Noah Walsh is handsome as sin. He’s sweet and smart and successful and sexy—all the best adjectives beginning with “S.” My six-year-old daughter worships the ground he walks on ever since he fashioned her smiley face pancakes out of bananas and blueberries. Oh yeah, and he can cook.
The only problem?
I dumped this great guy a decade ago, right after I wrecked his life.
And boy, this man holds a grudge.
This is Book 1 of the Perfect Guy series, but can be read as a stand alone book.

MyvPerfect Ex Boyfriend is more than I bargained for. I ended up liking this book very much. If I were Bailey, I would berating myself breaking up with the perfect Noah.
What I want more is for Miss Costa to descripe more of Bailey struggle during Noah surgery and her mother illness. The heart break, thd loneliness and the isolation she faced during that time so I can connect more with her struggle.
The story is told from Bailey's POV. Bailey mishap during her time with Noah is also hilarious.
Overall a very good book.
4 stars -
He was the greatest guy ever, the man of her dreams and when things got too hard after a life altering accident, Bailey didn’t just walk out on Noah, she ran. Years have passed, Bailey is now a divorced mother of a sweet little girl and her widowed father has just announced he wants to remarry.
Little did Bailey know, and her father certainly didn’t, but the woman he wanted to marry was Noah’s mother and now they would all be spending a week together in a secluded cabin and Bailey would have to revisit her ghosts, her mistakes and the aftermath of what her leaving did to Noah. Wasn’t it bad enough that she ran from the only man she truly loved into a marriage with a man-child who never understood the concept of growing up?
Noah has come a long way since the accident, now a successful doctor, still handsome, still charming, at least to everyone else. To Bailey, he seethes with anger, hurt and betrayal and it’s had a decade to fester, but this isn’t about them, it’s about their parents, right? Can these two keep their issues at bay for a week? Can Bailey keep her foot out of her mouth that long? And really, did Noah have to be the Dad her daughter never knew?
Annabelle Costa’s MY PERFECT EX-BOYFRIEND is about facing the past, finding/giving closure and moving forward on the path that was meant to be. Lots of humorous, if not sometimes painful moments, a sparkling ray of sunshine in a little girl, trips down memory lane and finally, heart to heart communication.
We live this story through the chaotic jumble that is Bailey’s mind and I need to be perfectly honest, it took awhile for me to actually warm up to the mess that is Bailey. Sure, she was tossed into the lion’s den unarmed, but was it a form of Karma or did Fate have its own plan? Now, Noah was a different story! He got his jabs in, and to be honest, he could have been so much worse! The real Noah was warm, strong and has come through what life has dealt him like a Romance Hero.
No one said love or even “adulting” was easy, but Annabelle Costa’s writing is spot on as she squeezes our hearts just enough to wish for a happy ever after for everyone!
I received a complimentary copy from Annabelle Costa!

such a sweet read 😻
-
unlikable characters with dreadful ending - 2*
Warning - rant ahead. I would offer a spoiler warning here too but really how can one spoil something that is already rotting?
Ok so maybe it was not that bad. But it wasn't good or enjoyable. This is the tale of Bailey and Noah. They met at uni and quickly fell in love. 4 years later they are engaged, she is finishing her last year and he is living in another city going to med school. While driving to see her he gets into a terrible car accident and eventually both legs are amputated. One day she goes to see him and ends up walking out on him, leaving behind her engagement ring. Neither of them really get over it. 10 years later her father surprises her with an engagement to a woman she has never even heard of, and a trip to spend a week at a cottage with the woman and her doctor son. Of course the son is her Noah.
Told entirely in Bailey's voice but with two time frames. The present day while they are not getting along in the cabin, and the past when they are young and in love, through her abandoning him. I think the author was trying to have her sound self-deprecating and funny but for me it fell flat. I thought she was annoying. She is a divorced mother of 6 year old Lily, and a social worker who deals with some disabled clients. She took this job as penance for her leaving Noah. I mean really WTF is that?
The bones of the story are fine. And all the pieces are there to talk about Bailey's depression but it gets glossed over. Her fiance is maimed and not healing well, her mother is having round 4 with breast cancer, she is failing school, not sleeping, and having to go to hospitals when she has a serious phobia of most medical things. Sure what she did was not great but it is understandable.
There are 6 characters in the book. Bailey, Noah, Bailey's father Lenny, Noah's mother Gwen, The ex-husband Theo, and their child Lily. Only Lily was not too annoying. I mean she was but she is 6 so she gets a pass.
Bailey is a weak. She never stands up for herself. Noah keeps making digs about her leaving him because she found him repugnant. She never corrects this hurtful misunderstanding. She is also very poorly behaved. Her rude comments on his disability make no sense given her job.
Gwen is horrible to Bailey. She hates her and makes snide comments directly to her including comments on her parenting. Then suddenly at the end of the book she does an about face and pretty much forces them together.
Lenny is weak too. He does not stand up for his daughter. "oh Bailey is really sorry" is all he can manage. Nothing like "hey I know it was tough for Noah but my daughter was dealing with her mother's terminal cancer and falling into a deep depression so stop treating her like dirt or we can end this house party right now".
Theo - just ugh. too much unbelievable drama from him. Apparently he has a starring role in book two. No thanks.
This is not quite celibate h - manwhore H but it is closer than it ought to be. Bailey has had 3 partners ever. prom date, Noah, Theo. She has been celibate since her divorce. Noah is super hot doctor and has women throwing themselves at him, at least until they know he is a double amputee. Just in the span of the week at the cottage he is hit on by a waitress and a sales clerk. He goes out on a dreadful date with someone from before, and his neighbour suggests a repeat hookup right in front of Bailey. Noah actually flirts back and says he will call. Then within an hour is having sex with Bailey. Yuch.
The ending has Noah suggesting they move in together. But it was not sweet at all. Instead of asking Bailey directly he tells Lily he wants them to move in and explains how awesome it will be. Nothing like manipulating a child.
Oh there was also a completely pointless dig about breastfeeding and how she did it for a year and a half because she didn't know it would make her boobs saggy. -

A funny and poignant read with a fantastic, charming and handsome, wounded hero. Great relationship between Lily, the little girl, and Noah, the hero. Yet, the great improvement I see in this “My Perfect Ex-Boyfriend” is that the author, Annabelle Costa, created a heroine, Bailey, whose wrongs (towards the hero) are completely understandable, unlike what happened with some of her previous heroines. -
I love this new and fresh writing style of this author. Her leads became more edgy lately and I find myself enyoing these novels even more than before.... -
Love all of Annabelle costa books I've read and this one is great too! The story and characters draw you in but it's still a very easy read.

Three and a half stars.
Bailey is a divorced single mother, working as a social worker and barely making ends meet as her ex continues to believe that his band will one day make it big. Then her widowed father announces that he is getting married and he wants Bailey and her daughter Lily to spend the half-term week with him and his bride-to-be at her son's lake cottage.
All is great until Bailey arrives at the cottage to find that her father's fiancé is the mother of her college ex-boyfriend, and the cottage belongs to said ex-boyfriend Noah. No-one made the connection until it was too late, now Noah loathes Bailey and can't stop making snide comments, he even deliberately burns her burger! Bailey can't believe it, Noah is now a successful ER doctor with a swanky car, home in the city, boat and a lake-side cottage while she is sharing a bedroom with her six-year old daughter.
Told through flashbacks we learn how Bailey and Noah met, why they split and why Noah can't forgive her.
This was an enjoyable read, I guess it was a massive coincidence that Bailey's father and Noah's mother meet and fall in love but I thought the set up for why Noah hates Bailey (and why she acted the way she did) was pretty believable. -
Wow this book was Amazing! Definitely had the tears going. When I read the description for this book I was thinking it was going to be just a cute little read. What I got was a lot of Heartache and tears plus some happiness. It has an amazing story line but I'm not going to lie and say it was easy to read. It definitely had some hard parts that really made you think about the decisions you make in life. It was an amazing emotional ride that's for sure!

This is my second Annabelle Costa book. And just like the first book I liked this one too.
This author writes really heart touching books where the hero is usually handicapped. Here we have Noah.
Bailey was his girlfriend, but she left him after the accident. Years later they meet again. The occasion is that both their parents are getting married, and so it is a ‘Getting to know the family’ kind of a picnic. Yes, Noah’s mom and Bailey’s father are getting married.
Now Bailey is a divorcee with a kid. She married a good for nothing wannabe rockstar and then divorced. The ex-husband can’t even provide childcare to their daughter, Lily.
Noah was a sweet character though I did found him irritating sometimes. He was very caring towards Lily. Bailey was not really a likable character. I really hated it when Noah made food for everyone and no one really helped him. I don’t care that he is a host. Not even his mother helped him. Bailey could have helped him. It’s good that she got a burned burger. She deserved it.
My Perfect Ex Boyfriend is a good book. At times I thought some scenes were forced. Like where the girls are hitting on Noah. But they were needed, obviously to show that he is still hot. The title of the book is perfect. It suits Noah. Because he was perfect. -
This is my first book by Annabelle Costa and I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the flow of the story and all the feelings involved and couldn't put this book down.
I was in as much turmoil as Bailey in the pages of this book, she certainly had her share of heartache and trauma in her short life. I could totally sympathise with her and have no idea how I would have dealt with her predicaments at the age she had to deal with them.
Noah is such a lovely man. My heart broke for him, but he's strong. It had to be hard to try to forgive Bailey for her mistakes... ten years later; he's still as wonderful as he was back then and now they are thrust together, along with Bailey's six year old, hilariously stubborn, daughter, Lily. This child is all things a six year old can be, with added sass. Very funny.
What an amazing, thought provoking read. -
3.5 stars
This was an engaging second chance love story with an interesting premise. But I did not like how the heroine dealt things with Noah in the past. I know she had a lot on her plate but she was very immature and too selfish. But the Universe can be a b-i-t-c-h, watch out! Yup! She married Theo…🤭
Jokes aside. The author did well in transitioning between past and present. The storyline was unique. The characters solid. I only wish we could have gotten to see more of romance in the present day. As I think the author didn't redeem Bailey's actions in the eyes of the readers. But it was still a really enjoyable read. -
Enthralling and romantic!
I am a huge fan of Annabelle Costa because of her incredible ability to write incredible romance with unlikely heroes. Her heroes with a disability make most men pale in comparison -except for my wonderful husband of course! I loved reading Bailey and Noah' s reunion romance. So swoon worthy and inspiring! Just warning that there is some strong language and sexual references but the plot is interesting and did I say romantic??!! Very enjoyable read I highly recommend!! -
I love second-chance stories, and this one is one of my faves. Bailey is a likable heroine trying to make it as a single mom, and Noah, her old flame, has a disability that is the reason for their original breakup. His disability is portrayed accurately and realistically, and Bailey's reaction to it, both past and present, were realistic, too. This lent a lot of conflict to the story that kept the plot going and me turning the pages. Highly recommend!

Cute read
Cute read with a hint of serious undertones. I liked this a lot. Especially how I got it for free. -
I have to be honest and say I'm not a fan of the heroine... the things she said and did, ugh. She was so selfish at times it drove me up the wall. Not the worst heroine I have come across but, still not very fun to read about. Thankfully, that was the only thing I didn't like about the novel. The story was great - it even had me smiling and giggling. Not to mention an admirable hero and an adorable little girl. If you're a fan of second-chance romances and don't mind an annoying heroine, then you should give this novel a try.

Though I finished the book, I felt that it lacked depth. The situation wherein Bailey was squeamish at the sight of blood, was, I believe, something that the book can do without.
And for the first time, I didn’t like the character of the child in the story (sorry! Everything about her irritated me)
The only person I admired would be Noah. His character had the most substance in my opinion. -
The standing in line at the grocery store scene had me laughing out loud. This was a well paced story with snappy dialog and humor.

This is one of my favorite Annabelle Costa books. Bailey is a single Mom and she and her daughter, Lily, are going to meet her Dad's finance for the first time on week away in the mountains. Bailey arrives only to learn that her Dad's fiance is her ex boyfriend's Mom and they are staying at her ex boyfriend's house. We find out that Bailey broke up with Noah years ago, shortly after he was in a bad car accident that resulted in him losing both of his legs. He and is still angry about the way and timing of their break up. It doesn't take long to realize that Bailey still has strong feelings for Noah.
I loved this book for several reasons. First of all, the humor was a little dry/sarcastic at times and it actually made me laugh out loud at several points. Secondly, Noah was such a lovable guy, a perfect hero for chick- lit. He was sexy and kind and funny and he had his act together, you can't help falling in love with him. I find that in a lot of books about a guy with a disability, the guy is still living at home with his mom/parents and depending on them not only financially, but for everyday care. I understand that after a traumatic injury someone may have to go through a time period where they are dependent on their parents, but I find it difficult to read chick-lit that takes place during this time. Live in care-givers or nurses are completely fine, but if their Mom is still bathing them and their Dad is still carrying them I just feel frustrated for them and the girl the entire book, like they are back in high school. There are flash backs to when Noah went through a time like this, but the book takes place when he is completely independent of his parents. -
One of the things I love about this author is the way she's able to create characters with some kind of major disability and effortlessly make me fall in love with them. She not only has me looking beyond the disability but somehow has me view it as a positive, endearing aspect of the character and an avenue through which their strength and beauty shines through. I think there may be a real life lesson in that.
Bailey and Noah had their shot at love ten years ago until, under the weight of too much tragedy and too many challenges, Bailey walked away. But now her father is marrying his mother and they're all spending a week together at Noah’s cabin. Sure, Noah is great with her six-year-old daughter, but how can Noah ever forgive Bailey for leaving him during the darkest chapter of his life?
This is another phenomenal read from a truly gifted author. She has a way of weaving a deeply emotional, authentic, inspiring story that casts a spell and captivates the reader from the very start. The characters deal with pain and loss and sadness, but it's low angst for the reader because the thread of hope running throughout promises it will all be worth it in the end. With its realistically flawed but endlessly loveable characters and true to life situations where love still wins in the end, this book is a breath of fresh air in a genre of stale, clichéd tropes. If you’re looking for something heartfelt, touching, uplifting and different in your romance reading, look no farther. This book is it.
*I reviewed this book freely and voluntarily, having made no commitment to provide a review and receiving no compensation of any kind from any source for this review. -
I have to wonder if the author liked her heroine!?
So many times during the book she made the heroine go through hard times and it didn't need to be that emotionally involved on just her.
If I started ticking off all the things I would have spoiled the whole plot.
I guess I kept listening because I was hoping it would get better and it did.
Bailey's daughter stole the show for me and really was why I kept listening.
The cabin and the way Gwen treated Bailey I was very against, I get it I do but come on it she was sooooo young did anyone expect any less? I just sign hate when it feels like all the characters are ganging up on one character doesn't make for a good story in my opinion.
I did enjoy the narration I think Madeleine Dauer did a fantastic job. -
3.5*
Started out a little slow and uncomfortable, but towards the end it turned out like a good chicklit should be. -
A feel good second chance romance with superb writing and amazing characters!
Noah and Bailey were dating in college and madly in love. Tragedy strikes and things painfully fall apart.
They meet again when their parents are getting married and they will be spending a weekend together in a cabin. Bailey is now divorced with a child.
I found myself relating with Bailey (one time a single mom myself, regretting some of the decisions I made in my youth). Even with her poor choices and the hurt she caused Noah, you understand why she did what she did. She’s likable and I love her sense of humor.
Noah was SUPER sexy, masculine, smart, kind—the entire package. I loved everything about him. Noah will forever be one of my favorite book boyfriends.
This is not only a great second chance romance but a nice spin on enemies to lovers that will leave you in love with both Noah and Bailey. One of my favorite reads of 2018! Highly recommend. -
The 'romance' was pretty unbelievable. I can't believe that someone as driven and strong as Noah would have anything to do with his ex-fiancee, Bailey. It just didnt ring true. The romance between Bailey's father and Noah's mother was also somewhat improbable and never really developed.
My real problem with this was Bailey. She never rang true, and to be honest, there is not a cat in hells chance that *I* would forgive someone who had treated me the way she treated Noah, especially after the accident.
Sorry. Dnf at 59% Not rating, but it would be 1 star. (I didn't like it) -
A darker premise that many rom-coms. . Didn't love either Bailey or Noah. Both just ok. Bailey read too weak to me given her backstory; Noah too much of a vindictive d**k early on for his supposedly hidden feelings for Bailey. The charmer here is Bailey's six year old daughter Lily. Costa must have a young daughter because Lily is spot on delightful from her too many cats dress to her "too 'spensive" catchphrase. She steals the show!
-
It was a quick and easy read, the pacing was fine but I really didn't like the main character or her kids both were annoying and the kid was a bit of a brat. I did like Noah he's probably the best character in the whole book.

My Perfect Ex-Boyfriend is a delightful second chance book. The heroine is a struggling, single mom raising her daughter on her own. Her ex-husband is too busy chasing his musical career to pay child support or show up for visitation. Then her widowed father announces his engagement out of the blue. So Bailey and her six-year-old travel to a cabin on the lake in Maryland to visit the fiancee and her son. But Bailey recognizes her dad's fiancee. She is the mother of Bailey's college love, Noah. Bailey did Noah wrong, and he hasn't forgotten. I loved this story for so many reasons. Bailey is remorseful, but she doesn't sugar-coat her bad behavior. Lila, Bailey's daughter, may think Noah is perfect, but Noah isn't above some pettiness. The characters are well fleshed and believable. They have their failings, but they try to do better. This book is one of the best second chances stories that I have read. I would highly recommend it.
-
A good strong 3 stars (3.5). Not the kind I give when I find a book (for some reason) really interesting but because of some errors, inconsistency, etc. I have to lower the rating. But the kind I give when a book is simply good (without fireworks, just smooth, balanced). In other words, I have read books of the first kind (which I sometimes even rated with 4 stars) which authors I am not likely to read again. And I have read also books of the second kind to which authors I am coming back. I think you got the gist ;-)
About "My Perfect Ex-Boyfriend": we, romance lovers, dreams of heroes like Noah [deep sigh...] There were funny moments, there was a bit of sadness (but not overdramatized) and HEA.
It was only my second story by Annabelle Costa but I think she will become one of the authors I pick when I need a break from the longer, more intense books.
