"We do not have to become each other's unique experiences and insights in order to share what we have learned through our particular battles for survival as Black women..."
this was such a powerful essay, and one that is absolutely critical for anyone interested in abolitionary and revolutionary action. audre lorde's ability to create such impact in such few words is incredible - would highly recommend. -

Heterosexism: a belief in the inherent superiority of one form of loving over all others and thereby the night to dominance. While Homophobia is: a terror surrounding feelings of love for members of the same sex and thereby a hatred of those feelings in others."
"when 50% of children born to black women are born out of wedlock, and 30% of all black families are headed by women without husbands, we need to broaden and redefine what we mean by family."
"(homophobia) .. it is a waste of women energy, and it puts a terrible weapon into the hands of your enemies to be used against you to silence you, to keep you decile and in line. it also serves to keep us isolated and apart."
" we cannot afford to waste each other's energies in our common battles."
"stereotypes are yours to solve, not mine, and they are a terrible and wasteful banner to our working together." -
“But what is normal in this deranged society by which we are all trapped?”
