Her mother cannot reconcile her daughter’s choice with her own memories of the Vietnam era. Arriving at bootcamp, Carly realizes that she will finally get the challenge she has always wanted--to prove to herself that she need be afraid no more. The end of the 1980’s brings another worldwide event that swallows Carly. As the battle lines form, Carly will face death and more--the revelations of the past. And in the end all four generations will confess their secrets and sins. Will they find forgiveness? Reconciliation? Or will their family shatter? “I love the depth of emotion with it. You can't help but feel the roller coaster of feelings in this book as the story unfolds and as it concludes.”

Powerful story! I can't get over the intense emotions in this book. It's the perfect conclusion to the series of books about the Carlyle Women. The series has had some strong woman in each book, but this one includes them all, and comes to modern days with Carly. She becomes a soldier in the Iraq War. It's an amazing story that captured my attention immediately with some shocking events along the way. I felt the depth of the family connection in this book, as the generations grow older, and the youngest comes into a conflict that is unique to this generation. Never before have the women been so close to the action in a war. And this one is very intense in the action. I could feel every bit of her physical strength and growth as she went through boot camp, and her emotions and fear as she went on missions in the desert. And first love is so sweet in this story. I love the depth of emotion with it. You can't help but feel the roller coaster of feelings in this book as the story unfolds and as it concludes. I thank the author for the gift of the book, and I highly recommend "What Love Is".

What Love Is by Lyn Cote
The Carlyle Women Series Book Four
Carly Sinclair Gallagher wants to live her own life. Not the life her mother chooses for her. So after finishing four years of high school in only three years...only seventeen...she enlists in the army.

This book took me through so many emotions. My goodness it's well-written. And not all roses and candy. Going through boot camp with Carly was tough. Dealing with her mother, Leigh, was frustrating. And yet, Lyn Cote took the most unlovable characters and brought them around.

I like the way you saw the different perspectives from many of the characters. And the way it took some hard knocks for some of them to turn their eyes to Jesus. Many times in the book, there was nowhere else for them to go but to turn their hearts to God in prayer.

This is the 4th book in the series. I absolutely loved this series! Each story in this series has had a very strong, independent woman. Caryle is the daughter of Leigh (3rd Book). Caryle does not like that her mother tries to force her to attend college. She has made up her mind to enlist in the Army at the age of 17. Caryle goes to boot camp and then off to Afghanistan. I found myself thinking about the times written about in the news. I felt like I was right there with her. I cried a little, laughed a little and sighed a little, which is something I have come to expect from Lyn Cote's books. Each book can be read separately, but you will get more out of the stories if you read them all and in order.

Oh how I loved this series! Of the four books this was my favorite. The ending was satisfying, but I hated to read the last word.

    Once again

Once again Lyn Cote did an excellent job of telling the story and bringing history to life. I loved this book and wanted more. Be sure to read all four books.
