Disney Aladdin Reviews

I saw the movie the moment it came out in the cinema, and I was surprised that I didn't like it much .. it was an OK movie at best for me and the animation was way better, so I decided ( as usual ) to read the novelization for it and it was exactly like the movie minus the songs but it was pretty much the same .. I liked it and for some reason it was more enjoyable for me than the movie, but nothing really different

This book is a fantastic new way to tell the tale of Aladdin. Because this not just about Aladdin, it's also about my favorite Disney princess Jasmine! In the animated film Jasmine is not the main character, but in this story she truly shares it with Aladdin and it made my heart so happy. Jasmine and Aladdin are still the same people. Jasmine is judged for being a woman who shouldn't be Sultan because of her sex. Aladdin is judged because he is poor and has to steal for food. Aladdin and Jasmine feel trapped in different ways, but still understand each other. They are also both lonely with only an animal companion for their company. Jasmine in this story is smart and witty. She has read every book on Agrabah and studied the maps so she can one day be a great leader. But her dream is to become a Sultan without having to marry a prince. But after the death of Jasmine's mother, her father is overprotective and won't let her even go out to the market to meet the people she'll one day rule. Jasmine is frustrated because she doesn't just want to marry a prince, and if she had it her way she wouldn't marry at all. Jasmine is so much stronger in this story and has a bigger story to tell and it made me so happy. In the end something great does happen to Jasmine that made me cry tears of joy for my favorite princess. She doesn't just lay around and wait for things to happen. She works hard and tries to make them happen. Jasmine will not remain silent if she does not agree with something that is so important to her. She stands up and does something about it. She knows she would be an amazing ruler if her father gives her that chance. Onto Aladdin he really loves princess Jasmine and will do anything to be with her. Aladdin and Jasmine both lied to each other because they really wanted to be together. But they do realize that it was silly to do such a thing. They love each other and that's what matters. It doesn't matter how poor Aladdin is or how high on a pedestal Jasmine is. They want to be together and will do what it takes to keep that love alive. I love that these two don't let others push them around. They work for the things they want and push each other to be the best they can be. And together they defeat Jafar the person who has been in their way since the beginning. This book really pleased me with how they made Jasmine such a significant character to the story. She's more than just a princess waiting to find the prince that'll sweep her off her feet. She's still that girl, but more of a force to be reckoned with. Jasmine is very educated and also likes books! So she also reminds me of Belle, but Jasmine is more of a leader than Belle. This book has made me love princess Jasmine even more and I didn't think that was possible. She has been my favorite princess since I was little. I had always hoped that one day she would get the story that she truly deserves and she finally is! I have even more high hopes for this and can not wait to see this all play out on the big screen soon. Thank you, Disney for giving this amazing princess what she's always wanted and giving her a true voice.

I had just recently watched the live action remake, which I recommend not doing just before reading this novelization. I haven't read any novelizations, so I haven't registered how it'd be just the same as watching the movie, it's a good reminder for the film, but it's not as fun if you've just watched it.
This was one of my favorite live action films Disney made, the Genie was the highlight for me. This novelization is the film minus the songs with a little bit deeper look into the character's inner thoughts that we haven't seen in the film. speaking of thoughts, this book has the highest rate of using this phrase "as if (blank) read his thoughts", it's crazy!
This book is written for a younger audience, late middle grade level or very early young adult, so it was easy to read. I enjoyed it, and I wish I've kept count of the times they tried to put in words from the songs into the characters speech and thoughts. -

This was a lot of fun but my dumb ass kept expecting them to burst into song.
Honestly, as much as I enjoyed myself reading this one, it really isn't necessary if you've already seen the movie. -

So I finally saw the 2019 Aladdin movie not once but twice over the weekend and I am officially obsessed - never have I ever felt on such a high leaving the cinemas!! As such, I picked up this novelisation (with thx to my good friend, Maisie who got this for me from her area) and it’s such a charming book, a lovely story that dived in in a little deeper than what the movie already showed us but enabled me to relive the movie as I was reading this book. The novelisation is written for a younger audience but enjoyed just the same by an adult. There are also lovely still shots of scenes from the movie included in this. Yes Aladdin is one of my favourite Arabian nights tales and this novelisation does it and the movie justice!!

Ach grausam.
Also hier ist einfach der Film besser, was jetzt nicht überraschend ist -
One of my favorite Disney stories! This was my first time reading it, I was happy to finally get to do. Super quick read, still just as cute. I'm excited to check out the additional retellings of this classic.

Surpreendida. Fiquei a achar que seria estranho sem as músicas que me habituei desde que me lembro com o filme de animação e que depois foram cantados e tocados no filme de 2019, mas acho que foi feita uma boa combinação no livro.

Such a cute read and I can’t wait to see the movie now! It was definitely similar to the cartoon, but there were some differences as well, especially to the character of Jasmine. I really liked how they developed her character a lot more.
-
This book flowed so good. I could have read in a day but had other books I needed to finish. This retelling is based off the newest Disney's Aladdin live action version. I liked the book much better than the movie.
-
This was a cute book, and I enjoyed getting to enjoy the story like this, but it didn't really add anything to the movie. It was just a lot longer to get where the movie got in 2 hours.

An enjoyable retelling of Disney's Aladdin. I particularly liked the way the classics songs were adapted into the narrative to capture those same magical moments through the medium of a book.
As a stand alone book, I probably wouldn't have rated it quite so highly - I felt there were a few places where the action could have been fleshed out a little more. There were a number of minor continuity errors that should have been picked up on during the editing process and I think a little more description would have been nice in places.
However, as a companion to the movies this was a charming and thrilling read. Aladdin has always been my favourite Disney story! This book mostly follows the 2019 movie, with one or two moments reverted back to the original animated movie and a few moments that were unique to this telling - all minor moments, nothing that affected the integrity of the main story, but beautifully captured moments, especially for an Aladdin fan such as myself.
I particularly liked the minor addition to the story found in the epilogue - if you love Aladdin as much as I do, this is definitely worth a read! -
Really an interesting take on our beloved story. Loved all the twists and new characters. But loved the new depth in Aladdin and Jasmine's character, and Genie's arc. 4.75 stars. A real quick and enjoyable read.
Now eagerly waiting for the movie. Can't wait to see all these things coming into live on screen. -
Oh, the music that plays
As you move through a maze
In the haze of your pure delight
You are caught in a dance
You are lost in the trance
Of another Arabian night -
This was really fun to listen to! There was a lot of added details from the original animated movie and used some of the storyline from the 2019 live action, but also gave its own twist.
I would’ve liked if there were more Middle Eastern descriptions and words, meanwhile this audiobook was very westernised. There was occasional words of Sultan and minaret, but for foods and clothing items etc most of the words that were used were English phrases. For instance when the genie and Aladdin went to the harvest party, the genie said he would go and drink some punch lol. Jasmine’s clothing was described as a gown and a shawl, etc
Also there were a lot of details added from the live action that was used in this novel that I just didn’t like. For instance Jasmine’s storyline of being oppressed as a woman and wanting to be a female leader. She wasn’t allowed to so she felt “speechless”. It would’ve been more better if it was a Middle Eastern writer working for Disney, however it was a white woman who wrote this. It can be just very problematic to portray a fictional Middle Eastern country (the only representation that Disney has ever given to Middle Eastern people) as oppressing women to lead (which wasn’t even in the animated movie). If a middle eastern woman wrote this, even the oppressed storyline, it would’ve been done better and not as problematic because she would get the nuances of the culture...
The best part of this novel adaptation is the prologue and epilogue. In the prologue, we are introduced to a nameless father on a tiny boat and his children who are admiring a larger boat in the sea. He tells them money isn’t everything and he then narrates the story of Aladdin. Afterwards in the epilogue, we learn that this father is actually the genie 😮 It was really sweet that we actually got to see Genie’s desire of traveling the world come true and even telling the story to his kids. It was very adorable and heartwarming. Genie def the best character for sure.
The audible narrator did a fantastic job. They really had the vibe and energy of a Disney princess. I think this would be really fun for kids to listen to. The descriptions of magic was really gorgeous, and enticing in a different way than the movies!
also hated the presence of the white prince (just like i hated him in the live action). he was funny but of course they needed to add whiteness to a space where it wasnt in the first place (cartoon version will always be superior!) -
An orphaned streetrat in Agrabah, Aladdin struggles to feed himself and his monkey. One day, a beautiful, clueless maiden comes to market and he has to rescue her from the palace guards. Soon, he finds out that she is none other than Princess Jasmine. The princess, however, can only marry a prince. Desperate, Aladdin makes a deal with the vizier, Jafar, to retrieve a lamp from the Cave of Wonders in exchange for wealth beyond his wildest dreams. When Jafar betrays him and leaves him to die in the Cave of Wonders, Aladdin discovers the lamp has a genie in it. Things start to look up for Aladdin as he becomes Prince Ali of Ababwa, but Jafar isn't ready to give up yet. He will stop at nothing to conquer Agrabah. Can Aladdin stop him? Well-developed, engaging adapation of the live-action movie. The characters are trues to the movie, likable, and easy to relate to. Fans of Aladdin will enjoy reading this book from cover to cover.

Aladdin has big dreams and a heart of gold. Forever being told he is a street rat and nothing more, it feels like Agrabah, the city he lives in, is out to get him. Jasmine is a Princess, who would really love to be Sultan, but she can’t because her father who is the current Sultan and Jafar, who is the Royal Vizier, have different plans...but when they say diamonds in the rough meet...who knows what will happen?
Aladdin is my favourite all time movie, so I was super excited to read this book.
Elizabeth Rudnick did an amazing job of adapting Disney’s Aladdin. I wasn’t disappointed and loved the journey she took me on. There was a lot of feeling, events and thoughtfulness to the way she wrote.
If you love magic, mystery and good versus evil, Disney’s Aladdin should be at the top of your list to read. -
I LOVED THIS SO MUCH!!! I loved the live-action movie and loved the book even more! Scenes that were cut from the film were kept in the book... and so many more parts, as well. Though I’m a music-lover (and you know, the movie’s full of music), there’s something about reading the book. About reading the thoughts going through the characters head. You just seem to get to know them even more! My favorite part was how they wrapped the story up with the epilogue... Taking place 7 years later. ❤️

3.5
It was cute, I enjoyed the movie better. Though there were so scenes and dialogue in here that didn't make it to the final cut of the movie that I wish they did, and others that I'm glad they didn't. So all in all it was enjoyable. -
I actually really enjoyed this book! Although it had some repeating parts, it didn't bother me so much. I really liked how their were a lot of extra parts included in the book that weren't in the movie. Really great book!
