What can I say? I love crazy guys. Cole is by far my favorite of all of the MoN characters. His self-confidence and moral-grayness intrigue me, and his reasons make him admirable.

I was surprised by Rachel in this story. The author presented the character's situation as more than meets the eye, and it brought Rachel alive.

Though I enjoyed the first two books, I connected more with this one because of the characters. Characters make or break a story for me.

With this being book 2.5, there was some recap from book 2 with scenes from a different POV, but also a lot of new information pushing the story forward. It was a quick read and easy to get into.

Marked as to read. Can't wait.

I'm not usually a turncoat and I'm normally more loyal to those I love; but I have to admit that within half a second upon finishing Honesty by Carrie Butler, that I have a new male love in my life. Ahhh, Cole Blake, how I love thee! About three quarters of the way through Honesty I realized I fell in love with the bad ass Blake twin about halfway through the first chapter but couldn't actually accept my betrayal to the stronger of the two (oh my dear Wallace, I'm so sorry) until the end.

I'm also not usually a fan of in between books because I find them kind of repetitive just relating the exact same story you just read in the previous or latter books in the series, and to me, that's far too boring. But let me tell you! Carrie Butler can write a great book! Honesty is far from boring and I loved it!!

Butler has a way of bringing the characters to life before your eyes and snatching you out of reality and dropping you directly into the storyline! Your heart speeds up when something awesome is about to happen or when your friends are in danger. I say your friends because that's what they become almost immediately! You can almost feel the pain the Blake boys and Hell, even Rachel, go through, the worry for their friends and family that Gabby and Rena have for Aiden, and you pretty much wanna junk punk a few of the people the characters want to as well! I am even quite fond of Tits; Cole's BFF! Rachel, I think, is going to be a great character to get to know even more in the future...at least I hope so. I can see her being a great support system for Cole (my new book crush...mhmmm, I said it!), and his team. Maybe something like Rena only more gentle? Still, I can see her as someone you won't want to mess with after Cole gives her the confidence she needs to stomp anyone out who messes with those she loves! I really can't wait to see in all....Honesty, LOL. See what I did there?

Basically Honesty is an entirely different book from the series, in my opinion. It's from the perspective of Cole and while it does mention and line up with parts from the other two books in the series, Strength and Courage, it delves crazy deep in the mind of Cole and has an entirely separate storyline that shines on him and his doings. It explains why he seems bat shit crazy and shows him to be a pretty much all around good buy that has on way more than one occasion let his junk get him into deep water!

There were some fantastic lines in the book as well! Some that come to mind upon first think:

“So, you wanna see my burned nipples?” and Subtle, you little cockblock...

There were also a couple scenes devoted to Cole making a faux sex tape to be used as blackmail and yours truly makes an entrance! No, not really but it is my name and “Jovon” does get to have some freaky sex with the sexy Mr. Blake, so just let me live through the crazy ass character with my name for a moment, okey dokey? LOL.

I really enoyed Honesty by Carrie Butler and this review could go on and on with me gushing about Cole, so instead of ruining the book, I'll leave this review with some great advice, if I say so myself....

Go get yourself a copy of Honesty and read it! Then, like the rest of those of us who have read the series, enjoy falling in love with the Blake twins and team Wallacolena!

This book was so much fun! From beginning to end I was laughing nonstop! Cole’s point of view is just hysterical and even in the most serious of circumstances he is still funny. He just has such a wildly inappropriate humor about him that is pretty much impossible to resist. I loved Cole to begin with, but now I love him even more.

Cole is one of my favorite characters ever and there really is so much more to him than meets the eye. His actions may not always be the right course, but his motivations always come from a good place. He really tries to do the right thing; unfortunately for him things don’t always go as planned. While Cole always seems ready with a joke, underneath that he does take things seriously and there is a lot on his plate that he is constantly dealing with.

The first half of Honesty’s timeline overlaps with Courage and it was interesting seeing some of those events from Cole’s point of view. He was doing a lot of things Rena and Wallace were unaware of. Things that were very important and very helpful. He really is an integral part of bringing ERA down and Rena and Wallace need him more than they probably realize.

In Honesty, Cole also meets a love interest and this love interest shakes things up for him. She really gives Cole a run for his money and she is exactly what he needs. Rachel is awesome and the perfect balance for Cole. She makes him want to think before he acts and measure the consequences of his actions. But Rachel needs him too, which is what makes them work so well. There is a lot more I want to say about them, but spoilers, so yeah. But I just love them together.

Honesty is the best book in the Mark of Nexus series yet! Cole’s point of view is sharp, witty, and downright hysterical. If he wasn’t already my favorite character, he definitely would be now. There is so much more to Cole than anyone would ever guess. Cole steals the show and will have readers going: “Wallace who?”

    4 stars!

Well, this series just keeps getting better and better. And though this was a novella, a long novella (not complaining at all), Honesty was a perfect addition to this wonderful series! It was also such a fun read! Being inside Cole’s head was an experience; an experienced I just loved!

This book also made me realize how happy I am I picked up this series (which I can thank a wonderful book bloggy friend for raving about this book which lead me to starting it). Honesty is pack with tons of humor, action, a little romance, awesomeness, and character growth.

I love Cole! I really loved his character in the first two books, but now, now I can say I really, really love his character! He is such a complex guy and he definitely has many layers to him. What I loved about Honesty is that I really got to see Cole. And that allowed me to understand him in ways I couldn't before. Yes, Cole is a crude character and he might not always make the brightest decisions, but he’s heart is always in the right place. And that’s one reason he is one of my all-time favorite characters. He has such a big heart and he loves his family; and he would do anything for them.

The book does take place during and a little after the second book, which was perfect in my opinion. I got to see scenes that took place in Courage from Cole’s POV, which, in my opinion, added more depth to the overall story. The pacing was done really well and how everything played out was well done too! The world that Carrie has created is just getting more complex and deeper. I also loved that we got to meet some different characters from Cole’s life and a maybe love interest that will be very good for Cole!

What I loved most about this book was discovering just who Cole is. He really is a complex character with a big heart. And he really did grow a lot in Honesty. I am glad I got to see and experience his development. Honesty allowed me to understand him. All in all, I loved this novella! I'm so happy Carrie gave her readers a chance to really meet Cole.

I just love this series. It is a hidden jewel in the world of NA paranormal romance. It is one of a handful of paranormal series in the New Adult/mature YA age group that has helped rekindle my love for paranormal romance. The series is original and action-packed, and while I loved Strength and Courage, Honesty, which is Cole's story, captured my heart. I liked Cole a little in Strength, a lot in Courage, but I totally fell in love with him in Honesty. Cole and Wallace (who is the MC in the other two books) are twins and though they may look alike, they are so different, each in his own way, and I do love them both. Cole is absolutely hilarious in this book. OMG, I didn't know Carrie Butler had this side of her because while the other two books had their humorous moments, Cole's character in Honesty is filled with humor, snark, he's very hot, and we get to know him intimately, which was awesome. He's a little arrogant and stuck on himself, but he wears it well and knows how to work it so that he doesn't come off as a jerk. His inner rantings and thoughts are a big part of what made the book for me.

I really enjoyed getting to know Rachel in this story also. She and Cole are total opposites, but are so good for each other. The romance is sweet, has some steam, which we all love, but it's not overly explicit, and has its serious and fun moments as well. We also get to see bits and pieces of the things that happened in Courage from Cole's perspective, and get more insight into the suspense building with the ERA. I can't wait for the next book in the series so we can hopefully see where things are at with Cole and Rachel, as well as Wallace and Rena, not to mention see what is going to happen next with the story itself. Again, I can't recommend this book enough. Carrie Butler totally took me by surprise and demonstrated just what a talented writer she is. If you love paranormal romance, then the Mark of the Nexus Series is something I highly recommend....plus, I can't wait for you to meet Cole to.

To be honest, I was unsure on how I was going to feel toward Cole, this novella (#2.5 in the Nexus series) is seen from his point of view. In the first two books in the series STRENTGH and COURAGE, we see Cole as the anti-hero, we don't see the motivation behind his actions, finally we see what makes Cole tick, his every thought behind his reasoning, his actions, everything he does and says. I am so glad we did, I couldn't imagine NOT getting to know this sexy, beast of a sweet man. I was surprised on many occasion on the things I learned from Cole, from the very first line, I laughed and immediatly knew I was going to love him.

"If people knew I liked to start my mornings with music, a cig, and a bare-assed yoga, it'd probably hurt my street cred."

Oh. MY. Gods! I couldn't contain my smile or the warm feels I was starting to have towards Cole. He is surprsingly sensitive, and easily hurt by how the people around him especially his family think of him as the 'bad guy'. I felt so bad for him! I loved Cole's sweet side and his soft side. Gah! I just plainly love Cole, It was interesting seeing the events from his eyes, how eeryone took him for granted and how he worried about everyone but no one worried about him in return. Well in the beginnig,

I love Carrie and this series, it is strangely unique in the fantasy and paranormal genres, I have not encountered another book like it. Even though this is a novella it was an instant 5 star read for me as soon as I read the first line. It was soo Cole. Another must read y'all cannot miss!

This novella bridges the second book in the Mark of Nexus series--Courage--with the third and yet to be released book--Loyalty. The first book is Strength.

I'll be honest (haha, no pun intended). I was not a fan of Cole, the main character when I first met him in Strength. Sorry, but he's one disturbed man. Like crazy. Dangerous. And everyone seemed to treat his outrageous behavior like it wasn't that big a deal. But it was!

By the end of Strength, I'd gotten a little more sympathy for the character and by the end of Courage, he'd become a guilty pleasure. He makes me laugh--and I shouldn't. In Honesty, besides getting to see things from his point of view--and the reasons he's so messed up and dangerous--he's changing. I like the direction his character is moving.

I love Cole's character now and am so glad Butler took the time to write his story, to put the reader inside his head. Just a warning, in case this bothers you. There's a lot more swearing and sexual references in this story because we're in Cole's head. That's kind of the way he used to roll. But like I said, he's found a moral compass that helping him become a good man.

I have long been a fan of these Mark of Nexus books. That's saying a lot considering I have zero interest in paranormal or romance. But these books are so darn good. They've got everything and I've been hooked from page one of book one. I really didn't think I could love any character(s) more than Wallace and Rena but holy awesomeness, Batgirl! Cole, the narrator of this one (Wallace's mischievous twin brother) is witty, irreverent, hilarious and entertaining as hell--and he shows a sensitive side in this one that will tug on every heartstring you have! I could not get enough of this book. I was so bummed out when it was over. I laughed out loud reading this book more times than I've ever laughed out loud while reading a book! This book has not only raucous humor but also tons of action, thrills and unexpected twists as well as a romance that is so sweet and so riveting that it rivals that of Wallace and Rena. Butler has outdone herself with this one. I mean these books just get better and better and better. DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!!!! I just cannot wait for her next one. This is writing at its absolute best. Do yourself a favor and read this book!

On Carrie’s website it says Honesty is “gritty, fast paced and hilariously...warped” That is the truth!!

This is Cole’s POV from the second book. At first, I was “Meh”, I don’t want to read someone else’s POV of a story I already read. But I am so glad I did, because it was worth every minute reading it. I couldn’t get enough of it and was laughing a lot! I wish I could share some of my favorite parts with you, but it would spoil it for you.

Cole is demented, sarcastic, obnoxious, rude, owns no filter when he talks, a vigilante, all about family, gross, witty, frustrating, foolish, loyal, disturbed, disgusting, thoughtful, sweet, a teddy bear, troubled, hilarious, courageous, chivalrous, zany, wonderful, kind, a lover of yoga, and definitely warped!

The only part I didn’t like was the end. I wanted more. I love that boy!!

  • Ria

Cole could quite possibly be my most favorite character in the Mark of the Nexus series! Nope Scratch that he is my most favorite character. I'm completely jazzed after reading this novella. I could not put this book down. I have to warn you though this is a companion that runs parallel with the second book in the series so a lot most of the stuff that happens you already know about and at the same time there is a whole knew world within the world of the nexus as we all know. There are some extremely shocking things that transpire. Cole is the perfect Dynari! I can see where he is more like his aunt than he cares to admit. I'm not sure where the series is going or how this band of misfits are going to overcome ERA but I'm looking forward to finding out.

I can't believe how quickly Cole grabbed my heart! In Strength and Courage he was on the periphery - but when he was called front and center with Honesty, that boy seriously took the opportunity to shine! Who knew he'd been such a busy guy? His fierce connection to his family, the weight he juggles trying to right the things that go wrong, his protectiveness - all new sides of him that I'm grateful we got to see. Not to mention the way he is with Rach. We got a glimpse of his feelings for her, which seemed genuine, in Courage - but wow, he's a force when he pulls out the stops! Can't wait for Loyalty.

  • Kendra

This was an impulse purchase (I have the other 2 in the series and honestly love Cole!) and I am so glad I gave into my impulsive urge to 1-Click! Cole...Oh I just love you even more now than I did in the first two books. He was kinda shown as an unfeeling(ish!) asshole in the first two books, but in this one, we see how what's going on in his head, what drives him, everything. Him and Rachel are so cute! Her story was such a surprise, and I was so happy to see what happened with them.

When is book 3 coming? This fan is oh-so-impatiently waiting :)

  • Laura Haller

    I think I love cole ...
I'm glad he got his own book, some of this book is going over what happened in the second book but from Coles point of view and it was great to get to see what he was thinking through all that was happening. Towards the end of the book we got more of the story.
Cole is quite funny and I had some lol moments reading those. We also see his good side especially where Rachel is concerned and I'm glad those two are together I think they will be good together and I look forward to seeing more of the two of them and what happens.

  • Melissa Maygrove

    Another winner from Carrie Butler.

I thoroughly enjoyed Honesty. I've always liked Cole, although I was a little unsure about him in book I. I warmed up to him in book II, and now I adore him... in a twisted sort of way. :P

Because 2.5 overlaps some and doesn't contain quite so many events, we get to delve deeper into characters, and it's wonderful. You don't need to read Honesty to understand the series, but I highly recommend it.

  • Beth

I won this book from the author because I guessed her hockey team correctly! Go me! I feel bad that I took a while to read it, but I loved it! Cole is hilarious! If you have read the first two books in the series, do not wait to read this one! The chapters are short, which I love, so then you read one more chapter, then one more chapter, then one more chapter,... The book is a quick read.

  • Claudia Naranjo

"Holy hidden talent Batman" (Cole).... I loved this book more than I suspected I would!! Getting to know Cole better was an interesting experience. He is not what I was thinking!!!! I love how complex he is and how he does not even know himself.... I hope we can have more of Cole in the next book of the Mark of Nexus series.

  • Jen

    fav quote :

"Back in sixth grade, my teacher asked what we’d do if we were stranded in a boat with four people and three life vests. I said kill the one asking questions. She gave me detention. Sadistic bitch."

hilarious. ..Cole got good humor. .good to see his pov.. he works hard at not working. ..but he deeply cares about his family happiness...and could careless about his own

  • Nette

Oh yeah I'm definitely looking forward to this book. I lurv Cole!

  • Les

Another great book can't wait for the next one. Need more of the Blake brothers especially Wallace and Rita

  • Tammy Theriault

Cole is my newest best friend alpha male! What a hottie in writing!! Carrie did a fab job and I couldn't put it down when he finally showed his softer side...swoon.

  • Maya

**Warning: this text may contain spoilers**

As soon as I opened the book, I was disappointed. The entire book from is Cole's POV. That normally wouldn't bother me except that it was during the events of book 2, it felt like I was rereading the book I just finished, and in some cases, I was. I'm not sure if anything important or relevant to Rena and Wallace happened because I skipped around and read dialogue, but I wish I had skipped the entire book and started the next one. As far as I'm concerned, it's just a filler.

  • Toi Thomas

So, the psychotic twin really is just misunderstood. I mean, it’s not his fault that the rest of the world doesn’t think like him, in absolutes all the time. One thing is clear about Cole, as crazy as he may be, his heart is in the right place and he’s loyal.

Reading this alternative point of view was a bit scary at first. I didn’t really want to relive past experiences, but this worked quite well. Yes, we do see some overlapping, but since the perspective is so different it gave the material a fresh feel; plus, there’s a lot a new stuff here. There’s a lot going on with Cole, that up to this point, we could only speculate about. Turns out he’s still kind of a jerk, but he’s also one of the good guys. A crazy, jerky, good guy you want on your side.

Too young for a midlife crisis, Cole has a crisis of conscious and realizes that while his tactics have been effective, they’ve also been reckless and destructive. With is super speed and intellect, ‘cause this dude is shockingly smart, Cole decides to find better ways to meet his accomplishments. Oh, and he might actually be in love… guess we’ll see.

I loved this installment and can’t wait for the next. Too bad this is all coming to an end. I hope the last book is as intense and entertaining as this one.

Recommended to adult readers (mature teens with parental agreement) who like urban fantasy and fans of this series.

  • BlueBug

I knew, there was a reason, I had a crush on Cole! Even in the dangerous parts, he spewed one liners. The biggest reason, I married my husband was, because he makes me laugh every day. Cole is one of those guys...straight forward heart, trying his hardest to make a difference and uses humor to get through everything including conflict. I read it in less than a day, because I couldn't put it down. I don't know where Carrie Butler gets her influences, but what a brilliant and beautiful mind! Thank you for a hilarious and insightful read! I loved it and am looking forward to starting the last book of the series now.

  • Jaime

I loved this book! It was nice seeing the other side of Cole. You could tell in the other books that there was more to him than meets the eye. I have to say, I think I like Cole and Rachel better than I like Wallace and Rena. They feel like stronger people even though Rachel is quieter than Rena. If you've read the first two books then odds are you're going to read this book anyway. You won't regret it!

  • Jamie

I didn't like how a majority of the book was what happened in book 2. About 20% of the books was scenes we didn't see. I did appreciate learning more about the other twin but I was very frustrating because it felt like I was re-reading book 2.

  • Gale Albright

I have read all the books in this series to date and anxiously await the next book. They are fast paced and action packed. I enjoy how each book brings back previous characters so that we get a glimpse into what continues to happen in their lives. Jump on these books, you won't be sorry.

I was looking forward to reading from Cole's PoV and Honesty didn't disappoint.
