The Fix (Rick Fuller #1) Reviews

My first book by this author.
In the winter of 1996, on the orders of HM Government, the SAS stole the contents of a safe belonging to the Provisional IRA.
Rick Fuller headed that team. Days later Fuller’s wife was brutally murdered at his home.
Convinced he was betrayed from within, Fuller begins a relentless search for her murderers and the men who gave the order.
Ten years on Fuller is a Manchester Gangland Enforcer, a lone and bitter figure.
Fuller recruits an old colleague to help him recover a consignment of cocaine from Amsterdam.
In the search, doors open on the past and Fuller can finally take his revenge on the men who betrayed him.
Great characters, especially, Des and Lauren, Rick of course. A good story, reasonably paced, good reference to the weapons, the planning, the training.
Bad points, this took away a star, as to be so overboard with the fashion. Too many references to all the designer clothes, handbags, shoes labels, it took away from the gripping suspenseful moment, when he stops to tell you what his enemy is wearing "A Paul Smith Shirt " etc.
This just was not needed. The story was strong, and a long book to start the story of these three great characters and Robert Fuller history.
I will read more by this author, as great plots, but just not sure if I need to know what every character is wearing, his shoes, his shirt, the car he drives.
I ask you, you are after the villains, so do you go and buy all brand new designer clothes for the three of you, before assaulting the baddies? -
4.5
Got the sickness reviews maybe limited 🤒🥴 -
I'm a massive fan of the characters in this. They develop in a way that makes them more and more intriguing and appealing as the story goes on.
Plenty of action and fantastic detail to make you feel like you're on the street with these guys. -
A somewhat brutal book, both for a character point of view and a plot perspective. I liked it. It will be interesting to see where the series goes from here.

From the beginnings of a mission in 1996, to the actual story in 2006, there has been a very different life for Rick Fuller. Once a head of a team, now a gang land enforcer with a different lifestyle and different risks. As a dangerous task in Holland goes ahead, that mission has massive consequences with him and some of his partners, including a former army a colleague, Des. This story has plenty of action and high tense moments. This isn’t a bad book at all, a very solid and worthwhile read.

The Fix (Rick Fuller #1) gritty and very intense descriptions of brutal and violent acts, nerve racking and really edge of the seat stuff. introducing Rick his best mate Des these 2 besties are grizzled and highly experienced war veterans of numerous battlefields and Lauren the new comer a former battered wife and trauma nurse who has reinvented herself into a Lara Croft ninja. Tracking down a lost drug shipment which goes all pear shaped very quickly a complete and utter mess really. But in the end they battle through and get closer to Rick Fullers demons and closer to revenge the murder of his wife. I found this story gripping and really enjoyed the characters even the baddies I actually hated them so this story will get your emotions going definately, was a chuckle at the brand dropping throughout but hey I liked it as I've got no brand sense anyway. I liked it, was action packed and enjoyed the romp around criminal activity even though some of it was street stuff.

For a first novel I thought it was very entertaining.
Sometimes I need a nice 'easy' read and this suited my current requirement. I thought the story was fast paced, with some surprising plot developments.
Personally, I liked the in - depth fashion and weapons references, nice bit of escapism. Although I live in London, I am a regular visitor to Manchester and enjoyed the primary location settings.
I have ordered the next book in the series - I hope I am as pleased with the experience as I was with this book. -
I genuinely can't understand the high star ratings this book is garnering here and on Amazon. I find the writing poor, the characterisations annoying, the level of unnecessary detail on guns and cars (because that's what you do to show the research you did) annoying, and the action lacking in tension. Gave up 10% of the way into the book, something I rarely do.
-
Like some other reviewers, I don't understand the high ratings given to this book. There is too much details about cars guns and especially clothes. It's basically a list of designer labels linked together by some sort of plot

Made a nice change from my usual spy thrillers. Could do with editing, especially nearer the end as the mistakes come more often, though I had to laugh at the hippy 'petunia' smell which obviously should read patchouli ;-)
I enjoyed the characters and dialogue, and the different points of view narrative was an interesting way of setting the story out instead of chapters. I have already bought his next book, hoping it will be equally entertaining but hoping for fewer errors. I would be willing to proof read his next book for him. -
A bad Fix
This was the second Robert White book read by me following on from reading "Dirty" and frankly this was simply not in the same class and I felt really disappointed.
For me the story was too far fetched and annoying to be enjoyed. Rick Fuller constantly going on about fashion and style and finding time for a nail manicure and polish while being chased by a gang of murderers and then there is Lauren who went from being a nurse to fully trained killer in no time. I don't think I will be reading any more books in this series. -
Hmmm. Surprise, surprise, surprise. A fresh anti-hero on the scene. At least for me. Never heard of the character/author but this was pretty good, despite some ridiculous escapes and beatings. Really liked the supporting characters, although the nurse was a bit too much...Des was great. The bad guys were bad and got what they had coming to them. Which is always nice.
The best thing was the lead character. Very flawed. Very quirky. Very deadly. Kind of like the Batman.
It was not a quick read, but I will check out the next in this series. -
A very good read
I thought that given 5 stars as the story kept on changing from one section of the action and then a little further on were given a more detailed expectations then taken back to the first section of the story, it kept on changing with twists and double crossing agents.
It was my first introduction to Robert white books I shall get another one or two to see how his contribution investigation background and research in his future books. -
The Fix
Great book, started off slowly like all good storylines. Rick is a great hero, deeply flawed as all human beings can be. His comrades are all great personalities in their own right, Ricks enemies are downright evil villainous horrible people who would sell their own mother for a good profit, it all makes for an intense reading experience. The violence is non stop and only adds to the intensity of the story. Fab -
At the start I thought this was a British "piss-take" of those awful tropey US thrillers. Our protagonist is ex SAS (but not ex navy seal) he obsesses about cars (not guns) has a magnificently gorgeous girl friend and kills people for a living. Well, apparently this exhaustingly violent piece is straight up thriller. I really like Nicholas Camm as narrator, but I won't be listening to any more in the series. My credence wouldn't hold out.
-
This book although a little entertaining annoyed me so much. The main character has absolutely no redeeming features despite his tragic history. There were too many ridiculous events for it to be taken remotely serious, I won't list them as it would take too long and I don't want to ruin it for other people. The side characters relationship was far more interesting and kept me reading to the end. I certainly won't be bothering with any further books in the series.

This is my first read by this author. I love SAS books and have read many with many more I want to get to. This one is written by an ex Police Man. I thought the writing was strong and it was fast paced. I liked the interactions between Rick, Des, and Lauren. I enjoyed my time with it picking it up at every opportunity Would recommend.
