It was supposed to be one wild night with my friend—a fiercely sexy chef.
Now I can’t stop thinking about her.
Can’t stop craving her flavor.
And that was before I found out our no-strings night resulted in two little pink lines.
As the number one Winger for the Seattle Sharks and the last man standing in our bad-boy trio, the only lines I’m familiar with are red and blue.
But while hockey is my life, Jeannine branded herself on my heart. She’s in so deep I couldn’t cut her out even if I wanted to.
What do I want? Everything.
She wants to do this on her own—she’s never needed a man. The little bundle swelling her gorgeous body isn’t going to change that.
I’ve got three months to change Jeanine’s mind—to prove I’m ready to trade the nightlife for dad-life, but for once, my reputation off the ice isn’t helping me score the girl. The harder I try, the higher she builds her walls.
The thought of losing them both is more terrifying than a career-ending injury.
Our clock is running down, and if I can’t prove that I’m all-in for her and our baby, our chance at forever will end in a shut-out.
This time I’m playing for keeps.

This book made me really angry. I REALLY hate it when authors write books where the woman feels she has the right to prevent a father from having any access to his child. Unless a father is abusive or is otherwise a danger to his child, he has EVERY RIGHT to be able to have an equal parenting role and equal access to that child.
It is clearly stated in the book that they were two very similar people- both happy to have no strings sex on the regular. Neither wanted to be tied down - they were both busy, successful and driven professionals. They both went into the one night stand on the same page. But then she gets pregnant and suddenly she is responsible and worthy and she feels she can shut him out of the baby’s life until he PROVES himself????? WTF?! Just no!!
She even says at one point that the baby is as much his as hers, but then continues to exert her ‘ownership’ of the baby. Even when she thinks he’s out with someone else she says that she is enough for the baby. Again WTF?! Even if their relationship didn’t work - HE STILL HAS THE RIGHT TO PARENT AND HAVE EQUAL CUSTODY OF HIS CHILD.
I just cannot express enough how much this crap makes me angry. Children are not pawns - and mothers don’t have the right to use them as such.
The bad editing was a bit annoying as well. For example, where I come from the word ‘drug’ is medication (either legal or illegal) it is not the word used instead of ‘dragged’. Plus many other spelling/grammar errors.
This book made me dislike Jeannine very much - I couldn’t warm to her at all. Also, it seems that getting pregnant by accident is a theme in this series, and I’m pretty sure the % of pregnancies whilst on birth control is a LOT lower in real life than amongst the people in these books.
I don’t think I can bring myself to read anymore of this series. -
Another great one!
The 3rd in the series did not disappoint! I loved the story and the expressions of adoration!! Can’t wait for the next one!! -
I really enjoyed this installment of the Sharks. Warren thought he knew what he wanted until the unexpected was thrust upon him. And boy did he embrace it! *insert swoon here*! When Jeannine went off the rails and left, I was so mad. And then I remembered back to the first couple of months after I had my kids; how the crazies run rampant. So glad she realized what was happening and made it right. I have read all of Samantha Whiskey's work and she has quickly become one of my favorite authors!!!

Took me awhile to remember the characters and what the series was about. This wasn't a great read, but not the worst either. Both characters were similar in terms of their life views. Both looking for nothing serious or involving commitment of any kind. All that changes when Jeannine finds out she's pregnant. There was a lot of back and forth and as usual no communication. That should have been the title of this book: A Lack of Communication.
-
I absolutely loved this book, it's the third in the series the first two being Grinder and Enforcer and this one was the best so far. It had everything from second chance to slow burn to miscommunication. It even only had the two being apart for a very short period of time. I really loved this book and I thought Jeanine and Warren were such a great match. I had been super excited to read Jeanine's story because she was the best out of the friend group from the first two and her story did not disappoint. There couldn't have been a better match-up for her than Warren who surprisingly actually listened to his friends when they spoke to him. In the first two books the guys were kind of like yeah yeah I get it but Warren actually listened and used their advice. He was just so sweet and kind and just an utter gentleman. Their story just made so much sense and was so good. It also did the same as the first two and allowed for the other characters to be involved in a great light that didn't diminish their own happy endings. I also really like how the author, Samantha Whiskey, slowly brought in the Rookie (Bentley) so that the next book being his story isn't at all a surprise. She has this great way of slowly looping in characters so that it's not at all surprising which book will be next. All in all I just really liked this book so I give it 5 stars! - Hannah

✅ pregnancy trope
✅ forced prox/roommates
✅ friends to lovers
✅ second chance
I genuinely loved this way more than the first and second book. I wonder why though….. 😏😅
If you know me I’m a huge sucker for the pregnancy trope. I was thoroughly surprised and really enjoyed the story, plot and characters.
Jeannine… she’s a badass fmc who is a chef and has multiple restaurants. Every single time one of her friends called her by her nickname, which is nine. My brain just instantly thinks of Brooklyn 99, and the squad yelling “nine nine.” So that was annoying.
Warren, he’s known as a player on the Sharks. The chemistry they both have together, is absolutely perfect. I like how Jeannine, Paige and Bailey all have checklists. But since Jeannine is known as the fiery one in their friend group. Her checklist is going on cute wholesome dates 🥺😭😭 While Paige and Bailey had fun spicy things on their lists lol.
I dislike how he found out Jeannine was pregnant. But once he found out, he really wanted to step up and be there for Jeannine and the baby. Which was soooo cute. The way they called the baby, “baby ball”
Again at the 80% they have a disagreement and “break up” oh no, the break up act again. One of the reasons was because she’s very pregnant and hormonal. So she’s yelling at him for not being there all day. When it was his day off to spend with his friends. That conflict got solved quickly and he makes up for that by showing up for her. -
Absolutely loving these Sharks. I love this series and it just gets better and better. Jeannine & Warren are smokin hot and there chemistry is off the charts. What was suppose too be a one night stand turned into something they both never expected. With a baby on the way and insecurities Warren will have to prove that they belong together. Warren will definitely make you swoon and will definitely become your next sexy AF book boyfriend. Another amazing read that once I started reading I didn’t want too put my kindle down.
I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy of this book

They were cute and while at least in this book the pregnancy serves towards the plot from the beginning I would have loved if they're relationship could have been not based around it. I also feel like the miscommunication(a.k.a big fight) in this book felt forced and out of place and wholly unnecessary.

❤️❤️❤️❤️
💋💋
Fun and enjoyable read ,
Nine and Warren must deal with their own trust issues if they ever want to make a go of being a proper family for their baby.
Great book and addition to the series x -
I kind of liked book one and book two, but this was pure shit. If my partner acted like Jeannine, they would be out on there ass or heavily medicated. Having a baby does NOT excuse acting like self serving cow. I only finished this book because like I have stated in my other reviews, I do not like to stop half way through a book, but I nearly put this one down and in the trash. I do not recommend this book and I will not be continuing with this series.

🏒 sports romance
🤰🏻 unplanned pregnancy
😮💨 friends to lovers
✨ 3 month trial dating
🧍♂️ bad boy rep mmc
👩🏻💻 career driven fmc
😤 both scared of commitment
🌶️ not the spiciest but starts wild
jeanine was always the fun and chaotic™️ friend, always looking to do fun things and never looking to settle down. warren? another seattle sharks player, he can’t see himself with one lady for the rest of his life. which makes their one special night perfect, a no strings attached, fun and spicy time before warren keys off to canada 🇨🇦 for 6 months to compete in the olympics. he comes back home to a pregnant nine and convinced her to try them out for 3 months so he can prove to her this is it for him 💨
— thoughts/spoilers
so it’s the way that i don’t really change the prompts up top ⬆️ lolz
so truly every story is the same formula, this one was a bit interesting bc of the unplanned pregnancy 🤰🏻
warren was pretty swoony at times but the lAck of communication between the main characters is agonizing to me
like why are third act breakups a thing???? could’ve been avoided if we just talked things out amirite
anyways, the books (i feel) get marginally better but never outstanding. might read about the rookie or another unplanned pregnancy book (it’s the latter, mazey eddings i’m coming for you and lizzie) -
The third book in this series was quite enjoyable. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Jeannine, since she is by far, the wildest of the bunch. Or at least, that is how she is portrayed in the previous books....in my opinion anyways. ;). We really didn’t know much about Warren from the previous books either, so I was looking forward to learning more about both of these characters. It is definitely an adventure, neither one expected to be on, that’s for sure!!
I totally fell for Warren. He really stepped it up and surprised me at every turn. Jeannine, on the other hand, made me want to smack her. But I guess that’s what happens sometimes when you don’t have the best of parents. Plus, these two really needed better communication skills. Thank goodness they find their voices and get their crap together!! Hahaha
It’s also great to see they previous couples and their growing families. Jeannine was right in recognizing that this is the “Family” they chose to be a part of. And what a beautiful family it is!!
Very fun read. Now I need to learn more about this Rookie!! ;) -
I know we all melt watching a bad boy flip a switch and turn into a loving dad but three unplanned pregnancies in the same group of friends feels like a bit much and kind of repetitive. I’m not against couple endings including kids but the baby being a plot device over and over again was kind of getting old. And I think I just didn’t imagine the same type of story for Warren and Jeannine too. After the first two books Jeannine had so much potential to be a great heroine but instead she just kind of fell flat at best, or was annoying at worst. I adore seeing the guys support each other, and I’m trying to not be unfairly harsh towards the girls but I feel like the story just didn’t do justice to Jeannine with what we know about her in the first two books.
-
This was like Tucker and Sabrina for Elle Kennedy’s “The goal” but make it adult, quicker, a little bit spicier and a downfall of only 2 chapters 😏
Also, the fact that you only read the last 3 months of the pregnancy was such a smart move from the author.
In other words, an amazing story if you enjoy at least a bit pregnancy trope. -
This is the third installment of the romance sports series about the Sharks, a professional hockey team, by Samantha Whiskey. Both Warren and Jeannine were friends and had the same set of friends whom are now married– their stories appear in Grinder (Gage and Bailey, book 1) and Enforcer (Rory and Paige, book 2). I so enjoy books in a series where characters are revisited and you learn where they are now in their lives, and each of these characters are featured again in Winger!
Warren and Jeannine both didn’t want to get in a serious relationship. He was focused on his career as a winger on a professional hockey team, and she was a chef who owned three restaurants that took up most of her free time. They both were very flirtatious for over a year after they spent time more together at their friends’ weddings and at social events that followed. Through the writing, it was obvious they were very attracted to each other and I was pleased when the finally acted on it because I really liked the two of them together.
Their one night union resulted in a pregnancy and Jeannie decided not to tell Warren which I didn’t like (in all fairness he was away playing hockey for the Canadian Olympic team, but she could have called…but then the story wouldn’t not have unfolded the way it did and would have been over in a chapter so I get it). They both stated they did not want children or a serious relationship when they were together, so she avoided him and all the social gatherings that she normally would have attended when he returned because she didn’t want him to feel obligated. When he learns of the pregnancy, he is immediately excited and supportive. She is obviously relieved, because even though she thought this wasn’t what she had originally wanted or planned, she was in love with her child and very committed to being a good mom, with or without the father’s participation.
The last quarter of the book is very romantic and sweet and Warren proves over and over that he has fallen in love with Jeannine. She knew he was a “playboy” before, and he lets her know without a doubt that she is the only one for him and that he hadn’t been with anyone else but her since their one night together. I loved how they were friends first which is so important in any romantic relationship. As a reader, you really route for the two of them to be together which isn’t always the case in some books.
I really liked Warren; he was respectful, honest, funny, genuine, dedicated, sexy, and very charming. I admired Jeannine, too. She was a smart career woman who was only trying to protect her heart and friendships. Even though she is ambitious, after being with Warren she realizes she does love him unconditionally and can have it all, a family and a career. He is very supportive of her career too, and they work together to make all of their dreams come true. It’s not easy and his career demands a lot of time away from home, but they make it work. After a lot of angst, fun times, and sexy times, they finally get their happy ending and a beautiful family. -
The Seattle Sharks Men are back! These beasts on and off the ice have taken on many evil goons in their time, but matters of the heart are a different story, body checks, fancy footwork and a hockey stick won't fix them!
Warren is going to need all the assists he can get from his buds and teammates when one night with Nine, chef extraordinaire~throws his heart and mind into the penalty box he's not sure he wants back out!
Oh, my! I did not realize how much I had missed The Sharks!
This book was all heat and chemistry, emotions going haywire light hockey sports romance.
Plenty of angst weaved throughout, between the very stubborn Jeannine A.k.A Nine - *who I have to say, had I been her friends... Eh, I would have had a harsher heart to heart with- * And goes all in Warren!
I was all in for the engaging " gonna get by with a little help from my friends" festival of feels, and it's heart-melting please step over my puddles of awe I want that swoony-ness! * Fans Self*
Has me in the mood to go back and revisit Gage & Bailey ( Grinder Seattle Sharks Book #1 ) Rory & Paige's ( Enforcer, Seatle Sharks Book #2) stories!
I highly suggest checking out this book, and the other stand alone's about these all alpha stubborn hockey players, and the women who bring them down to their knees! -
I hold so much hatred for Jeannine its not even funny. Her single attempt to contact him when she found out she was pregnant? Pathetic. Her expectations of him when she was useless? mean. And her taking his freaking child away from him just because she has no communication skills? Hateful. Her character ruined the book for me. If I were Warren, I literally wouldn't have gotten back with her. Everyone said that he needed to go get her, but fuck, Jeannine needed to grovel for him. Pregnancy hormones do not excuse being a literal awful human being. he kept saying "I can handle you", but damn, do you want to? should you have to?
This couple makes the top ten list of 'they don't stay together after the book'. -
I've read a lot of hockey romance. This book was a similar storyline as all the rest. We'll, if you haven't read any hockey romance genre style books then this one is perfect.
As I read Jeannine's independent nature I could appreciate her not wanting to assume Warren was in it with her when he found out the news. I understood the sleep deprived and hormonal fights. It isn't a relaxing book due to the crying but the love is there.
Nice job. -

Meeting the Characters
Warren Kinley
Jeanine
----------------------------------
What happens?
Warren and Jeanine sleep together at a party to celebrate him going to play in the Olympics. 6 months later he returns and finds out Jeanine is pregnant. She is fiercely independent after having a rough childhood so doesn't let him near her but does relent to let him prove himself.
Warren is trying to prove to Jeanine that he doesn't want to be anywhere else and struggles with the fact hes fallen in love with her and is so absolutely smitten with his baby he just wants to be a family.
Final thoughts
This was sweet. I will knock off a point for the way they just have sex without a condom, I know that she had birth control but still... Also a star knocked off for the way hes threatened with being denied access. They both state they don't want children I understand shes giving him the choice but he never even says its my baby I have rights to see the child! Its just accepted that she can stop him seeing her which I could get that threat if he was someone that showed any type of abuse but he doesn't.
Also this book really loses the list and really focuses more on the fact shes pregnant. Its like a major story line and you do see a few dates which are from the list but would be nice to see more.
This all being said I was in love with them and their story and also.
“Fried oreos?”
Timidly, I brought the dessert to my mouth and crunched. The combination of the chocolate cookie and crispy, slightly salty, outer shell was explosive.
I WANT. I WANT. I WANT. Our local chip shops around my area does fried mars bars so this friend oreo is just calling my name. I may suggest that to my husband and see if we can make one!

All books read with KU
Let me start by saying that I did not realize what a big hockey fan I am. Growing up in the South, where it is nothing but sun and sand, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. Seattle Sharks Series was more than just a group of hockey players. They each had story to tell and learn to love in his own way. I think I read all 7 books within about 5 days. They are pretty easy reads. And also addictive. I had to find out what was going to happen next to the guys. And the girls that were in the book.
It starts out as a trio of starters who each has his own issues with women and love. But as they each get hit with the love bug, it seems that matters of the heart will take over the Shark men. As the books develop more we get more stories from secondary characters who all need to be heard too. And the women in the books were a hoot. They had their own rules and the Shark men did not stand a chance.
The Shark men also showed you what it is like to be a family, even if you are not blood related. And how families stick together no matter what.
If I had to choose a favorite book, it would be Bruiser, Book 7, PORTER, Hudson Porter that is. He was this guy that just had a broody attitude but with good reason. He knew what life was life without all the lights and glam of being a NHL player. But when a petite redhead gives him a run for his money, he will do anything just about to show her that he is one of the good guys.
There are currently 7 books in this series but we are left after Book 7 with a sneak peek at the next book, which looks to be another winning shot for Author Samantha Whiskey. -
THIS IS MY FAVORITE BOOK SO FAR! WARREN AND JEANNINE. IT DROVE ME A LITTLE CRAZY NOT KNOWING HOW TO PRONOUNCE HER NAME WHEN I READ IT, THOUGH. THE NICKNAME OF NINE. IS IT LIKE THE NUMBER, OR NEEN. WHICH IS HOW I WOULD IMAGINE THE END OF HER FULL NAME SOUNDS. ANYWAY, I HAVE ALL THE LOVE FOR WARREN. I'M A SUCKER FOR A SILENT H. I'M MUCH MORE OF A SHOWER THAN TELLER MYSELF. I'M NOT A BABY PERSON. I DON'T HAVE ANY, DON'T REALLY LIKE ANY, AND DON'T REALLY LIKE READING ABOUT THEM. THEY ARE A LITTLE BIT OF A CONSTANT WITH THIS AUTHOR, SO FAR. BUT, USUALLY AT THE END OF THE BOOK, SO MEH. THIS BOOK, I WASN'T SURE. I KNEW THE PREGNANCY WAS A BIG PART OF IT. IT DID NOT TURN ME OFF. I FELT LIKE IT WAS RATHER HONEST ABOUT IT. AS FAR AS, NINE THINKING SHE WAS UNATTRACTIVE. AND, WARREN'S CAVEMAN TAKING OVER AND BEING ANIMALISTICALLY ATTRACTED TO HER FOR IT. I LIKED HOW THE AUTHOR WAS HONEST ABOUT THEM BEING TIRED. AND, WORN OUT AND AT WITS END. I FEEL A LOT OF ROMANCE BOOKS, SEEM TO ROMANCE EVERYTHING! THE BIRTH WAS LOVELY, THE BABY SLEEPS AND NEVER CAUSES A FUSS, THE MOTHER NEVER FEELS BLOATED OR UNATTRACTIVE... THE HONESTY PORTRAYED HERE MADE ME APPRECIATE THE BOOK MORE. I READ SOME REVIEWS THAT PEOPLE HAD AN ISSUE WITH SOME OF NINE'S ACTIONS. I FEEL THEY WERE COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE FOR HER SITUATION. MAYBE BECAUSE I FELT A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP TO HER. I CONSIDER MYSELF A VERY SELF CONTAINED WOMAN, WHO CAN TAKE CARE OF HERSELF. I HAVE FOUND MYSELF REACTING THE SAME WAY AS HER IN THE PAST. UNFORTUNATELY FOR ME, I DIDN'T HAVE PREGNANCY OR POSTPARTUM HORMONE'S TO BLAME IT ON. JUST ME BEING CRAZY! LOL

****4.5 Stars for Warren****
I wanted to give this book the same rating with the last 2 sharks but oh my Jeanine.
I know that she's independent but what she was doing to Warren kind of turned me off.
If my baby daddy is as awesome and 100% into it as Warren, I'll learn how to appreciate everything and I'll love the heck out of him. LOL
I really love the series, and I am really sad that I will not be able to finish it cause I only have the audiobooks until book 4 (The Rookie) and I still have more to go but it's not available for us listeners.
I am strongly recommending this book, and if you can - the whole series. It's worth your time!
Thank you author for your wonderful creations. Keep it up!♥ -
Warren and Janine
This was a quick read for me, one I found hard to put down. Warren and Janine were so similar and although that could have worked against them, it allowed them to understand each other on a deeper level. They both had some insecurities to work out in their relationship and their lack of communication didn’t help the eventual blow up. But this wouldn’t be worth reading if there wasn’t something for Warren and Janine to overcome.
Janine and Warren have watched their best friends fall in love and because of that have grown comfortable with each other, as friends. They share a one-night- stand before Warren is set to leave for 6 months to play hockey on the Canadian national team at the Olympics. When he returns 6 months later, he finds out Janine got pregnant and did very little to let him know, thinking he didn’t care. Warren spends the next 3 months trying to show Janine that he wants to be in both her and the baby’s lives.
Warren was so patient and understanding. He loved Janine for awhile, but didn’t want to push her away so he kept it to himself. He didn’t allow Janine to push him away and he was so calm and level headed for most of the book. Janine had a lot of baggage to work through and although she wanted to trust Warren it was hard for her to view him as different than those in her past who had let her down.
I’m so glad these two eventually worked it out. They were perfect together and made an excellent team. I was sad this book had a lot less hockey than the first two books, but it was still a present theme. -
Winger was honestly the book I was most excited to read before starting the Seattle Sharks series. Surprise pregnancy books are my jam on occasion and I was in the mood for one then (spoiler alert though pregnancy is a pretty common theme throughout all of these books). I think the third book took the cliches of the second book and melded it with the realistic nature of the first in a perfect combination. It's in the middle of the spectrum between the two books that are in some ways polar opposites.
When you read the first two books, Jeanine is immediately a standout character from each one. She is the loud, boisterous, fiery best friend of Bailey and Paige who steals any scene she's in. Seeing her on her own adventure in Winger was a long time coming for anyone who has made it this far into the series. We also get to learn more about Warren who was a previously sidelined character that comes into his own in this book.
The book was ridiculously domestic through most of it and featured its fair share of shenanigans as Jeanine and Warren navigate their new relationship. I thought the book had some of the funniest, most witty banter in the series as the duo verbally spar on almost every page. But, at the same time, it was also the most vulnerable and delicate - a counterpart to everything else. It shows a relationship brought together by uncertain circumstances that blossoms in the most unconventional sense. -
They've been hanging out together by proxy as each of their best friends are married to the other's best friends. Both love their careers, the single carefree lives they have, and have no time for relationships or family. Warren is heading to Canada for six months to train and represent Canada in the Olympics while Jeannine aka 'Nine is busy with her successful restaurants and looking to expand to more locations. The night before Warren is to leave, the group are out celebrating, the tequila is flowing, and the two hook up for an intense and wild night together.
Six months later, Warren returns and to his surprise, finds himself face to face with the woman he hasn't been able to stop thinking about, and she's pregnant. Six months pregnant. Here is where the story takes off with 'Nine having to deal with insecurities and trust issues while Warren does everything in his power to prove that he wants to be in her and the baby's lives.
Lots of sexual tension and misunderstandings, and seeing as 'Nine is the original "dirty-girl" of the group of best friends, a good-girl, date-friendly list this time around. There is more of "Rookie" introduced in the story to lead up to his book as well. The dynamics of the friendships in the previous books build up even more, showing the growth of the characters and how much love and relationships have shaped each of them, especially the Rory, making this a good read. -
Absolutely love this one!! I couldn't put it down. I wanted to keep reading to see what happened next.
Warren and Jeannine (Nine) have known each other for a while through their friends (from the first two books!) they have never acted on their attraction to each other. Warren and Nine are very set in their careers and don't want the life their friends have, married with kids. One night there is a party for Warren to head off to the Olympic and things heat up between these two. Warren is gone for six months but all Warren and Nine can think about is each other and getting back to each other. Is the surprise that Nine is caring that has shocked everyone including their friends. Warren and Nine have a hard time commuting to each other. So they don't know how the other feels, but they both are head over heels in love with each other. The problem, neither one wants to say it! Nine has a restaurant business and is trying to open a fourth location, with the help of Warren. The investor wants to met Warren, the problem they just had a major fight. Warren shows up anyway surprising Nine and proposing to her. All Warren wants is Nine to be in his life.
In the epilogue I was hoping we would get to see a few month down the road. But it was nice to see Warren and Nine happy. Warren taking care of things.
