A deadly vendetta, a country music singer on the rise, and the hot-tempered Navy SEAL who could either wreck or save everything …

Corbin Spencer’s made his share of mistakes and would give anything to have a do-over. When he gets the opportunity to join an elite security task force of ex-Navy SEALs, he jumps at the chance. Too bad the woman he’s supposed to protect just gave him the brush-off, then sicked her knuckle-headed security detail on him.

Delaney Mitchell is on the verge of hitting it big in the country music industry. At the very time when she should be flying high and enjoying life, she finds herself fleeing from a ruthless man who’s out for revenge.

Just when she thinks things can’t get worse, she realizes that the jerk she met at the party—the one with the chiseled body, intense green eyes, and rebel-without-a-cause attitude is her new bodyguard.

In order to protect Delaney, Corbin finds himself taking her back to his hometown, teaching her how to ski, and, unexpectedly, dancing with her in his arms. Sparks fly as their mutual attraction kindles to something deeper and they question if they can put aside the heartaches of the past and learn to trust each other.

What will Corbin and Delaney find around the next bend? Retribution or redemption?

I did not enjoy The Reckless Warrior as much as Diehard Warrior. I had fun with previous book while The Reckless Warrior is boring. Recycle.

There are still some cute, sweet conversation between the characters. Sadly not enough to give a kick to the plot.

    Overall, an OK book.

Not for me. DNF @ >15%. Why?

Sentence structure and grammar make the content difficult to read. Sentences like this…

It had been seven months since Doug had passed, but tonight on the grounds of his estate the wound felt as raw as it had in the beginning.

Not following logic. Her bodyguard is so inept that he’s drugged by some random woman giving him donuts, which led to the FMC being assaulted in her own home by her ex. Yet, he isn’t fired? He’s still on the job, and she feels bad that he was drugged.

The MMC’s “geez,” “sheesh,” and overall voice isn’t my brand of man.

The MMC’s first encounter with the FMC is an epic fail. She makes it clear that she wants to be left alone, but he inner dialogues about how she’s the queen of mixed signals simply because she “looked at him.” He feels all entitled because he normally hits home runs with the ladies. Even after she asks repeatedly to be left alone, he reaches out to touch her. Not endearing. Not alpha. Just a lot of cheese sauce spread over a lip-curling scene.

Note to self… Author’s style, plot, and characters aren’t on my taste wavelength.

This is part of the Navy SEAL series, but can be read as a standalone. But I was glad that I had Sutton's background story.

Because I've read some of the other stories in this series, I knew that Corbin did not have an easy relationship with the rest of the SEAL team. I really enjoyed hearing his side of the story. He and Delaney have instant chemistry, but they both have baggage to work through. I loved Pops and how he didn't let them defeat themselves, but helped them work through their issues.

We know from the very beginning who is stalking Delaney, but he (the stalker) has incredible resources and Corbin isn't going to be able to protect Delaney without some help. I loved how this story played out.

Content: Clean (some talk of an attempted rape, but nothing happens)

My review today is on the Romantic Suspense, The Reckless Warrior. This is book two in the series Navy SEAL Romance. I have become a huge fan of Jennifer's work. I love stories about the Navy SEALs and especially those who work for Sutton Smith. This story is well-written, action-packed, and full of drama. I know you are going to love it.

Delaney Mitchell had one month to write and record an album. She returns to her apartment and takes a shower. When she comes out in just a robe she finds her abusive ex-husband. He laughs as he explains her bodyguard is asleep in the hall. She wouldn't let him rape her again. She fights back and his gun accidentally goes off. She calls 911. At the hospital, her ex's brother arrives. "If he dies, you die"

Ex-Navy SEAL Corban Spencer enters a party Sutton Smith is giving. He had sent Corban a tux and told him to come meet with him. Corban's best friend had been Sutton's son. He knows Doug's death was his fault, how could Sutton even look at him. When he walks in his eyes lock on a beautiful woman but then she walks away. He finds her again at the bar but she shoots him down and he gets in a fight with her bodyguard. He's locked up in the basement but is brought up for a meeting. He is assigned to bodyguard Delaney.

An exciting journey to protect Delany from a monster, while the two stubborn people fight battle after battle. God has a plan for these two broken souls; a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a plan for peace and not for destruction, even in this time of chaos, political unrest, and war. Give Him your heart and watch Him work in your life.

Delaney Mitchell was raised in a trailer park in Alabama by a mother addicted to drugs. She married young and was abused by her husband. After he nearly killed her, Delaney filed for divorce and fled to Nashville where she was discovered by Montana Crew's record label. Once Delaney gained some fame, her ex-husband returns, claiming she is still his and he owns her and everything she has. Delaney hires a service to be her body guards, constantly. When her guard is drugged and Delaney is nearly killed, her manager calls in Sutton Smith and his ex-Navy Seal security staff. Corbin Spencer is a broken man since his best friend, Doug Smith, Sutton's son was killed in the line of duty. When Corbin is assigned to watch over Delaney, attraction sizzles from first site and the two begin a dance of attraction and denial. A fast paced, great story!

I didn't read the series in order, so I was excited to read this one because the other books alluded to the fact that things weren't totally okay with Corbin and the other SEALs. I was curious to find out why. It wasn't my favorite of the series, but it wasn't my least favorite either. Not sure I would read it again, but it was a good read with suspense, romance, and redemption. It was clean and a quick read.

    Wonderful

It was a wonderful balance. It has suspense, tragedy, helplessness, trust, love, friendship, devotion, family and the love of the lord. I feel like this author covered it all. If you are looking for a smutty book with very graphic love making scenes this is not the book for you. However if your wants a navy seal who made a few mistakes fall for the country singer who came from a tragic background then this is definitely the book for you.

    Love at first sight

Everything I've read by Jennifer Youngblood has been excellent. She can capture emotions & pull you deep into her story world. This book is filled with tension, drama, wonderful characters & a tender, loving romance. Sitting on my porch, glass of sweet tea in hand, I'm left with the feeling I've just participated in an adventure!

I loved learning about another of these amazing Navy SEALS. Corbin and Delany both bring plenty of baggage into the story. Together they find ways to work through their issues. Pops and Addie are great supporting characters. Lots of tension and action in this story. I love that the characters could learn from each other and grow into the people they were striving to become.

  • Carole

    Protecting the Singer

I enjoyed the chemistry between these two character's, but when corbin's grandfather & sister got involved they made it a little more hilarious to me. The grandfather new the situation but he still wanted to help. Colton had to let go of son anger issues too.

    Wonderful!!

I love this book. It has strong yet damaged characters and a great story. The suspense and the romance keep grabbed me from the beginning. A very entertaining, wonderful book!

  • Pamela

    Great book

I really loved this story, it has everything romance, suspense and action. The characters are awesome and so believable. Can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

  • Jen

    Pretty Good!

A fun romantic ride with a bit of suspense. Loads of steamy scenes and romance. I got a tiny bit tired of all the kissing and wanted more character development and dialogue, just my personal preference. Clean Romance!

    Sweet Suspenseful Romance

Delaney was a rags-to-riches story with an abusive ex-husband that attacks her, but she manages to shoot him and that's when she needs a bodyguard. Corbin's a hot head, but he's pretty perfect for the job. Sweet story of how things work out!
