    This stunning book by famous bead artist Jamie Cloud Eakin is a great source of inspiration and learning for those eager to understand how to learn to embroider with bezels or how to go further with their art. When you read it, you will not be able to wait to bead, make and wear the gorgeous designs offered by the author! Her color selections, the stones and focals, the accompanying beads and other choices are swoonworthy!
    She begins by explaining what the intent of this book is in Chapter 1, Bead Embroidery-the process. As she says, "...the wonderful news is you can create fantastic designs, using a wide variety of components besides beads, and the process is easy to do!"
    She then explains the seven steps of the process. They are very simple and easy to understand. Clear, lovely photos are included.
    This introductory chapter is followed by Chapter 2 Bezel Techniques. There are eighteen beautiful bezel techniques. They range from the Plain/Standard bezel, and the technique for embroidering it, all the way through to the Stacks Bezel, the Outside Window Bezel, the Diamond Bezel, and more. The photos are perfectly beautiful. The assortment of focals will inspire you to go on a search for your own treasures to work with.
    Following this chapter is Chapter 3 The Project. The reader will now learn how to utilize all of the techniques taught in Chapter 3. As the author says, "This is not your typical beading book project! All of those designs were created with these basic instructions. The choices are yours, including the focal, the color selection, and the techniques to use." She goes on to explain how to design your project. Your art piece will be an original, made by you, with her beautiful techniques and instructions illuminating your creativity.
    The author doesn't leave you in the lurch in this chapter. She offers you some easy projects which will assist your understanding of the principles of how to design and create. Starting with a beautiful dusty mauve Fancy Jasper cabochon in a Plain/Standard Bezel, she leads the way through a number of gorgeous projects, such as one using a Flower Bezel,and a strikingly lovely Bead Encased Bezel with full embellishment. This one has a full size template for the reader to use.
    Chapter 4 is a collection of Supplies needed. This is a very complete collection. At the very beginning, she addresses the bead embroidery use on garments. This is helpful for those readers who love creating embroidery designs on fabrics. There are eighteen supplies listed and explained by the author. If elaboration is needed, she gives the reader everything he or she could possibly want.
    Chapter 5 is a list of Basic Stitches and Techniques. Here you will find helpful, clear tech pictures and (as always) nice photos of all that you have been studying. You can refer to this for such things as preparing and marking backings, adding stabilizers, and adding a stop bead. Several knots are included as well as a good explanation of how to weave into your beadwork or backing.
    There is an Index right at the end, with a section where the reader can add notes.
    Author Jamie Cloud Eakin is a wonderful, encouraging teacher who also creates brilliant designs which the reader will love. She leaves nothing out of Bead Embroidery Techniques Volume 1 Bezels. It is an exciting book for beaders who love magic of bead embroidery. What a super great book for your home library!
