Fire Cursed (Fire Cursed Trilogy Book 1) Reviews
-
Meet Faith Kennedy. She's just lost her mother to cancer at the age of 16. As her mother slipped away she learned who her father is...Lucifer. Not a nickname for the man, but his real name. Lucifer...the devil. After her mother passes she believes she has no family, but before she can be hauled away to a home she is rescued by her uncle. An uncle she never knew anything about. But his timing is perfect. Now Faith will begin learning about who her father was, the devastation that he caused so many, and find something unexpected. But what's more...she'll find herself in imminent danger that only will stalk her out of extreme jealousy.
Fire Cursed by J.E. Taylor is an engaging story that tells Faith's story. She's lived a sheltered life and now all of that is changing at a rapid pace as she finds herself in the world without her mother. She's simply hated or resented for being Lucifer's daughter. She had no idea and now she has this placed on her. You can almost feel for her as in some instances she feels some responsibility for the things that he has done. It's not her fault, but yet and still some look at her like she's the scum of the earth. Faith isn't expecting to discover she has a family, but she's also not expecting to find her soulmate. But things only get complicated with a shifter named Grace. There is so much going on with this story and it's really hard to put down. I like that Faith has a couple of happy moments before things really hit the fan, but those moments are quick to end.
There isn't much that I don't like about this book. The pace is good and the characters are engaging. While this is a YA paranormal romance, I feel that certain scenes really do become a bit too steamy for a YA book. Also, I think that a scene is missing and it's a crucial one! I reread certain parts a few times because I kept thinking that I must have missed something, but it's just not there! We get Faith and Alex in a dangerous situation, and something huge is supposed to have happened, but then it just skips to Faith breaking free and them escaping. I'm like okay, cool so nothing bad happens. But then the author says that Alex is different now and everyone is mad and I was like..." wait! what happened?!" And I go back and reread only to not find what happened.
This is a really good book and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I'm hoping for more character development. I'm really hopeful that Alex is able to get himself under control concerning his hormones or that Faith at least heeds her mother's warning to her and doesn't just push it off because he is able to help her control ONE aspect of herself. For those who don't like cliffhangers...sorry not sorry but there's one and I'm eager to learn what happens next! I'm rating this book 4 out of 5 stars.

At the age of 16, Faith Kennedy lost her mother to cancer. Unfortunately, her mother selected this moment to confess the identity of her real father – Lucifer. Not just a namesake, but the actual fallen archangel! What kind of ramifications would this have in her life? A small service was held, then the state child services woman grabbed her arm and took her to the car. She would be dropped off at the Home for Wayward Girls. As her nerves got worse, her fingertips sparked and her body heat increased. A couple waited inside and stared at Faith, while the child services woman, Sue, gripped her arm tighter and tensed up, telling the couple they were closed for the evening. The man told her he was related to Faith; Sue insisted the mother had indicated no next of kin, and she tried to drag Faith through the interior door.
When the man told Sue he was not related to Faith’s mother, the fear intensified! Was this Lucifer himself? But he looked at her and, as if reading her mind, said he was not her father, he was her uncle. The woman took Faith’s arm, introduced herself as Bridget Ryan and her husband Tom, and she led her outside. Bridget looked back at the building in fear and Tom joined them, saying they had to hurry because the creature inside was not a social worker – it was a soul eater – and it was not alone!
Learning there are other supernaturals out there that want to kill her or use her powers is a frightening situation for Faith. She is brought into contact with beings she never experienced before, angels, demons, monsters. Now she may be called on to save the world. Is she ready for the fight of her life against a foe she never wanted to face?
I haven’t read the other books related to this one, but I really enjoyed the fast pace and tension that grabbed the reader right at the beginning and throughout the exciting events. When the Ryans were trying to hustle Faith out of danger, I was all set to get up and run with them! The story line was great, and the characters were introduced in such a way that the reader wasn’t totally sure who the good guys or the bad guys were, holding the reader’s full attention! Grab your copy and be ready for a wild adventure! -
Just....WOW!!!! I think it's a bad day when your only parent that homeschooled you and raised you completely off the grid passes away from cancer to leave you all alone in this crazy world. What made it that much MORE insane is using her final breathe, Faith was finally told the name of her father. LUCIFER! Not just a coincidental name, but "THE" actual Lucifer. WTH?!?! She always knew she was unique as her hands could conjure fire depending on her emotions. I guess that answered one major question. Still numb from all that happened around her the ice queen social worker hardly grabbed her arm to take her onto her next stage of life at a Wayward Girls Home. Her STARTS the life of crazy that would become Faiths life. Finally she will learn of the supernatural realm and her possible time within it. Buckle up because it's worth a ticket 😊!!!! I can't wait to see what happens next with this strong, brave young lady!

4.5 of 5 Stars
J.E. Taylor FIRE CURSED (Fire Cursed Trilogy #1) is igniting. In this story, teenager Faith Kennedy’s mother dies. On her mother’s deathbed, Faith discovers that her father is Lucifer. She is taken in by relatives Tom and Bridget Ryan where she learns about the supernatural world she had no idea existed. This paranormal fantasy is suitable for young adults.
I enjoyed Faith’s character. She discovers a lot about herself in a short amount of time. She is uprooted meeting unknown family and an entirely different group of people. She needs to develop her powers to survive. Plus, she meets her soul mate. Talk about a lot of stress. The plot was creative and entertaining. The story was skillfully written and hard to put down. FIRE CURSED had a thrilling ending that left me craving book two, HOMECOMING. I recommend this book to people who enjoy paranormal fantasies. First let me state that I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review. This is my first time reading this author, and I hope it won't be my last.
Holy shiznet!!! This was a stupendous read. I cried so hard it hurt. I laughed a bit too. Poor Faith finding out on her mother's deathbed that she's Lucifer's daughter really sucked. Finding that she's not only "freak" should make her happy you'd think. But no, she also finds out there are other supernaturals in the world, and that freaks her out. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up. -
Fire Cursed by J.E. Taylor is an awesome story that I have loved reading. This is book number one in this awesome start to a brand new series that I am loving so far. I can not wait to read the next book in this awesome series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about Angelic world in thier stories.

1 star for creativity and the boldness to kill off main characters
But honestly, don't bother. I don't know how this book has such a high rating, I clearly didn't read the same material as other reviewers.
The author's writing "style", and I use that term loosely, has nowhere to go but up (if you catch my drift) The dialogue was awkward and forced. The rest of the words read like a diary;
I rolled off the couch, stiff from sleeping at an odd angle. I headed for my bathroom and the toothbrush first... I used a washcloth to clean up and went to the bureau where my new clothing had been stashed. I chose my jeans and the green shirt... There was a pair of green underwear that matched the shirt as well as white socks and a bra pg 151
On top of that, there were contradictions in narrative (the uncles are fraternal twins, but have different fathers? first the woman is alone with the beast inside the salt ring, then the son steps in, but then he joins her again a paragraph later?), and insta-soul mate that was beyond obnoxious.
I really wanted to DNF at around 40% but my OCD needed closure. Unfortunately, the finish line didn't even provide that. -
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and any opinions expressed herein are my own.
When I received this book, I thought it was the first book in the Fire Cursed Trilogy. It really isn't. There are a number of other books which provide a background for this series with overlapping characters. I often felt that I was left out of multiple events/backgrounds for characters referenced during the story and kept thinking there was more to this story. Additionally, this is not a standalone book - for the reasons mentioned previously and it ends on a cliffhanger.
I really liked the premise of this book - Faith's father is actually the devil. She is also now discovering all sorts of magical powers and a world full of demons. This is really well-written and action-packed. I did get a bit tired of the repeated teenage sexual angst between Alex and Faith. -
I recommend reading the other related series before diving into this one. I did no such thing. The past is mentioned a lot especially about the older characters. For instance, Tom killing his best friend Damien. Imagine my surprise when I looked up the author and I found a series with Damien as the hero. Hence I refuse to go back and read the other series knowing that will happen.
Lots of deaths in this series. But overall, I enjoyed it. -
There are a lot of ways this novel could improve and I’ll get into those below. There are some positives, which I’ll list here:
🔥 Intriguing.
🔥 Mysterious.
🔥 Good vs. evil
🔥 Great characters, overall.
🔥 Fast-paced.
🔥 Rags-to-riches vibe.
I enjoyed it, conceptually, and as you can see by the list above, the author has some good ideas. Unfortunately, this reads more like an outline than an actual complete novel. The continuity issues were pretty frustrating. The author could use, a stronger content editor and a developmental editor.
Based on this read, I’d be open to reading more from this author, only if they were to use a more professional team. Clearly the author has some intriguing ideas, but lacks the skill to plot, develop characters, and write above a second-grade level.
Fun premise—with some skill development and a professional team, this could’ve been a great read. As it stands, I’ll not read on in the series or seek out more from this author.
2 stars.

Audio:
The narrator was great! Would listen to more from her. -
Finding out you’re Lucifer’s daughter sounds a bit cool. Finding out that this means every single supernatural baddy out there either wants to control you or kill you? Not so much. That’s the problem faced by Faith Kennedy in J.E. Taylor’s Fire Cursed (Fire Cursed Trilogy, Book 1). Pretty tough (and scary) for her. Pretty much definitely fun for we readers, especially when presented in a book that is well written. Really my only problem with this book is that it’s the first of three, and the overall story arc looks to be a doozy (that’s high praise in case you were wondering). Trouble is that I hate waiting. Oh well. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

A great beginning to Taylor's new Fire Cursed trilogy. A well written, narrated paranormal coming of age. Taylor does a wonderful job of world building and character introduction and development. Our main character Faith is just but 16 and is having to face not only the fact that she's lucifer's daughter but the loss of her mother and a new home with strangers and the existence of paranormal. Wonderful love interest and plenty of action to be found. Narration was perfectly done and overall I'm very eager for what's next in this trilogy. How ever will Faith be able to face her new family after what she had to do and how will she defeat her father?!?
This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.

Excellent story, full of emotion and loss, light eroticism and some gory scenes. When you have Lucifers daughter various arch angels and related supernatural beings you are sure of an interesting ride. Well written with strong well described characters in a story that hooks you early and keeps you engrossed right to the save the world climax. The book has an open ending with a nice set up for the next instalment. I read this book in one sitting could not put it down. I received a complimentary copy from Storyorigin and am leaving a voluntary honest review.

I liked this audiobook
Narration was on point.
Not quite YA, I’d say NA category.
Trigger warnings needed I guess due to language and death.
3.5 star listen, it’s quite short but also action packed. I’d like to continue the series as this book does end in a cliffhanger. -
I enjoyed this story. It was a quick read and had lots of surprises. I'm not a fan of "devil/Lucifer" stories, but this one was a little different and has lots to recommend it.
