Marvel Alphablock (An Abrams Block Book): The Marvel Cinematic Universe from A to Z Reviews

First sentence: A is for Ant-man. B is for Black Panther. C is for Captain America. D is for Doctor Strange.

Premise/plot: Abrams has published some lovely block books in the past including: AlphaBlock, CountaBlock, BuildaBlock, CityBlock, and StarWarsBlock. Their newest stars Marvel characters. It is still an alphabet book. But it's a fun-and-clever alphabet book. I like turning the letter-shaped pages to reveal the story. I also like seeing the other characters featured throughout the book. (B isn't just for Black Panther...Bucky and Black Widow appear as well. G is for Gamora and Groot. Agent Carter can be spotted before Captain America as well.) The illustrations are packed with details from all the movies. The last spread has a list of all the characters featured throughout the book. There are fifty-four in all.

My thoughts: I really enjoyed this one. I did. I don't love, love, love, love all the Marvel films equally. I have my favorites. I, of course, have my favorite characters as well. There are some characters that I just love and adore. Reading this one makes me want to revisit some of the movies I haven't seen in a while.

The audience for this one is fans of ALL AGES. The Marvel movies are not particularly appropriate for young kids...especially preschoolers. When you see board books you almost naturally think toddlers or preschoolers. But if picture books can be for older readers, why not board books too? (Also, there is nothing inappropriate about sharing this one with little ones. They are just names.)

It's a fun alphabet book based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. NOT the Marvel comics universe, so X is for Xandar, not X-men. The illustrations by
Peskimo are cute version of many of the scenes in the movie, and I was happy to see a lot of gender and ethnic diversity in the choices. (For example, I was expecting Vision for V, but they went with Valkyrie instead.) It's a little strange to see an adorable Red Skull, but other than that a very nice presentation.

THIS IS ADORABLE! Ok so I got really emotional during the last 20 minutes of Endgame, I didn't realize how much I enjoyed these characters, and how much humanity was infused in these heroes. This is a great book for the hip-nerd-toddler crowd and would make a great baby shower gift. In the rare case, I recommend buying your own though, because open-flap books get DESTROYED at the library!

This was super cute and I forgot to log it when I read it because I was like 'lol it doesn't count' but you know what?? it DOES count it counts so much and absolutely not just because i have 10 days to meet my goodreads challenge !!

  • Rob Solka

    So adorable :)

  • Bianca

I could not believe how joyful this was - I had a genuine reaction of delight to just about every page! There are great iconic movie moments on these pages - O and J are my favorites but I won't spoil them. 4.9 stars out of 5 because of one annoying thing that prevented this from being totally perfect. Go read it!

This is a lot of fun. It's not really for kids just learning the alphabet, though, is it. Great artwork. Captured a lot of characters from the movies. They even found an 'X' and a 'Z', which so many alphabet books struggle with.

  • Kitty

Our favorite in the alpha block series. Our preschooler is interested in superheroes but is too little for the movies. A great intro to the characters without trying to boil plots down to their level.

  • Mia

Another great board book from Peskimo. I especially loved this one because the vocabulary words are in alphabetical order. Great for families who love Marvel, but also those learning to identify letters of the alphabet!

  • Earl

The latest installment in the Alphablock series features Marvel superheroes with an occasional surprise for the readers.

  • Tiffany T

I'd say I got this for the kids but it's more for my husband. It's all the Marvel movie characters in one place. Fun times!

  • Hurricane_ReD

This is a really cute book...but has far too much Black Panther and far too few X-Men.

  • Whitney

    Really cute and really cool.

  • Court

    Adorable!

  • Donnita

My 2-year-old grandson is enthralled with superheroes. This book is perfect to help him with his ABCs. He wants to read it over and over and over!

  • Miss Ryoko

    The illustrations are SUPER cute

  • Cait

LOVED THIS BOOK!!! Oh man parents of babies - I’m buying your baby this book.

  • Kale

Read in the middle of Costco, pretty good they could’ve done better on some of the letters but all around a very cute book I would’ve bought it but I don’t know a single child to give it to

  • Kasey

    Simple and super cute

  • Andria

If this didn’t count, then why is it on here?

  • Lexi

L is for Loki. That's good enough for me.

  • Eve

A very high quality book and an extremely fun way to think of the ABCs!

  • City Girl

I like how it included scenes from the movies they were in, not just random drawn pics of them.
