"Roderick Copper, retired major, and Benny Gold, London cabbie, apply on the same day for places with the Rudyard Trust for Retired Officers and Gentlemen. But its eccentric and drunken Director tells them the Trust is bankrupt, and its multimillion-pound assets about to be divided among the founder's descendants -- a curious, motley crew.

"Banker sleuth Mark Treasure is called in when Copper and Gold's bizarre scheme to preserve the charity goes wrong with terrifying consequences -- kidnap, stabbing and sudden death.

"This ingenious mystery moves rapidly from drama in the Mall to sex in South Kensington, from comedy at Gatwick Airport to tragedy in Victoria -- and a gripping finish on the Essex marches."

Quite a delicious little mystery, with plenty of humor to liven things up. Copper and Gold decide to "kidnap" the son of the ex-president of Ngonga, who's a billionaire and given to giving to charity. They recruit the son, who willingly joins up, but then makes the condition that they get an additional $50,000 pounds for his mother, the ex-wife. Lovely interesting characters take the stage, and the game is afoot. Mark Treasure gets drawn into the fray as the ex-president's funds are held by his bank. I was completely misled, and had my money on the wrong man.

    I think you'll enjoy this book -- it's a fun read.
