This was so boring, can't stop thinking when this book will finish already, and it didn't. And I was tired. I tried to enjoy it, but I can't. I have no idea what happened to me.
This book was not for me. Sorry. -
I’ve got to tell you, this is one hell of a story, but I have to warn you, there are some possible triggers. One MC, had to go to prison for a false charge and was basically someone’s….bitch, his lover was said to have committed suicide, but was murdered, and the other MC was mentally, verbally and emotionally abused. I can’t go into anymore details without giving away the story, but I do want you to be aware of that much. The stories do go into detail as they explain what has happened to them, and it’s not pretty. But if you can get past that, the writing of this book is phenomenal. It pulls no punches, whatsoever. The characters are flawed and know it, but it’s a story of second chances and hope. Of overcoming what was done and moving forward. Working past your fears and following your heart and your dreams. It’s really a powerful story.
Steve is known at work to have people walking on eggshells around the office. If it weren’t for his partner and assistant, many may have left. But somehow, they know how and when to soothe and calm the storm. So when it comes to a new person being hired, Steve is adamant they not hire Josh, even if he is the best and most qualified. But the other two remind him, they need Josh and he’s hired. Everything seems to be going smooth while Steve is away, but when he comes back, he treats Josh like crap, never praising the work he’s done and taking his foul moods out on him. Until Josh finally has enough and lashes back, at the delight of Steve’s partner and assistant. It forced Steve to really look hard at how he’s been acting and admit why. And it shifted something between them. But Steve has something horrible from his past that has happened to him and he knows he has to tell Josh before they can move forward. But he’s terrified Josh will run. But what he doesn’t know, is Josh has his own horror story and is just as afraid. So it’s going to take a lot of trust and faith that they can get through these stories and move forward. And deal with everything that’s coming along with it.
Steve and Josh have had some very horrible things happen to them. And it’s not pretty. I felt so much for them, it had me in tears. It’s been so bad, it’s left Steve alone for over 20 years and Josh alone for several years himself. It’s scary and hurtful. But what I love about these two, is even when the chips are down, Josh at least, keeps trying. Steve has to have a kick in the butt every so often, but when he does, he sees the error of his ways and wants to make it right. To do better. And that’s what is important. To try and fix it, even if it means swallowing a crapload of pride. But these two have gotten under each others skins, despite their pasts. And they want that second chance at life and love. It’s never easy. Any relationship isn’t easy. It takes a lot of work. But with their baggage, it takes a lot of reaffirming where they stand and how much they mean to each other. And can continue to mean. If they just let go and trust the other will catch them if and when they fall.
It’s a harsh but beautiful story. And I’m glad there’s an HEA, but it’s not an easy journey. But then again, life never is. I highly recommend this story.

I purchased this book because of the amazing reviews on Amazon and oh boy, they were all right. This book is fantastic, the story is so beautiful and full of emotions, I couldn't put this down until I ended. The characters are so real and so well written that you can easily find yourself or a friend reflected on them, you start to love and care for them. Amazing book!!! can´t wait to read more from Chris Cheek
I happily endorse this story to any and all who are looking for an enjoyable read and a completely different experience than anyone could imagine on their own. I highly recommend this book -
Steve and Josh are great characters. They get off to a rocky start but once they start connecting its sweet and intimate and sexy. Their story is entertaining and brings on the feels.
Steve has ghosts of the past that still haunt him. I love how he is do connected to Josh that he tells him his story. Josh has his own troubles to overcome, but together they seem to be able to heal and grow stronger.
I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation. -
A Year of Awakening, by Chris Cheek is entertaining and emotional charged.
I like both Steve and Josh. They certainly don't click right away, but once they do, it's sweet, charming and sexy. We get to follow along with both men as they face their past relationship scars together. I find this part to be beautifully done.
A Year Of Awakening is a tender story of healing and growth through the power of love. Chris Cheek does a good job with the writing and plot, and gifting us with some great characters. -
Great read
I really enjoyed this book. Josh is really easy going and Steve is cranky and brooding. Perfect match! Actually Steve is only moody because he fancies Josh, so this changes throughout the story. There are quite a few twists and turns while the main characters fall in love. It has all the feels and genuine issues that many gay couples have to deal with.
This is my first book by this author and I would highly recommend. -
3.5 stars. The book was okay, I would liked more. I think I would have liked more of the “science”. Maybe watching them actually work on some of the bid and/or project. Also when they did the presentation, I would have liked to have seen maybe a little bit of the Q&A instead of being told about it. It also felt a little unbelievable that Steve was a 42 yr old virgin and the reasoning behind it. It did break my heart for what he went through when he was younger. I’m glad that we did have closure where Jamie was concerned. I would have liked to have seen closure with Josh’s ex. Maybe he sees him out playing in front of a crowd or something. His ex was a real douche. I liked the romance, they took it slow, once Steve got over his prickliness. I loved the epilogue. I will be continuing this series, once more are written. This is a new to me author and I will have to check out some of their other books,

Unfortunately, this was a no go for me. I do love a good May/December romance, but unfortunately, this was a DNF for me. I....am not quite sure where the disconnect was, but, it just wasn't the one for me.
