OTT, but fun. 3, I want to see how this ends, stars.

2020 Read #191
I really liked this first volume! It had the charm of Ouran High School Host Club with the zaniness of something like Special*A. The heroine’s a bit too doth-protest-too-much, but that’s pretty normal in manga where the boy is an elite yet dense rich boy and the girl is a Cinderella type. I guess I’m just a sucker for the stories that use these tropes in fun ways that don’t feel dull or overdone. -
This is, hands down, the cutest, sweetest and most amazing shoujo manga out there.
It plays on all the usual tropes: Hardworking commoner girl meets handsome prince. Except this manga overexaggerates all the tropes to the extreme - and the result delightfully fun. In fact it's so sweet that you'll thank God for giving you diabetes!
The art is, of course, amazing as well.
Such a sweet detox cure for my (un)healthy yaoi obsession.
So freaking glad this manga got licenced that I headed straight over to Amazon to purchase the volumes instead of the (yet another) winter coat I'd been lusting after. My life is now complete and I can die happy ❤😂
Thank you unnamed manga pirating site for introducing me to this little 💎 Your hardworking translators have earned the artist a new, paying customer. Can't wait for volume 4. -
I get that this is full of your shojo cliches. But, I did not expect this to be as funny and entertaining as it was. I was reminded of Special A and Ouran High School Host Club, two mangas I really enjoyed. I'm going to continue with this and see how I feel.

Over-the-top, but so freaking adorable :-D

Well, a fun girl who is grounded meets an over the top prince of the school. Sadly, it didn't work for me. *sighs* The art was pretty and I loved the style. Our MC was fun. There were some sparkly moments that I could see the chemistry/notion of romance between the two. Plus, the petals, so many petals. But the rest. Nope.
And the prince was just dumb. He is like an exaggerated edition of Tamaki, and that says a lot given how little Tamaki seemed to understand life. But at least with him you could see he was trying and learning. This dude? Just doesn't get it at all.
But can that guy with the glasses just fuck off already. LORD. There is infatuation with someone and there is obsession. Shooting people with blowdarts, going so far to threaten them with death, constantly insulting people. WTF is wrong with you? Fuck off. -
まぁ可愛いが無理がある
そしてどうしても「桜蘭ホスト部」の二番煎じに感じてしまう -
this was actually so cute

Today's post is on The Prince's Romance Gambit volume 1 by Niiki Asada. It is the first in her The Prince's Romance Gambit series. It is 172 pages long and is published by Kodansha Comics. The cover has the two main characters on it with the main female character pushing on the main male. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of the main female character. There Be Spoilers Ahead.
From the internet- With an IQ of 500, Prince Hatsuyuki Ichimonji has the bloodline of kings and more oil companies and titles than he can count! Even with everything at his fingertips, this extraordinary prince has his life thrown completely off-balance by one absolutely plain and plebian girl, Koume Yoshida! But she’s unsure if she wants anything to do with him! Will the prince manage to wedge his way into her heart through sheer persistence? The love story begins with The Prince’s Romance Gambit volume one!
Review- This is a funny start to a fun series. Koume is just trying to get the best education that her grandfather saved up for her. But when she accidentally runs into Prince Hatsuyuki Ichimonji and gets his attention by not wanting his attention all hell breaks loose. Well it turns out that Hatsuyuki is really just very socially awkward and he wants to be friend with Koume but has no idea about how to be friends. So we have our story with a little crush being added as the story goes on. I enjoyed this story, it reminded me of Ouran High School Host Club but in a good fun way.
I give this manga a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money. -
This was a wonderful surprise - from the plays on the tropes of shoujo romance to the combination of humor and sweetness, this is easily one of my favorite new manga of 2018.

So this it totally in that 4.9/5 star category for shojo goodness if you're looking for some new-ish manga. I'm fresh off reading Nikki Asada's other shojo series, The Heart Break Club and wanted more from this mangaka. So this series does borrow from the typical genre tropes like other reviews on here have noted, such as the rich boy, commoner girl, love triangle and high school life tropes but breathes a fun story here with them with her characters. What I learned of Asada's work from The Heart Break Club is that she can craft characters that are likeable and throw them in hilarious situations with fun quirks and personalities. The Prince's Romance Gambit is so incredibly fun to read and I was game for the next volumes in the series. Pick this one up if you're a shojo/shoujo fan and want something new-ish!

I liked this! As with nearly all first volumes I'm not IN IT yet but I enjoyed the read. I liked the 'will she fall for the doting prince who is overly affectionate or the darker quiet in the background friend who has depth and hidden feelings' angle. Predictions! She ends up with friend after socially awkward prince realizes he's not truly in love with her and only excited at the new experiences.
3 affectionate male leads out of 5 quiet aloof dark haired boys -
Oooh, this was actually super awesome! The protagonist, Koume, is the type who stares incredulously at tropes and laughs in the face of randomly falling roses and so on, and it's GREAT! She (along with Hatsuyuki, the "prince" and love interest) make for some really hilarious moments. This book was a quick, funny, entertaining read and I would totally recommend it! 5 stars. I picked it up on a whim for 99 cents, and it was so worth it!

A perfect prince and a normal girl, It’s a classic shoujo trope. The male lead gives is very robot like which makes it a little difficult to relate to him. The second male lead on the other hand is who I’m rooting for. I feel like he has more depth and is a better match for her. It’s still a cute story though.
-
There were things I enjoyed, and things I didn’t. And it looks like future books delve into two Tropes I dislike: love triangles and the Other Woman who’s actually the hero’s fiancée (?!). So I don’t think I’ll be continuing.
-
This was so cute! I normally *hate* series where the popular boy falls in love with the plain Jane but because it never took itself seriously, it really worked for this manga. I'll be checking out the 2nd volume in the future!

Fun
I read the first few chapters of this month's ago. So cool to see it got licensed. It's as funny as I remember it being. Looking forward to volume two. -

Yes, it's over-the-top silly, but super cute. Fans of Shojo manga will find this series simply adorable. I can't wait to read more! Off to buy volume 2 ...

Typical reverse harem nonsense at the end of the day....

hilarious
This was honestly super funny. The main girl is just trying to live her life when the prince shows up and shoves his way into her quiet life. -
