Fresh starts, hope, and happily ever afters…

Nurse Sage Nichols life changed when she lost her favorite patient and inherited a bed and breakfast in a town she didn’t know existed. She traveled to Aspen Cove intent to sell so she could hurry back to her life in Denver. Little did she know, she was about to find everything she ever needed in the tiny mountain town with a big heart. Sage found herself in a place where caring for your neighbor was a way of life. In her case, that happened to be surly Cannon Bishop, the man of her dreams.

Cannon Bishop was a man who learned long ago that hope was a dangerous thing. Closed off from the world after a family tragedy, Cannon lived a lonely life as the owner of Aspen Cove’s only bar and son to the town drunk. When Sage Nichols breezed into town, she offered the possibility of more if he’d only open his heart. Cannon's protective walls tumble and suddenly a brighter future of healing, hope, and peace was possible… if only Sage would stay.

    Favorite Quotes:

…the air was filled with a scent that seemed to be synonymous with the elderly. Sage tried to figure the smell out, but the closest thing she could ever come up with was Bengay for arthritis mixed with contraband candy.

She confiscated the candy and reminded David Lark that a man with diabetes shouldn’t feed his disease. “Come on! I gave up women. I gave up alcohol. I gave up swearing. I’m dying.” He watched her tuck the candy bar into her pocket.

When Sage opened her mouth, the man popped a Life Saver from its wrapper straight into it. The cherry flavor coated her tongue. She wasn’t sure if it was supposed to ease the pain or shut her up. It did both.

I work for peanut butter cups and Skittles… I’m cheap, but I’m not easy.

She’d arrived and disrupted his status quo, making him realize it had been status woe.

    My Review:

I adored this sweet small-town romance as I have every other Kelly Collins book I have ever picked up. Her characters tend to be flawed, wounded, endearing, and doing their best in a difficult situation and the main characters of this entertaining tale, Cannon and Sage, fit this description as well. The storylines were fresh, relevant, emotive, and thoughtfully observant with hits of humor and steam. I am excited about this new series of stand-alone stories and am already looking forward to the next installment.

One Hundred Reasons (An Aspen Cove Romance Book 1) by Kelly Collins I won from Kindle Scout. It is not my type of reading genre but I voted for it because I thought it would win, it did, and I got the book. Although I don't normally read romance books unless it has a paranormal feature this was pretty good. A sweet and tender romance with a feel good ending. I guess it is good to get out of my box once in a while!

One Hundred Reasons is the first book in the Aspen Cove series. Each book that follows can be read as a complete standalone. This book is a very sweet romance. It's not all about the sex (it's not prevalent throughout the story) but rather is about a woman and man finding themselves and falling in love. This is the first book I have read from Kelly Collins and I plan to continue the series because I enjoyed it so much. If you are a kindle unlimited subscriber and looking for a sweeter romance that is love on sex and drama and more about just finding love, this is the book for you! I really enjoyed it.

This is the first story in the Aspen Cove series and it was perfect weekend reading for me.

Sage works in the aged care ward at her local hospital, nursing elderly people who are at the end of their life. She used to work in maternity but when her mother was admitted to the aged care ward, years ago, she decided that spending as much time caring for her mother in the last months of her life was where she wanted to be.

Sage has a huge heart but a sensitive soul so each time she loses a patient she really feels the loss deeply. None more so than the recent loss of Bea. She is so affected that she is asked to take leave for a while. However, during the meeting with her boss she is given a letter written by Bea. Sage lives with her sister who also works at the same hospital as an ER doctor. They are like passing ships in the night as they work opposite shifts and don’t get to spend much time together. When Sage shares with her sister the content of Bea’s letter, she gets a firm but kind shove out the front door to fulfill Bea’s request.

Bea has left her B&B homestead at Aspen Cove to Sage. Initially Sage’s only intention is to visit the small town, pay her respects at Bea’s funeral and head back to her sister. However, the first 24 hours in Aspen Cove do not go as planned and she finds herself staying for much longer, along with her 3 legged dog Otis. Sage makes friends with Katie, another person who was led to Aspen Cove by Bea.

As Sage gets more immersed into the small town she also finds something special with Cannon Bishop, the local bar owner and her neighbour. Her first impressions of him were not so good but he has definitely improved over time. Something is growing between them and even though neither of them were looking for love it is definitely trying to find them. It seems that Bea had an exit plan to bring life back into Aspen Cove and even though she is no longer here, her ability to bring people together is still working it’s magic.

There are 13 full length novels and a bonus novella in this series so I’m thinking that the population of Aspen Cove will probably double by the time Bea’s work is done :)

‘This thing between us. It’s been more of a storm than the one outside. You struck me like lightning. You washed over me like rain. You rattled me to the core like thunder. I’m afraid of losing everything.’

If you follow me on the regular then you know I love small-town romances. There is just something about them that calls to me. I like the connection between all the people in the series. So when I was asked if I'd like to try a new author I said, sure. I wasn't going to start it right away but I'm guessing you figured out that I did.

    I'm so weak!

I kinda needed a break from all the space aliens I have been reading. Those reviews are coming soon. Now back to this one. Like I mentioned this is the first time I've ever read of this author and it won't be the last. In fact, I already downloaded the second book in the series to read.

I will start out by saying I love the idea of the series. Or at least how the series started. I don't know how much Bea gifts will affect the stories to come. The heroine was given this wonderful gift and I was thrilled for her. I didn't care for how she was treated at her job but I understood that it was needed to get her to go to her new home.

I love Cannon and feel for him and what he's going through. The crap he has to deal with over his father's life choices is rough to read about at times. I really felt for him. I was so happy when he finally had someone to help him deal with all the crap. Sometimes it takes someone outside the situation to deal with things that family can't.

For the most part, the romance between Sage and Cannon runs pretty smoothly. They don't have a ton of roadblocks in their way. I kind of like the uncomplicated romance between them. It made for a very sweet read. Now saying that doesn't mean there isn't any sexy time between them because there is, it just means that they together are sweet.

As a start of a series, this was a good one. I really think you'll enjoy the characters and love when Sage gives her "Sage advice", one of my favorite parts of the book. I also liked how she brought in someone to help Sage get through the move in the form of a friend called Katie. Her book is next so I'm looking forward to her story. Also, an abused woman was mentioned and I'm looking forward to learning more about that. Plus there is Sage's sister. Just a thought I wonder if we'll have her story? I'm not going look ahead, I want to find out through reading the series.

For those of us that love small-town romance you'll really enjoy this one.

Where are my small town romance fans at? How about Virgin River? I discovered VR late last year and it’s one of my favorite romance series now and I’m always looking for another one that has a similar vibe. Guess what?! I found one in the Aspen Cove series 🙌🏻 It’s definitely not exactly the same and I wouldn’t want it to be anyway, but it had a similar feel to it and everything I love about VR can be found here too. Also? This series already has twelve books so I can binge read and be satisfied for awhile still. Another bonus for me (especially right now) is she’s an indie author and I’m trying my best to support them through the craziness in the world.

I’ve come to realize that for me to really connect with a romance novel it needs a few key things. First, I love a small town with quirky characters and plenty of charm. I also need the lead characters to be interesting and have relatable flaws and struggles and I also need to believe their chemistry together. If there’s a great balance between humor and heart and cute romance and sex, I’m in. This one had everything I listed, Aspen Cove sounds idyllic based on the name alone and while it has a lot going for it, it’s nowhere near perfect and neither are the residents. They have real issues and problems as do Sage and Cannon and their chemistry was 🔥 from the moment they met. I laughed plenty, and while there was some sex, I wouldn’t call this steamy. I feel like it really had a little bit of everything and for me, that’s exactly what I like! Definitely recommend this one, the whole series is on kindle unlimited too and I can’t wait to keep reading.

A good heart warming story about two people who are trying to learn to live for themselves. She is a kindhearted woman with a Savior complex. Always needing to try to save people/animals. After having an emotional breakdown after the death of one of her favorite patients, she is put on leave from her job as a nurse. She must decide what she wants to do with herself and what will make her happiest. He gave up his dreams to take care of his father after the death of his mother. Fighting a losing battle. He has an armor surrounding his heart, after seeing what love can do to a person. Being the giver and savior that she is, tries to help him see, he needs to open up and live for himself, but can she take her own advice. After getting off to a bad start, these two enemies find themselves helping each other in more ways than one. The story moves at a slow pace (in a 'stop and smell the roses' kind of way,) yet reads rather quickly. The characters have some complexities. There are some up and downs they go through. For the most part it is lighthearted, but there are some serious subjects covered. Alcoholism, and domestic abuse, as well as death (and dealing with the death of a loved one.) There is some sexual content, but it is minimal and not too graphic. I'd say it is safe for 16+. There are some endearing moments (many involving the heroine's older, grandma like patient that had past away.) There are some humorous moments as well, though it's not a rom-com.

I don’t quite know what to say. I loved this so much, but my brain refuses to cooperate with me and give me the processing capability to come up with more than: it’s so sweet, and so precious, and so a-freakin-dorable! I love reading small town books for the sense of community and family; a slice of classic Americana peopled with a cast of quirky characters that feel like your own relatives and friends. Be prepared for the full emotional roller-coaster, you're about to be taken for a ride because there will be laughter, there will be tears, there will be "squee"s and there will be "awe"s. I loved watching Sage and Cannon grow past their first impressions and all the baggage they’re carrying. I can’t wait to read the rest of the stories from Aspen Cove.

This book was an awesome surprise! I haven't read any of the author's books before so at first I was reserved going into it. I've read the blurb and it was promising and seemed right up my alley, so I dove in... and let me tell you I was hooked page after page.

    Like I said, awesome surprise!

The main characters drove me nuts and frustrated the hêćk outta me, but overall I enjoyed it and had butterflies in tummy!

It's a heartwarming small town, enemies to lovers romance. I'm not going to repeat whats in the blurb... Just know that if you want something to read to ease the stress of the day away, or just simply want to escape from life, this is the book or series to pick up next.

    I definitely recommend!

Where do I begin to tell you how good One Hundred Reasons is? It's the story of a burned out geriatric ward nurse named Sage. She is so dedicated to her patients and her job that it has consumed her life. After the passing of one of her favorite patients, Sage is devastated and put on leave and a transfer list by her supervisor. There is also a bit of a surprise left to Sage by her late patient, a home in the mountain town of Aspen Cove. Sage is on leave from nursing so she heads to this small town to see why her patient left her a home and why it is so special about this town her patient wanted her to live there. One of her first encounters is with a sexy but surly man named Cannon. Since it's a small town no matter how hard Sage tries she cannot avoid running into this exasperating man and to find out that he is her neighbor is the last thing that she expected. Cannon is a man consumed by his past. His life has not turned out as he expected. He owns and runs the only bar in town and feels as though he has been handed the short end of the stick in life. H doesn't have much faith in anyone, least of all the cute but unknown outsider named Sage. Kelly Collins has written a contemporary romance full of interesting characters, funny banter, tender moments and plenty of heat! One Hundred Reasons is told in dual POV and I highly recommend this wonderful story. I cannot wait to see what story unfolds next in this series!

  • Amy

One Hundred Reasons is the first book in the Aspen Cove Series and it follows the story of Sage and Cannon. Sage is the most caring nurse in her department. Some might say she cares a little too much. And when she loses her favorite patient, Sage quickly finds that her world has been turned upside down. She never imagined herself inheriting a bed and breakfast in a small town. Her plan is simple: go to Aspen Cove and sell the property as quickly as she can so she can return back to her life as she knows it. But, what she didn’t plan on was getting swept up in the small town charm….Cannon is man that hasn’t had any hope in a long time. He is no stranger to tragedy and has closed himself off to the world. But when Sage blows into town, he suddenly finds himself wanting to open up and hope again. With Sage around, his world seems brighter and filled with possibility. The only problem….Sage isn’t planning on staying…

Overall, I thought this book was a quick and enjoyable read. I thought it was written well and had a good pace. The characters were real and perfectly flawed. They capture your interest immediately and leave you wanting to know more about their story. I loved Cannon and Sage. Sage had the biggest heart and when she loved someone, she loved hard. And when she loses her favorite patient, it forces her to reexamine her life and figure out who she is meant to be and what she is meant to do. And meeting Cannon was just what the doctor ordered. He was her total opposite and they butted heads quite a lot. Cannon’s walls are sky high, but if anyone has a chance of breaking those walls down, it certainly is Sage.

One Hundred Reasons is exactly what I’m looking for in a sweet, small town romance. One Hundred Reasons had the perfect balance of sweet romance, with a little drama and of course some steamy moments. This is my first read by this author and I am looking forward to checking out more books from her in the future.

This was my first time reading Kelly Collins and I'm so glad this series was brought to my attention because ONE HUNDRED REASONS is absolutely fantastic!

Sage Nichols is heartbroken when her elderly patient, Bea, passes away. Sage loves being a nurse but watching all those that she has cared for leave, is really taking a toll on her. So when she discovers that Bea has left her a B&B in her will, Sage plans to go and see the place and then sell it as soon as she can. But when she travels up to Aspen Cove, it doesn't exactly go to plan. She makes a new friend, deals with a very handsome albeit rude man called Cannon, and gets a broken nose, and that's just on day one. Add in a beautiful and rustic cabin by the lake, the local drunk, some very vocal guests, and a man that gets under her skin like no one has ever done before, and Sage must make some difficult decisions. Can she leave her old life behind and find a happier life here in Aspen Cove like Bea wanted? Or will she end up with a broken heart?

The setting is beautifully depicted in this story and I could picture Aspen Cove perfectly in my mind, but it is the richness of the characters that really made this romance special. Sage is so caring and compassionate but working as a nurse was slowly destroying her, and Bea recognised this and wanted to make her life better. But Sage is not a pushover and I loved her feisty and determined side too. Cannon has gone through a lot in his life and it was lovely to see him slowly open up and be vulnerable with Sage. The community of Aspen Cove is everything you could wish for and more (I would move there in the morning!), and getting to know all of the other characters has left me very excited to read the rest of this series!

ONE HUNDRED REASONS by Kelly Collins is the kind of romance that gets under your skin and warm your heart in every possible way. A superb romance from start to finish.

    2 .5 / 5

This was a very cheesy and occasionally cringy romance read. My book kryptonite is small town settings, with the crazy small towners who stick their nose into other people's business. And I got a lot of that in this book, which I adored.

This had all the potential for a real good slow burn, as the main characters don't have the best first encounter, but the 'grouchy' Cannon Bishop quickly lost his somber nature. I wish there had been more build up in terms of the relationship, I didn't really get a good feel for them before it ended.

I also did not enjoy the main character Sage, RN who was described as a 'bleeding heart', always there for others. This was a case of spoken not shown, because Sage often came across as judgmental and immature, her chapters made it often hard for me to finish it.

The setting had so much potential, but the main character and lack of development let it down.

The worst thing though, was that the big 'drama' that dragged the characters to the town, felt like it had no end. Impersonal feeling letters addressed to the characters just doesn't do it for me, that entire plotline seemed to be contrived just to move the characters where the author wanted, and didn't serve any other purpose. It had all the potential to be an absolute heartbreaker, but the author had vague one-liners written on pink paper instead.

*I received this book free from Show Me Edits.*

Sage's biggest flaw was that she cared too much. It was a weakness where she worked, but someone was looking out for her and knew exactly what she needed...even if she didn't. All she had to do was give it a chance.

Cannon has lost too many people, and in order to protect his heart he closed it off. Focused on just getting by and doing what he had to, including taking care of his father, the bar, and the bait shop. He was turning into a cankerous old man.

    "I trust everyone until I can't."

"I trust no one until I can."

    ...maybe opposites do attract.

He didn't want to want the new fiery redhead in town. He wanted his status quo. But sometime you get what you need, instead of what you want. And Sage is exactly what he, his father, and the town needed. Of course they are exactly what she'd been needing in her life too.

One Hundred Reasons reminded me of watching a Hallmark mini series. I can only image the rest of the Aspen Cove series would continue the engrossing storyline. The characters are all loveable in their own way and it makes you want to see each and every single one get their own happily ever after like Sage and Cannon.

Of course it's not all sunshine and roses. There's a black eye...or two, an emergency delivery, and a few drunken escapades that made my heart tighten. Never a dull moment that's for sure.

Audiobook Review: One Hundred Reasons (An Aspen Cove Romance, #1) by Kelly Collins (Author), Logan McAllister (Narrator)

One Hundred Reasons draws inspiration from the heartaches of life. Collins proves there is a bright side to life's painful moments. Sage and Cannon have seen their share of tragedy. For Sage it comes with the territory. As a nurse, she gets to see how precious and unfair life can be. Cannon is still reeling from his brush with heartbreak. There is no recovering from the blow dealt his way. Until a stranger comes to Aspen Cove and touches the pieces of himself, he thought forever broken. One Hundred Reasons awakens the butterflies of the heart to the hope in your soul.

  • Jamie Rhodes

This is the first book in what appears to be an awesome series. Sage and Cannon are just the first characters that are going to give us a few hours of relaxing (well when they aren't being stupid) peace. I found that I enjoyed the characters and the sleepy little town of Aspen Cove. I'm eager to see how this plays out. You get a feeling of home as you begin to get to know these people. Dual point of view. No cliffhanger.

  • Paige Smith

Kelly Collins has written the start of another fantastic series. One Hundred Reasons had my emotions all over the place as I read it.

It is a beautiful, heart-warming story set in a small mountain town with many possibilities. Sage and Cannon are well written, and I completely fell in love with Aspen Cove. I'm excited to read the next book in the series.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

I read this book back at the beginning of October and I've read so many books since then that I don't really remember this one. But I do know I enjoyed it enough to get more books by this author.
I would probably remember it better if I gave it more time but I'm trying to get all my 2018 reads in by the end of today.

  • Christine~justlovemybooks.com blog~

How many books are just sitting on your Kindle or bookshelf just waiting to be read? For me, there is way too many to count. While this book wasn't nearly on my Kindle as long as a lot of others, it was there too long as far as I'm concerned. I am kicking myself for waiting so long to read this, even though, truthfully, it couldn't be helped. This has been a tough year. Everything normal in my life has been altered, including my reading time. But I'm finally there, for now at least. After I read One Hundred Reasons not only did I find a new series to binge, I found a new author to love. Everything about this book spoke to all my literary desires. All the feels are present, some angst, some mystery and a town filled with loyal, caring, lovable characters. Even the flawed, cantankerous, characters found their way into my heart. This book made me smile; I was often sad and heartbroken as well. I had a memorable reading experience with this. In fact, right after I read the last page, I downloaded the next book in the series which I am already halfway through.

Aspen Cove appears at first glance, a sad town. Desolate, quiet, pitiful. Looks can often be deceiving and in this case they certainly were. I won't go into any details because you need to experience this amazing story, amazing town and its residents all on your own. Because this book is the start of the series, it is packed with details, characters, a bit of mystery and the perfect introductions. I want to visit Aspen Cove; I want to live there.

While the one person who ties everything together isn't actually there, you can feel her presence everywhere.

This is Sage and Cannon's story. Sage is such a caring individual you couldn't help but love her from the first pages. And while Cannon appears at first a big grump, there are good reasons for that. In my opinion, his character was the most vulnerable. His situation made my heart hurt. These two don't get off to a good start but that changes quickly enough. Cannon is a hero you won't soon forget. And he deserves everything good life can give him.

The next book in the series is about town newcomer Katie and Cannon's brother Bowie who for good reasons, left town ten years earlier. And since I'm already halfway through it, I'll tell you that that is another emotional story with the same loving small-town dynamic.

These books are stand-alones but I would recommend you start at the beginning to have the best experience.

You know when you read that book that speaks to your heart, connects you to the story in a way that the book is all you can think about for hours, days after you read it? Well, One Hundred Reasons is one of those books for me.

This is my honest and unbiased review and I that you for taking the tie to read it. :)

  • Stacie

One Hundred Reasons, by Kelly Collins, is a contemporary romance with strong characters in an ideallic setting. I was hooked in to the story of Sage, a nurse working the night shift in a geriatric hospital ward - from the first chapter. This was surprising to me because modern, real-world stories don’t often draw me in; my preferred genres are usually fantastical or historical in nature.

But perhaps what got me to keep turning the pages was the strength of this story’s characters; Sage is a fiercely independent young woman who obviously cares for others both on and off the job, but struggles to understand and express her own emotions. When her favorite patient, Bea, dies - Sage is left an unexpected gift from her - the ownership to a Bed and Breakfast in the small mountain town of Aspen Cove. Sage had heard stories of Aspen Cove from Bea in the hospital, but never knew it was a place that actually existed.

The story that unfolds could easily be imagined as a Hallmark Movie; Sage visits Aspen Cove and meets a single young man named Cannon who is described as both good looking and emotionally unavailable. Of course, complicated feelings ensue - and both young protagonists will need to deal with their mixed emotions, including their developing love for each other. Sage also needs to decide what to do with the business that she has inherited, and whether or not she will stay in Aspen Cove. Will she choose her practical career in the city? Or will she follow her heart?

In the end, this is a romance novel that, while predictable as any Hallmark Movie, is still an enjoyable read. Collins made me care about her characters enough to finish the book to the last page - even though I already knew it would have the “happy ending.” I also enjoyed the ideallic, mountain setting of Aspen Cove; it’s the kind of place that everyone would like to visit, and some people will want to stay. Undoubtedly, many fans of contemporary romance will be happy to pick up this book, and look forward to their next trip to Aspen Cove.

    Welcome to Aspen Cove

ONE HUNDRED REASONS is the first book in Kelly Collins' ASPEN COVE series. It was a wonderful, heart-warming, sweet, and spicy start to the series. From the very beginning this story really pulled at my heartstrings.

This story is about Sage Nicholas and Cannon Bishop, as they try to find their way and learn how to live their lives for themselves, rather than for others. Sage is at a crossroad in her life. She is a kind, soft-hearted woman, who just cares too much for those around her. After the death of a beloved friend, she is given the opportunity of a lifetime when she inherits a bed and breakfast in a small country town. Once there, she is determined to sell up and move back to the city, except different tasks have her putting off her date to leave. Cannon is a man who gave up his dream life to care for his father after an horrific accident ten years earlier changed their lives forever. Cannon has closed himself off from others and from love ... determined not to lose another loved one.

Sage and Cannon's introduction to one another is not exactly made of dreams, he's gruff, rude, and arrogant, giving Sage the wrong impression of him. As time passes, they form a friendship, but not everything is smooth sailing though. Theirs is a slow-burn love story, one in which Sage must decide what makes her happy, and Cannon must learn how to remove the armour from around his heart and let himself love again.

ONE HUNDRED REASONS is one that highlights community support, friendship, and perseverance. There's laughter, tears and frustration, and a cast of characters that you will grow to love. The friendship that develops between Sage and Katie is endearing, the abruptness and leadership of Dr. Parker and the drunkenness and assistance of Ben, all show how small-town America is close-knit and supportive.

Throughout this story Ms Collins introduces many other residents of the town ... I can't wait to read some of their stories. This was an absolute delight to read. Now onto Katie's story ... ONE HUNDRED HEARTBEATS.

One Hundred Reasons was a beautiful love story that took place in a small town of Aspen Cove. The storyline was so good, fairytale like, and kept you interested. Aspen Cove was a little town with a big heart. The townspeople were an unique bunch but cared for all. Cannon and Sage were amazing together, loved them! I can’t wait for One Hundred Heartbeats!

Sage was a nurse it was a job she loved. She took a job in the geriatric ward to be closer to her dying grandmother, just to be able to spend more time with her in her final hours. When her grandmother past, Sage realised that helping others brought her joy even though she wanted them all to live forever. It was only when Bea, Sage's favourite patient had died while she was away that she found it hard to let the patients go.
Little did she know that the bright pink stationary that she had been bringing in for Bea would make such a difference to not only her life but everyone that received one of the letters.
Sage found herself traveling to Aspen Cove, this was where Bea had owned a B&B but had left the deeds to her, she was going to go there just to see it before she sold it on. She was a nurse in Denver what did she know about running a B&B in a small town she had never even heard of.
When she arrived things didn't go to plan, she met Katie Middleton, a young lady from Texas, they had an instant liking for each other. Then Cannon Bishop stormed into her path and her visit to Aspen Cove turned worse. She didn't want to stay in a small town with small minded rude people, she would be out of there by morning. It was only after meeting Cannon's dad Ben that Sage had to meet up with Doc Parker. He told her about the way the resident's of Aspens Cove lived, just helping each other to survive.
Would Sage be able to stay in such a small town? Was there a good enough reason for her to stay? Katie needed her help at first. Could she leave her new friends Katie, Doc and the Sherrif? The longer she stayed the more she felt at home. Sage came to realise that her sister was OK without her living in the basement and she was OK looking after what Bea had given her. She knew there must be a reason that she had been given the B&B. Was it like they told her it was because she wasn't a quitter or did Bea have other reasons for sending her to Aspen Cove?

    What happens?
Sage is 'let go' from her nursing job because her boss believes she cares too much about patients; patients that are terminal and are there to die basically. When Sage's favourite patient dies she gets upset and is missing from her duties for a short time which leads her boss to recommend she transfers back out of the ward and onto somewhere else; however no where is hiring and shes got no money coming in. When it is revealed that her favourite patient left her something and tells her in a letter to go to Aspen Cove Sage has little choice but to go to try and start a new life for herself.
Cannon Bishop is the first unfortunate soul to meet Sage and leaves her with a bad impression of him and his father. Cannon is convince Sage is going to leave and doesn't want any part of her life but their situations keep being pushed together when Sage decides to try and help his dad overcome addiction and save their relationship.
    Final thoughts
This was very sweet. Once you peeled the grumpy away from Cannon he was a very nice character; it does take some peeling and he doesn't give you the best first impression. I did sympathise as hes dealing with a lot of stress and Sage doesn't really help matters completely at the start.
Sage is an interesting character also a little frustrating but also kind of funny and enjoyable to see her winding Cannon up.
Their romance did kind of spring a bit fast, it wasn't really there but attraction and then wham they seem to be in bed. Maybe just me? But I did still enjoy reading this book.
