Amelia Chamelia and the Birthday Party (Amelia Chamelia, #1) Reviews

With great enthusiasm, my 7 year old daughter and I read this delightful book. Amelia Chamelia is a young 7 year old who is planning and preparing her big 8th birthday party. She goes shopping for invitations and party supplies, writes a list of friends to invite and is ready to hand out the invitations at school. What could possibly go wrong? Mum has decided that Amelia’s incorrigible cousins Danny and Andy need to be invited. These two seem to cause mischief wherever they go and Amelia is dreading having them visit. Then, when Amelia tries to give the invitations to her friends at school, the invitations are accidentally dropped and fly away on a gust of wind. How will Amelia retrieve them and make sure her friends are invited? Will Amelia be able to enjoy her party or will Danny and Andy cause trouble?
The author Laura Sieveking has written a delightful story, perfectly suited to the intended audience of young girls. Coincidentally, my daughter is also planning her 8th birthday and tells me she could relate to the story line. “I would like to go to the shops to buy invitations too” says Miss 7. I asked my daughter what she liked about the book and was told, “I have a friend called Amelia and she has two puppy dogs. We like gymnastics instead of ballet and we play dress ups when Amelia comes over to play”. It is lovely to read a book that my daughter can easily relate to.
The illustrations are enchanting and portray the innocence of the young characters. There is no fancy lipstick or makeup on the girls, the shoes and clothing are just like those I see on my daughter and her friends. The puppy is also drawn beautifully. He looks to be very entertaining and is a lovely character in the book.
I commend both Laura Sieveking (author) and Alyssa Bermudez (illustrator) on this beautiful story. Thank you to Beauty & Lace Book Club and Puffin Books for the opportunity to read and review this book with my daughter. Miss 7 has asked for more Amelia Chamelia books for her birthday and I will be very pleased to purchase these for her. -
Amelia is about to turn 8, and she is so excited as she makes her party plans. When Dad mentions that 8 is a magical age, Amelia doesn't think too much about it... until some pretty magical things start happening! When she's forced to invite her troublesome twin cousins, Amelia will find that having a magical power could be very handy.
An exciting story for recently independent readers! I recommend for strong Year 1 readers - Year 3. -
A fun new early fiction series with themes of family, friendship and a touch of magic.
