GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT is an in-depth examination of the manner in which the Holy Ghost functions among members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It explains the nature of revelation and shows how one can receive the guidance of the Spirit in his or her daily life. It shows that every individual is promised one spiritual gift, though many more may be available to him. It stresses the scriptural injunctions counseling the Saints to earnestly seek the "best gifts" in order to serve God more effectively. The book will help every person who gives it prayerful consideration to be able to make contact with the Holy Ghost and to partake of the rich spiritual gifts which are available to him. Literally hundreds of examples of the various manifestations of the Holy Ghost are cited from biographies, family histories and other historical records. These combine to make this book a fascinating source of information and faith. Each of the spiritual gifts are set forth in a clear, interesting, well-documented manner. The gifts covered include (1) a testimony of the divinity of Jesus Christ through His personal manifestation; (2) a testimony of Christ's divinity through belief in the witness of others; (3) Godly knowledge; (4) Godly wisdom; (5) faith; (6) faith to heal others; (7) faith to be healed; (8) miracles; (9) helps & governments; (10) revelation; (11) prophecy; (12) speaking in tongues; (13) interpretation of tongues; (14) six gifts of self-expression (speaking, writing, translation, teaching, expounding scriptures, bearing testlimony); (15) administration; (16) diversities of operations; (17) discerning of spirits; (18) repentance; (19) charity, (20) hope, and (21) eternal life. Intensive research of the scriptures forms the basis for the author's careful explanations of each of these gifts. The clear and readable style, chapter summaries, and careful organization make the book a valuable tool for students, teachers, study groups, and scholars within and outside of the LDS Church. The numerous faith-promoting examples cited reveal rich gospel insights in and of themselves. More than 150,000 copies of the book have been read, studied, and widely discussed. This ebook edition will continue its dissemination and stature as a significant contribution to gospel literature. The author, Duane S. Crowther, is widely regarded as a competent and prolific scholar—the creator of such well-known favorites as Life EVerlasting, Prophecy: Key to the Future, The Prophecies of Joseph Smith, Prophets & Prophecies of the Old Testament, Inspired Prophetic Warnings, Jesus of Nazareth: Savior and KIng, The Godhead, They Walked with God, and numerous other religious and scripture-oriented titles. He holds a BA in music education and an MA in Old and New Testament from Brigham Young University, an MBA from the University of Phoenix, and extensive graduate-level studies at the University of Utah. His writings also include numerous works in the field of choral music education. His LDS Church experience includes three full-time missions, three stake missions, and 25 years as a Gospel Doctrines class instructor, plus numerous callings as a choral conductor and many ward and stake responsibilities. He recently returned from service as a member of the Temple Presidency in the Asunción Paraguay Temple where he also served as Temple Recorder and a Sealer. He and his wife, Jean D. Crowther, are the parents of eight children. They have 29 great grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren are here with many more anticipated. Jean also is well known as the creator of the cross-stitch patterns for most of the Latter-day Saint Temples.

Gifts of the Spirit Reviews

One of my "Sunday" reads over the last few months. The volume I read was at times dry but still very methodical and to the point.

  • Jen

Beautiful, inspiring, motivating, book about the gifts of the spirit as outlined in the scriptures.
