So what could possibly go wrong at a renaissance faire ? It's not as if Owen actually remembers trying to get tickets ! With our favourite assassin around being her paranoid best you would think most would give Gin a wide berth but maybe this time she's got it all wrong ? If you follow this series you will expect deceit and death and won't be disappointed .

If you've enjoyed the Wraith Kings series then you know to expect pure fantasy that will whisk you away and this story had surprises in spades. Brida is a widow struggling to survive on the bounty she can harvest from the Sea. What she never expected was to have her world turned upside down as old legends suddenly become very real. This woman who had given up on love opens her heart but as everyone knows when it comes to the Sea you can never be certain what will happen next.
I absolutely loved this book with its wonderful mixture of romance, action and at times emotion that tugged on my heart. Each story was strong enough to capture my imagination but obviously I do have a favourite. The problem with short stories is that sometimes they can perhaps end abruptly but I guess that just leaves the reader ready to dive into whatever comes next. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed if they buy this and I'm so happy that there are authors of this calibre in the world.

The story was ok and all, but, I have only read one Gin book and that was ageeees ago. I never read more. And I did feel like fans would love this so much more. WHile I was all, ok she is an Assassin. I guess those are her friends and BF. So she kicks some ass and saves the day

This was a nice fantasy romance. Leathen grows up with the former Goddess of Spring. Oh I would have liked more of that. I know that this was only a novella, but still! This would have been a great book.
The country is dying. Can Leathen and Rain save the day? There are baddies trying to stop them and well obvi these two will have feelings for each other. Took them long enough!

As for what happened...FINALLY! OMG I HAVE WAITED FOR THAT. Happiness is something all should have.
Also, when will we meet Jenna again? Is she still alive? Arghhhh

I did not expect that and I did learn something I always wondered about, well at least Draven came up for one explanation lol.
I have read a story set in this world before, or two? Interesting little town and now it is Brida's turn, a widow, to find something and oh I can not say too much! Spoilers.

Conclusion:
Two of these are stand alone and worked great as that. Another one does work on it's own, but I feel you get more for your money if you know the series. And the final one really should be read in its series. How else can you love Harland and Essla! -

WINTER'S WEB BY JENNIFER ESTEP - 4.5 Stars
Our beloved assassin at a renaissance faire. What could possibly go wrong? Well this story is basically like most of the stories in this series except the crooks seem to be a bit more stupid and a little nutso but that won’t save them when they try to hurt Owen, Gin becomes angry when that happens and the bad guys really won’t like her when she gets angry. If you love the series (I do) you will love this story (I did)

I really enjoyed this story of Widow Brida Gazi. In the aftermath of an autumn storm, Brida discovers one of the sea's secrets cast onto the shore which leads to an unexpected adventure and another story that seems to be out of her usual realm and a bit like the recent “Kraken” series by Tiffany Roberts even though this story plays off of the story we already read in “Night Tide” which is set in the Wraith Kings world, I was riveted to the story but the ending left me a bit unsatisfied or maybe it was just a couple of questions for which I could not get answers .

Anyone that reads my reviews knows I have not been overwhelmed by Amanda Bouchet’s previous efforts even though most people seemed to like them more than me but this was an exceptional tale of love, sacrifice and tragedy (and a bit of my all-time favorite … revenge). Can’t say too much or it will spoil a wonderful story.

I actually called her evil after I read this story since I wanted to read “Warrior of the World (Chronicles of Dasnaria Book 3)” as soon as I finished this but it does not release until Jan 8 2019. Our couple unofficial the High Queen Ursula and former mercenary Harlan Konyngrr faces a challenge worse than looming war and fearsome dragons. They have to reveal their deepest secrets to each other to gain the trust they need to continue their relationship but there is enough action you won’t get bored.
Overall it was some of the best reading I have done this month and so round everything up to 5 Stars and enjoy. -
I loved the anthology so much! I enjoyed especially Amanda's and Grace's stories too! The settings are amazing, the characters realistic and this cover is stunning!

Shorts by three of the very best fantasy romance authors around! Ms. Estep and Ms. Bouchet have long been favorites of mine and Ms. Kennedy is one I hope to enjoy greatly in the future!
All three stories do depend on some knowledge of their earlier works to fully get the most out of them. But even so, I think anyone can enjoy them as standalones. -
Overall, 3.4 stars. I thought the quality varied wildly in this anthology.

I haven't read Estep's work. I read a couple of chapters in this novella, and felt the writing was immature and amateurish. Not for me, so I stopped. One star.
A WILDERNESS OF GLASS BY GRACE DRAVEN
This story falls in the Wraith Kings world, but features completely side characters as the leads. In fact, one is not quite human. Mostly, this haunting story made me feel a little sad, and I admit to being "lost at sea" with the ending. It was beautifully written, but the sadness brought me down. The romantic couple didn't quite resonate; it is not ideal when the most spark on the page is generated when the villain and the heroine interact. 3.5 stars.

I thought this was the best of the offerings, by far. It is a story complete within itself, tied in no way to other series or characters. It has a fairy tale quality, with the usual tropes associated, such as a quest, childhood friends who fall in love, evil queen, wicked witch, etc. However, with the female lead as a deity, it also struck an original note. I felt the desperation of the characters, and the romance was solid. For once, the female takes the lead, and that was refreshing, too. Five stars.

Although the Twelve Kingdoms stories are in my TBR pile, I haven't even picked up the first one yet. So of course, with this novella I skipped right to book 3.5 or so - it is clear people were coupled up in previous stories. This novella revisits High Queen Ursula and her mercenary consort. Even though I haven't read their story, I was able to follow along in this sequel with little to no problem - and that takes talent. I thought the characters were intriguing and loved their interactions with each other and their relatives and friends. It definitely made me want to pick up the rest of the series. I also imagine that anyone who loved these two in book three will adore this long, exciting epilogue to their story. 4 stars. -

Seasons of Sorcery is a fantasy romance anthology with novella's from 4 well known authors in the genre. This is a great anthology, especially if you are already familiar with the authors. If you aren't some of these read better as standalones than others. Grace Draven's and Amanda Bouchet's work well by themselves. However, Jennifer Estep's and Jeffe Kennedy's we would recommend you be familiar with the series they are set in before beginning. Overall though, if you are a fan of fantasy romance this is a must have for your bookshelf.
Winter’s Web by Jennifer Estep
This story is definitely for fans who have followed the series because it occurs after book seventeen in the series, so if you are one of those readers who are trying this author out for the first time, do keep that in mind while reading. I definitely think reading the rest of the series would be beneficial because there are quite a lot of references to past events as well as spoilers for the other books.
That being said, it was a nice for loyal readers like me to return to this world. The pacing of this story is a bit slower than I was used to. It could be due to the shorter word count but also, I think the author was aware that this story might be the first for many new readers, so I do think it did take longer than usual for her to get things started than was normal. Nevetheless, the story was still a lot of fun. Gin and the rest of the crew go to a renaissance faire and I thought that was something a little different and fun to see.
If you’re looking for a series that has great action and conflict, then I think you’ll enjoy this one.
A Curse from Spring by Amanda Bouchet
Amanda Bouchet manages to pack a lot in this novella. There’s the almost overthrowing of an entire Kingdom, a quest full of trials and tribulations for our hero and heroine and a really sweet love story. There’s a lot to get your teeth into with this novella. If you haven’t read Bouchet before and want to give her a try this is the perfect story for you.
The Dragons of Summer by Jeffe Kennedy
I didn't manage to finish this one and it had nothing to do with the quality of the novella. I have never read Jeffe Kennedy and so this was first time giving her a try, I just chose the wrong book. This is set in the midst of a series and did not read well as a standalone. It referred to events and characters that I didn't know about as well as the hero and heroine having a whole history together that I, as a first time reader, am unaware of. So I stopped reading, I just had no idea what was happening and difficulty in understanding the characters motives. But, I did enjoy the writing style, so although I didn't read this book, I see it as more of a pause whilst I hunt down the beginning of this series.
A Wilderness of Glass by Grace Draven
This was probably my favourite novella of the anthology. I loved this forbidden love story between Brida a hardworking widow and a mermen. Brida saves him when she finds him severely bruised and battered on the shore. From there a really sweet love story unfolds between them. However, Draven also added some excitement and danger as the couples secret rendezvous are being scrutinised by a nobleman who wants to use Brida's connection with the merpeople for his own nefarious ends. Although this has a slower start, it was well worth the read and reaffirms by fandom for all things Grace Draven.

Amanda Bouchet’s novella: 4.5 stars. OMG. I love this so much. I want more! SO MUCH LONGING AND ANGST AHHHHH. 😭

Gin steps quite a bit out of her comfort zone to role play with Owen and their friends. Since Gin has many enemies, she is not surprised when all the fun turns deadly, except this time, there is someone dear to her whose life is at stake. As Gin deals in death by trade, new readers should expect a high level of Urban Fantasy style violence. Fans of Ms. Estep will enjoy seeing their favorites in this new adventure.

Winter’s Web: At a local Renaissance Faire, Gin sees danger. Only this time, she isn’t the target. But her fixation with Hugh and the Circle leads her to make mistakes. I like that we see Gin flustered, not looking at all the clues, not getting the bigger picture.
The novella is an entertaining short with all the usual bells and whistles of the full length stories in the series. The story is shared from Gin’s POV and it feels like a mini version of one of her tales. The story can be read as a stand-alone introduction to Elemental Assassin series. I like the one and done adventure. My rating: B
A Wilderness of Glass: Brida is a widow. One day while harvesting seaweed with the villagers, Brida discovers and saves a merman and child. The friendship that forms between Brian and the merman feels like the reverse of a happy Little Mermaid story. As they get to know one another, she feels an attraction. They become lovers.
An engrossing and odd tale of a widow who falls for the merman. But it’s not one-sided. Yet there is no magical happy ending for the pair, yet a sense of fulfillment. They have to live with their differences and be together as physics allow. Interesting, but I do wish for a slightly happier ending. My rating: B
A Curse for Spring: Young Prince Daric of Leathen feels responsible for the drought that has plagued his land for the 10 years he’s been alive. When making his prayers to their goddess Braylian at the Cauldron, he is brave and seeks direct contact, but instead of Braylian, he finds her daughter, Spring, who is torn from the Cauldron and made flesh. Many years later, Spring (now called Rain) and Daric set out on a quest to save their kingdom before they are torn apart forever.
The pair shares an unrequited love that is finally explored as the pair journey to break the curse and feel their time is ending. I enjoyed the mythology and found the slow burn romance innocent and sweet. It reminded me a lot of Wesley and Buttercup (The Princess Bride). There is an HEA and solid story. I don’t feel I was shortchanged anything with the novella-length story. My rating: B+
The Dragons of Summer: The Dasnarians are on the move and the seat of the Thirteen Kingdoms is preparing for an unknown attack. Harlen and Ursula are dealing with personal issues that need to be put to rest so they can focus on the coming war.
This story takes place after the conclusion of the previous full length book from the Uncharted Realms series. Shared from Harlan’s POV, the novella is different from the full-length stories, which are always shared from the female’s POV. It’s first person so once in a while, I think Ursula is sharing the story, before I remember it’s Harlan.
Honestly, I didn’t realize there were issues with Harlan and Ursula until the story was told. While they did get their HEA in their original story (The Talon of the Hawk), this is a necessary stop along the way while living their forever love. I love the hard emotions Harlan experiences and enjoyed how the author put a major issue between the pair to rest.
Overall it is an entertaining novella, but I think if you don't read the series you won't get much out of it - there is a lot of history shared in the previous books. My rating: B
SUMMARY: Overall, the Season of Sorcery Anthology is a solidly entertaining and enjoyable book. Three of the stories are fantasy "romance" tales, with Ms. Estep’s book being an urban fantasy tale. I feel it is definitely enjoyable for those who haven't read any of the series these stories come from, but I do think it helps.

Winter’s Web by Jennifer Estep
I had fun with this short story with Gin and the gang at a Renaissance Festival. Of course Gin can’t go anywhere without getting into trouble. I think fans of the series will enjoy this story, although you don’t have to read it to continue the series. I’m not sure if people who haven’t read Elemental Assassins will enjoy it as much. I just think they might not understand the world and the magic that exists in it well enough. I do think people who don’t know Gin will enjoy the story, just not as much as fans of the series.

I’m not at all familiar with this author or this story. It was an interesting story. It follows Brida Gazi a widow in a small town. She now tries to help out her brother and sister-in-law who have several kids. She also helps harvest seaweed. Then she comes across something she’s never seen before.There is also someone who is stalking her.
This was a nice short story with some romance and suspense and a lot of paranormal. I would be interested in learning more about this world.

This is a stand-alone story. I have read Amanda Bouchet before. I liked her stories. This is another nice short story. Prince Daric is desperate for rain for his lands. There have been nothing but droughts since he was born. His parents are selling off pieces of their assets to get water from bordering kingdoms that have water. He was begging his goddess, Braylian, for help from her cauldron. Then a humanoid figure shows herself. Daric’s father pulls her out of the cauldron and she becomes flesh and bone. She is named Rain, since everyone kept asking her to make it rain.
This is a story of hardship, sacrifice and love.
The Dragons Of Summer by Jeffe Kennedy
This story follows Harlan Konyngrr from Dasnaria. He was also the hero of third book of The Twelve Kingdoms, The Talon of the Hawk. He is now the unofficial consort to Queen Ursula. However, he hasn’t shared everything with her. He has a secret in his past.
This story brings the fans of The Twelve Kingdoms series up to date with all that we’ve learned in The Chronicles of Dasnaria. Or, at least what Harlan knows from that series (there’s a lot he doesn’t know).
This is another story I think fans of the series will enjoy more than people who haven’t read the series. This world Jeffe Kennedy has created is pretty complex, and it is hard to get a full grasp of it in a novella length story. Not to mention, there is a lot of build up to this point.
Overall
I had a great time with all four of these stories. I got to read from two series I love, a new story from an author I’ve enjoyed and a new-to-me author. If you like fantasy stories, I recommend this anthology.

Winter's Web by Jennifer Estep - This is classic Elemental Assassin, and in just small novella, fans of the series will find just about everything they would get in a full length book, minus the progression of the larger story arc. Gin and her buddies are attending a Renaissance fair and volunteering to help out the guy that runs the thing (and also works for Owen.) While there, Gin realizes something is amiss and ends up facing a plot targeting one of our main characters.
Delicious food references? Check. On page shout out to the title? Check. Sophia's Goth fashion? Check. Finnegan rougishness? Check. Owen's violet eyes and Gin's grey ones? Double check. We even get the obligatory line on her birth control. Speaking of which, I did feel like the sex scene at the end was out of place. I love a good on-page tumble as much as the next girl, but this one didn't advance the story. And for what it's worth, it felt like the longest/most in detailed love scene I've read from these characters. (But hey, depending on your tastes, that could be a positive or a negative.)
The only thing missing was "sloppy, sloppy" but I have no doubt, it will be in the next book.
A Wilderness of Glass by Grace Draven - I mean it with my whole heart when I tell you this novella was worth buying the book all on its own. It’s set in Draven’s Wraith Kings world, but it stands up 100% as a standalone. It features a widow woman who discovers a merman and a child washed up on the shore. She saves them and develops a relationship with the man, which is friendship at first, and turns into something more. This story was everything I wanted The Shape of Water to be (but wasn’t.) I believed in the developing romance—and even in a short time, cared about the characters. The sex is hot too. On top of all that, there is a wider plot with a villain stalking the heroine… and throughout it all is a wonderful sense of setting and tone. Draven is one of the very best in this genre and this is hands down my favorite novella from her. Excellent.
A Curse for Spring by Amanda Bouchet - This is a standalone novella set in a land plagued with drought. At just 10 years old, Prince Daric tries to take matters into his own hands, approaching the cauldron of the goddess to pray for rain. It's there he meets her daughter, the avatar of spring, in the form of a young girl. Unknowing that it will take away her ability to create rain, his father pulls her into the human world. After that, she is unable to go back to where she once was and is adopted by the family. As they grow up, the drought gets worse and eventually Daric must make an awful political marriage to save his people. He and Rain can never act on the love between them. Unless they find a way to break the curse.
I enjoyed this story, even though I would never want to be the author to come after Draven. Both main characters were well drawn, and I believed in their love for each other. Bouchet did a good job with the world building as well. I've read her Kingmaker series and she consistently delivers.
The Dragons of Summer by Jeffe Kennedy - Yessssss. I'm not sure how much impact this story would have for a casual reader, but as a fan of The Uncharted Realms and the Chronicles of Dasnaria, this novella rocked my socks off. It's a Harlan/Ursula story told from Harlan's POV. This is a great companion piece to what his happening in Jenna's books. It's about Harlan and Ursula's reckoning of his secrets about his family and how they've affected his whole life. It's also an opportunity for him to make amends with his brother and it sets up a reunion with his sister perfectly. I absolutely adore the fact that Kennedy writes her novellas in the hero's POV. This one ties with the Draven short as a favorite for me, but I think you really need to read this series if you aren't already. -

Gin and Owen’s first trip to the renaissance festival was supposed to be fun! However, it turned out to be dangerous and decidedly more adventuresome then the one my family and I attended recently! I loved the action scenes and got a kick out of the villains’ arrogance. I also enjoyed the interspersed pockets of humor that helped keep things relatively light-hearted.

How on earth have I missed out on the awesomeness of Grace Draven?!! Since I didn’t check beforehand, I don’t know if this is part of the actual series or a stand alone, but who cares! I loved this story a ridiculous bunch! Even the creepy villain didn’t detract from the emerging romance. I loved Brida’s personal strength and Ahtin’s caring nature, and their romance was a sensual delight! This one was my absolute favorite of the anthology.
A Curse for Spring by Amanda Bouchet

A prince’s kingdom cursed without rain and a seasonal goddess who may know how to fix it. But at what cost? Daric and Rain’s romance was beautiful done, yet the heartbreaking moment I knew was coming still had me yelling at my kindle. Thank goodness for epilogues!

This is my first time reading this author and it won't be my last because I loved her story. There was adventure, sexy times, love and a whole lot of magic.
The Dragons Of Summer by Jeffe Kennedy- Rated 4.5 Stars
Ursula and Harlan were the first characters of this author's that I read and fell in love with, so it was great reconnecting with them and catching up with them like old friends. The Dragons Of Summer focuses on Harlan's background which put a lot of things into perspective story arc wise as well as giving you a full measure of the man. I loved this story and can't wait to see where the author takes it next. Fans of the series will definitely love this novella.
Seasons Of Sorcery is a magic filled volume with action, adventure, fascinating worlds and love in the most unlikely of places. I definitely recommend it to Fantasy lovers.

This anthology was such a treasure. Nothing can give us readers as much pleasure as having new novellas by our favorite authors published and presented to us in a gorgeous cover. Look no further for the best gift to ourselves for all seasons.
I read Jeffe Kennedy's The Dragons of Summer first because I just finished Arrows of the Heart and wanted to know more about the Uncharted Realms. And I was so happy beyond belief that the piece of information about Harlan's lost sister, Imperial Princess Jenna, in the novella convinced me that I needed to read her trilogy, The Chronicles of Dasnaria. ASAP. Fans of Fantasy/Romance need no convincing to LOVE Jeffe Kennedy's books.
Next was Grace Draven's The Wilderness of Glass. It was an amazing and haunting tale of Brida and the merman whose life she saved. My very first story without ending about a merman and a human female. What an amazing love story. I so wish for a full length book of what could be between them.
The third novella was A Curse for Spring by the most amazing Amanda Bouchet. If you already read and loved her Kingmaker Chronicles, then you know you will love this novella and want more stories from this world too.
The fourth novella was for all of Jennifer Estep's fans. I'll find some time finish it. I can feel it's going to be most awesome story too. As of now, I'm not into her series just yet. I heard about Gina Blanco & Owen . . . but. . . that's for later. -
I bought this Anthology because of Amanda Bouchet and her story was my favourite. I loved that I was able to get this finished in one sitting but I also wanted more of Rain and Daric’s story!
I really enjoyed the others but some of them felt like I needed context from other series. I have read Grace Draven’s books but I’ve never read anything by Jeffe Kennedy and Jennifer Estep; it was a nice introduction to their writing styles. -

I have never read the series that this short is from but it didn't matter. This was written so well that I pretty much understood everything that was going on and had no problem following the storyline. Overall I really enjoyed this story and want to read the series now it was so good. -

I’ve been meaning to read this book for over a month now. I’m not really sure why I put it off for so long other than I tend to do that when I’m sure I will love a book. Yes, I know that doesn’t make sense but if I don’t read the book the book can’t end, so 😛.
Quick plug: I mainly picked this book up because of Amanda Bouchet and Grace Draven. I fell in love with the writing of both women. Bouchet’s Kingmaker series is highly addictive and Draven’s Wraith Kings series is so swoon-worthy! If you haven’t read either of theses writers before I highly recommend one-clicking right away.
A Wilderness of Glass by Grace Draven; OMG this story! I haven’t read Draven in a few years and I forgot how enchanting her writing can be! I was so enthralled with the story I forgot it was a short story and was so sad when it ended. Draven’s ability to entrance you has always shocked me. In this story, with so few pages, Draven made the story come to life. I guarantee you will never look at the sea or hear a whistle the same way again. Side note: I have a thing about mermaid so it was a great surprise that this story featured them (merman are so hot!!!!).
The Dragons of Summer by Jeffe Kennedy; Kennedy is a new to me author. I was excited to get a taste of her writing though. After reading this I now want to read the rest of her books. This book had characters from a series already established by Kennedy, so I felt like I was missing a little something. It was still a great read but all it really did was spark my interest in her other books.
A Curse for Spring by Amanda Bouchet; I’m not sure how Bouchet is able to capture your attention so fully and so quickly. It’s like magic. I loved this story! It was such a fun and wonderful read. (Bouchet has been on my Auto-Buy list since the first book in her Kingmakers series). I was immediately interested in this story and read it in one sitting. I just could not put it down. It is such a short sweet read that you really have no excuse not to read it! Bouchet has once again cemented her place as one of my favorite fantasy romance writers!
Winter’s Web by Jennifer Estep; I’ve been sitting on Estep’s Kill the Queen book for awhile now. Every time I go to read it I get distracted. I will read it one day, though. I’ve now taken to carrying it around with me everywhere I go, so at some point I may trick myself into actually starting it. Anyway, back to this story. It was good. It wasn’t my favorite out of the four but it was good. I think if it would have been a little longer then it would have worked better. There was a lot of information thrown at you in a short amount of time. But the story definitely interested me in her writing- so maybe I will get to Kill the Queen faster than I give myself credit for!
Overall, this is definitely one anthology worth picking up. I generally steer clear of them (and novellas) because I rather have a meaty story than a “life balance” one. But I highly recommend this one and these authors. Two new to me authors and two favorite authors for me, but even if you’ve never heard of any of these authors I suggest one-clicking this anthology. You won’t regret it, well, I mean, your bank account might regret it but you wont.

WINTER'S WEB is alright. A solid 3/5, and as I stopped following Gin's adventures a long time ago, it was difficult for me to get back to this world. Still, a cool look at what can go wrong at Renaissance Fair and an enjoyable description of ridiculous costumes for main heroes.
A WILDERNESS OF GLASS by Grace Draven is undoubtedly 5/5. This was gorgeous, moody and poetic, definitely a must read for the fans of The Shape of Water. Like the previous short in the same setting this story is incredibly rich and heartfelt for something so restrained by the format. Brida is lovely and reminds me of a main heroine from Entreat Me, and Ahtin is adorable. This was my absolute favorite of the anthology.
A CURSE FOR SPRING by Amanda Bouchet is 4/5. Sweet, little fairy tale which held my attention throughout. It might have been formulaic, but it was bright, colourful and engaging. Would it get me back into reading this author? Probably not. Would I recommend her to someone who'd like her style more than me? For sure.
THE DRAGONS OF SUMMER by Jeffe Kennedy is 4/5. Surprisingly, I didn't hate it. I don't usually like Jeffe's writing, but this novella reeled me in like a fish, and at some point I had to finish it before putting the book down. I might even *gasp* go back and read Ursula's book to find out more about her and her man. Overall, a good read. Unexpectedly, this time it worked its magic on me.
Overall, a solid anthology, with Grace Draven's story as my favorite among four authors represented. Totally recommended, especially if you want to try some new authors.

A WILDERNESS OF GLASS от Грэйс Дрэйвен - это солидная пятерка, причем непоколебимая и со смаком. Тут вообще сразу же чувствуется разница в качестве повествования. Какая-то чудесная, меланхоличная, нежнейшая и сложная история, которая восхитит поклонников "Формы Воды" и хорошо продолжит первую повесть из этой же серии. Главная героиня, Брида, напомнила мне ГГ из Entreat Me, а Ахтин получился завораживающе странным персонажем. Любимая повесть сборника, как вы уже поняли. Ну очень советую!
A CURSE FOR SPRING от Аманды Буше на мое удивление оказалась четверкой. Такая милая сказочка, формулаичная, да, но она работает как раз в таком коротком формате. Заставит ли она меня вернуться к этому автору? Я не думаю. Но посоветовать ее новым читателям я смогу. Атмосферно и развлекательно.
THE DRAGONS OF SUMMER от Джефф Кеннеди оказалась на удивление мое четверкой. Мне с этим автором обычно не везет, так как не нравится мне ее стиль повествования.А вот здесь она закинула удочку и поймала меня на историю Урсулы и ее любовника. Очень интересная у них оказалась история с побегами из Оттоманской империи и потерянными сестрами, да так, что я может даже вернусь к этой серии и прочитаю их книгу.
В общем, солидный на четверку сборник, покупайте из-за Грэйс Дрэйвен и заодно познакомитесь с остальными авторами. Рекомендую. -

Amanda Bouchet has been one of my favorite authors since her Kingmaker series was published. I am always eager to pick up a new work by her, so I was stoked to discover she was partnering with some other authors to create this fantasy anthology. I'll give a couple notes on each story:
Winter's Web by Jennifer Estep: I liked the characters, but I'll admit I felt a teeny bit lost given that these are characters that have been fleshed out in previous novels by the author. Still, after a short learning curve I did find myself entranced in the story. I think that I could be persuaded to pick up some of the author's other works based on this story, particularly because the love between the two main characters was swoon-worthy.
A Wilderness of Glass by Grace Draven: God, I loved this story. Who knew Mermen could be so sexy? I was totally smitten with the characters and their backstories. A couple times I forgot that this was a short story. I could read an entire novel based on these characters and what becomes of their forbidden love for one another. A total winner.
A Curse for Spring by Amanda Bouchet: Another A+ story here. I don't know how Bouchet comes up with her ideas but this one was absolute perfection. Another story I could have read a full-length novel about. I was fascinated by the plot and the character's passion flew off the page.
The Dragons of Summer by Jeffe Kennedy: Okay, so this was another story based on characters from previous novels by this author. I never got fully into it, but I think that it simply because the complex relationships between various characters and their backstories. I am interested in reading previous novels by this author, though, because her writing style is really captivating and the characters intrigued me.
Overall, I think fantasy romance readers looking to branch out from their usual reads should check out Seasons of Sorcery. It gives you a really good taste of the various authors' writing styles and plot creation and I have no doubt that you'd walk away eager to get your hands on their other books. Definitely worth the price. -

Winter's Web - I got the anthology to read this story. I liked it. It does not affect the story line at all, but it is a nice step back into Gin's world and see all the characters again.
A Wilderness of Glass - I like Grace's world and writing still. This was not my favorite story, I would have liked a more resolved ending. However that being said, it was still a nice story.
A Curse For Spring - this was probably my favorite story. I have never read anything by this author before, but I enjoyed the story and will be looking into more.
The Dragons of Summer - I did not read this story, it is part of a series and I did not want to read it out of order. If I decide to read the series, I will come back and read this. -
Gosh - this anthology!
So ... I wavered between 3-4 stars ... but considering how long it took me to read (and yes granted there was a gap in there because my library loan ended while I was reading it and had to wait to get another copy ...) still though. Like had I read it through I coulda knocked it out in a few hours which maybe is what I was doing as I hit the period but ... ANYWAY.

Jeffe Kennedy's was a C+ - I dunno why I was just ... not so into it but maybe it was also my incredibly bad mood?
and then Jennifer Estep's ... as the only low fantasy - which I KNOW PEOPLE LOVE but it just isn't my jam - but it was good, and even if you haven't read any of the other books in the series, which I haven't - it was well done and sure you'd probably get more but wouldn't be lost or anything, so also a C+

I loved the longing in Bouchet's story, and the worldbuilding, and even the almost ending, then the actual ending - kinda .... hm about how the heroine had these magical powers - which I get why she kept them low key but I felt it could/should've been explained a bit more - but I also get it was a novella and probably a hard [low] word count so ...

Seasons of Sorcery is a fantasy romance anthology with novella’s from 4 well known authors in the genre. This is a great anthology, especially if you are already familiar with the authors. If you aren’t some of these read better as standalones than others. Grace Draven’s and Amanda Bouchet’s work well by themselves. However, Jennifer Estep’s and Jeffe Kennedy’s we would recommend you be familiar with the series they are set in before beginning. Overall though, if you are a fan of fantasy romance this is a must have for your bookshelf.
Winter’s Web by Jennifer Estep
This story is definitely for fans who have followed the series because it occurs after book seventeen in the series, so if you are one of those readers who are trying this author out for the first time, do keep that in mind while reading. I definitely think reading the rest of the series would be beneficial because there are quite a lot of references to past events as well as spoilers for the other books.
That being said, it was a nice for loyal readers like me to return to this world. The pacing of this story is a bit slower than I was used to. It could be due to the shorter word count but also, I think the author was aware that this story might be the first for many new readers, so I do think it did take longer than usual for her to get things started than was normal. Nevetheless, the story was still a lot of fun. Gin and the rest of the crew go to a renaissance faire and I thought that was something a little different and fun to see.
If you’re looking for a series that has great action and conflict, then I think you’ll enjoy this one.
A Curse from Spring by Amanda Bouchet
Amanda Bouchet manages to pack a lot in this novella. There’s the almost overthrowing of an entire Kingdom, a quest full of trials and tribulations for our hero and heroine and a really sweet love story. There’s a lot to get your teeth into with this novella. If you haven’t read Bouchet before and want to give her a try this is the perfect story for you.
The Dragons of Summer by Jeffe Kennedy
I didn’t manage to finish this one and it had nothing to do with the quality of the novella. I have never read Jeffe Kennedy and so this was first time giving her a try, I just chose the wrong book. This is set in the midst of a series and did not read well as a standalone. It referred to events and characters that I didn’t know about as well as the hero and heroine having a whole history together that I, as a first time reader, am unaware of. So I stopped reading, I just had no idea what was happening and difficulty in understanding the characters motives. But, I did enjoy the writing style, so although I didn’t read this book, I see it as more of a pause whilst I hunt down the beginning of this series.

This was probably my favourite novella of the anthology. I loved this forbidden love story between Brida a hardworking widow and a mermen. Brida saves him when she finds him severely bruised and battered on the shore. From there a really sweet love story unfolds between them. However, Draven also added some excitement and danger as the couples secret rendezvous are being scrutinised by a nobleman who wants to use Brida’s connection with the merpeople for his own nefarious ends. Although this has a slower start, it was well worth the read and reaffirms by fandom for all things Grace Draven. -

I expected to like this more, but I think the curse of romantic fantasy is that you can't write a great novella in the genre without having an established world and characters. This is exactly what happened here. If the story took place over the course of a novel, it would have been amazing.

I loved that the story was from Haraln's POV. I liked revisiting the world and the characters. The main conflict were secrets and the pain and mischief they cause. There was a small secondary plot with some crazy magic, but it wasn't the important part IMO :) -
I bought this anthology for Grace Draven's novella. She's one of my favorite authors, and somehow I missed this anthology's release. It was, as always, a wonderfully entertaining read. I loved her unique take on mer-people, and of course the characters and their romance were fantastically drawn with layers of complexity.
