audio book edition-
This was an interesting story. I liked Stephanie and her desire to do good in the world. But something was missing. It took me a while to get use to the narrator too. She read so matter of factly and with out emotion. Overall, i did like the book but i didn't love it. It's interesting enough to see where this series goes.

This book is cool as it has a female lead and she has similar traits to me. She's full of rage and feels hurt, so it kind of hits home. I'm usually a horror writer and reader, but this was pretty hard to put down. I'm a believer of the supernatural and this kind of fits the bill when it comes to my beliefs. I really do hate to spoil the plot, so you just have to read it yourself. I will say that this is a book 2 to come for sure as I can tell from the thrilling ending. What I liked about Fury was that I could easily see myself in the MC's situation or actually, I was to a certain degree. With all the symbolism in the book, I felt I was going back to a time where I was surrounded by the supernatural. Anyway, an excellent read and I hope R.E. Sargent continues with a book two!
Did I mention, I loved the book? If not, there you go! -
Let me preface this review by stating I rarely give out five stars. A novel needs to be genre-busting, life-changing, or otherwise outstanding to be rated five-stars. How else can we identify the real standouts if average, or slightly above average, books are all rated at the top of the rating scale? A four-star novel needs to be either unputdownable or so good it sticks with me for a long time. A three-star novel is a good book that has an excellent plot, minimal or no errors, and that I would be willing to recommend to a friend. In other words, in my opinion, a three-star review is a good review.
My review of Fury: The Awakening:
This was a solid 3.5 star read.
The positives:
The story was well executed and a nice take on time-travel similar to the old series Quantum Leap (Yeah… I’m that old).
The finale built tension and was difficult to put down during the last few chapters.
The characters were likeable and relatable.
The writing itself was relatively error free and, although not complex, didn’t make me feel like I was “down”.
The basic structure of the story flowed extremely well.
There was a smattering of romance, a dash of suspense, and a bit with a dog. Overall it was a fun read and certainly worth checking out.
The negatives:
There were a few continuity problems with the story but, if you simply write them off to time travel, they can be overlooked.
The story was placed in Oregon and, as resident of the State, there were some geographical and location errors that drove me a bit crazy. If you’re not from Oregon, you probably wouldn’t even notice.
The dialogue was a bit strained, and unrealistic, at times but overall it was okay. The old Elmore Leonard saying, “If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it,” could have been employed. Many of the conversations left me saying to myself, “People just don’t talk like that.”
Final conclusion:
This was an above average story, by an above average author, and an interesting take on a common trope. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to people that I know that are looking for a fast, fun, and generally entertaining read. I don’t round up so, although I rate this a 3.5-star novel, 3-stars. -
What started as a very seemingly normal book quickly took a turn for the paranormal. Stephanie is a relatable character with sorrows, goals, flaws, and quirks. When she finds her finance cheating on her, she’s determined to never lay her eyes on another man. Instead, she decides to throw herself into a project. That’s when she notices an old abandoned house. Swooping in on the opportunity, she coerces the owner’s lawyer into selling it to her.
Warily, he tells her that the owner insisted that no one else live in the house. Stephanie quickly learns why.
The ups and downs of this story were fascinating and left me to ponder what exactly I would do if I had the power to change things for the better. Just like Stephanie, I would ponder the idea of whether to keep it small or to do big things to make the world a better place.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. -
2.5
Fury: The Awakening....or Fury: Birth Of a Failed Vigilante as I would rename it. Good lord, I was pretty much bored for the entirety of this audio book. By the end, I was listening to it at 1.5x normal speed, something that pretty much destroys the listening experience (which would have been fine otherwise) and also something I generally never do. But I just wanted to be done.
The book started strongly, with the main character finding out her fiance is cheating on her and responding appropriately. But after that it took a sharp left into blands-ville. She buys the house and the reader sits through chapter after chapter of her fixing everything up. *Yawn*
Then the Quantum-Leap style time/space hops start and the reader sits through the endless tedious details of her figuring everything else, going on hops, learning to shoot, fight, etc, and then going on one last big hop before everything comes to an end. There's no over-arcing story line to make this interesting. It's just a progression of this happened, and then this happened, and then this happened until the end.
And the reader never even learns the story behind the original owner of the house or how the house because the gateway (or whatever) it apparently is. It's all just dropped. All in all, the writing is fine (though the author sucks at writing female-female dialogue) but I was, as I said, bored by the story. -
The tells a story of a woman buying a house, once she moves in her life is changed forever. Things start happening that just can’t be explain Stephanie wondering just what is happening and why, what has started these weird encounters? Just why is she taken to place and what is her job, the author gives some interesting twist and turn, danger and more. The plot is very good, the author uses way to many fillers with that in mind he lost me so many times. I do not need every move or every detail given to me, I don’t need to know how the trip to the grocery store went, she went which is great but then I don’t need to know that she didn’t shop but went to the pick and how wonderful that was in detail. The whole book is filled with this which leaves time for the mind to wonder which it does. Besides that I don’t have an issues with the author and thought he gave a very interesting plot.
The narrator does a great job, there are a lot of places where she pauses and doesn’t need to which leave the story hanging and feels like the sentence is not complete, than picks up which does take away from the flow of the story. Beside that I thought she did a wonderful job, giving true emotion, thought her character voices were really nice, you know who is talking and what they are feeling. She does give the story passion, there are no volume changes, no repeating of words,
I give the author a three star and narration 4 start. -
I like the premise. I was waiting for something epic-ly bad to happen the entire time, because that's what we've all learned always happens when you mess with time, but no.
I would have liked to know that in advance so I could enjoy the story. Nothing epic-ly bad happens. You're welcome. -
This book is way to slow. By chapter nineteenth was just not going any were. Eventually have up on it😣

Stephanie has always dreamed of the perfect life, with a great husband, kids and the house with the picket fence. That dream is shattered when she walks in on her fiance' in flagrante with another woman. In an effort to clear her head, Stephanie takes a drive and stumbles upon an old, abandoned house that really calls to her. Further investigation reveals that the owner had died many years ago and, without any surviving family, left the house to his lawyer. Stephanie contacts the lawyer and expresses her interest in the property. At first the lawyer resists since the prior owner had made him promise to never sell the house, but once Stephanie assures him that she will indeed demolish the house, he agrees to sell. Life is good for Stephanie...until she sees a news piece about vandalism at the local library and the fury burns within her...then she's suddenly at the library just as the culprits have been their mischief. Once she puts a halt to the misdeed, she is returned to her house. Stephanie quickly realizes that she can go back in time and change the outcome of events, and she is thrilled that her life can finally have a purpose. But can she keep this up before her vendetta against crime becomes deadly...and will she survive?
This book will keep you engrossed until the very end...and leave you wanting more. What will become of Stephanie's new love interest? Guess we'll have to read the next book to find out.

From page one the novel wormed its way into my endless curiosity and gripped hard on my love for on-the-edge writing. It didnt let go. I felt as if I were Stephanie, feeling her hurt and rage (although, I would have sold the rings ;-) ), as her world shattered, and her excitement and determination as she created her new realist with gusto. I leaned over and pet my dog as Stephanie pet Bella, experiencing the same bond. As things heated up with the subtle foreshadowing, I became more and more intrigued. Still I felt as Stephanie; smelling the trees, feeling the cold, seeing the beauty and then the floor dropping from reality. My own anger grew with hers at injustice and fear. Although our perspectives parted ways, her experiences were played out with engrossing detail. I am not a fan of reviews giving away more details than the blurb so I will not tell you why you will love the supernatural mystery, the raw emotions, or the captivating ending but I will tell you this novel will not disappoint you! On the contrary, it will leave you wanting more!!
I also want to mention that I seldom see a cover that so perfectly fits a novel as this one! The cover (as you can see) begs you to read the book with a caveat...danger lies within and you will be on the edge of your seat long after you turn the last page!
Well done R.E. I look forward to book two! -

Author R.E. Sargent brings with his second venture into the literary world a strong female protagonist, Stephanie. Tired of being stepped on by the world she decides to focus on herself and get her life in order. With this she discovers an old dilapidated house away from everything. She commits to reviving the house and making a home for herself. After moving in, she discovers that the house has granted her a strange new ability to change the world for the better fueled by her fury. For fans of Koontz, you'll find this book warm and cozy. This suspense/thriller had me turning the pages right up to the very end and wanting more! I highly recommend this to anyone looking for their next page turner. -
**BETA READER**- I was so excited to read this book. It certainly did not disappoint. It was difficult to put down, and the main character, Stephanie, is a strong woman who finally takes matters in her own hands, and finds purpose, starting with remodeling her home. I’m not going to say anymore, I don’t want to spoil it. However, the ending leaves the door wide open for her next adventure. A highly recommended read for suspense lovers, with a touch of romance! Thank you!
