Gavin:
Up on the mountain I’m of club royalty. I am the legacy.
I am the man who was sent to save the Mountain Misfits MC from my father’s need for destruction.
But maybe I don’t want to take on this burden anymore.
Maybe I want a white picket fence and a good woman to settle down with.
Maybe I’m tired of this blood on my hands.
Or maybe I want it all. One foot on the mountain, the other down below, chasing after a woman who doesn’t see me for the man I truly am. A woman who likes my leather cut. A woman who’s smart enough to know better, but damaged enough to not care.
Sloan:
When you rely on a man for everything, the only thing you are worth is your word.
And if my word is my worth, then I am worth nothing.
I took my ex’s money as fast as he was willing to give it to me.
I watched him sell heroin to pay my college tuition.
I played his games, lived in his mansion, and lied through my teeth until I put him behind bars.
And now I have nothing. Nothing but the scars on my arm and the sneers of my colleagues.
What’s one more bad decision when my life is made of many? Especially when that bad decision smells like leather and looks like the kind of guy who might just be worse than me.
Above & Below is the PREQUEL novella to the Mountain Misfits MC series. It ends on a serious cliffie, but I promise the HEA is coming in book 1! Just a little teaser to let you know what you're getting yourself into.
Please note - themes of violence, abuse, and drug use, plus motorcycle club language are featured in this novel.

I’m not sure exactly how I feel about this one.
It has potential. And I must admit I like Gavin and the whole MC set-up.
What I’m not sure about is Sloan. But since the next book is on KU I’m going to give it a try. -

Above and Beyond is a prequel to a new series, Mountain Misfits MC, that is going to rock your world!
Sloan is a doctor going to school to become a surgeon. Arthur is her boyfriend who she finds out is shady. Sh*t is about to hit the fan.
Gavin just returned from college. He's been voted in as VP of the Mountain Misfits MC. He wants to fulfill his grandfather's dream.
It broke my heart what Gail was doing to her ten yo son. -
Good start....
Honestly for myself as a reader this was a teaser lol.....it's definitely got good vibes, good storyline, some interesting characters so far and dark angsty vibes.
So onto the actual first full book in the series.

Honestly, I am not sure this story is going to work for me. The writing is great and the story flows, but I am having a few issues with the main characters.
Gavin is decent, if not a tad formal at times. I like the idea of a character leaving to find his path, but the way he thinks about the club, it makes me feel like the MC would be better off without out someone who already has one foot out the door. Also, is has little mood swings; and for me his emotions don't match what his words are saying. I can't connect to him.
My real issue is with Sloan. I really don't like her already. She is winey, rude, self centered, and staying with a man who is abusive to her because she likes money. She is taken care of; given money, her medical school is paid for and she is sitting pretty but is unwilling to respect herself. My peeve is when she complains and is upset about what her boyfriend is doing, (illegal activities) for the money and the abuse she is receiving, but she is not willing to do anything about it because: MONEY! Uggg... I very much dislike characters who play victim, and Sloane is one of them.
I might give book one in this series a try in the future as I am interested to find out where the MC and Gavin go, but I really could care less about Sloane. That's a bummer when she is half the story. This is my first read from this author and I look forward to reading more in the future, it just might not be this series. -
For a prequel, the background stories of the Hero and heroine are pretty gritty. The guy who grew up in a motorcycle club made the unusual decision to go to college but gives up his plans for law school to rescue his 10 year old brother from his druggie mother and her pedophile boyfriend. Gavin has to decide what to do with his life. However, Sloan is going to medical school, but for years she has been dealing with abuse from her boyfriend who sells coke to support the two of them in high style. Her life goes from bad to crippling. They meet briefly at the Mountain Misfit's mansion at the beginning of her last year in fellowship as a trauma surgeon. They were impressed with one another for sure!

Gavin and Sloane are perfect for each other in my opinion, if only that I don’t care for either character too much. Sloane is just confusing and regardless of her misery, I do t have too much compassion for her since her actions don’t seem to portray her plight- abused but staying for money?Gavin is just as confusing, though a bit more tolerable. He had some redeeming moments but not enough to sway me. Since I was not able to invest in the characters, I wasn’t invested in their journey either.
I received this book for a voluntary, completely honest and non incentivized review. -
I didn’t pay enough attention when I requested a free copy of this PROLOGUE. I’ve been reading and listening long enough not to get myself committed to advertising but I did it. This is only that. A taste of the characters and stories of this series. You can also get it free on Amazon. I really liked it and would have probably got into this series. The characters are very well described. The flow is constant. The Narrator Ken Solin made it believable. As I said I got a free copy and this is a voluntary review.

I feel knowing the harsh beginnings of both Gavin and Sloane will really help me become invested in these characters and this series. Sloane, with her drug dealing, addict of an ex, who almost jeopardised her medical career and her life. And Gavin, having to not only rescue his 10 year old brother from his neglectful mother, but also cement his place amongst the Mountain Misfits MC.
Change is coming. And I have a feeling Gavin’s budding relationship with Sloane will be the major catalyst for this. Can’t wait to head into the series proper. -
This is a first time reading Deja Voss, and I was blown away. From the very beginning I was captivated by Sloan and Gavin’s story. Two people who quickly gravitate to each other have pasts that neither can escape from. This book will take you on a wild ride full of suspense, pain, passion and a little sass. The secondary characters add depth to this story and will have you laughing and crying. I am officially a fan of Deja’s writing and I can’t wait to read more

Great Progue
I started book one but I read that the author suggested reading the years before Gavin and Sloane meet to get a background of them and other characters. Well I am glad I read it. I now know everything that has happened and what each of them stands for. I am off to read book 1 of this series. I can not wait...this author pulls you in and doesn't let you go. Happy Reading!!! -
Wow not what I was expecting
This is a fast read...but it is good. Basically a trailer trash girl grows up and betters herself but hits a hiccup along the way. A abusive relationship with drug abuser. The other person a biker guy who went to college against the wishes of his biker president dad. He has big dreams that his grandfather installed in him. The two have a cross meeting and they have a connection. It's really a good read. I cant wait to start the next book. -
First book I've read in this series. Gavin had left Misfits moutain and went to college. He was supposed to start the next term to be a lawyer, but one call changes all that. Sloan had a good life until she got caught up with her boyfriend and his drug using/dealing life. They both have a lot to over come, Gavin trying to make the club like it used to be with his grandfather and Sloan getting her life back as a doctory. This book is to be continued. Can't wait to read the next book.
-
I loved this novel, the plot was well written. The love interest only briefly got started... or did it? Can not wait to read the next novel to see what happens. Lots of plots that keep your interest, and i can only assume will flow into further books in the series. Its not like other short/prequel novels that leave out lots of details or do not make sense, this novel gets you salivating for more!
-
This prologue packs quite a punch. Filled with intensity, drama, violence, action and stunning twists. This read pulls you into the story and it will leave you hanging on a cliffhanger in preparation of the next book in this series. I am posting a totally honest, voluntary review.

Prologue
I do believe this was the author’s debut and I think it is a great first start. We are set up with some history for the main male and female characters in the next book. I love that! -
This is definitely a series that I’ll be keeping up with. The way these two meet and their backstories are interesting and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what happens with each of them as well as Olive. I’m voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.
-
I felt for Sloane in this book. The writer did a great job of setting the scene of her life and I welcomed the introduction of the MC into her life via Gavin. Well, not all the MC, but Gavin was pretty great. I look forward to reading more.
-
A short background to Gavin and Sloan. She has suffered at the hands of her ex and this is her POV. It starts with Gavin and her initial meet then backtracks through their lives to get where they are now. A good start to a series
-
A sort of prologue I think. I was not that connected to the characters but it is a nice beginning and introduction to the story. The heroin was not always to my liking. It has a nice storyline and I look forward to reading more.
3.5 stars -
Grrr I wish I'd read this book before I started the series!!!
Great first pre book and yeah answered a lot of questions/problems I had with the first book.
Needs to say at the beginning of book one that this book should be read first! -
I chose to read and review this book. I enjoyed reading this book. It was well written. I liked the characters and the plot. I enjoyed the interactions between Gavin and Sloan felt it real and it was intense can't wait for more.
-
This backstory of two characters was well written and set up the next book nicely. An intriguing sometimes dark twisted read. The twists and turns just keep coming until the end. There's a cliffhanger but definitely recommend reading.

LOVED IT!😃
I first read this story in a compilation book last summer. It was my first experience reading anything of Ms.Voss' and I'm very happy I found this author, because I truly like her storytelling! I just bought the first book in the series and I can't wait to dive in!! -
Sloan and Gavin
Wasn’t sure how this book was going to start off now it got me intrigued. Gavin graduates fro. College only to have to come to take care of his brother. Sloan is studying to become a surgeon and in my opinion is a naive
