I love this type of storylines, so it's no wonder I oneclick'ed this one. It was pretty okay story, but.... 1st Henri wasn't alpha enough for me. He was sexy and great guy and all, but he missed that edge, I love in my H. 2nd Jenna... She was strong. You need to be like that, to have a courage to run away and find something better for yourself. And in all there's nothing wrong with her or her reactions and emotions. It just Jennas character isn't something I care about in h. I love them sassy, with backbone and less panicky.

This book is a standalone novella in the Rescue Me Collection and is a romantic suspense.

Jenna Trippleton has lead a hidden and dangerous life and taking a chance to make a safer life for herself, she takes the first bus out of town. She arrives in the small town of Pella and immediately feels drawn to the place and its people. With an quick offer of a job and a place to stay, Jenna can finally relax and be at peace. On her first day at her new job at the pizza parlour, she meets handsome deputy Henri Gunther and sparks begin to ignite between them.

After a promising future, Henry’s dreams were shattered and since then he has stayed clear of relationships. However the new waitress has him rethinking the walls he has built around himself and maybe it was time to take a chance on love again.

This was a fairly instant romance between Jenna and Henri which was quickly established and I would have preferred for the time line to be longer to make it more believable. I also felt the feelings of love were ‘told’ rather than ‘felt’ so a little more depth and angst would have given that. The danger was an added depth though that gave the storyline a dramatic ending.

Overall though this was an engaging and romantic quick read with a good cast of characters for that small town feeling. The plotline was fairly straight forward and no outlandish curveballs thrown in. An enjoyable read. Three and a half stars.

Jenna was running for a new life and a new future, but had no idea if the past would ever catch up to her. The town of Pella is where she ends up and finds that there just may be hope for that new life and future. Pella brings new opportunities, safety, quiet, friends, acceptance, and even potential love when Jenna meets Henri. Henri is a police officer in Pella and instantly finds himself drawn to Jenna. The question is, will Jenna’s past catch up to her and ruin everything for not just her, but for the entire town of Pella? This story is mostly Jenna’s, but it is definitely partially Henri’s as well. Jenna has to learn to accept her own past and the repercussions of that past while recognizing that she isn’t to blame for it. She must learn to grow and become strong enough to face her fears. Henri must prove his acceptance and love by encouraging and sticking with Jenna through thick and thin. While this is a novella that is inherently shorter, it is a full bodied story with enough detail to pull the reader in and make the reader want to believe in Jenna and Henri’s possible future. I am very excited to see where the rest of the Rescue Me novella series will take us. I do have to admit though that this story left me wanting just a bit more whether it was a bit more of what the future held for Jenna and Henri or a bit more about some of the minor characters, I can’t quite decide. I do know I just wasn’t quite ready for the end when it came.

This is the first book that I have read by this author and generally I liked it. I thought the setting for the story was good, the author’s descriptive language was good and I found the story engaging. I have to admit I’m not usually an ‘insta-love’ fan, it suits some stories and I think because this was on the shorter side it worked well. I would have happily read a longer story to be honest. The characters we well developed and I liked them, especially Henri! Jenna was a good female lead and I could tell from early on that if anyone could make Henri settle down it might be her! Their connection was pretty instant. There were a few twists and turns especially towards the end of the book that made it a little more exciting for me.
Overall I thought the story was well written with good characters. I would definitely like to read the other books in the series.

This was the first time that I've read anything by Sheri Velarde and I found her writing style talented & addictive as I enjoyed A Whole New Life quite a bit. It was a shorter story, but it packed an exciting punch. Jenna Trippleton is running from her life when she lands in a small town, to start working as a waitress. Henri is one of the towns boys in blue, who takes an instant liking to the new waitress, and cannot help but to set out to make her his. However, it doesn't take long before Jenna has to make a decision whether she trusts him enough to put her safety in his hands or not. The plot was exciting & kept me on the edge of my seat. And Jenna & Henri were a great heroine/hero combo, while the secondaries were great. I just wish that the story had been longer, as it seemed a bit too rushed in my opinion (let me repeat...THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION)! Anyway, I will be reading more of this author in the future, and HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Jenna arrives in Pella to start a new life with a new identity, escaping from a violent relationship and their criminal business.

Small towns are really great settings as the supporting cast of characters are great and add so much to the story and this set were no exception. They were friendly, welcoming and open to Jenna and bring her to Deputy Henri, which leads to sparks flying. Her past is determined to raise its ugly head and destroy the peace she has found.

A short read but one that packed a punch. It was tense, quirky, fun and full of sweetness and spice all in one go.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Of course, I’m a sucker for anything mafia (if you hadn’t noticed from my own books) so this story piqued my interest. Being from Iowa and familiar with Pella, I was pleasantly surprised of how Sheri portrayed Iowans. Naturally, we have super hot cops like Henri. He was probably my favorite part of the story and I’ll share a pizza with anytime 😉 Overall, the story was well written and kept the reader engaged. Looking forward to more from this author.
