Hark, It's Me, Ruby Lee! Reviews

It's true, schools require you to be a certain way, and children gradually discover this for themselves. My own daughter was admired by teachers in the younger grades for her outgoing nature, but was eventually told to quiet down in the more senior grades. So this is a good book to encourage children to find their own place in the world; one that suits them just the way they are. And that you will fit in when given the right role and motivation. A fun book with bright and cheerful illustrations.

Lots of lovely alliteration as Ruby Lee learns to channel her special talents into appropriate areas!
Shanahan has created a comedy of errors as brave, energetic Ruby Lee tries to be a school helper. Things don't quite turn out as she had hoped though as she allows her very active imagination to run away with her.

Binny's illustrations are colourful, busy and exuberant. They capture Ruby Lee's character perfectly.

Ruby Lee want to be a messenger monitor at school and when she finally gets the chance her vivid imagination leads her and best friend George Papadopoulos astray. But her work as a litter monitor pays off and Ruby Lee gets the responsibility she craves. Vibrant and busy illustrations and exotic and made up language make this a fun read aloud.
Shortlisted for the 2018 CBCA Book of the Year: Early Childhood

A cute story about celebrating your own unique qualities, and holding true to them. Could perhaps have been told with fewer words, but overall, a lovely read, with a few illustrations devoted to Ruby Lee's enthusiastic imagination.
