Original Title: Daniel the Prophet. New, updated edition.

Riches and honour and life are the remuneration of humility and of the fear of the LORD. – Proverbs 22:4

God will exalt us when the time is right. We needn't try to promote ourselves; we needn't struggle for position. Let God put us where He wants us and let us be true to God. It is better for a man to be right with God, even if he holds no great earthly position. It is honest and humble men whom God will promote, if He so desires.

This study illustrates what Daniel did, and also what Daniel didn't do, which caught the attention of God and kings alike. Few are the men in history of Daniel's caliber, even though the principles he followed can be implemented by all. Are you ready to be a truly great man, one that will cause God and men to take notice?

I am currently reading an evangelical commentary on the book of Daniel; this is very good. However, it has to address some liberal theology and criticism of the text and the literary style and authorship.
It is managing very well and increasing my knowledge and spiritual understanding like all good biblical commentaries.

But I just wanted to enjoy Daniel.

Daniel the man. Daniel the prophet.

Consider the spiritual lessons of character and faithfulness.

That is why I have quickly read Moody’s faith affirming portrait of Daniel - The man of God.

Dwight L Moody was a great American evangelist in the 19th century. The Billy Graham of his time when there was no TV or radio to help advance the gospel.

You therefore need to read this book in that context.

And in that the author was writing to a male audience addressing young men to follow in Daniel’s footsteps in the wider world of business and commerce.

The spiritual message however transcends time, gender and place. It is for all believers and produces the challenges of our walk with God, based principally on the first six chapters of this Old Testament book.

Many Christians are put off Daniel by the later chapters which touch on more prophetic events and like the book of Revelation they perhaps feel it is beyond their comprehension.

This is not an issue here. This book talks about the walk of faith Daniel had far from his country; away in exile, and trying to worship his God and remember his faith while being assimilated into a new culture and values.

So much more to learn and be blessed from here. The biblical accounts from Daniel’s life are shared. We feel we already know them but each has great value for own own relationship with God and the secular world we inhabit We face similar choices today, bowing to popularism and materialism rather than idols perhaps. While not facing death by fire or wild lions we have consequences to consider.
Moody is a gentle guide who has the heart of the evangelist pointing out Christ’s role and God’s laws. He shows the unity of the scriptures and the book is short enough to read in a day or as part of a study over a week covering the one chapter per day.
A book to inspire and challenged but which will bless you along the way.

Daniel was an amazing man of faith and character. This book focuses on the first 6 chapters of the book of Daniel from the Bible. It is a beautifully written book focusing on God's faithfulness and also Daniel's faithfulness.

I really love that this company is trying to get [or keep] Moody's works before the world and for the most part they are doing a good job. This book is really good and Moody's teachings are interesting, biblical and reasonable. Hence, the four stars.
What keeps it from getting 5 stars is the Bible version they have chosen to replace [unnecessarily] the one Moody used. Sometimes these interferes with Moody's outlines [especially when they are derived straight from his Bible version- I am assuming the KJV] because they change the Scripture version without altering the outline making it awkward to say the least.
Other times their preferred version is just not as clear. Case in point, Ps. 55:17, where they say it says "Evening, and morning, and at noon, I will complain and murmur, and He will hear my voice" whereas the KJV says, "Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice."
It's a really great book, well worth the read, and worthy of your time.

    I love it.

Daniel is definitely my favorite of the prophetic books in the Bible. I find myself referring to it often. This book is truly messages preached about the stories found in the book by one of the greatest preachers of the 19th century. It is not a verse by verse exposition. It is a quick read, so take it a chapter at a time and enjoy it.

An amazing book on one of the most astounding men used of GOD. A man who is used of GOD writing about a man used greatly of GOD. I cannot say enough. Grab this copy and get yourself some leadership gems that you will need for this walk

    Timeless message

This book is a wonderful classical to read that although written more than a hundred year ago still is very fresh. Every revelation and preaching or writing based on the book of life holds gems worth reading.

Daniel: Man of God by Dwight L. Moody is an Aneko Press Christian Classic published in 2018. Dwight L. Moody (1837-1899) traveled an estimated 1 million miles, preached to more than 1 million people, and had a number of works published. Daniel: Man of God, a short book of only 7 chapters, is a personal invitation into the lives of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and Nebuchadnezzar. While many people know the story of Daniel and the lions' den or of the fiery furnace, this book provides a deeper look into the entire time period in a very easy-to-read manner. It will also help modern Christians reflect upon certain circumstances – such as when Daniel and his friends refuse to eat food from the king.

Even though this book was first published in 1884, people today might still react the same way – "when in Rome, do as the Roman does" – how can Daniel expect to live according to his religion in a foreign land? Too many people would take the easy way out and this book provides a great reminder that devotion and love of the Lord is really important.

We are reminded again and again that God was with the Jews while they were in Babylon by Moody in Daniel: Man of God. An example is provided in Daniel – his faith was very strong. God is "able to deliver" the men from the extreme heat of the furnace but Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did not claim that God would deliver them. In the furnace there were four men. Wonderful advice is provided by Moody – "dare to do right; dare to be true; dare to be honest" (30).

In addition to the more recognizable stories from the book of Daniel, Moody also looks at the time when Nebuchadnezzar goes mad but then regains his sanity and attains a new spirit. Just like men today, he was thinking and doing things as if his success was a result of his own power – not that of God's. We also read about Belshazzar and Darius.

Through the story of the lions' den, Moody reminds us that "the world will persecute a man if he attempts to live the life of a true Christian" (58) but Daniel was courageous and did not let vanity or warnings of persecution compromise his sense of love and duty to God.

I really enjoyed reading Daniel: Man of God by Moody. In the past, I have found reading Dwight L. Moody a little laborious but this book was very difficult to put down – I enjoyed it that much. I would recommend it to those who enjoy reading Christian classics, to those individuals who wish to know more about the book of Daniel, or those interested in reading more from Dwight L. Moody.

This is an excellent book. Very concise, yet filled with important truths demonstrating how the Christian should live a Godly life in the face of a hostile culture, using Daniel as an example.

It aims to challenge and poke that part of you that shies away from admitting you are a follower of Christ or doing/saying anything that may seem at odds with those around us.

I think Moody sums it up well with this quote 'Ah, thousands of men have been lost because of a lack of moral courage; they have been lost because at some critical moment they shrank from going to their knees and being seen and known as worshippers of God - as being on the Lord's side. The fact is that we are a pack of cowards; that is what we are. Shame on the Christians of the nineteenth century! It is a weak and sickly thing. If only we had a host of men like Daniel living today.'

    Amen Moody. Amen.
This problem transcends the nineteenth century and stretches assuredly into our own. How I hope and pray to live as fearlessly as Daniel in the face of the lion's den!

    Character matters

What a great short book. Reading the story of Daniel and his friends I realised that I was not too familiar with the stories I thought Daniel went into the den of lions first 😊 so this book really helped to put them in order
I love how it emphasis the need for having a good character. This is something that is not talked about much these days but hope that it will have a resurgence. Because character is very important if we are to live the lives Christ wants us to live.
And the story of Daniel really shows how to live as a man of great character

    Excellent Points on Daniel

My husband and I read this book aloud so we could discuss the points brought out in the text. I've read through the book of Daniel several times before but Mr. Moody's observations showed me a few new points I'd missed. There were also mentions of other books and quotes I wouldn't have found on my own.
Overall, this short book was well-focused and informative, as well as easy to understand. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an example of godly manhood.

I think in this 21st century where evil has become the hallmark of the world, a book like this, will help us reshape our thoughts amidst this ongoing raging battle of the world. As Christians we are commanded to live a holy live by our Lord Jesus Christ (be ye holy for I am holy), I believe resources like this will help us to constantly remind ourselves that the world is not our home, for we are just pilgrims.

    D. L. Moody wrote with clear and context, simple and Scriptural, powerfully and pleasurable to listen to through audiobook. It wasn't too technical and easy to understand if you're already familiar with the Book of Daniel in the Old Testament.

    Basic

I know it is a book mostly written for men but it is also interesting for us women. I had very little knowledge of Daniel and now I learned some great stuff. I loved the biography part, especially the end where the writer state that when his mortal body die, he is more alive than ever.

  • Jesica

Short and too the point. This book was a telling of the Book of Daniel and his trials as a captive in Babylon while still retaining his faith as a man of God. Dwight Moody wad an evangelical preacher and thus the book reads like a sermon on how to be a upright worshiper of God taking clues and hints from Daniel's life. I absolutely enjoyed it and many of the similarities can still be used today.

  • William

A reasonably well-written exposition on the stories from the Book of Daniel. Moody often goes into his own version of stories adding unnecessary dialogue and assumptions not supported by the biblical text. While this is annoying, he never outright contradicts the scriptures.

  • Cory Briggs

    This almost got 4 stars

Reading Moody can get a little routine and that may have jaded me a little bit. It got 5 stars for the strong encouragement he renders to Christians towards the end.

  • Mario Saraiva

Moody presents good insights on the book of Daniel

What stuck with me the most was the clear explanation of the timing of events in the book of Daniel as well as the interactions between Daniel and the Kings.

  • Mike Panton

Quick read, but good. It's always good to go a little deeper with some of the Old Testament stories.

It's mostly just a retelling of the story of Daniel along with some commentary. It reads like a long sermon.

    How a man should walk

Daniel's life was one without compromise, a life of character, esteem and humility. Thanks to this book, I am better equipped to stand tall in the face of lions.

Great book for determining how to live for God in modern world.

    Rating for excellently written
Nothing to dislike and particular liked wisdom gained.
Will recommend young Christians to read it for gaining in working in a secular world
