing this. Also missing someone Whom I love with a ALL my heart to share reading this book together. Missing You!❤

In Lestat's progress of exploring the human condition through excess and sensuality he is given the rare opportunity to experience again his human form. A captivating continuation and essential reading leading to the encounter with Memnoch the Devil. Superb.

James is a kleptomaniac who has stolen or schemed for literally everything he owns, from his house to his body. However, he also has major psychic problems, and his life is a series of cycles—he gets rich by theft, then often ends up in prison.

It cuts out the majority of Lestat being sad and weepy and pining

Cuando ya te has aburrido de la visa inmortal y deseas volver a ser humano, sentir la tibieza de los rayos del sol sobre tu piel, el sabor de un buen vino, el placer del sexo... Que gran relato...

  • Josh Knappenberger

Anne Rice really found her narrative stride on this one. Compelling from start to finish,
