The Children of Gaia won’t stop until every last walking city is destroyed.

The city of Langeles is rubble, resources are dwindling, and storm systems are larger than ever before. The people of Manhasten are in great danger, and they don’t even know it yet.

Life in the city hasn’t changed much in the forty years since Mimi joined her telepathic sisters of The Order of the Eye, but the winds of change are blowing, and their enemy, the Children of Gaia wait in the shadows to turn the city to ash. At the center of it all is one man, a man as ancient as the city of Manhasten itself, a man designated Runner 17. A man who is more then he knows, and maybe the only one who can save the city and the rest of humanity.

Upon Stilted Cities: The Winds of Change (Chronicles of the Great Migration #2) Reviews

Michael Kilman is an extremely talented author. His prose is beautiful, and the imagination he must have to come up with the plot for this book, and the previous in this series, floors me.
I was breathless when I read this, sometimes I had to take breaks because I was too nervous about what was going to happen, I cried, had goosebumps. Amazing read. The evilness is chilling, the heroes multifaceted, the setting imaginative.
I recommend Kilman to everyone, friends, family, workmates, HERE.

I received this book as an ARC, but it has in no way affected my rating. I’m buying it too, because I need it to be mine. :D

This series is simply amazing. I finished book one in a day, and the second book wasn't long to follow. Definitely a page-turner; the prose is eloquent and enticing in such a way that it keeps you hooked from the very first page. I always NEED to know what's next and I just can't stop reading! I very highly recommend this book, and the series as a whole!

    A new old world

If you are old in a new world what do you do? How do you do it?
This is a very interesting book to read. It has no main character, lots of story lines. Will the next book pull things together? Who is 17?
What will we learn from reading this book?

Great continuation of the story. Really engaging characters and a great world I can't wait to read more about!

This second book in the series is a step up from the first book in every way. The characters more fleshed out, the setting is described and brought to life, and the plot is far reaching and important.

So why only three stars? I gave the first book three stars. If this one's better, why does it get the same score?

This book does the first book a disservice. It makes Mimi irrelevant. She has two viewpoint chapters in this one, neither of which add much of value, and is barely mentioned outside of that. Her role could have been completely eliminated and we would have lost nothing of value from this book. So the entire first book becomes mostly irrelevant, because all of the important setting details are in this one. You could start reading the series from Book 2 and lose nothing. The events of Book 1 have almost no bearing on anything important that happens in this one. Even the Order of the Eye is given sufficient explanation here. If anything, any important information from book 1, like Miranda, could have been folded into this second book.

Most of the new characters were interesting and treated well. Runner 17 is the best of these, by far. His character was clearly given a lot more thought than many of the others. Tera Reevas is potentially interesting, but not given enough time. Alexa Turon, one of the main characters and ostensibly the most important to things moving forward is...likeable, but I feel no attachment to her.

I found the slow, introspective moments the most well written and most evocative. The moments of Roderick reflecting on his situation as he wakes up are beautiful.

Ultimately, it's a fun read, with a couple of compelling characters to care about, and an interesting setting. Definitely worthwhile entertainment.

After reading the first book in this series, Mimi of the Nowhere, I became very attached to Mimi and her new friends and lover. I did enjoy all of the new characters the author introduces in this sequel, and it added a lot to the world and plot within the story. I just wished I had gotten more time with Mimi, the original protagonist. Instead, it spends a lot more time with new characters; similar to A Song of Ice and Fire. Despite that, I gained new perspectives and started rooting for new characters. By the end, I definitely wanted to know more.

Good and captivating story, a nice idea of how post-apocalyptic Earth would be.
The introduction of new characters makes it more interesting although at times I missed following more of Mimi. COG seems like a real threat and I'm looking forward to the next books

One issue I have is that the kindle eBook at least is full of typos that kills the immersion at times.
