Talk about Awkward.
It wouldn’t have been so bad if I wasn’t completely hot for the guy. I had been since I first walked into that feline anatomy class and saw him performing chest compressions on a Persian cat named Andrew. All I could think about was how I wanted to be the next creature to slither under those strong, masculine hands.
It was every woman’s dream, right? Finding a man who knew how to handle a pussy.
So, as I sat in that strip club and knocked back my third tequila, I started thinking... I should make a move on him.
When our eyes locked over the busty blonde stripper who was gyrating against me, and he smiled, it was all the encouragement I needed. I politely pushed her aside, stood up, and walked over to him and…
I’ve got no idea what happened next. I knew there was a reason I avoided drinking tequila.
Judging by the way he’s smirking at me as I walk into his class on Monday?
I’m not sure I want to know…

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! Comfort Zone (stand-alone) Road trip turned fuckfest when student finds herself invited to same wedding as her sexy professor & his senile grandmother!
“I groan as she grinds her hips into me, my erection throbbing as it presses against her pussy, through her jeans. “Maybe I should cancel class today,” I mutter. “I can teach you a few lessons instead.”
Books in Awkward Love series are stand-alones:

Book 3:

Book 4:
Comfort Zone
Comfort Zone (stand-alone) is a hilarious and sexy forbidden romance between outspoken and blunt veterinary student Rebecca Chambers and her infuriating sex-on-a-stick professor, Liam Sullivan.
After realizing Professor Sullivan has seen her naughty and lewd texts about him the best plan of action would probably be to keep your mouth shut, stop fantasizing about him and trying to focus on her grades.
Unfortunately for Becca fate has other plans when they find themselves invited to the same wedding and a clusterfuck of events has her on a road trip with Professor Sullivan and his senile grandmother.
Everything pretty much goes down-hill from there. Blood supply to the nether region that is. A sexy RomCom told from dual POVs, with razor-sharp bantering, petty behavior, forbidden sex with the professor and one hilarious situation after another.
Sexual tension overload! Effortless story-telling! Entertaining plot!

COMFORT ZONE, the fourth installment in the ”Awkward Love” series is a romance between a Professor and his student that is filled with many embarrassingly hysterical moments. It seems that everyone loves to get a good laugh at the Heroine, Becca’s expense. I was wondering if she really had any true friends but Becca can dish out as good as she gets. This might be my favorite of the series so far. I never laughed as much and I loved both Liam and Becca. Their chemistry was smoldering.
At twenty seven, Becca decides to pursue her dream of becoming a Veterinarian. She quit her job, moved back into her parents home and is attending university on a scholarship. For the past six months she has had a huge crush on one of her professors and during his class, she’s been IM’ing her girlfriend about all the dirty things she’d like to do to him. To her sheer horror, he confronts her one day and advises her that all instant messages are being monitored and come through to his laptop and he’s known about all her naughty IMs since the very beginning. If a hole could open up and swallow her at that instant, she would consider it a blessing.
Then that night when she’s at her best friend's bachelor party at a strip club, who should she see but her sexy Professor and he wastes no time in teasing her about what transpired between them in class. Becca decides to get stupidly drunk and let’s just say the instant messages pale in comparison to the embarrassing acts she takes part in at the strip club.
Somehow the two end up on a road trip to Vegas to pick up Liam’s ninety-seven-year-old Granny and her cat, while also going to Becca’s parents’ second wedding ceremony. There are sure to be many laughs when there’s a wild Granny on the loose who loves to gamble and stir up trouble.
This was a super fun read with just the right amount of panty melting steam thrown in to tie it all up nicely.

Comfort Zone is book four in the Awkward Love series. It’s about 27 yr. old Becca Chambers who we met in the last book as Laura’s outspoken, funny best friend. Becca has always wanted to work with animals. She took a course at UCLA that landed her a scholarship in veterinary science, and is now working hard as a college student. One of the highlights of her day is her feline anatomy class. She loves learning, but what she loves even more is the delicious eye candy that is Professor Sullivan. She has developed a serious crush on 37 yr. old Liam Sullivan, and is quickly becoming infatuated with ogling him while he teaches. That is till she finds out her IM’s she’s been messaging to her friend Amy during class are monitored through the university’s internal system. She’s humiliated and now has to relive every single dirty thing she said about the professor over the past six months.
Liam keeps seeing his name popping up in messages while he’s trying to give his lectures. He tries to remain professional, but finally decides to inform Becca he can see all the inappropriate things she’s saying about him. She’s absolutely gorgeous and as much as he knows he should be unaffected by her words, he can’t help his attraction to the stunning brunette.
-I sneak another glance at him again, my heart racing. Why does he have to be so fucking hot?
-There's something about Liam, and it's more than just physical.
Becca finds Professor Sullivan infuriating, and is so embarrassed. She needs a distraction, and is looking forward to her best friend Jake’s bachelor party. Then she runs into her professor, the man who embodies her every fantasy, and has currently been giving her a hard time. She’s wanted him for so long, and finally decides to make her move. What does she have to lose.
Liam finds himself in a compromising position when he is at a party at a strip club with one of his students. Becca suddenly becomes impossible to ignore. She’s irresistible, and coming on to him. She drinks a little too much tequila, and he decides since she can’t seem to recall all the details of the night, he’ll have a bit of fun with her. The more he gets to know her, the more he likes her.
I really enjoyed this sexy story! It’s a forbidden romance between a professor and his student that’s packed with sexual chemistry and humor. I really love this series. I can’t wait for the next book!

Thought I'd share the opening few paragraphs of Comfort Zone. Are you hooked?? :D :D
CHAPTER ONE
Amy: Okay. Would you rather masturbate in public or lick Professor Sullivan’s asshole?
I choke back a laugh and screw up my nose, not finding either of those options particularly appealing. Not that I’m going to tell Amy that. I glance up to make sure Professor Sullivan is still talking, before I type out my response.
Me: Lick Professor Sullivan’s asshole, preferably while stroking his cock. Then again, I’ve always had a thing for exhibitionism. Can I just say both? Or maybe lick his ass in public, while getting myself off?
Amy: I knew you were a kinky bitch.
I attempt to turn a burst of laughter into a cough, but I end up swallowing air the wrong way and spluttering so loudly that half the room turns around to look at me. I sink further down into my seat and focus at my laptop, pretending I can’t feel everyone staring. I shoot a glare at Amy, who sits three rows away, chuckling to herself.
“Is everything okay, Ms. Chambers?”
I freeze as I look up right into the eyes of Professor Sullivan. We stare at each other for a moment, until his lips lift into a smirk. I flush, somehow managing to nod my head.
“As I was saying…”
Another message from Amy pings through, but I close it, not wanting to risk getting myself into more trouble. I last five minutes before my curiosity gets the better of me and I have to open it.
Amy: You’re such a dick. Want to hang out tonight?
Amy and I hit it off after we were paired up for a group project earlier in the year. Like most of my peers, she’s a few years younger than me, though some of the shit I get myself into, you’d think I was the younger one.
Me: I can’t. Jake’s bachelor party, remember?
Amy: I still think you should’ve gone with Sacked.
I smirk, because I could just imagine the look on Jake’s face if I’d arranged his party at the hot new gay strip club. Twenty guys standing around awkwardly, looking anywhere but at the cock swinging in their faces? It would have been pretty fucking funny. For me, at least.
I’d been looking forward to planning this since Jake got engaged. He’s one of my best friends, and I’m determined to throw him a night he’ll remember. It’s not like anything I do will make his fiance hate me any less, so what have I got to lose?
I’ve tried everything to get along with Brooke, but she just flat out hates me. I’m not sure why and I’m past the point of caring. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit there were times I wished he would find someone else. That sounds awful, but Jake’s my friend and I want to share everything with him, including his partners—in a totally, non-sexual way, of course, because my fantasies are reserved for Professor Sullivan.
I’m kidding…sort of.
I fiddle with a loose thread on my shirt as anxiety shifts through my stomach. I never thought I’d be the kind of girl who had a crush on a teacher, but here I am, a twenty-seven year old college student, lusting after her professor. Yes, my life is that sad. I sneak a look in his direction, sucking in a mouthful of air when his eyes meet mine.
His lips twitch, highlighting his strong jawline and the undeniably sexy layer of stubble that covers it. He’s definitely attractive, but beyond that? I have no idea. These feelings I’ve developed for him are definitely infatuation. For all I know, he might be a total asshole.
The end of the lecture can’t come soon enough. When it’s over, I stand up and follow the crowd to the door, my mind ticking over with everything I still have to do for tonight. Why do I leave shit till the last minute? You’d think I would eventually learn, but I never seem to. Just as I’m about to walk out of the hall, I hear my name. I freeze, because that voice...
Why is Professor Sullivan calling out my name?
I’d had this fantasy before, but we were both wearing much less clothing.
I turn around and clutch at the strap of my backpack so tightly that my knuckles turn white, then I saunter over there, ignoring the looks and giggles I’m getting from passing students. Amy mouths good luck to me. I roll my eyes, hoping to God I look calmer and more in control that I feel.
“You wanted to see me?” I say.
Professor Sullivan looks up, his expression giving nothing away. Then he nods and runs his hand through his thick hair
as he leans back in his chair.
“I did.”
He smirks at me in such a way that I feel dirty—or maybe that’s the naughty thoughts that smirk is putting into my head?
Focus, Becca. Now is not the time to be fantasizing about him.
“I wanted to speak with you for a moment about the internal instant messaging service you love to abuse so much.”
My heart thumps in my chest as I force myself to swallow.
“What about it?” I finally manage to ask.
He smiles at me, those electric blue eyes burning through me. My skin goes hot as I shuffle on my feet, waiting for him to tell me what the hell this is all about. A horrible thought hits me. I hope he’s not cutting me off. I shudder at the thought.
“I’m an administrator, Becca. That means, every single text sent within that system pops up on my screen. Most of them I ignore, but every now and then, one captures my attention.” His eyes twinkle as he stares at me. “Oddly enough, the ones that stand out are nearly always yours.”
I stare at him, my eyes wide. Is he fucking kidding me?
“Is that even legal?” I ask, my voice coming out a strangled growl. “Surely that’s an invasion of my privacy?”
“No, not when you signed a disclaimer on the first day of class,” he reminds me.
He stands up and walks around to the front of his desk, parking his ass right in front of me. He’s within my reach, which means there’s a fifty-fifty chance of me doing something stupid, like reaching out to touch him. I cross my arms over my chest, just in case, because if today has established anything, it’s that I’m stupid enough to unconsciously stroke his cock through his pants, or something.
“On that first day, I went through the terms of use in extreme detail because I wanted everyone to be aware those messages are filtered through my system. I said it twice, but you obviously weren’t listening.” He turns around and grabs a file, flicking through it until he reaches a certain page. “Your signature?” he asks, holding it up.
My heart pounds as I nod. How did I miss that? I was probably too busy messaging Amy. I drop my gaze, beyond embarrassed. It’s a strange feeling, because I’m usually the cause of this kind of embarrassment. I’m that friend who’ll buy you a giant rubber penis for your birthday and make you open it in front of your entire family.
“Look, I’m not telling you to stop messaging your friends, I just wanted you to be aware that I could see them.” He pauses, the tiniest smile visible on his lips. “Since so many of them involve me.”
All I can think about is the hundreds of embarrassing, inappropriate and often downright weird messages that I’d sent Amy during his class. I close my eyes and swallow, my heart pounding, because I fail to see how this can get any worse.
“Is that all?” I whisper.
I don’t want to stand here, making small talk with him. I want to get the fuck out of here and never speak about this moment again. Ever. Only I’m not convinced that my mind is ready to let me forget about this just yet.
He nods. “Sure.” He studies me for a moment, before continuing. “It’s the weekend. I’m sure you’ve got a very full schedule planned. Just make sure you squeeze in some study time.”
I smile tightly and then turn around, quickly making a break for the door. Just as I touch the handle, he calls out to me.
“Ms. Chambers? One more thing.”
I cringe and force myself to smile as I turn around to face him again. I’m so embarrassed, it’s not funny. How could I sign something when I had no idea what it was? God, how fucking stupid can I be? Who knows what else I have unwittingly signed over the years.
“Yes?”
“While I appreciate your commitment to trying new things, I can assure you that no tongue.” He pauses. “Not even yours, will ever be going near my asshole.”
Oh God. I want to die.
His eyes flicker with amusement as I struggle to breathe.
“Of course, I have no control over whether you masturbate in public, but I suggest if you do go down that path, you choose a warm night. The last thing you want to end up with is a cold.”
This is not happening.
The way he’s looking at me, I might as well just drop the skinny jeans it took me an hour to get into and get myself off right here, in front of him. It’s obvious he’s imagining it anyway. I force myself to keep eye contact, because if I lose that, then I’m done.
“Thank you, Professor Sullivan.” -
“Uncomfortable”
I was looking for something a little lighter in the romance genre to take a brief break from my favorite dark romance reads in which recently I was deeply immersed…a little summertime fun!!! In a way, “Comfort Zone” delivered a little levity but I was disappointed by the quality of the read. Now here comes my personal disclaimer…I do not read Rom Coms routinely and they are generally not my cuppa…so accept my musings with this in mind. While I found elements of this story lacking, many might find the story, characters, setting perfectly acceptable and entertaining. (How I hate writing this!!! Although...I did make some art...)
The story has a very funny first chapter which drew me in completely and I based my decision to read the book because of this clever first chapter. That and the fact that it involves one of my favorite tropes which is the hot professor/naughty student forbidden attraction love affair.
What seemed like a promising romantic escape involving a Professor of Veterinary Science and his bright but zany older student sort of fizzled. Much of the story takes place in either a strip club or resort hotel rooms. Liam, the professor, and Becca’s, the student, first sexual touching takes place when Becca is out of her mind inebriated. There is really no heat or chemistry during this scene due, of course, to Becca’s extreme inebriation.
There was not much heat or chemistry throughout the entirety of the book between these two. Becca joked quite a lot about sex but she didn’t seem all that sexual. Sexy time between Becca and Liam did not happen until well into the second half of the book and the few encounters written were repetitive of the same moves and positions.
One would think that Veterinary science folks would have a few pets…yet the only one that had a pet was Liam’s elderly grandmother afflicted with dementia. Her antics were written to be funny but not. She was not just eccentric…she was suffering from a mental decline which only made her antics a sad reminder of her serious health condition.
The whole plot revolved around Becca’s best friend Jake and his upcoming nuptials. I won’t go into the fact that Jake never mentioned his cousin Liam to his best friend Becca because that was the least of the improbabilities in this story.
Rather than continue to belabor point after point on how this book fell short on probability, romance, heat, plot and setting, I will end my discussion. Again, I say that perhaps I approached this read with too much of an analytical mind, but then again, the funniest comedy is usually insightfully and smartly done.
I may need to rethink my personal policy of completing every book I begin. I was truly uncomfortable reading “The Comfort Zone”. I don’t even know what the title refers to in the book? -
This was a silly, fun story about Becca and her professor, Liam. When Becca learns that Liam has been able to read all her student IM’s to her friend, messages that are completely inappropriate and are centered on her hot teacher, she’s flaming with embarrassment. Her best friend’s bachelor party only adds to that embarrassment when she realizes Liam is also in attendance. A few drinks later, some high jinx with strippers and even more drinks, Becca has the hangover from hades and no memory of the night before. Liam uses her memory loss to antagonize her but also to push his agenda. He wants to spend time with her and a trip to pick up his Grammy is the perfect way to do so.
There is a lot of crazy in this book. I never knew where, what, or when something even more startling was going to happen. The humor was a bit more than I prefer as I felt some of these character’s actions was better suited to a younger crowd. However, I’m usually the odd man out when it comes to this type of story, so if you like your fun a touch juvenile then please don’t hesitate to check out this one. When the story hits the meat of these characters, this author does just as I love and shows who each person is at the very heart of them.
This is a fast paced read and it’s got plenty of steam. The secondary characters add lots of comic relief, some character development and a catalysis to move the story forward. Overall, I enjoyed it but it was not my favorite of the series.

The book was over the top, but it was also funny and it made me laugh out loud, so I have plenty of warm feelings about it. I dived into this book knowing what to expect since it's similar in some ways to the other 3 books, meaning that you won't read about a situation that might happen easily in our everyday lives. Liam's grandma was hilarious when she was lucid and she is my favorite character in this novel. For the first time, I think, we have two books in the series that are actually connected, since we saw Becca in the third book and there is a mention of a certain ER visit you might remember from book #3.
In my opinion that Jake sub-plot at the end of the book was not needed and we could have lived a happy life without it. That's the reason I am giving 4-stars to the book. Liam and Becca were great together and we didn't need all that Jake drama. It also kinda ruined the image I had on my mind for the two of them as friends. I wish we had seen more of Jake's fiance because she seemed like a nice person. I liked her presence in the epilogue.
And speaking about the epilogue I would like to add that it was one of the good ones and I am glad it was added to the book. It captured the spirit of the main story and it gave me the feeling that the story ended in the way it began. It was a full circle. -
You remember the movie "Dude, Where's My Car?" ? I feel like this was a much better version except it was "Chick, What'd I Do"! I know for a fact now that when I open a Missy Johnson book I'm in for a hilarious story. Comfort Zone was hilarious, witty, sweet, and sexy. It's definitely a book you want to make sure you are home alone with, because you will be laughing out loud and groaning throughout the entire thing! We met Becca in Laura's story and I knew we'd get the best book yet in the series with her.
Becca is one of my favorite female characters ever. She may get slightly embarrassed by the things she does but it doesn't stop her! The whole trying to retrace her steps to jog her brain of the memories of a drunken night at a strip club was the best thing ever! Liam surprised me. I thought he'd be a bit uptight, I was so wrong. He enjoys teasing Becca. So much so. They are pretty much made for each other!
The writing will have you rolling on the floor laughing, the characters will have you snickering, and everything else is just icing on the cake. Missy Johnson knows comedy and effortlessly adds just the right amount with romance and sexiness. You will regret passing up reading these books, they will drag you out of a book funk quickly! -
Not having read anything by Missy Johnson before, reading COMFORT ZONE was refreshing for me! I enjoy getting to know new authors and experiencing the stories they share with us as readers!
I’m no stranger to the insta-lust slash teacher-student trope. Fortunately, Johnson chose to spend less time on the aforementioned relationship between Becca and Liam in a institutional way, and instead chose to highlight the coming together as a couple. Through hilarious wit, amazingly funny side characters (Grammy and Beccas mom), crazy plot twists, and the sheer luck that the whole story line didn’t go belly-up from the initial night at the Strip club; I have to say that this book for me was really good fun and I enjoyed Johnson’s writing style.
I laughed out loud, for real, snickered more than once while reading on public transit and truly couldn’t put this down.
A super fun, quick sweet read that’ll make your heart feel full!

This was a super cute addition to this series. We knew Becca from the last book and seeing her get her own book was an experience. The first half of the book reminded me a little of the movie the hangover. Then when we get closer to the end we get the drama. It was pretty straight forward and I found that I appreciated that fact. This series is overall laid back. If you want a funny story after you have read something more intense then this story is for you. Her parents, his grandma, the other secondary characters really add a great spin to the overall feel of the story. I am excited for the next one. 4 stars #2OCCJD

I highly enjoyed this story.
Becca and liam made me fall in love with them right away, this is a sexy and funny student/teacher book.
I loved beccas friendship with Jake, liam's Grammy and beccas mum so much.
Becca has a great lot of feisty about her and liam is So swoony.
this is my favorite quote from this story.
"I've had bowel movements with more personality than that girl" -

I laugh a lot at the beginning and I loved Becca. She's crazy and funny. But Liam was way too perfect sometimes. I love that characters from the other books were here, but you don't have to read all of them to get this one, it can be read as a standalone.
This book is a fast reading that has almost no drama. I expected some like with Liam's father or maybe the "forbidden" relationship. But it made me laugh and I was after a funny book, so it was good. -
If there was a photo in the dictionary next to the work Awkward it would show Becca, this poor girl, if anything could go wrong it would - well as long as she was involved. The book starts off with her and her friend Amy sending IMs to one another during class but Becca forgets that they are fed through the professors computer and he can see EVERYTHING they say, lets just say things get a little AWKWARD for her after she finds out....LOL. And the there's the fact that she can't remember most of the night from Jake's Bachelor Party where she sees her sexy professor...oh boy!!!!

**3.5 Stars**
I really enjoyed the majority of this book. I'm a sucker for a good student/teacher romance, and this one really drew me in. I loved Becca's spunk and Liam's sweetness, and I found their banter amusing. Around 85-90% in is where I lost my enthusiasm. I felt like a ping pong ball, bouncing from place to place within the drama. It didn't seem to flow as well as the rest of the book, and it lacked a concreteness (if that's a word) that was present throughout the rest of the book. I don't know. I just felt like I lost my connection with the characters and the story because there seemed to be a lot crammed into the end of the book, like some of the happenings weren't well developed and affected the cohesiveness. This book kept me up most of the night because I couldn't put it down, and maybe that's why the ending was so disappointing for me. Keep in mind as you read this that I read an ARC of the book provided by the author, so some things may change a little between now and publication. Despite my issues with the end, I still consider this book a great read, and I recommend it to others who enjoy student/teacher romances like I do. It was hot, humorous, and a lot of fun.
**I received an ARC of this book from the author.** -
I can not express how much I LOVED this book!! From the moment I opened the pages until the very end, I was hooked! One of THE BEST romcom's I've read in a long time!
Becca is SUCH a relatable character to me! She's smart, awkward and has a heart of gold. The situations she finds herself in, had me laughing so hard I literally had tears streaming down my face. The sexy Professor Liam didn't help much either. I loved how he found her quirkiness endearing and he just rolled with whatever was going on around them. All the characters of this book were well written, but Becca's Mom had to be my favorite!
The story flowed so smoothly and was seriously easy to read. Yes, its absolutely hysterical, but it has an abundance of heart as well. I enjoyed seeing the tender side to all of these characters, especially in Brooke.
If you need a book to brighten your day, put you in a better mood, then READ THIS ONE!! This wasn't my first read by this author and yet again, she did not disappoint! -
Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down! Johnson had me hooked from page one. She delivered an extremely funny, oh so sweet, and seriously sexy story.
I couldn’t get enough of the witty dialogue. These two had some laugh out loud banter, not to mention the sexual tension was through the roof. I had to find out how everything would play out between them. Johnson managed to add in just the right amount drama to give this humorous and sweet story some stakes.
I was definitely interested in this story after reading the blurb, but I have to admit, I was a bit surprised by how much I loved it. If you’re looking for something light and fun, grab this book, you won’t be disappointed. -
I was deliriously happy when I got Becca’s story!
I fell in love with her in ‘Too Much Information’.
Becca is smart, a little klutzy and sassy with a whole lotta spunk. And seems to enjoy dreaming of a certain professor.
Liam is equally fascinated by Becca and their attraction is instant. Put them together and you get one hell of a story!
There are plenty of laughs as their journey unfolds, the bachelor party, the crazy shenanigans, the commitment ceremony, it was all a laugh a minute and I couldn’t get enough!!!!
I feel like I could continue reading on about Liam and Becca’s journey together, it was that good I couldn’t get enough!!!
The wait was definitely worth it! ❤️❤️ -
This is the first book I've read by Missy Johnson. This was a great book. Liam and Becca are perfect for each other, as their personalities balance each other out. It's also very funny. There are some moments in the book that I'm still laughing about. If you're a fan of romantic comedies, this book will be right up your alley.

I absolutely loved this book. I laughed through out most of this book. Becca is the type of person I want to hang out with. She's always gets into embarrassing situations and she just rolls with it. Becca was a hoot. She owned her clumsy, embarrassing ways. Liam was a great match for her and considering the fact that he can put up with her outgoing parents made him even better. I love when a book makes me laugh and swoon.

This book seriously cracked me up. Becca is the poster child for what can go wrong will. Liam and Becca’s story is hilariously awesome, between Grammy, YouTube, and a strip club it’s a wonder they had time to fall in love.

Once again Missy Johnson delivers a hilarious rom-com that will leave you laughing a lot. Comfort Zone has a hilarious storyline, plus it's tied together with characters you'll adore.
Becca is sassy, quirky, fun-loving character. And Liam, her professor, definitely was a good match for her. He's tough yet sexy, and smart. I felt these two complimented each other very well. Plus I adored Grammy's character.

I choke back a laugh and screw up my nose, not finding either of those options particularly appealing. Not that I’m going to tell Amy that. I glance up to make sure Professor Sullivan is still talking before I type out my response.
Me: Lick Professor Sullivan’s asshole, preferably while stroking his cock. Then again, I’ve always had a thing for exhibitionism. Can I just say both? Or maybe lick his ass in public, while getting myself off?
Amy: I knew you were a kinky bitch.
Why is Professor Sullivan calling out my name?
You wanted to see me?” I say.
That means every single text sent within that system pops up on my screen. Most of them I ignore, but every now and then one captures my attention.” His eyes twinkle as he stares at me. “Oddly enough, the ones that stand out are nearly always yours.”
“Look, I’m not telling you to stop messaging your friends—I just wanted you to be aware that I could see them.” He pauses, the tiniest smile visible on his lips. “Since so many of them involve me.”
“Is that all?” I whisper.
I don’t want to stand here making small talk with him. I want to get the fuck out of here and never speak about this moment again. Ever. Only I’m not convinced that my mind is ready to let me forget about this just yet.
“Sure.” He studies me for a moment, before continuing.
“Did you know the IMs sent through the internal system are monitored?” I accuse her. Then I cringe again. I want the world to swallow me up every time I think about it. “Every fucking message we’ve sent in that room, he’s read.”
“Of course I knew,” she giggles. “I thought you knew and you just didn’t care. That’s why I keep messaging you, because you’re so much fun.”
“Didn’t care?” I repeat, glaring at her. “Why the fuck wouldn’t I care?”
I frown as I try to decide which option to go with: the fist or the more traditional penis-shaped dildo. My concentration is interrupted when I hear an all-too-familiar voice calling my name. I cringe and poke my head around the side of the aisle. Sure enough, there’s Mom, flailing up and down the center of the store, calling out to me.
“Becca! There you are. How cool is this place?” She giggles. “It’s huge. Not like the pokey little back-room sex shops I’m used to. Then again, the last time I was in one was when your father and I got one of those—”
I need to get out of here before she does something to really embarrass—I wince when I hear a loud crash.
Too late.
I turn around, my eyes widening at the sight of Mom sprawled out on the floor, surrounded by hundreds of tiny little motorized Pac-Man-style penises. I watch as these tiny little erect penises snap their oversized mouths at her legs, like blood-thirsty piranhas, and I can’t help myself—I lose it. Gasping, I clutch my stomach as tears stream down my cheeks.
Mom glares at me. “Becca, stop laughing and help me.”
“I’ve been invited to a family thing.”
“Whose family?” he asks “Who do you know in Vegas—wait, hold on. Are you talking about Becca’s parents?”
“Yeah, how did you guess?”
“Because you said Vegas and this weekend. Why are you going?” he asks.
“Because she invited me.”
“You?” He snorts. “Why would she invite you?”
“Well, I’m pretty sure she doesn’t remember inviting me.” I chuckle. “But she’ll be honoring it.”
“She doesn’t remember anything about that night?” He laughs. “Even if she did invite you, she’s not going to believe that.”
I grin. “Then it’s a good thing I have proof.”
Hold up, free booze?” I frown suspiciously at them.
Annie shrugs innocently. “It’s only fair. We are helping you, after all…”
“Uh, who’s helping who, here?” I snort. “And you do realize it’s a strip club, right? We’re talking more boobs than a breastfeeding convention.”
“Honey, I haven’t had a kid free night in four freaking months,” Annie growls at me. “I’d suck someone’s tit if it means I get to let my hair down and drink. Work with me on this, Becca. I’m begging you.”
I laugh and shake my head. It’s not like it can make things any worse, right?
“Fine, but not tonight,” I groan. “I’ve had enough drama for today.”
“Well, I have choir practice at the church tomorrow, so that rules that out,” Annie murmurs thoughtfully. Both Laura and I turn to gape at her. She glares back at us. “What? It’s relaxing. Stop judging me.”
Grammy wakes up after a few minutes and looks around.
“Where are we?” she snaps.
“At a resort. We’re staying here for tonight so Becca can attend a family event tomorrow.”
“Becca is that girl?” She frowns at the front seat. “Where’s she?”
“She took our bags up to our rooms,” I explain.
“She took my bags?” Her eyes widen with alarm.
“What’s wrong?” I ask.
“I need my bag.” The panic in her eyes makes me start to panic. “Please, Liam. I need it. You have to get me my bag.”
“Calm down,” I say. “We’ll go up there now and get your bags, okay?”
What’s so important about your bags?”
“Oh…nothing,” she murmurs, looking away.
I narrow my eyes as she stops to examine some roses growing near the front doors. Now she has time to stop for flowers? Five minutes ago she couldn’t get to her bags fast enough. Between that, and the way she won’t look at me, I know something is up.
“Grammy…” I speak in the sternest voice I can muster.
“What?” she practically shouts. “You wouldn’t let me take him, so what was I supposed to do? I couldn’t leave him there. That woman hates him.”
That woman? I groan and take her hand, trying to hurry her up, before the poor thing suffocates. I know exactly what she’s done, but I glance at her, still wanting to ask the question, just in case I’m wrong.
“Please tell me you didn’t smuggle Andrew into your luggage,” I beg her. “Grammy?” I press when she doesn’t answer.
“What? You just told me not to tell you,” she snaps.
“Here we are,” I mutter, panting at the front of the room.
I pound on the hotel room door, until it swings open. Becca stares at me, looking a little shocked as I burst past her.
“What’s wrong?” she asks.
“Grammy’s bags. Where are they?” I ask urgently.
“Over there.”
She points to the bed, but I’m already over there, zipping them open. The soft meow brings me more relief than I’ve felt in a long time. My heart races as I dig around in the bag and free a very dazed and angry, Andrew, who had been restrained in a pillow case. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry when I see that she’d cut a few holes in the pillowcase so he could breathe. Andrew hisses at me and then struggles out of my arms, making a run for the door.
“Shut the door,” I order Becca.
Shit. That’s my parent’s,” I hiss.
Liam snorts, then starts laughing. One look at my expression and he stops laughing. I snatch up my clothes and toss them behind the couch, while he watches me in disbelief.
“What are you doing?” he asks.
“I’m gardening. What’s it look like?” I ask, climbing halfway over the back. “Are you coming, or not?”
“I’m a grown man. I am not hiding behind the couch, from my girlfriend’s parents.”
I stop and stare at him.
Girlfriend?
My eyes widen when the couch begins to rock back, buckling under my weight. I cry out and grab hold of him, but it’s too late. He slips from my grasp as I fall back with the couch. Fuck. I gasp as a stab of pain rips through my ankle.
“Get it off me,” I gasp as the base lands on my ankle. “Fuck, it hurts.”
“I’m trying,” he growls,
No, he’s not trying because he’s too busy laughing. It’s all right for him. I’m the one sprawled out naked, on the floor with a couch on my foot.
Becca, what are you doing? Why are you hiding behind the couch?” Mom’s voice sings out again, this time it’s much closer.
“Because I’m building a fucking fort,” I snarl.
“Rebecca Chamber’s, don’t you take that tone with me—” Her voice stops. “Oh, hello Liam. It’s lovely to see you again.” The change in her tone makes me laugh.
“You too, Mrs. Chambers.”
“Oh, call me Karen.” Mom laughs.
“Um, sorry to interrupt, but can we get this couch off me?” I snap. I’ve managed to get my shirt on and covered my legs with the throw rug from the couch.
“What’s happening?”
I groan. Dad.
“Your daughter is trapped under the couch.”
“Again?” Dad jokes. “Okay, you take that end, I’ll take this. Karen, you help Becca up.” -
A drop dead gorgeous and hilarious romantic comedy that is unputdownable...
There's not much that I can say about Comfort Zone, except that it is Romantic Comedy gold! Seriously, this book was just freaking perfection. I couldn't put it down, and when I had to, I just couldn't wait to pick it back up again. But really that came as no surprise considering how brilliant this Awkward Love series has been so far. Every book has it's own identity, but each one has a way of grabbing your attention and completely enamouring you.
The plot for this story was, in my opinion, absofreakinglutely sensational. From the get go you are brought to your knees with laughter and the chemistry is palpable from the opening words. Don't ask me how Missy's done it, because she has a knack for it. Missy Johnson has her own gorgeous brand of writing that is enthralling and enticing. Once you open one of her books it just seems impossible to close it...even when it is over. Comfort Zone was no exception. I found myself arguing with myself over how fast I was getting through it. I couldn't seem to read it fast enough, but yet I never wanted it to end.
The pacing of the story itself is fast and punchy, but that is down to the humour and also it has this sweet edge to it that makes you swoon...amongst other libidinous things. I found that the dual perspective worked fabulously and again, I have no idea how Ms. Johnson managed to take on two very different voices and made them flow flawlessly and beautifully.
The characters themselves are nothing but lovable. Yes, their humour makes them approachable and empathizable, but also their sweetness and feistiness made them interesting. I could not get enough of either Becca or Liam. They are the sort of characters that you want to get to know. You want to spend time with them and you will not be able to say goodbye to. I liked that Liam was soft and grounded, he really balanced out Becca's crazy and boisterousness. Saying that, the guy could charm and talk the pants off a girl without there being any hands involved. Seriously, he could make knickers disintegrate with just his words!
Honestly, Comfort Zone is one of those books that will brighten up any doom and gloomy day. This is that book that you won't be able to help but smile about when you think of it, or even just look at it. I can see myself going back to it time and again, and loving the crap out it every single time! This is must read of hilarious and sexy proportions! -
From the beginning this book had me in giggles, the hilarious banter back and forth and the off situations that they found themselves in made this book a favourite. Comfort Zone is a Professor / student novel, a rom-com at its best.
Becca decided that It doesn’t matter how old you are when it comes to chasing your dreams, her dream is to become a veterinarian. Having a seriously gorgeous Professor and then finding him at her BFF’s Bachelor party surrounded by strippers is one for the books. Liam has her in his sights, after watching her go wild, he can’t stop thinking about her.
Becca is a carefree woman, at 27 she is going after what she wants. She doesn’t back down anything, including a dare. When faced with possible scrutiny she holds her head high and keeps on going. Liam is loveable and with his witty sarcasm he has Becca eating out of the palm of his hand. The two of them together was a perfect combination for a great book.
The sexual tension was there from the beginning, what started of playful turned off the charts very quickly. They had interruptions which I found to be hilarious that only made their desire towards each other stronger.
Missy has done a great job of bringing Liam and Becca to life in this book. It was a very easy read and one that I didn’t want to put down. I love that we got to hear from both characters and it gave me an higher understanding of Liam and Becca.
If you are after a light-hearted, rom-com with some serious laugh out loud moments then this is the book for you. I personally loved it and the book flowed without hesitation and drew me in further with each chapter. I cannot wait for the next Missy Johnson instalment.

Well I tried again. This author is officially a no for me. I will say they did finally get an editor though so bravo there, at least for the half that I read. From some other reviews it appears maybe the second half wasn’t as great on editing?
This is the third or fourth book I’ve attempted by this author and I have certainly noticed a trend. The first chapter or very beginning at least is written some what well. It captures your attention and is usually pretty good, and then it’s like they lose their motivation and the rest is utter crap.
The same goes here, the first chapter was pretty good and then it just got boring and weird. The humor was over done making it seriously miss it’s mark. Between Becca’s total awkwardness, her mother’s bizarre personality, the immature group of friends, and the elderly grandmother with dementia’s antics, it was so forced and just so weird.
The plot was equally bad. So much doesn’t make sense. The attempts at suspense even fell flat. The student/teacher/age-gap relationship that should’ve added a level of taboo but didn’t in the slightest. The ages of current and past characters don’t line up with simple math.
I’m all about my smut and sex scenes. That had to be the worst written, most boring, sex scene I have EVER read. The absolute worst. Zero chemistry between the characters, I might as well have been reading about them making the bed.
I just can’t. -
oh Becca! She is a little unconventional. She is a woman who decided to go after a career in vetenary medicine after her job as an animal wrangler. To say she's a little older than her fellow students is very accurate. To say she has a higher maturity level many not be as accurate. She has a slight crush on her professor, Liam Sullivan and isn't shy to share that information with one of her classmates through the university's chat systems. Yea, that could come back to bite her. She's also responsible for her best friend's bachelor party. Yes, Jake is a guy. Who said guys and girls can't be friends? they are best friends in every sense of the words. She would do anything for him. oh and that professor? He is Jake's cousin and is at the party too.
I loved Becca. She lives life with gusto. That might be coming from her parents whom she's walked in on several times experimenting with their more intimate relationship. That side story made me laugh so hard I snorted! Becca also has such strong friendships that they would do anything for each other and i mean anything. Including looking after a grandmother with dementia just so she and Liam can have some alone time.
I ploughed through this book! Each adventure became more than the last. I laughed, I snorted, I got a little hot under the collar. This was the first book from Ms Johnson that I have read but I'm so glad I have KU so that I can read the rest.
