The Pooh Party Book Reviews
-
I can't help but think that no one goes to this much trouble to create a party anymore. Doesn't everyone just wander to the nearest outlet store and grab all the goods ready to go? What a sad thought!
I loved this book. I enjoyed the idea of spending three weeks solid creating invitations, decorations, food, and games all themed to everyone's favorite bear. In fact, I find myself wanting to do a Winnie-the-Pooh party. :D Who knows, I might!
The recipes are great! Parents might blanch a bit at some of the directions for making things, especially when you realize you're supposed to be giving children knives and sharp objects and encouraging them to be creative. It makes me realize how free we were back when I was a child, to just do what I wished with whatever was handy to make things. I could go on endlessly about how this has changed and everything must be "find an adult to cut this for you" - and yet as a parent don't I also cringe at giving children something they might hurt themselves with? I think the difference is that I prefer to take the time to show the kids how to create SAFELY rather than assume they can't....
As I said, I could go on endlessly....
I love all the old games in here. With lots of twists to make them work for the parties we see things that remind one of Red Rover and numerous other things we actually used to PLAY when we were kids. Again, does anyone do these things anymore? Oh, I hope they do...!
So, if you spot this, then get ready for some fun. There's lots of great ideas here, all just begging to be played out. Who's up for a party?
