Excerpt from The Town Otisfield, Harrison, Naples and Sebago, 1906

The group of towns included in this work are located in one of the most picturesque districts of New England, and comprise within their borders a variety of scenery varying almost from that of the sea-shore to the View from a moun tain height. Bordering the waters of Sebago Lake are large areas of low, sandy timberlands, where a century ago were cut drives of logs which were floated to within a respectable distance of the open markets. Back from the shores of this lake begin to rise numerous ridges and elevations, the begin ning of the famous Oxford Hills, which pass on and up in their broken ascent to the majestic, snow-clad summit of Mount Washington. Considerable heights are reached with in these towns. Within three miles of Harrison village, a broad ridge rises to the height of 880 feet above the sea, the highest elevation in Cumberland county. From this. Place one has a fine prospect of the surrounding country.

From Sebago to the White Mountains, and to the north and east, the country spreads out In a broad panorama of hill and valley, set with many sparkling lakes and silvery streams, with Long Lake presenting the appearance of a broad flowing river.
