Woodlands Reviews

  • Alice

    When you see a book without review you feel the urge that you just have to write one for it. SO here we go.

    This small and cute book contains the artworks of Ulla Thynell. It is very cleverly designed and I like the print quality of it. There is just something that gets lost through a screen, something different in the experience when you view a print of an artwork. The book also includes poems, and I think the first one that you see quoted below explains very well a lot of the feelings you get by her art;

    "Woodlands

    Tales from the verge of
    warmth and shade
    or wakefulness and sleep.

    Tributes to wandering,
    to heavenly bodies
    and trees with souls.

    How wild these forests are
    how familiar, how strange."

    Anyone that likes her illustrations would love this book. Through the pages you really travels to her world of the woodlands. It would suit both the young and the grown, and would be a lovely gift to anyone who loves art.

    I just reread this book after a long time, and something about it really touched me and made me cry. I had goose bumps while reading. Really beautiful and powerful. It’s both disconcerting and comforting, and echoes the core of us.
