12 episodes -- the complete Season Two collection

Meeting Jack was the best thing that ever happened to Channon. The dominant older man gives him confidence, boundaries, discipline, everything Channon needs, and all Channon has to do is be the obedient submissive Jack wants. But Jack's glamorous life in the city is intimidating for a sheltered eighteen-year-old, and Channon can't help worrying that he won't be good enough to keep Jack's interest. Will Jack break things off when he realizes how deep Channon's insecurities run? Or will the older Dom take care of him, the way he's always promised?

Sucked deep into a world of dominance and submission, pain and pleasure, Channon gives himself in willing service to the only man he's ever wanted to call Sir. And Jack? Just might accidentally fall in love.

Where the first season was all steam, this one included lots of feels as well. I love seeing them grow closer and explore not only their Dom/sub relationship but their feelings as well. There were a few things that bothered me .

You learn in this one how deep-rooted Channon's insecurities with self-worth are, which broke my heart. His horrible childhood and parental neglect have developed into not feeling worthy of love or attention, which does bleed into his relationship with Jack. It was hard to read because you just feel horrible for Channon, who is so giving and caring and it's sad to think he feels he deserves nothing. Jack also has some issues, although they haven't been thoroughly revealed yet.

I was somewhat bothered by a few things Jack did to Channon . However, I do overall like Jack and believe he loves Channon. Towards the end, you can truly feel the love and connection between the two. I cannot wait to read Nate's series spin-off and also continue with Channon and Jack's story.

in my defense, i reread this bc ao3 was down

    original review
still embarrassed to add this to goodreads 🙈 even more embarrassed by how invested i am in this series

I really love this story. Channon and Jack just click for me. I love their relationship. Channon just wants to please Jack. He wants to give him whatever he wants. He’s insecure, but Jack can give him the security he craves. Jack also seems to need what Channon can give him. He’s sadistic, but not nearly as bad as Nate. R. J. Moray I love your story. I’ve already bought season three. I hope there’s a season four.

    Hmm...

Still don’t feel like it has much of an end destination.. I don’t know... I skimmed a bit of the book. Maybe I was just too tired... 🙈

Tiredness = incoherency. Sorry to people who’re reading this review and scratching their heads 🙈🙈🙈

Loved this series! Sexy and sweet. I liked that this part had more outside interactions with the MCs. I want more!

  • Mariah

    this series keeps getting better

So I want to give this 3.5 stars because mistakes were made and it really messed with Channon. I still wished that Channon had more of a personality in this series and he could have told Jack how he made him feel instead of Channon feeling like it was all his fault.

Also, although Jack intimated that it was completely over with Nate, he seemed to still have feelings for him and seemed really sad that it was over. I don't know but that makes me uneasy.

I still enjoy the series but there were things that bothered me but I am still going to keep reading because I am sucked in.

For the first half of this book, I didn’t really enjoy myself. It was fine, but missing that spark. Then a bunch of emotional damage critical stuff happened in the middle and I was hooked all over again. Rating 4/5 because the first half was 3/5, and the second half 5/5.

The dynamic between Channon and Jack in Season One did not feel exploitative or abusive despite the extreme gap in experience and confidence between the two.

But in Season Two, they slip into a 24/7 D/s dynamic without ever having any conversations outside the dynamic about their desires and boundaries (i.e., about the overall rules for their relationship, as opposed to specific acts that are or aren’t on the table). Channon continues to have no self-worth and puts 100% of his happiness and self-esteem into Jack’s approval. At many points, the relationship does not feel fully consensual, though I suspect this isn’t the conclusion we’re intended to draw.

I was particularly bothered by how Channon is not allowed to express any specific desires or take any initiative in the relationship without being told it’s “manipulative” and deserving of punishment. The only thing he’s allowed to want is “whatever you want.” He’s given a journal where he can write down specific fantasies but isn’t allowed to ask Jack to read it. This dynamic might be fine if (a) they had ever talked about it as equals to make sure that’s what works for Channon (and it appears it does not, since he keeps trying to ask for specific things), and (b) more crucially, if he wasn’t 18 years old and in his very first sexual relationship. He has zero experience expressing his sexual desires to another person, so giving him zero room to do so (and telling him it's unacceptable behavior) is abusive.

Jack keeps reassuring himself that what they’re doing is consensual because “Channon could leave if he wants” but that’s true only in the most technical sense. Channon has shown that if something happens that he doesn’t like, he’ll blame himself and double down on trying to please Jack. How is someone with his mentality and complete lack of self-worth going to leave the person he’s utterly dependent on for absolutely everything? Having monetary resources is irrelevant if the person will never use them.

I would be struggling with these issues less if this were explicitly a dark romance or if CNC were part of their dynamic. But the problem appears to be more that Moray believes the work has been done to create a consensual environment when in fact it hasn’t. In other words, this is more a problem of execution than of subject matter. The serial nature of the story doesn’t help here, because it requires that every “chapter” include at least one detailed sex scene and leaves little room for the characters to have difficult conversations. Ironically, if Moray weren’t such a good writer the problem probably wouldn’t exist. But she’s so good at using the sex scenes to make character observations that it makes it harder to think of the characters as fantasy figures and suspend disbelief about the precise nature of their relationship.

Despite these issues, I plan to keep reading the series because of the strength of Moray's writing, plus friends have said some of these things improve in future installments.

Edit: Now that I've caught up on the series (through Episode 37), I feel the issues discussed in this review have been addressed and recommend that anyone who enjoyed Season One but was put off by Season Two continue with the series, because Seasons Three and Four are much more in line with what Season One promised than Season Two is.

Once again I took incredibly long to read this and I’m not entirely sure why as Channon is such a sweetheart I don’t think I could ever really have enough of him. There were some really sweet scenes in this Volume and also some great moments of learning - it leaves on a note that a lot more growth is yet to come.

A very important conversation on pineapple as pizza topping (p.145)

    Quote

”At home, Channon piled up the blankets and pillows to make a nest on their sofa…” (p.271)

    NSFW infos (that I remember):
    strict top/bottom dominant/submissive dynamic
    sir/boy
    collaring for scenes
Public sex in sex dungeon (Episode 13)
    Bondage
    orgasm denial
Blindfolded sex with a ‘stranger’ (Episode 16)
    consensual somnophilia (Episode 24)

This series is really good, the way the story develops and how Channon, our sweet boy explore things about himself with the help of his "Sir" Jack, is beautiful. Jack brings out the confidence in him and not just in bed but outside of it as well, the gradual progress of their relationship is fun to read about. Some chapters are so f'ing hot, and some are cute and romantic. I love Thanksgiving chapters personally, now I'll soon pick Crash, which is Jack's friend Nate's book and finish that series before starting season 3. This is a fun read, and I enjoyed it.

This is a very good story and quite lengthy of a boy and his Dom. It continues from Season 1 - and looks like it was a serial before being collected. There is a lot of growth and story here - mixed with some hot BDSM scenes and the evolution of what each guy wants. Very enjoyable!

Bonus: I suspect this has a lot of Scavenger Hunt points 2018 if you are playing that in the MM Group. Just sayin'

  • Paula´s Brief Review

Channon es un ser tan falto de personalidad y tan annoying que consigue que le quites estrellas al libro.

    1st Read = 3 stars + 1 star for good reread = 4 stars

    Jack (36), a self-made billionaire, and a Dom/sadist:
    description

    Channon (18), Jack's sub
    Pin en Guy style

Season 1: The MCs are in a D/s relationship. No feelings are shared. For Jack, this is only a summer fling. For Channon, it's a summer of discovery of who he is and what he really wants. He finds out that he's gay, he's a submissive, and he loses his virginity.

Season 2: The MCs move to Jack's condo in Santa Rita. Jack gets Channon a paid internship at his Fortune 500 company. They continue their D/s relationship, explore a Master/slave relationship, and fall in love. While there's plenty of sexy scenes, there's also plenty of feelings, and real depth to this story. The relationship grows deeper as it continues.

“Sir,” he whispered, pressing his face into Jack’s neck. “I love you.” I love you so much I feel like I’m dying sometimes.
“And I love you,” Jack said, kissing his hair, then tilting him to kiss his eyelids, the corner of his mouth, his throat. “I need to know that you know that, okay?”
Channon breathed out, overflowing with molten-heart-honey-joy. “Yes, Sir. I know.” It felt real and true, and Jack sighed, kissing along his collarbone and then up his neck.
“God, Channon—I didn’t think I could love anyone like this.”

The author does a great job at making Jack and Channon feel like real people. They have their own unique voices and personalities. They're not perfect; they have their own issues to deal with, and occasionally make mistakes. Channon parents were neglectful and selfish, leaving him with little self-worth. Jack is a workaholic, and used to be very lonely. His heart is forever changed by Channon's complete trust and utter devotion:

"He could feel it though, the desire to make Channon happy creeping up inside him like vines, wrapping around his heart. Channon wasn’t like the people Jack usually played with. He had no experience, no expectations, frighteningly little self-worth, and it would be oh so very easy to break him. Jack wasn’t the kind of man who liked to break his toys. And Channon was his, to use, to care for, to keep. Channon was a delight. It was Jack’s job to keep him whole."

I particularly liked the two Thanksgiving episodes, and the Christmas one. Where Channon got to meet Jack's family, and they showed him what normal family life looked like. I skimmed some of the BDSM scenes, that were outside my comfort zone. The painful ones, where Channon happily suffered to please his sadist Dom.

.....in which Jack develops serious feelings for Channon....

Now that Channon has moved in with Jack, he falls further under his spell.

Gotta say.....it would have made this story SO much fun if, just once, Channon told Jack to go pound sand. But he never does, even when Jack inadvertently messes up and leaves Channon, naked and Home Alone, waiting hours for Jack to return. Instead of doing the sensible thing, which would be: getting off his knees, getting dressed, and then texting Jack to ask WTF, Channon just waits passively for Jack, wracked with anxiety and doubt. Jack eventually gets home, and he’s suitably horrified at his mistake, and apologizes to Channon, who withdraws....sure that Jack’s tiring of him. Eventually they reconcile, but only after Channon begs Jack to let him be his ‘good boy,’ and keep him around. ARGHHH.....

I got tired of reading along as Channon happily wraps his self-worth entirely in receiving Jack’s approval. I get that this is their kink, but I have a hard time becoming engaged with a character who is so self-negating that he’s only happy when he’s pleasing Jack. I’d hoped that Channon’s character grows and evolves, developing some sense of self, but instead it’s like he’s stuck in reverse.

There’s loads and loads of sex....everywhere, all the time, alone and with others. Jack and Channon f!ck like rabbits throughout. So if that floats your boat, you’ll love this set of installments.

    Really, really damn enjoyable.

Star rating is for what I’ve read of the series as a whole (rather than individual books/installments) and includes:

His Boy Next Door: Season One

His Boy Next Door: Season Two

His Boy Next Door: Season Three

A Collar for His Brat: Season One (Nate and Ewan)

Two Plus Two: Naughty Advent (twenty-four short-shorts)

Collision Course (not technically part of the Boy Next Door series, and free to newsletter subscribers)

Jack and Channon have quickly been added to my list of favorite couples. First there was Ty and Zane (
Cut & Run), then Tate and Logan (
Try), and now Jack and Channon.

Aside from the expected hot chapters this season, there were 2 chapters especially that had me near tears. Mistakes and Forgiveness broke my heart. I love Jack so much and when he made a mistake with Channon, he had a hard time forgiving himself. I can't wait to dive into Season 3.

  • Alexis Woods

    Great continuation

Oh wow. I just adore Jack and Channon, with a little Nate thrown in for good measure. We get just as much fun sexy times as the first series along with a deepening of their relationship. Plus we get to meet Jack's family as the two men celebrate their first Thanksgiving and Christmas together.

There were some gross editing errors in the first couple of chapters, but they mostly disappeared in the second half.

KU, contemporary, age gap, book in series, BDSM, kink, shibari, profession tech/computers, exhibition kink, humiliation kink, committed couple.

This book continues where the other left of, with Chan and Jack figuring out their relationship in and out of kink.

Channon is such a sweet cinnamon roll, struggling to even see his own self-worth, so desperate for reassurance and approval. At the low point of the book it brought me to tears, and I felt the book needed that, it brought depth to it amongst all the dirty hot scenes.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this series, will most likely need a break before I continue with the next season, as it is long books that keeps much to the same theme throughout.

    OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    This ending. THIS ENDING!!!!!!
I'm soooo in love with this two.

And tbh I dk if I should give it 5 stars or not, one because the first half was just ok, and two because I really hate all the sharing and just wish for them to be jealous and just stop. Ok?
But then, the second half is perfect. I absolutely love Chan getting to know Jack's family, and can I say how perfect it was to see Jack just being human? The mistake was actually perfect.
And the end, I can't even say. They are so in love and so sweet and so perfect.
Maybe not 5 stars, but close. So close.

  • Essie

This was (again) a whole lot of hot scenes.
But for me to totally love a story I need more affection between the two MC’s. Tender moments outside the kink, loving aftercare (and sometimes just plain vanilla sexy times), fun& relaxed times, intelligent conversation (can Channon even form a whole sentence? 😳), showing an interest in eachother, stuff like that.
I was hoping to get more of that in this second volume, but unfortunately it didn’t happen.

  • JenMcJ

More D/s kinkery and it's all very descriptive and plentiful.

After reading the first 12 episodes, I had to go get the next season. This one has a little more reality and Jack isn't always perfect and I struggle a little with Channon's attempt to avoid decisions but now I'm caught up with the seasons and have to move on to individual episodes. KU for the win.

  • Diana

    And it continues…

The second season, happily, is just as delightful as the first. Jack and Channon grow closer and learn more about one another as they explore their relationship. This serial format doesn’t always work for me, but in this author’s hands it’s perfect. I eagerly await more episodes!

  • Anna

This series is so sexy and well-written. I enjoy how scorching the sex is, but I also love how invested I am in the characters. The varied fantasies and different kinks touched on in this series is really awesome. It’s like every episode has one new kink and one new fantasy. It keeps me very interested to keep reading. I can’t wait to read season 3!

  • Smut Librarian

This second series ramps up on the feelings and brings us into a deeper engagement in the characters' kinks and relationship. The development of friendships and the wider community bring an extra element of enjoyment and the heat factor increases. Honestly - the whole series is stunningly steamy and epically full of feels. Loved all of it.

  • Spellbound

I really enjoyed this season, even more than the first one. The exploration of their relationship, combined with the lovely play scenes, was amazing! I was also really excited to see Nash pop up again in this season. This time, the volumes didn't feel as disconnected as the ones in season one, which is exactly what I wanted. Overall, great read and exactly what I'd been craving!
