Fireside Magazine, November 2017 Reviews

I've now read a handful of this authors short stories for the Hugo nominations and this is both weird and dull which is an odd combination. And yes, I know it's only five pages long but I'm including it in this years book count on the basis that I read an entire magazine for one of her others so the freebie counter is my reward. Sue me. I think this would classify as gothic horror in a contemporary setting? Maybe some other artistic mumbo jumbo instead. Either way, let's be honest, you cannot do a lot in five pages... and Prasad doesn't even really try here.

A talking skull, a weird relationship and some artsy fartsy nonsense and you have the entire gist. Either way, I'd better stop writing or my review might be longer than the piece itself. And as a full page of that was in advert form, you can make your own conclusions. Pity as I enjoyed Fandom For Robots and despite being horribly disturbed thought Pistol Grip was well written... this however, doesn't make the cut.

Short (1.4k words), almost vignette-like sweet and wholesome (IMO) story about a kind of horror story relationship. But I thought it was aww....

Richard and I both irritated the other in a way that neither could get enough of, the kind of all-pervasive itch that burned under your skin and made—well, made me wish I‘d get reincarnated alongside him just so I could detest him all over again. .

Anecdótico. Demasiado breve para mi gusto.

Short, sweet-ish, and exactly my brand of weird. What can I say? I'm always a sucker for a good haunting.

  • Pam Winkler

Short and sweet. Very lovely story.
