Really liked the F a lot: strong narrative voices that take reader though something with reflection. The NF was more intellectual (explores literature or a theme) and less my personal style—but well written.

Standout was Anastasia Selby's short story, "Certain Fires" that won the 2016 Boulevard Short Fiction Contest for Emerging Writers. It is an amazing story. Incredibly well-paced and constructed. The story instantly sets up a perilous edge and then careens towards it. When you reach it, you are left, what? Angry, empty, saddened, unsurprised? Harm is all we have to offer one another. And it suffocates.

Anastasia is from Washington State. We are lucky to be so well represented. And for this story to receive the attention and recognition that it deserves.
