No one can throw me off my game. I'm a scientist -- serious, cool, and...yeah, a little bitchy. Then irresistible bad boy Archer West arrives unexpectedly in Mirror Lake and has the audacity to suggest we have a hot, wild fling while he's in town.
Hot and wild are no longer my thing. And even though everything about the muscular, rebellious biker gets me going, I'm focused on my career and tornado research project. Not to mention, Archer is the estranged brother of my best friend.
I can't risk an affair with a rebel, no matter how much he charms me with his devilish grin and his love for chocolate milk.
But Archer won't give up. He wants me to lose control. He says he'll make me surrender.
Let him try.

5 no-holds-barred stars. Full review posted July 21, 2014
Womanizer andpersonifiedreformed bad boy Archer West rides into Mirror Lake to visit his brother Dean. Once arrived, he doesn't know yet that he's in for the biggest turnaround of his life because he also meets the very smart and ambitious Kelsey March who's a professor in the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences department at King's University. Kelsey is a woman who can hold her own and gives as good as she gets. She acts somewhat hostilely toward Archer but he has no scruples to strike back straightaway.
"I'm disappointed in you," I continued, tracking my gaze down to the V of her neck. "I thought you were the kind of woman who'd form your own opinions about things. But if we're doing this based on second impressions, and if I'm the fuck-up who screws with people, then you must be the controlling bitch who hasn't gotten laid in years."
It doesn't get any bolder but Archer's words have the desired effect. Kelsey can't get him out of her mind and the story takes its course.
Yeah, that's right…holy. Mother. Of. God. I don't know whether I'm coming or going and I blame Nina. It's confession time. If there are readers out there who don't know yet that I'm completely biased when it comes to Nina and her writing skills, then it's time to alleviate these doubts. I really am biased and I'm not ashamed at all because, as her beta reader, I'm also honest and tell her whatever is bugging me. No holds barred, right Nina?
Readers who are familiar with the Spiral of Bliss series know that Kelsey came off as a pretty tough and feisty chick in the previous books. While she's still the strict professor and can hold her own in every condition of life, we also see another side of Kelsey March. A vulnerable side. We see a woman who blushes easily and reveals a couple of insecurities. We also see a woman who holds her thoughts and wishes close to the vest. And the gorgeous and sexy-as-sin Archer West, who seems to combine heaven and hell, pushes all the right buttons. For Kelsey it's infuriating, frightening, and exhilarating all at the same time. But it also gives Archer food for thought and he starts to scrutinize his future. Kelsey, however, thrives on Archer's devotion to create a storm of sexual fulfillment. With him, she attains the summit of her erotic desires and, after having been pushed insistently, hands over the reins to a man with a somewhat shady past, a daredevil who, surprisingly, also reveals a sweet and very endearing side of his personality. He really does care about Kelsey. Is she in for more than she bargained for?
I. Loved. Archer. He's to die for, a fabulous dirty talker and so, so much more than meets the eye. Break the Sky provided so many memorable and emotional scenes. One specific scene, however, clearly stood out for me but, since it's a spoiler, I can't talk about it. Suffice it to say that the freedom-loving and bold as f@ck Archer West disclosed a few unexpected insights and he totally made this story for me. Opposites attract but on that journey of getting to know each other, of making that step from perfunctoriness to thoughtfulness, we sometimes realize that we are the same.
With Break the Sky Nina created a storm of sensations, a physical rush of elation, a hard and hot rush of danger as well as some sweet, funny and tender moments. The frenzied tension, want and need, the breathlessness of an orgasm rushing through these two, and anything in between…it is all there. And, of course, it was a pleasure to meet Dean and Liv again. They are madly in love and living a beautiful life but when Archer drops by so unexpectedly, Dean must grab the bull by the horns. We see a Dean who is his usual overprotective self. Still, there's no avoiding the fact that both Dean and Archer must bury the hatchet and find a way to getting closer again. They owe each other an explanation, a heart-to-heart talk. Thus you can look forward to some intense and beautiful scenes.
I enjoyed the first half but the second half was truly excellent and Nina ramped up the storm of feelings another notch. Break the Sky was hot. No, scratch that. It was a scorcher. Yet at the same time the unbelievably hot sex formed a symbiosis with a great story and wonderful characterizations. Also, the second half provided some very thoughtful and profound scenes that will tug at your heartstrings. And, let's face it, Nina is the Queen of Dirty Talk. Phone sex and texting, anyone? It was really hilarious, hot and sexy as all get out. While we're on it, the face-to-face dirty talk was a total turn-on as well. Folks, Nina is a master at telling erotic romance stories. Period.
What more could a heart desire?
I. Loved. It.
I put myself in Archer's place and wrote a love letter to his storm girl.
No Holds Barred
I came from a wild place
Where snakes are baking in the sun
I swallowed dust, counted the sharp cacti
Watched the Joshua trees
Got thirsty from all the dryness
At night cool air touched my skin
I've done things in my life
I'm not proud of
Did drugs, went through fights
Spent time in prison
Couldn't hold a job for long
Slept around with random women
Sex without commitment?
Fuck, count me in
I rode into Mirror Lake on my dirt bike
My stomach knotted for a reason
Then you accidentally hit me in the head with the door
My stomach did somersaults for another reason
I am blunt, bold, straightforward
I am your hottie, your protector
I am not ashamed for coming on too strong
Because, fuck, you intrigued the hell outta me
Now I'm on the straight and narrow
But if you want me to
I'll be your own personal bad boy
A refined bad boy, one who dedicates
His life to kindle any storm for you
In bed, on the dance floor, in a dark alley
I know you want it because you can take it
I am YOUR storm, lightning strikes us
The air crackles, our skin electrified
I put my mouth on you, suck you, bite you
Our tongues tangled in a sensual dance
Growing desperate
Raw and earthy...rough sex
Alternates with tender moments
I want you to surrender, give over
Fear not, let go, I've got you
A physical rush of elation
Will you quench my thirst?
I say it again, I want inside you
First your body will all be mine
Then I'm going to unravel your heart
No holds barred, I ask again
Will you quench my thirst for love?
I will calm the storm inside of you
A storm so fierce and exhilarating
So we can break the sky together
You are my storm girl after all
Hail, rain, and wind
A convergence of fear and excitement
Come what may
Let's chase the storm together
Across our bodies and landscapes
Because you know
I love you, my koshechka
What are you waiting for? Go and buy the book and meet bad boy Archer West who took Kelsey's heart by storm.

Nina Lane is one of my top favorite authors. Her Spiral of Bliss series is outstanding so needless to say, I was beyond excited to get my hands on this book. I really don't know what happened but for some reason I couldn't get into this one. Though the prologue held me captivated, I was bored out of my mind until I finally decided that halfway is enough. Kelsey got on my nerves...a lot. Stubborn woman. I guess this just goes to show that erotica is not my thing. I need more than hot, sexy times and I'm sorry to say that even bad boy Archer and Nina's flawless writing isn't enough. -
This book was perfection!!!Like all Nina's books!!!I am a big fan of Nina's Lane!I was mesmerised by her writting in Spiral of Bliss series, and I wanted to read whatever she would write!!When I saw that she has a new book with Dean's friend Kelsey I was so happy!!!I devoured this book so much!Nina's writing is magnificent!!
Kelsey is Dean's best friend. She is a professor too.She wants to be respectable from her students and the other professors. She cares a lot about her reputation and she wants to have control in her life.
But what will happen when she met Archer,Dean's brother????Can she resist him???
I don't think that there is someone who can resist Archer West!!!!OMG he is so hot!!!Archer is a bad badboy!!He is sexy as helland so bossy in bed and with Kelsey ;))) I liked him a lot!!!I liked how their relationship developed between Kelsey and Archer.Their relationship was like fireworks!!They were opposites in character but they fitted like the pieces of puzzle!
What can I say about the hot scenes????OMG so scorching hot!!!Really I liked how bossy Archer was in bed :)) and Kelsey liked it too!!!
Kelsey was an interesting character too!!I wanted to know more about her!She was a tough girl!!
I loved this book so much!!!!God I can't choose if I liked more Archer or Dean!!!I liked both of them! They are different in so many ways!!!But I loved them both!!!I higly recommend it to all Nina's fan,to people who like bad boys ;) and to fans of Spiral of Bliss series!!
Get ready and meet the bad boy Archer!!!! :)))

5--Storm Girl--Stars!!!
Move over Dean West there's a new West brother in town and damn was he HOT!!!
“I want to sleep with you, Kelsey March,” he whispered. “After I kiss, bite, and lick you. After I fuck you deep. After I make you come so hard you scream my name. After I make you lose control."
I think it's safe to say we were all intrigued by Archer in the Spiral of Bliss series.
Archer breezes in to Mirror Lake. He has a chance encounter with a hot blonde with blue streaks in her hair at a local bar, where they almost spend the night together.
Hot blonde is none other than Kelsy March, BFF of Dean West.
Kelsey the professor, the good girl and Archer the drifter, the bad boy.
“We’re not so good together because we’re different, storm girl. We’re not night and day or sun and rain. We’re so damn good
together because we’re the same. And you’ll never belong to anyone else. Ever. Neither will I.”
Archer was everything Kelsey didn't think she wanted but everything she needed. Explosive. Chaotic. Passionate. Dominant.
"He wouldn’t be like a gentle rain on the parched ground that was my sex life. No. He would be an overwhelming, drenching storm with lightning bolts and thunder and the insane, crazy exhilaration of knowing you’re in the middle of something wild and uncontrollable."
It was only supposed to last a few weeks. It was only supposed to be fun. They weren't supposed to fall in love.
"I hadn’t just fallen in love with him. I’d fallen in need, in lust, in hope, in dream with him. I’d fallen crazily, head-spinningly, recklessly into him.
This book was HOT! Archer was dirty and dominant and I freaking LOVED him! There were times I thought Kelsey was in her head too much....thinking too much, questioning too much. I loved getting to see more of Dean and Liv!
And of course, I loved all of the storm chasing....
Who didn't love the movie Twister back in the day????
Fantastic spin-off to the Spiral of Bliss series! I highly recommend! -
YAY! YAY! YAY! I AM Doing another Beta Read for my dear Nina Lane!! I can't wait to dive into Kelsey's book! It will be coming out this summer folks! Get ready for some HEAT!
I finished reading, and normally I wouldn't rate a beta read; but this was beyond a five stars for me..The writing in this was awe inspiring at times! Nina Lane has out done herself, and I can't wait for readers to get their hot little hands on this!!! It is a MUST READ..and wait until you meet Kelsey's hero...He is too die for! Once I am able to share some quotes, and more about the storyline, I will most definitely update this review... -

3 "the sky didn't break" stars
It may have been the bad time for me to read it, I may have not been in the mood for it or it may have been the case of
or my expectations may have been to high. I simply didn't like it. I loved Spiral of Bliss series. Those books are still one of my favorites. I loved every character in those books so I was thrilled when I found out that Archer will get his story. Then we had all those wonderful teasers... and sadly they were the best lines in the book. Though the writing was good, I just felt that the story was flat. Don't even get me started on Kelsey, I am just wondering where did that badass professor from Spiral go? Because this Kelsey was completely different woman than the strong and confident one in Spiral. She completely ruined the book for me, she was tedious and annoying with her indecision and back and forth. Sometimes I had a feeling like being in the high schooler's head instead of university professor. Her whining started around 20% and didn't stop to almost the end. The book picked up my interest a bit about 75% but still everything was already said and done. Archer could real have been dark horse in this book, and it is a shame to waste his character by pairing him with such a weak heroine. I also didn't like all those references to storm, few would be nice and cute, but constant comparing feelings and emotions to storms, tornados, clouds, etc. was just too much for me.
But hey, there were some things I liked. I loved that the author gave us snippets of what is going on with Liv and Dean, I was glad to see that they are still happy. I loved Archer, he was hottie, no doubt about that. And sex was definitely scorching, sizzling hot, but it wasn't enough for me to love this one.
OK, so it's my turn to go and hide...

4 ½ stars – Contemporary/Erotic Romance
Nina Lane’s Spiral of Bliss series was one of my favorites of last year. So I was ecstatic about this spin-off standalone novel featuring Dean’s best friend, Kelsey, and brother, Archer. Break the Sky is an emotional, passionate erotic contemporary that I highly enjoyed, and it mostly satisfied my sky high expectations. I did have some quibbles though, mainly with the heroine and how much the story seemed to focus on her.
If I was rating this for the hero, it would get a big, gooey, decadent 5++ stars. I loved Archer! He’s such a complex, captivating, sexy romantic lead. I loved his enigmatic, bad boy persona, rough edges, boyish humor, sweet, caring, gentle side, vulnerability, and strength, and he is one seriously hot, yummy dirty talker and dominate lover! Whew! Yowza! But it seemed like he was always the one pursuing, challenging, giving, and accepting and also constantly taking all of Kelsey’s sh*t.
I really liked Kelsey in the previous Spiral of Bliss books, but she grated on my nerves in this. She spent way too much time in her head. Everything was always about her. I felt like Archer got somewhat shortchanged, and I wanted more and better for him, I guess. I just needed MORE ARCHER!!!!
Still, Break the Sky is one of the best erotic romances I’ve read so far this year with sensual, memorable, scorching hot love scenes and an unforgettable, totally swoon-worthy hero. 4 ½ stars!
Oh Holy Yowza! Cover Hotness Alert! Come to Momma! -
Break The Sky is a spinoff novella from the Spiral of Bliss series. While it does contain mild spoilers for the original three books in the series, it works perfectly well as a standalone novel although I can highly recommend the whole series if you haven’t read them before.
The Spiral of Bliss still ranks as one of my favourite erotic romance trilogies of all time – it really is elegant smut with fantastic character development and I damn near melted on the spot when I heard that Nina was writing a spinoff starring Professor Hottie’s bad boy brother and his long time friend, Kelsey. While we don’t really know a lot about Archer before embarking on Break The Sky, I’ve actually become very fond of Kelsey and was desperate for this lonely woman to find someone to hold her close.
Enter stage left – Archer West, bad boy younger brother of Dean. He’s sexy, dangerous and mouthwateringly hot. He spots Kelsey in a bar one evening after she has had a particularly bad day and the attraction between them is instant and incendiary and hard to resist. All Kelsey can see is his charming, wicked smile, the glint in his gorgeous dark eyes, the promise of a powerful body and sexual prowess behind that tough exterior. He’s everything that she could possibly want in a man and yet also all the things that she has studiously been avoiding for years. He’s outrageously flirtatious and yet really quite gentle but she manages to walk away thinking she will never see him again until she quite literally bumps into him again the next day in Dean’s office.
I so adored Archer West – he’s pretty much grown up in Dean’s shadow, never quite as bright or achieving as highly as his older brother and has developed a bit of a chip on his shoulder and quite a severe inferiority complex over the years. After a shocking childhood revelation at the hands of Dean, unsurprisingly Archer had spun right off the rails with a long history of asshole behaviour – he’s never really kept down a job, he’s slept around, done drugs, done time in prison for thieving. His past is really not so stellar but now he’s trying to get his life back on track and is attempting to turn things around, older and wiser and determined to make a better life for himself. He’s a curious mix of all out badass and yet gentle and protective man from his penchant for chocolate milk to full on, no holds barred dark alley up against the wall sex. This is a man of stark contrasts – deep and emotional. I was more than ready to surrender to Archer West.“You’re not allowed to tell me what to do. You don’t say where it happens or when it happens. You don’t even get to decide what happens. There’s only one thing you get to do.”
“What… what is that?” I could barely form the words past the heat filling my chest.
“Surrender.”
And total surrender is what he wants from Kelsey. He storms into her life like a veritable hurricane. He sees beneath the ice queen facade that she has perfected over the years right through to the molten passion beneath the surface. He wants to chip away at that armour of steel, to make her melt and spark to life her long suppressed urges. He wants to open her up and unlock all that repression passion and is burning to see her lose control.“Do you ever let go, storm girl?” he murmured in a voice so low I had to ease even closer, determined not to be afraid of whatever he was going to say.
“Ever lose control?” he asked, his gaze tracking over my face. “Ever surrender?”
Kelsey has also been through a rebellious streak in her youth but right now she’s very much the science Professor in her sharp suits and killer heels and she’s put all that rebellion and passion behind her and now radiates a tough girl, take no prisoners sexiness and she’s determined that she won’t succumb to Archer West’s preposterous advances but she’s fighting a losing battle. Archer is looking at her calm facade and knows that his Storm Girl is holding back – he knows that she needs storms and passion and he’s determined to unleash all that pent up lust and finally see her lose control and completely surrender to him.
Archer was a storm, no doubt, one who electrified and consumed me, but he was also every part of the storm. He was the calm right in the center of it. He was the blue sky behind the clouds. He was the sheltering place where I could crawl into safety.
I adored every second of this book and completely fell in love with both Archer and Kelsey and really wanted them to find that happiness that seems to have eluded them both for so long. This is one of my favourite set ups for a romance novel – tough badass alpha guy and the geeky female and I relished every word, every nuance as I lost myself in their story and devoured the book. I sighed with pleasure at their first thwarted encounter where they both smouldered with lust for one another, sparks and electricity firing at will and left them both wondering ‘what if’ as they went their separate ways.
Fate, of course, throws them back together and they agree to spend the time that Archer will spend in town together but nothing can prepare them for the depths of emotion that they’re going to experience. They really do heal one another – Archer is solid and strong and makes Kelsey feel safe in a difficult world and Kelsey brings Archer back to life, wakes up a side of him he never really knew was there. The unrelenting sexual chemistry is built to an intense peak as Nina Lane keeps us waiting but when they do finally succumb to that white-hot passion that they share, I swear my Kindle almost caught fire. Oh Boy – does Nina Lane know how to get her readers hot under the collar!I shut my eyes, feeling myself tipping forward into the abyss.
“Say it,” he whispered.
“I… I surrender.”
“Good girl.” His mouth crashed down on my mine again.
I surrendered.
It was fantastic to catch up with Dean and Liv and see them moving forward with their son, renovating their butterfly house. Dean and Archer have some serious history together that needs dealing with and Dean isn’t so sure that Archer can be good for Kelsey but Liv sees good in everyone and is determined that they will get their chance.
So, if you’re looking for some elegant smut with fantastic character development, a central couple that you can truly believe in then look no further. Break the Sky is mesmerizingly sensual, down right super-nova hot full of heart melting tenderness and fiery passion. It’s the ideal combination of romance and sex and is as close to perfection as you’re likely to see in an erotic romance novel

4 I Surrender Stars
I have to say, I was pretty excited about this spin-off standalone novel of the Spiral of Bliss series where we get Archer West and Kelsey March’s story. If you have read the Spiral of Bliss series then you know who these two are. If you haven’t well then you are going to love meeting the delectable Archer West. ❤
After meeting both Archer and Kelsey in the Spiral of Bliss series I was really intrigued by Archer. What little we got of him was enough for me to know that he was my kind of hero. Archer was definitely hot! He was pretty damn sexy and a definite bad boy. But what I really loved about him was that he had this sweet and innocent side too that had my heart doing funny things. I know what you’re thinking. How can he be a bad boy and have an innocent side to him. Well he did……it is just hard to explain.
Kelsey, well I think it will take you a little longer to come to like her in this story. In Spiral of Bliss I thought Kelsey was pretty cool. She struck me as someone fun, a little crazy and someone who knew what she wanted. In this book though, my feelings about her were all over the place. One minute I loved her, the next minute she was driving me nuts, then I was back to loving her again. I did love her sassiness and her and Archer made one hell of a sexy couple! The sexual chemistry between them was off the freaking charts!
One of my favorite parts of the book is when Archer and Kelsey meet. Their first meeting is in a bar when neither one knows who the other is. Archer being Dean’s brother and Kelsey being a long time friend of Dean’s. It was instant chemistry, instant desire and my god I was experiencing the lust that Kelsey was feeling towards Archer right along with her. :)
“He put his hand against my cheek, his fingers sliding into my hair. I parted my lips to taste the heat of him. Our tongues touched. A bolt of lust shot to my center. My lower body tightened. I pressed my thighs together. Oh god!”
After that meeting there really wasn’t any turning back for them. But both of them had stuff going on in their lives that needed to be dealt with and that really left no room for any kind of real relationship. So they settled on a short term, sex filled relationship while Archer was in town.
Now that would have worked out, but things that happen in Kelsey’s professional and personal life send her into a bit of a storm. And Archer really wasn’t prepared for all things Kelsey and what she was doing to him. What she was making him feel.
But Archer was becoming Kelsey’s rock. She was slowly surrendering herself to him and though deep down she wanted someone permanent in her life all this scared her. And it scared Archer too. He had insecurities that stemmed from his childhood and from his less than perfect adult life. But when both of them are pushed to the edge, what will happen.
This ended up being another winner from Nina Lane. But I will be honest. For a good part of the book my rating was sitting at 3.5 stars and most if not all of those stars were because of Archer. I. LOVED. HIM.
I loved the first 40%. Then from 40% to 80% there were parts I loved (all the scorching hot sex scenes and everything Archer) and then there were parts that bugged me. I guess you could say it was Kelsey that bugged me. Talk about getting stuck in your own head. I mean her life seemed to be on repeat all the time. But once I hit the 80% mark I felt the changes coming. Kelsey’s spark was back ~ THANK GOD! Archer and Drew have their moments and some closer too. All in all I was left a happy woman by the end of the book.
A final footnote. It was pretty neat catching up with Liv and Dean and their baby Nicholas too. And you know what? At the heart of this story was the Butterfly House. When I think about, it really was what brought all of them together. ❤ -
4.5 scorching stars!
Two words: Archer West.
Yup. I fell hard for this tattooed bad boy.
When we met Archer in Dean and Liv's book, he was portrayed a troubled loser with a major chip on his shoulder. But even then, we see a glimpse of his leading man potential when he was there for Liv during one of the most traumatic experience in her life.
In Break the Sky, we get to know even more about him. He made this book for me. I didn't expect to love him as much as I did. Even more than Dean. *gasp*
My favorite part of the book is Dean and Archer. Their relationship is in tatters. Dean doesn't trust him and Archer is tired of always being in his brother's shadow. And yet despite their tenuous relationship, I sense a very strong loyalty between them. Archer despite his resentment will stand by Dean, Liv and Nicholas no matter what.
Kelsey is another matter entirely. While I did like her especially in the end, I just didn't love her. She was okay. In fact, I think Liv was a lot more frustrating in her book than Kelsey was in hers but I actually connected more with Liv than Kelsey. Go figure.
Despite that, Kelsey and Archer together are formidable and scorching hot! Wow! I loved them together. Their banter, their easy camaraderie, their playfulness with each other. Loved it.
My only quibble is that there were times when I was reading this book that I felt like Kelsey and Archer were both in their early 20s instead of being in their mid-30s. And that threw me off a bit. I could understand with Archer because he seems to be naturally playful but with Kelsey, it's different. Her vibe is much, much younger here than in Dean and Liv's book.
Other than that, I really, really liked this book. Archer is such an endearing and sympathetic character it's hard not to fall in love him. And while Kelsey wasn't my favorite, she did grow at the end of the book. ♥ -
"..Except this was ARCHER WEST,
a man who had chrashed into my life
like a lightning bolt and set it afire.."
DAMN!!!!...those "WEST-BROTHERS" are just too delicious...
After finishing the "Spiral of Bliss"-series I couldn't get my hands fast enough on BREAK THE SKY.
This book is about KELSEY, Dean and Liv's best friend and Dean's brother ARCHER. The mysterious & hot, tattooed "FUCK-UP" and exactly MY KIND OF MAN *sigh*
Even if I didn't love it as much as DEAN & LIV's story, I still enjoyed it immensly. There were just some minor things that didn't work for me
Nevertheless, this book was a winner for me,
because...
..well mostly because of ARCHER WEST
..and all his DIRRRTY TALK.
I also loved ARCHER & KELSEY together. They just fit...even with them coming from two totally different worlds.
One of my highlights? Definitely reading more about my favorite couple of ALL TIME aaaand my favorite two WEST BROTHERS finally talking about their true feelings.
...SOOOO BEAUTIFUL!

5 Exhilarating Stars
Archer West is a drifter, brother of Professor Dean West and a seriously hot and sexy tattooed bad man. He finds himself in Mirror Lake and ends up meeting a sexy woman who makes him forget about his fucked up past.
When he discovers the woman is Kelsey, Dean's best friend, and an assistant professor in the Meteorology department, that doesn't deter him from pursuing her - after all he's good at having a good time and moving on and she seriously needs to let loose. Kelsey has spent all her adult life trying to be good, professional, and safe but Archer makes her feel anything but, her makes her feel alive. He makes her want to chase the storms again.
Problem is, he's only staying around for a few weeks, he has no place in Mirror Lake and the deal was they'd have fun while he was there.
This book made me feel, it made me feel everything. I loved the descriptive way Kelsey spoke, in relation to the weather and how she was feeling. It was beautiful and touching.
Also, this book was scorching hot and the sex scenes were intense to say the least."You don't make the rules storm girl," he repeated lowering his head to trail his lips against my neck. "You don't do anything but what I tell you to do."
"I knew you'd like it rough," he continued, and his voice was like a hot, drenching rainstorm pouring over me.
Overall, I thought it was amazing and one of my favourites of 2014. -
After a few days of thinking and reflecting, I have discovered my initial feelings for this book, after reading it a few days ago, haven't changed. This book was good but for me it wasn't great. It pains me deeply because I simply love Nina Lane and I LOVED her Spiral of Bliss series. When I realized that this book was about Archer (Dean's half brother) and Kelsey (Dean's BFF), I was excited to dive in.
Kelsey is a successful college professor. She is trying to gain funding in order to further her scientific exploration of storms. She is also trying to become a tenure professor at the college she works at.
Enter in Archer. Archer is Dean's "bad boy" brother. Kelsey meets him at a bar and has no idea who he is. They share one hot kiss and just when she thinks something bigger might be happening between the two, he takes off.
He doesn't go far. They bump into each other the very next day IN DEAN'S OFFICE! Archer has come to visit Dean and Liv and meet his new nephew. He is trying to make amends with his brother. Even though he barely knows Kelsey, he decides he wants her. He knows he will be good for her. She needs a little "let loose" in her life!
“You know exactly what I’m about. And I know you’d never expect more from a guy like me. But I also know you’re going to spontaneously combust if you don’t let go.”-Archer
Kelsey and Archer begin a heated relationship. Archer is the typical damaged bad boy. He is all alpha male! Kelsey is not at all how I remembered her in the Spiral of Bliss Series. She has overcome adversity in order to build a successful life for herself. She really isn't sure if Archer will be able to fit in to her world.
"I couldn’t figure out if I felt like a total slut or a virgin on prom night, ready to lose it with the high-school bad boy. Somehow, it seemed possible to feel like both."-Kelsey
As the relationship continues to progress, it becomes clear that things are coming to an end. Archer is supposed to leave and go back to Nevada. The big question is will Kelsey be able to convince him to stay?
"I was suddenly and intensely glad that I’d given over to him, even for a short time. It was a thunderstorm with him , brief but intense. One I knew I would never forget."-Kelsey
Overall, Break the Sky was a good read. What really worked for me is the beautiful writing and the characters are so damn interesting. I also loved seeing Dean and Liv so happy and in love. And of course Archer and Kelsey had a sexy connection!
What didn't work for me was the multiple time lapses. I felt like as soon as a critical part of the plot was beginning to develop the story line would skip ahead. Additionally, I was frustrated that Dean and Archer didn't experience more healing. It seemed detrimental to the plot to have such an extreme conflict between the two brothers and not allow for complete healing to transpire by the end of the book. Did they work things out? Yes. But I wanted more resolution to transpire between them. Although the sex was hot, I don't feel like the emotional connection between the two characters was completely developed. I know this review is a bit all over the place. (Which is understandable as that is how I felt about the book). Even though this wasn't my favorite, I will definitely check out Nina Lane again. -
4 "Made you look" Stars -
Nina Lane:
Just when I thought you couldn't make a hotter man, you bring me Archer Fucking West.
Loved it! -
I would never be able to protect myself from the storm. Because the storm was everything-love, desire, happiness, sorrow, pain. Life.
This was my first book by this author, so I didn’t have any expectations, but after reading this I’m happy to say this book really wow me. It sucked me in from the first page and kept my attention to the very last word. Loved every single chapter and loved every single word. This is the story of Archer and Kelsey..
Kelsey and Archer are different, but in many ways are the same…
Kelsey and Archer meet for the first time in a bar. They go their separate ways after sharing a kiss, but soon they meet again in Archer’s brother office. When Kelsey meets Archer she is immediately attracted by him, but she knows she must stay away.Aside from her simmering repression and insane sex appeal, she was different. Uptight, yeah, but also interesting.
Kelsey is a meteorology professor awaiting tenure at the University. She is smart, independent, hardworking and ambitious and she is a friend of Archer’s brother Dean.Too much. Everything about him was too much. He was too big, too beautiful, too dangerous, too goddamned cute.
Archer..
Archer, the black ship in the family had a rough past, drifting from job to job. He has come to visit his estranged brother, Dean and meet for the first time his nephew Nicholas. Archer is a bad boy, but he is sweet and gentle. He is commanding, bossy and a dirty talker. With Archer what you see is what you got.I want to sleep with you, Kelsey March. After I kiss, bite, and lick you. After I fuck you deep. After I make you come so hard you scream my name.
If at the beginning Kelsey is uptight, soon she can’t resist Archer’s charms. Archer knows he isn’t good for Kelsey, but despite that, they start a temporary sexual relationship while Archer is in town. Kelsey learns to surrender to Archer in every way. Giving up control is not the only thing that scares her, it is Archer, it is the way she feels about him. With him she can be herself because he is the only one who understands, knows her and gives her strength.Even though he was a force of nature I couldn’t control, I wanted to live right in the center of him.
Kelsey understands Archer too. She knows how is to be trapped by your surroundings and she admire Archer and envies his ability to live his life on his own terms. With Archer she starts to open up, she starts to live, but she thinks with him she has no future.
But nothing matters when you fall in love..
Break the Sky was more than a contemporary romantic romance. With a good story, great characters, real situations and believable dialogue, this books was awesome. It’s been such a long time since I read a good erotic romance and this books satisfied me in every way.
I enjoyed the storyline tremendously from the beginning. The characters are very well developed and very complex. I felt Kelsey and Archer connection and I loved their flirtatious banter and the chase between them. There were times when Kelsey got on my nerves, even if in some way I understand her point, but in the end I like her. I liked how she sees the real Archer, how she realize that Archer accepts her and loves her everything she is, how in the end she is ready to take a chance at happiness. I adored Archer! I loved his alpha male side and I loved his sweet side.
The writing is fluid, flawless, it’s perfect. No doubt, Mrs Lane is a very talented author!
I really, really loved this book and I can’t recommend it highly enough!
-
“I hadn’t just fallen in love with him. I’d fallen in need, in lust, in hope, in dream with him. I’d fallen crazily, head-spinningly, recklessly into him.”
Who you ask?...ARCHER WEST
Yes, Kelsey March...I feel you love. I too have fallen hard for this man...
He is a bad boy. He is a man off the straight and narrow path. He is abrasive. He is selfish. He is flipping fabulous!
Well if NO...get ready! LOL! I fell hard for Nina Lane after the Spiral of Bliss series. While I enjoyed Professor Dean let me just say, baby brother West wins the prize! Break the Sky is his time to shine and he does it with no other than Kelsey March...prof' Dean's colleague and spitfire friend extraordinaire.
While I will admit that I did not see the connection between Kelsey and Archer, I still enjoyed the story. I like when there is a big unknown. A throw caution to the wind theme. I especially love that two characters were so inherently different yet they were on an even playing field as they were able to see so much in each other that was limitless!
Kelsey saw beyond the stereotypical bad boy image. “I didn’t think Archer would ever fit in anywhere. He couldn’t. He was too bold, too fierce, too powerful. The world had to accommodate him, not the other way around.”
While baby Dean was fascinated beyond the norm. "You’re beautiful,” Archer murmured, his husky voice rolling over my skin. He reached up with his other hand to touch the blue streak in my hair. “You’re like a creature from some exotic land that no one has discovered yet.”
This was a fabulously steamy read that Nina Lane wrote, but more than that is was a Great story about taking chances, believing in yourself, and sometimes just letting go to find what truly makes you happy. -

You may not know this, but I'm from Oklahoma. Storms are glorious and frightening and exciting. They sweep across the plains and make the air crackle. One minute it's hot as Hades and then you have a blast of cool air from Colorado and you get an amazing spectacle. Storms. This author captured all the beauty and terror of a storm. All the excitement that grabs you in your gut. All the fright when you know its over top of you and you can't run from it. Perfection.
What I liked about this book:
1 -- Her use of the amazing tornado her telling of the rain and lightening storms and the wall clouds that surround them. They can come out of nowhere and rip a tractor trailer up and sling it like it's a child's toy. I've lived it and driven through the aftermath. It makes matchsticks out of homes and schools. They are nothing to laugh about, but they are nature. Remarkable.
Every Saturday afternoon at 12:00 we have tornado siren testing. They are serious things here. But, the little girl in me gets excited every spring and fall when they arrive with a vengeance.
2 -- Storm Girl. Kelsey is complicated. She is a wonderfully, smart, sexy and independent woman and I loved her. Twice this week I've found amazing books with GREAT heroines who are smart, ballsy, sexy and unique. I'm not usually a huge fan of the h's in a romance. I'm usually just glad the author didn't piss me off too much and I was able to get through to the end. Kelsey is the exception and there should be more like her. Rather perfect, if my opinion counts.
3 -- Archer. I think he was about perfect too. He was flawed, like so many others, but he didn't use it as an excuse for anything. He made no excuses for who he was, who he is now or for anything else. He was his own person. I BELIEVE strongly in second, third and even a tenth chance. I just do. You have to award the effort of pulling yourself up each and every time and trying again. Wanting to try again. I love that Archer has done this and is succeeding. He knows every day is a battle, but he is good with that. He was perfect for Kelsey.
4 -- I'm not a huge Dean and Liv fan, but they were okay here. Tolerable. Dean was a bit sanctimoneous and Liv was just "sweet". They didn't annoy me too terribly.
5 -- The cover is beautiful, don't you think? This really isn't a motorcycle book as much as it is a really wonderful story about a mature relationship that evolves from simply something to do to kill time, to THE only think you can think about doing. Archer's mode of transportation just happens to be an old beat up Harley. No matter. I still love the cover.
There really wasn't anything not to like about this one. I could get nit picky, but won't. I enjoyed this too much for that.
I really can't tell you how much I was immersed in this book. I didn't expect to. I was apprehensive. I tried the Dean and Liv stories. I read book 1 and then part of book 2 and just wasn't a fan. Too much angst for me and I don't like hypocrisy and Dean smacks of that. Liv was just a bit too too for me. They were in this one, but not annoyingly here and I did the pre-order sale and spent $1 on this one. What a fantastic deal.
I recommend this book to anyone. I really can't imagine anyone not liking this story. It is a good story about a relationship that evolves from nothing. No real angst. Just two people who really aren't looking for love, don't want it, found it and don't want to let it go. Nina Lane hit a home run with this one.
Happy Reading!

Nina Lane is a gifted writer whose talents magically place me within the story. She wields absolute power over my emotions by forcing me to experience the joy, passion and heartache of all of her characters. Lays a path I know will not be easy, but will always be beautiful. “Break the Sky” is no different. Archer and Kelsey’s romance is one laced in desire, pain and self-discovery. How I do enjoy savoring a tale of fractured souls, weathering life’s storms, striving to find their inner strength and love. Once again, Lane’s novel does not disappoint.
Archer West is a down right sexy and rebellious tattooed bad boy. Kelsey March is an atmospheric scientist/professor whose tornado-tracking project is on the brink of being shut down. On a chance meeting, erotic sparks fly and their attraction is so powerful, so carnal, it’s consuming. Their lives are worlds apart, but together their sexual chemistry is raw, tumultuous and cataclysmic.
I fell in love with Archer almost instantaneously. I have a special place in my heart for deliciously handsome and wild bikers. I could not resist his charms; Archer wormed his way into my heart with all his dirty pillow talk and larger than life character. However, what sets him apart from the stereotypical “bad boy” is his gentleness. He is not one of those Alphas whose asshole-ish ways piss me off only swoon when he finds redemption. He possesses a definite edge with tenderness so sweet it overwhelmed me. The way he is so in tune with Kelsey’s fears and understands her needs was heartwarming. And when is comes to sex, Archer is a take-charge type of man. Total Alpha - dominating and an incredibly demanding lover – off the charts hotness.
Archer is a complex character. I loved seeing the world through his eyes. His life experiences, events from his childhood, family dynamic and unpleasant past, made him the man Kelsey is drawn too. His background and secrets buried in his childhood memories pulled on my heartstrings. I was overcome with the urge to reach out and comfort him. His rough persona barely skims the surface – beauty lies underneath all his ruggedness and the way he loves and evolves was admirable. He is a magnificent Alpha hero. This is one of the many reasons I love Lane’s tales – her attention to details and tapping into emotions lures you into the lives of her characters. It’s brilliant.
Kelsey is sassy, stubborn and a bit dramatic. Can’t blame her, her professional career is careening out of control and she is attracted to a man she believes is totally wrong for her. (Fighting her desire to Archer is an understatement). Kelsey is a tough nut to crack – a perfect challenge for the likes of Archer. Now, I appreciate the angst and chase… the push and pull a couple works through. But, I felt at times Kelsey was a tad too insensitive towards Archer. Found myself frustrated with her character a few times throughout the story. Never the less, I respected her strength. She was a perfect complement for a multifaceted man like Archer.
I like the use of symbolism Lane weaves into her tales. Their love affair mimics the tornado – stormy, intense and turbulent. The writer’s use of metaphors gives great insight into her characters’ psyche and leads you to understand what lies within the depths of their souls.
I truly enjoyed “Break the Sky”. Written in dual point of view gave me more insight into the characters, making them more intriguing, and easier to make connections with. Lane has an exquisite writing style, providing detailed scenes in which I felt all the passion heat, sorrow, love and joy both Archer and Kelsey experienced. Her stories stir a powerful range of emotions. If you are looking for a read that will capture your heart and touch your soul, I highly recommend “Break the Sky”. -
4 Got Milk Stars??
More on the milk lattah. So I settled at 4 stars for this one, because I really couldn’t give it less when you got this damn fine, hot, sweet, sexy, dirty man in Archer West. Loved him, bitches be like...
Archer is Dean West's bro from the Spiral of Bliss series. He was the bad boy, black sheep, troublemaker in the family. I felt so bad for him throughout this book, everyone is just giving him shit his whole life. I loved him so much, I almost was wavering in my love for Professor West. That is saying something lovies.
So Kelsey is also from the Spiral series. Good friend to Dean and his wife Liv. Knew Dean since college. Remember her sass and spunkiness from those books?? Where did it go?? Didn't love Kelsey...bitches be like...
This is a dual POV, and I really hated being in her head. Cause OMG, she never freaking shuts up about 2nd guessing herself and how she got to where she is, and how hard her parents had it. SHUT UP.
Hence my conflict here on rating, because Archer WAS the shit. Kelsey IS a shit. Yes, he may not have been up to her pedigree school wise or life wise, but he was a strong, amazing man. I guess I loved him so much I got very protective of those trying to put him down. I mean the chocolate milk for fuck's sake?? Was that not the cutest, most enduring thing evaaaa?
The whole tornado side of the story I felt kind of dragged too. I mean I live in Texas, you seen one, you seen them all.
I don't really read books for the educational value, unless the education involves something below the belt, know what I'm saying???
Overall, I did enjoy the book. It was hot. Nina Lane knows her steam. I just didn't feel quite the connection with Archer and Kelsey that I did with Dean and Liv. But I liked Archer a lot more than Dean, so kudos on getting me another book boyfriend, but I think I got another succubus heroine outta the deal too. -
3.5
To be honest, I don't know how to rate this genre. My contemporary-romance shelf only serves to tell me that the books are not historical and that there is more romance in them than other genres. I add more tags/shelves when necessary. As for rating, it usually comes down to how much I have enjoyed it.
Well, in this case a lot. Aside from my personal nitpicks (I don't like the word slut in any context), I liked this book. I loved Archer the most.
The prologue hit me hard. It's even realistic - children can be that cruel. One thoughtless cruelty sets the path for the male lead, Archer West. I haven't read his brother Dean's story so I can be on Archer's side as much as I want.
He can be pushy at times which might annoy some people, but he never crosses the real line Kelsey sets for him. The way he gets through her walls is wonderful. They are not there just because the author needed a reason to make Kelsey more reluctant to give in. One time, though, Archer did something I wasn't really comfortable with (hint: when he called her from a bedroom to work is hopefully not a spoiler), but that too ends up being a way to get through to her.
The way their differences are resolved is believable and wonderful.
Overall, this is a contemporary romance that has realistic reasons for its characters' behaviour, a pushy but not truly overbearing male lead (he knows the meaning of giving space when needed). I read it in one sitting. Go figure. -
***5 Stars***
I don't have much to say. Well, I do, but it wouldn't be something new that hadn't been said already by those who read and liked the book.
Here are my reasons why I loved this story:
- Unique background story - heroine is a scientist, a storm chaser. I was never (and still not) into a meteorology, but it was written in a such an interesting and passionate way, that made it seem very cool.
- Instant lust, not love, connection. The lust between two main characters is instant, but the love develops slowly. I liked that. It made it seem more realistic.
- Nina Lane managed to make characters sound beautiful, without getting lost in endless and pointless descriptions of their physical appearances and body measurements. I can't tell you how many books I've read, in this genre, where an author went above and beyond describing characters clothing, hight, weight, the size of the waist, breasts, shape and length of the legs, shoulders, and let's not forget the shape and the size of the c*ck.
N. Lane managed to make erotic encounters sound sexy without going into specifics. Which I think is a talent in itself.
I had pretty high expectations going in, I won't lie, even though I didn't read any reviews, I've read author's previous books. IMO, she delivered, big time.
Overall, it was a fantastic read. -
J&G: ✯✯✯✯✯ Breathtaking stars!
Jenny: I LOVED this book so much!! I finished Break the Sky in one sitting and could have easily have gone back and started again. I should have known from the outset how completely mesmerised I would be with Archer and Kelsey’s story because Nina Lane constantly produces quality stories with quality characters. I never fail to connect to her stories through her flawlessly superb writing, eliciting a passion and emotion from within me that is second to none. There is nothing superfluous in this ladies prose. It’s true class all the way and Break the Sky only cements those sentiments.
‘I wanted more than more. I wanted everything he could give me. I wanted to find out just how much I could take.’
I will admit to initially being a bit nervous that Dean’s character could perhaps be compromised in this one. After all, this was Archer’s story and of course it would address the unresolved issues between Dean and Archer which could have shown Dean in a negative light. Clearly I forgot who I was dealing with because Nina Lane has far too much talent and love for her characters to allow that to happen. Instead I gathered an insight into the underlying struggles and what transpired between these estranged brothers and it was heartbreaking. I cried a few times in this one Gitte!
Gitte: Oh wow, Nina Lane did it again, what a brilliant and passionate story this was. I was worried whether I would fall in love once more after the fantastic Spiral of Bliss series, but yeah, I should’ve guessed that there was no way this Author was going to disappoint! Nina Lane is a beautiful writer, emotion pouring straight from her heart onto the blank pages thus bringing complete and utter bliss to an adoring reader like myself.
“I surrender……”
I absolutely LOVED Break the Sky; the writing was without doubt superbly stunning and flawless as always. I was swept up from the get go and just couldn’t put Kelsey & Archer’s story down. So much passion, emotion and intensity. So much humour and powerful hard hitting moments. I truly forgot to breathe at times.
‘Too much. Everything about him was too much. He was too big, too beautiful, too dangerous, too goddamned cute.’
Archer West stole my heart and he’s not giving it back but that’s okay, I don’t want him to!! My heart did the full rollercoaster ride with tears and laughter to a powerful lyrical beat whilst my pulse threatened to hammer out my skin. Nina Lane, you blew me away (pun totally intended!)
Jenny: Archer was such a beautiful character. I loved him. Sure he’d made mistakes but he had paid for them and learnt by them. Underneath all I saw was just that small boy who needed to belong, to be loved, to be praised and to be cared for and wow did my heart bleed for him. He needed a Kelsey in his life! Oh and ummmmm he had a very dirty mouth……pass the fan!!!
“He is a good man. A survivor.’
I always loved and admired Kelsey in The Spiral of Bliss series but in no way could I have imagined the depth that lay behind her character. Kelsey was always so supportive of Liv and Dean and I couldn’t have guessed the struggles she was hiding. Her character not only fascinated me, but connected with her completely. Archer awakened and allowed Kelsey to be who she really was and in turn Kelsey showed Archer the man he truly is and I was swept away with it all.
‘I’d once been a girl who met challenges without fear, but that girl had been gone for more years than I cared to remember.’
There were parts of the story that were exhilarating weren’t they Gitte? I think Nina captured the storm chasing better than anything I’ve watched on screen. I was on the edge of my seat, gasping with exhaustion after some scenes. Nina Lane encompasses everything I love about reading. Her stories ignite a passion in me that leave me gasping for more! Passionate, thrilling, emotional and fun. Break The Sky had it all! I “triple dog dare you” not to love it as much as I did. Absolute perfection!
Gitte: Archer West…bloody hell this man had me wrapped up tight with his fierce passion, protectiveness, filthy mouth but more so his strength entwined in a soft thread of vulnerability.
Being labelled the black sheep of the family is not easy. It only gets easy once you’ve worn this coat of disappointment for so long it’s conformed to your being and you feel at home in the downward spiral of self-destruction.
‘I wondered how he could seem both whole and broken at the same time. He was like a painting whose varnish had cracked over time and yet was all the more beautiful because of the damage.’
Archer has a hell of a past and his brotherly relationship with gorgeous professor Dean was profoundly heart breaking and I read on as if walking on eggshells. My heart categorically and irrevocably ended up belonging to Archer West. He is without doubt the essence of everything that makes up the male perfection.
Now Kelsey, what a surprise she was. I really liked her character from the Spiral of Bliss series. Being Dean’s best mate we knew of her compassion, strength and hardworking no nonsense attitude. Well, this girl had so many facets to her as a result of her interpretation of her past and her current need for respect and affirmation in her line of profession. Archer truly brought out in her what made this girl amazing, beautiful and lovable.
‘My risk-taking, brilliant scientist girl. She needed storms.’
The love affair of Archer and Kelsey was incredibly powerful and there’s no better scene depicting this than the storm chasing one which had me on the edge of my seat with my heart racing. Well done Nina Lane; you’re still on that pedestal of brilliance which is why I love reading so!

4.5 Scorching Stars!
Nina Lane has produced one of the best Contemporary Erotic Romances I've had the pleasure of reading with Archer and Kelsey's story.
Included in this delicious tale are sensual, sizzling, scorching love scenes, along with a gorgeous, sexy hero, and all this packaged together with a very well written story!
Loved it and highly recommend!
Thanks again Babs for leading me to this delectable read:)!
