It's taking me longer than usual to get back to the series after absolutely loving the forst one but feeling Luke warm for the second. Unfortunately I did the same with this one. It's not a bad series but just don't seem to have that little extra. Might continue though as it started to get interesting by the end of this

I love how each book has a weird and unique story and ending each time. I can't wait to read the complete series.

4.5 Stars... Lily literally finds herself having an out of body experience when she is the unfortunate victim of a brutal car jacking... Danielle races to save her best friend and finds herself in the middle of another murder mystery etched with family betrayal... With the help of Walt, Ian, and Lily, Danielle figures out the clues and avoids the inside of a prison cell once again... With a great mix of humor, mystery, and romance, Bobbi Holmes gives her readers another fun and thrilling read:)

  • Emmalynn

Not a bad one, good at least the chief knows Dani’s secret. Joe is a total tool 🙄🙄 ughhh

  • Elza (Elzasbokhylla)

The Ghost Who Wasn’t by Bobbi Holmes
    Rating: 4.5 stars
    Trigger Warning: murder
Things don’t stay quiet for long in Danielle Boatman’s life. A local heiress goes missing while she’s attending her cousin’s Cheryl’s funeral. Shortly after that her best friend, Lily goes missing. Questions surround both girls disappearances and Danielle gets a visit from Lily in a ghostly form. Except she’s not quite a ghost yet. Plus, throw in some unsavory house guests and Danielle racing against a clock to prove that Lily isn’t dead.
I’m still in love with the paranormal aspect of this series. At this point, it’s obvious that Walt likes Danielle and even though he’s a ghost I keep waiting for some kind of romance to blossom between the pair. I also like that this story centers on Lily for a good part of it. Lily is a major character in the two previous books but I feel like we don’t get to hear from her enough in those books.
The problems I found with this book aren’t necessarily with the writing. I don’t like the narrator for the audiobooks (which I picked up the audiobook instead of the ebook this time). The narrator’s voice is fine until she does a voice for any female character. She does the type of high pitch, annoying voice for the female characters that makes me want to slap them for their voice alone. Furthermore, the only issue I have with the plot of these books is that they are very predictable. You can figure out who’s quilty from a mile away.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to continue the series. It’s an excellent continuation of a light mystery series. Again I would recommend it to anyone who likes paranormal ghost stuff like I do.

This third book in the Haunting Danielle series had several ghostly apparitions, some vicious criminals, and a missing heiress. While I enjoyed the book, I was furious over the entire part where horrible people try to sell the dog Sadie to be used as bait in dog fights. Every person involved in watching, betting, or any part of animal fights should be stripped, thoroughly thrashed, chained up and left in the desert; I hope there's a special place in hell for them all.

  • Emily Stiffler

As usual, these books are easy to read and fun. I love the murder mystery aspects and how they are different in each of these books!

  • Monika

Surprised this book series has published so many. Sure, there are several (oddly connected) murder mysteries, however they aren't that well written or thought out. Plus, these books are incredibly misogynistic. How have so many books in this series been published?
Shocking how dimissive of animal cruelty the author is, as well as portraying the police officer characters as being violent, judgemental, close-minded, misogynistic, and generally incompetent and callous.

  • Laura Porto

Just what I needed - a fun light read.

So far, every book has been better than the previous, which is unusual. Most of us look forward to a sequel, but don't expect it to be better than the first. This series seems to be the exception for me.

In the previous year, Danielle Boatman has lost her husband, but found he was cheating on her. The pain of this betrayal has her selling the company they started and looking for a new start. It doesn't help that she can see ghosts who haven't moved on. However, she finds her new start in an unexpected inheritance from a Great Aunt by marriage, The Marlowe House. But Marlowe house comes with secrets and the town, a wide variety of characters. The main character is Walt Marlow, a Ghost, excuse me, a spirit (Walt does not like the term ghost) who died in his own attic at the age of 25. He has decided he doesn't want to "move on" to the next part of his journey. There's a touch of romance in the air, but where can a Spirit and a live woman's relationship go?

In this episode, Danielle's best friend Lily is missing. But she's not the only one. A local heiress is missing. But when the heiress is found at a California rest area, attacked and left for dead, Lily suddenly shows up at Marlowe house as a ghost. Danielle is heartbroken and determined to find out what happened to her best friend. But a chance encounter with a large mirror shows a faint image of Lily, but how? ghosts don't have a mirror image. Could it mean that Lily isn't dead? Where is she? Then, while asking questions of the ghosts' in the cemetery, Danielle stumbles upon the dead body of the heiress. If the heiress is really dead, who is the woman being treated at the mansion?

    A Multi-Layered Ghostly Mystery

I enjoyed listening to this audiobook. This is only the third story I’ve experienced written by Bobbi Holmes but I like her cosy writing style. The pace of this tale was steady and I enjoyed how Bobbi revealed the new characters’ personalities and plot threads to us as the story progressed. Although The Ghost Who Wasn’t is the third story in the Haunting Danielle series, I don’t think you have to have listened to the first one before starting this adventure.

I enjoyed going back to Marlow House and getting to know the folks of Fredericksport better.
Our protagonist, Danielle Boatman, continues to exhibit many of the personality traits that I love. She’s an intelligent woman, whose curiosity sometimes leads her into dangerous situations. However, Danielle isn’t fool-hardy and I love her kind-heartedness and determination.

There are lots of supporting characters in this series, showcasing lots of different personalities and complexities.
Some are regular features, while others just make an appearance as part of the current story. Danielle’s bestie, Lily, has quite the adventure in this book and I liked how it affected her character.

Oh my goodness! How can this series get better with each book? The characters are so real and that includes.... the ghosts. Danielle Boatman, the protagonist in this series, is a widow who has inherited a manor, Marlow House, in Oregon from a great aunt. It comes with Walt, a resident ghost, who died in the house 90 years ago. It's interesting to see Walt's character evolve along with his powers. Danielle can see spirits and converse with them and this helps in solving mysteries.

This book was especially interesting. An heiress has disappeared. Danielle gets a call from her friend Lily's mother: Lily was in a terrible accident and the police recovered her body so badly burned that she could not be identified. But something isn't right. Lily is a very slow careful driver and she was supposedly driving 100 miles per hour prior to the accident. Then Lily appears at Marlow House and uh oh, Danielle can see dead people. Lily doesn't seem to actually be dead, though no one else can see her. This book has twists and turns and the reader has a glimmer of what's going on from the first few pages of the story that don't appear to have anything to do with it.

This series has been very carefully crafted! Love it!

The Ghost Who Wasn’t (Haunting Danielle Book 3) Bobbi Holmes, Anna J. McIntyre, Elizabeth Mackey (40 chapters) Oct 16-17, 2020

The third book in the series put Danielle best friend Lily front and center. And what a doozy this story is.

It starts out a little creepy and scary, but turns into a real page turner. When Lily goes missing, another girl turns up dead. But what happened to Lily? Then the ghost of Lily shows up and Danielle starts to question what really is going on. To make matters more interesting, a newlywed couple shows up and Walt is suspicious immediately. What are their real motives for coming to the B&B?

This is my favorite book so far in the series. The author hit is out of the park on this one. A very enjoyable read, that hooked me in after the first scary part and held me tight until the very end.

Also in this story, a character from past books starts to become more front and center as a confident to Danielle.

    Five stars!

Book 1 of this series: it's a little cheesy, but I need some kind of mystery series and this one isn't egregiously racist/sexist so far
Book 3: I AM SO INVESTED IN THESE CHARACTERS. YJOU'VE GOTTA SAVE LILY, DANIELLE

This series keeps getting better! This installment actually started with action and intrigue, unlike the first two where the author took more time setting up the characters and their situations before dropping the mystery into our hands. My one criticism of The Ghost Who Wasn't is that having the villains as viewpoint characters led the reader to solve the mystery long before Danielle. But obviously I care about the characters now, so I'm in it for the long haul.

I’m so fickle. This is better than the previous book, but this time I’m rounding down. The characters are really growing on me. The secondary characters are sounding more real. It’s a fun, light summer read. A few good twists. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

On the downside, one coincidence was just too prominent, even though it was laid out at the start. And danger is averted before it gets too out of hand.

If you like a certain club owner in New Orleans or a certain short-lived-radio-host in Salem then you should grow into liking these stories.

Now let me get the next in the series...

  • Danielle Powell

This book had a plot line that kept me more engaged that the previous books, but I suppose that may be because I’ve grown fond of the main characters and couldn’t wait to find out how the story worked itself out in the end. Still, an over abundance of repetition, and I’m beginning to wonder if the author’s editor even reads the books or just skims over them. That said, this was the best book of the series so far. Can’t wait to read the next installment.

  • Kim Loomer

The blurb on the cover really does say it much better than I can about this book. I don't know how Bobbi Holmes pulls off making the next book better than the last but when I start these book I can't and don't want to put them down. These books make me laugh and cry and laugh again and take me on the best mysteries I have read in years. I recommend these books to anyone who loves a good mystery with very believable characters.

  • Roberta

These are fun books and if you like a light-hearted book in the 'cozy mystery' genra, you would probably enjoy this series. I enjoy all of the characters and find the stories fun and goofy if not always believable. Of course, the first thing that you will need to work past is that the heroine can see and communicate with ghosts, so if you are okay with that you should go for it!
I definitely plan to continue with the series!

  • Morgan Mayberry

I thought the books were kind of cheesy at first, but it seems I've read 3 of them in one week; I'm not sure how that happened (cozy mystery is not usually my cup of tea). The characters do grow on you and it's easy to get involved in the story. The books do get better as the series progresses. My main complaint in the first book was the unnatural dialogue, which is still a problem, but it seems to be getting better- or I just enjoy the series more now so it's not as big of an issue.

  • Sanna

Binge worthy book. I experienced a whole array of emotions during this one. I went through everything from wanting to slap some of the characters and then squealing from joy.

Still, despite some of the darker themes, a really heartwarming story. I absolutely love Danielle's and Walt's chemistry.

I usually have issues with readers who "act", but this reader does it with such a perfect balance that I don't mind. But I still wish Storytel would also have the ebooks as well.

  • Dr. Simone J. Simone

    Another Fantastic Book

In the previous book, I was aggravated at Danielle for being such a spineless woman. Apparently her spine has strengthened at least a little. This story had quite a twist that became a shocker that kept me practically breathless with tension. Some of these ruffians are vicious! Now I want to see what other frightening adventures await Danielle.

  • A.M. Cummins

This has been my favorite book so far in the Haunting Danielle series. I appreciated Bobbi Holmes letting the reader in on some of the subplots before Joe and Brian had it figured out.

The relationship between Danielle and Walt continues to grow and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I would hate to see Danielle heartbroken after everything she has been through.

    OK...on to the next book!

Bobbi Holmes has become one of my favorite authors

I love the Haunting Danielle series by Bobbi Holmes. Once I start reading it is hard to put it down. I am currently on Book 4 and will read the complete series. I like a good read with a ghost in it and I like a good mystery. This series of books have both a mystery and ghosts. I recommend this book series.
