Scarlett Adams has had enough. Enough of men breaking her heart. Enough of her boss saying she needs to do better. Enough of the traffic and hustle of the city. So when the opportunity to take over her grandfather's horse ranch in the hills of California comes along, she jumps at it. She'd rather spend her time with horses, dogs, and goats than honking cars, power suits, and men who don't call back.
And she's finally happy.
Hudson Flannigan knows three things: horses, cars, and that he's never going to make his father proud. Not only that, but he's disappointed his mother too. Well, his ex-wife did that when she found someone else to love, but its somehow Hudson's fault.
When Scarlett needs help getting the rundown ranch back into shape, she hires Hudson to get all the vehicles into proper working order. The spark between them is instant and hot, but neither of them wants to endure another painful breakup.
Can Scarlett and Hudson find the faith and forgiveness they need to fix themselves as they restore Last Chance Ranch to its former glory? Or will this fine-tuning of their hearts backfire and leave them more broken than before?

This was a nice enough story so I am not sure why I wanted to stop reading at different times. Even when I was at 51%, I considered stopping.
I wondered about hiring all those people when Scarlet kept saying she had no money to work with. She seemed to be getting ahead of herself trying to please the animal rescue people but illogically so. I wondered at two millionaires (what are the chances?) working on a farm at the same time in a small corner of the world. I wondered at Alene being successfully uber secretive in such a small place. I wondered at the eight months engagement when they were waiting for marriage and couldn't keep their hands and lips to themselves. I wondered at an otherwise responsible guy like Hudson just dropping off the radar for three weeks without even a text. I wondered at Scarlet going farm to farm. I wondered at Gramps and his dementia vs how the farm looked--hoarding, yes, but I would imagine the whole place, including the animals, would have been severly neglected--one old guy (with a few volunteers and Sawyer). Plus, who had lined up the volunteers and when and who hired Sawyer who only came occasionally? How could Gramps manage a place with his dementia that took a dozen people just to maintain? -
This is a very good Christian book. I loved the name of the ranch—Last Chance Ranch. Scarlett was a hard worker with a good heart. Her grandfather was getting older and asked her to take over the ranch. Scarlett and her friend Adele were ready to get out of Los Angeles. The ranch was a mess since no one has been keeping it up, and Scarlett didn’t have much money to fix it up, but she was determined. I felt bad that Scarlett had gone through so much with her ex husband. Especially since she was off men, and didn’t feel like someone would love her especially since she wasn’t small. I felt like it was God leading Hudson to her ranch to help out. He was still trying to get over a cheating ex wife. He is a good man, a hard worker, and has a lot of experience in areas that Scarlett needed help. I enjoyed watching the ranch turn around, Scarlett’s Gramps being helped, and all the exciting things happening on the ranch. I encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.

Man this book was rough in spots in terms of character yer development and inconsistencies. She was so insecure but then also was secure enough to buy her own engagement ring with his card after knowing him for 2-3 months? Damn.

A Beautiful Romance
This is a beautiful romance about overcoming insecurities to find love.
I loved the storyline, the characters and the setting.
This book is recommended for those who love sweet romance. -
First time
My first book by this author. It had promise that was never fulfilled. The characters were very one sided and somewhat immature. I didn’t hate the story, I just didn’t love it. It has taken skimming and several attempts to finish it. -
DNF
I skimmed most of the book, because it didn’t keep my attention.
I also didn’t care for Adele, so I won’t be reading her book. -
I'm finding I enjoy Liz Isaacson's writing style. She keeps her stories clean and inspirational without them being preachy. She also pays attention to details when it comes to her characters and their professions. They are usually well-fleshed out and their backstories match how they are presented in the story's present time.
This tale was no different. I truly enjoyed reading this story. The path from past to present, from despair to hope, from dying dreams to beautiful reality kept me turning virtual pages. If you enjoy reading stories written with skill and consistency, stories which are clean and inspirational, and stories with happy endings, you should give this one a try. -
i downloaded this book because it was free on the kindle app but i was just bored during it. i am definitely not the target audience which i realize but multiple times i wanted to stop reading.

Romance, clean; series but stand alone read
LI is always a favorite read! More of a 3.5 for me as a reader. Genuine honest characters with past hurts that gradually open up to each other, and learn to trust and love again. Both Scarlett and Hudson have worries and secrets. As they each help each other and figure out their present and work on their future, their sweet fall is beautiful to read. Great side characters, and with the back story and their pasts, a lovely read. -
Happy this was a freebie and while it wasn't a bad story it wasn't a great one either. The writing was simplistic as was the story. The idea of having a rescue ranch could have been full of touching stories
of people/animal rescues and it seem to begin that way. Why the author introduced millionaires I don't know. It didn't enhance the story, didn't make it more interesting, and if the two characters were down on their luck it would have been better for the story. -
I didn't hate it.

This is an interesting stand-alone book. That said, if you choose to, you can read the series to find out how the minor characters’ lives progress. Only 30 miles away from her previous home and job, Scarlett Adams’ new life is completely different now that she has inherited her grandfather’s ranch. Last Chance Ranch is home not only to her grandfather, but to a variety of animals.
Scarlett is busy trying to clean up the ranch, including not only the homestead she and her grandfather share, but what seems like a plethora of cabins. She pushes herself to get the work done (on a very limited budget) so she can apply for a grant to make the ranch into an animal sanctuary. She desperately needs help taking care of the animals and improving the buildings and grounds.
When Hudson Flannigan shows up, how can Scarlett possibly deny him a job? It’s not his fault he is such a handsome cowboy! Although Scarlett tries to keep her emotional distance from this stranger, the sparks are flying in both directions. Coming out of disastrous marriages, they are both wary of getting hurt again. It is interesting to see what becomes of not only the ranch and its many animals, but of the characters who are in need of their own healing. -
This book was ok. I liked the whole premise of the Last Chance Ranch and what they offered. I enjoyed the ranch a lot as the author did a good job of helping me to picture it. Most of the secondary characters were likable but one stood out to me as rude and immature. In fact I haven’t decided if I’m going to read her book which is the next in the series. All though I did like the male protagonist who is going to be her love interest so I may move along to book two just to learn more about him.
What I didn’t enjoy about this book was that I have questions after turning the last page. For example, Hudson, the hero in this book, mentioned he had a service dog vest in his truck but it was never explained why he needed it. There was a lot time jumping as well. Also there were times I was a bit lost with the dialogue which I re-read over and still it didn’t clear things up.
This is a clean romance which I didn’t mind at all. Also, there is a lot of talk of God so if that isn’t your thing you might want to skip this one. -
This is a beautifully complex story of two people facing last chances all around them. Scarlett, recently divorced, who left her City life to care for her Gramps and resurrect his old ranch; Hudson who has spent months running from a failed marriage, an unfaithful wife and his dysfunctional family; and The Last Chance Ranch that suffers from years of neglect, but holds the hope of becoming a refuge for homeless animals, as well as Scarlett and Hudson.
I received a free advanced copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review. I loved the main characters and the quirky supporting cast. I liked that it was a sweet, Christian romance and I especially enjoyed the variety of animals and the activities that were instituted to fund the Ranch, such as Goat Yoga. I highly recommend this book. -
“Her Last First Kiss” is a wonderful story about 2 divorced, middle-aged city people, who were each lacking in self-confidence in their own different ways. Out in the country, Scarlett hires Hudson to help save her family’s Ranch” and as they both begin to heal somewhat from hard work & the love of animals, they find themselves falling for each other, despite many ups & downs... The characters were mostly likable, but at times I wanted to scream at them or shake them to smarten up, both the H/h and some secondary characters. However, I enjoyed the storyline & have already downloaded the 2nd book, since I have an Amazon Kindle Unlimited, trial membership right now. So yes, I can honestly recommend this book to all fans of fiction and it’s suitable for YA readers, too :)

Their best last chance
Scarlett and Hudson have both gone through tough times, with wandering ex-spouses in their pasts. Both have escaped their previous lifestyles, Scarlett has returned to help resurrect her grandfather's ranch in the foothills of the LA basin. Hudson stumbled across Scarlett's Last Chance Ranch just as he is ready to find a stable life after a year on the road. Although both these mature adults have been successful in the past they have also faced disappointment and betrayal. Finding faith and trust in each other is not easy but it is worthwhile and serves to create a loving family story of strength and courage. -
